I was going to do another big model-filled Cannes fashion post, but several things happened. One, only the models are even trying to be glam at this moment in Cannes, and even then, half of them are wearing some of the most boring dresses out there. And then the second thing that happened was that Bella Hadid walked the red carpet in this custom Alexandre Vauthier gown and now this is the only dress anyone wants to talk about.
What bugs me is that this was a custom-made piece, which means it was supposed to fit Bella perfectly. And yet there are hundreds of photos of Bella fussing with her gown on the red carpet, adjusting the cups and checking on her biscuit (and it didn’t even matter, she flashed her tiny, built-in thong to everyone on the steps). So while I do think this was a glamorous, sexy look, she sort of ruined it by letting everyone know that she wasn’t comfortable in it. Still, it’s a great color and Bella’s dead-eyed LEG OF DOOM has now overtaken Angelina Jolie’s O.G. Leg of Doom. Also, Bella got bangs and I sort of don’t hate them?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Alexandre Vauthier. Compared to Bella’s gown, this one doesn’t even rate. It’s the wrong shade, it’s too fluffy and it makes a beautiful woman like Rosie looks boring.

I sort of feel bad picking on her because she’s just a teenager (who looks a LOT older) but the RC poses she does….someone please tell her to stop it. It does not look cool or fashion-y. It’s bad. Real bad.

I think the weird hand stuff is intentional, as she’s doing it again and again. To me it looks like something she’s practiced.
I’m amazed she kept that look while adjusting her top. That is commitment.

Is funny how this “model” is more a product of a good surgery and great makeup. I don’t find her physical appearance to be special and to prove that here she is shocking people with that sort of dress in order to remain relevant.
How do we know she’s had surgery?
Basic look. I think she should have shown confidence in wearing the gown. Maybe it’s her posture. She looks like she is slouching. That outfit is wearing her. The only thing I see is her discomfort and her glazed look makes me think she is trying to not think about the fact that her body is barely covered which in turn makes me think damn she’s nearly nekkid.
Her bangs do look lovely though.
It’s almost “lady of the evening” basic, like a film noir or a cartoon. Upswept hair, black stilettos sandals, oh and low cut red dress with an huge slit up the side. Cliche with the red lipstick. Oh wait, add the diamond jewelry. Yawn.
I don’t think Rosie looks boring at all. She looks like a woman who doesn’t have to clutch her dress in order to avoid showing her front bottom. Unlike Bella.

I think Rosie looks awful, worse than usual, but then again, I don’t find her pretty at all anyway.
I know we pretty much say every model is overrated these days, but Rosie would be in my top 3 of most overrated models ever.
I thought Rosie looked the worst I’ve ever seen her. Not her fault, though, the Models don’t choose their dress or get to choose how their makeup is done.
For me, the model I think is overrated is Karlie Kloss. Her success as a model is the most baffling thing- she is so common looking to me.

HG, I disagree with you about Karlie, I think she’s great, the kind of model that is less conventionally beautiful and more interesting. Anyone remember Stella Tennant? I wouldn’t call her conventionally beautiful but she was huge in the modeling world. I feel like Karlie is in that same class.

Agree! When your dress resembles a maillot bathing suit and you are flashing thong and boob, you’ve crossed the tacky line. Rosie looks 1000 times better.
I agree about the height of the slit. 10-12″ down would have been so much more graceful, not to mention less provoking of her obvious self- consciousness in it. Otherwise, it all works wonderfully.

Bella’s plastic surgery makes her look so old. She is the definition of basic, but I kind of feel bad for her. You know she probably felt insecure and infeeioto Gigi that she had to completely change her face with the nose job and lip injections.

I’ve found that girls who stunning at an early age and look “older” peak very quickly and lose their looks in their 20s.
While others who aren’t anything special in their teens and 20s become beauties in their 30s & 40s.

Agree with corny. It’s due to her features, not actual signs of aging like wrinkles or sun damage. She’ll look the same in 10, 15 years if she doesn’t tan, smoke or eat sh*tty food. Kate Winslet looked waay beyond hernyears in Titanic and sheooks good now. Not older for sure.
@Myrna There is a Bollyood actress called Anushka Sharman and when she was 19 and had just started her career she looked a youthful 27 28. But now she is nearer to 30 and still looks the same

her uncomfortableness was tangible when in 3/4 of the pics she’s adjusting the risque parts of the gown, and some of the pics on getty were gross, like the closeups of just the hips/slit/butt. I hate this look. Felt like exploitation. She looked miserable.

I never understand these custom dresses that 1. look like any other dress you could find anywhere 2. are not fitted properly 3. don’t look like they are complete.

The models have been so forgettable this year in Cannes.
At my age, I’ve seen so much skin that I usually don’t even glance at photos. But this model is so beautiful, that I bookmarked the pages, because I wanted to show somebody. My son was over last night, and so I chose him. We sat and gazed at the beauty of this women. We were both feeling awe and wonder at the elegance of the human female – stunningly beautiful art. We weren’t interesting in looking at the other models, and their finery, after appreciating her.
It might be easier at this point for them to just deck themselves in gems and walk the red carpet naked.
