Throughout this year’s awards season, Michael Fassbender barely campaigned for his Best Actor Oscar nomination. Part of that was by design, because Fassy has made it a point to not engage with the touchy-feely “campaign” part of the Oscars. Part of it was just circumstance though – he was in the middle of filming Assassin’s Creed throughout Europe, which is why he missed out on several events throughout the awards season. He couldn’t or wouldn’t get away just to watch Leo DiCaprio pick up every award. So, was it worth it? Will Assassin’s Creed break the “video game adaptation curse” that has plagued so many money-pit video game movies? Here’s the first trailer:
Will it break the curse? Maybe. I don’t know. While I love Fassbender and I think it’s great that he’s doing this stunt-heavy role, I also think the film looks sort of meh. I do find it interesting that Fassbender convinced Marion Cotillard to come on board as Sophia Rikkin – Marion and Fassy worked together on Macbeth and they got along well. Really well. Like, there were rumors of an affair.
Also: I thought the inclusion of Kanye West’s “I Am a God” was… not the right choice for this?
Meanwhile, did you hear this news about Fassy? He’s in talks to star as a real-life serial killer in a film called Entering Hades. The film is based on the true story of Jack Unterweger, an Austrian true-crime writer who led a double life as a serial killer. Fassy the serial killer? I think I’m on board.

Yes, definitely! I loved their Macbeth and this has a great cast so I’m really curious about it. (I agree though that the Kanye song was so wrong for this)

I’m on the fence about AC because I’m generally not a fan of video-game adaptations (though I love me some Fassy). The serial killer movie sounds way more interesting, I’d definitely want to see that.
I played the first 2 Assassins Creeds and Unity. They were alright. I’m not seeing this doing well in the box office though.
I have to see this movie. I gave my cousin the game and I also always take him to see action movies. So, I can report back here with my review.

Saw Malkovich play Unterweger in The Infernal Comedy, a powerful, mesmerizing, seductive, and frightening performance. Fassy is on a very short list of actors I think might come close to that in Entering Hades.
Yes I’m going to watch this and no I don’t hate the music. I think people just hate Kanye. If it was Hans Zimmer’s idea people would love it. They changed it anyway so it’s a non issue.

I liked the trailer, but not sure if I’d see this on the cinema. My husband played all the Assassin’s Creed on videogame and will def want to see it.
Sadly he’s filming a movie in Australia so all his X Men promo has been via satellite. The next premiere is in NYC which is probably too far to travel as well. Tragic!

Not my genre (the video game based movies) but I like the fact that they made it almost completely live action and there’s little CGI. Compared to Warcraft, another upcoming movie based on a video game, this is 100 times better. Warcraft is the one that will be a box office bomb and I already feel sorry for Duncan Jones, but that movie looks terrible. Fassy is not a huge massive movie star but has a lot of industry credit and respect, he’s a talented actor and he can make this movie work. I don’t know what the budget for this was but it doesn’t look huge, so maybe it will be successful. It looks good but I agree the music is not a good choice, to appeal the general public it would have been better some orchestra soundtrack, epic style.
Not sure why you’d feel sorry for Duncan Jones. I doubt he picks his projects by closing his eyes and pointing; there’s no way he didn’t know he’s essentially be trying to polish a turd, and if that is in fact the case, I’d say he has an inflated opinion of his abilities and it won’t hurt him to be taken down a notch or two.
I was very interested in this movie but not so much after the trailer and I’m starting to think Michael was a misscast… I think this movie will end up like Jake’s Prince of Persia (which trailer was better btw), good action sequences but nothing else worth the money
Agreed about the Prince of Persia comparison. I’ll say the same about Hitman too but I can sit and watch that movie just to drool over TO. I love all the games, have played them all except the last one because, babies, and I just don’t get a good feeling about it after watching the trailer. In the games Desmond looks similar to his ancestors, Ezio, Altair, and I don’t think Fassbender looks anything like that, definitely not Spanish.
Oh and having Kanye’s voice in the trailer does not help in my opinion. Especially him saying he’s a god hahahaha I mean really. It’s not like the song doesn’t fit but just Kanye me voice and knowing that when he says these things he believes it makes me chuckle.
I might buy it or rent it. Who knows this is just the first trailer. I watched Macbeth last night, he and Marion are so good together. I am here for Fassy the serial killer though. I can definitely see him pulling it off.
So it opening against Rogue One yes ? Fassy must have a lot of faith in the film. I feel the directing will be a letdown just like Macbeth but Fassy and Marion will be solid. Will not be seeing it tho.
Okay I guess I’m in the minority, but I am into this — even though I pretty much I have to dig deep to get over my Marion aversion. I have a homestead full of teeny/tweeny gamers on a regular basis and with this franchise there is much chatter. I remember my Co-Captain trying to spark some interest back when Fassbender first took on this project (I like the Fassbender) and well, yes, interest is sparked, definitely after this trailer. It looks visually immersing. Thing to remember is that these video games usually do have some kind of story or world that is absolutely integral to their success. The flip side of this is there are so many ways those stories can be modified and interpretted I guess. Whatevs, I’m going and I’m OK with Kanye giving me vibes in the trailer, we’ll see how the movie soundtrack does on the whole later…
I really wanted to like Macbeth, but I thought Justin Kurzel’s directing was atrocious. The whole thing was a bombastic pretentious overwrought affair. It’s a shame because Marion and Fassy are two of the best actors out there in my opinion. They deserve better. As for the affair rumours, I think they make a beautiful and talented couple. I believe in this pairing much more than his alleged romance with fame hungry Vikander. Marion is private like Fassy, and they are dedicated to their work, I can see them getting along. Vikander is more interested in playing Hollywood’s game as she claws her way to fame. Nothing wrong with that, and she’s a hardworking girl. But doesn’t seem to be Fassy’s MO so I’d be surprised if they actually got along and were dating for real. Of course pure speculation on my part.
I’ll watch it only cuz I’m a fan of the game, but to be frank the trailer wasn’t well done, and it doesn’t really have that wow effect that the game trailers do.
@Moon I’ve missed something with Vikander because those famehungry accusation seems crazy. On celebitchy the only time there’s a post concerning her it’s movie or fashion oriented . You don’t see her at every party in Hollywood she just seems to work a lot and promot LV brand.

I think it looks fun (and better than all of those boring ass Avengers etc movies). I’ll definitely be checking this one out. I’ve missed my Fassy.
