Sean Penn files for separation from Robin Wright Penn

Is this really a surprise to anyone? Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn are officially separating, Extra is reporting (story via Huffington Post). Sean and Robin have been on-and-off for the better part of a year, although rumors of marriage problems have been around for a lot longer. Last year, Robin was the one to leave Sean. Sean was rumored to be hooking up with basically anyone with two legs and a pulse. Then Sean and Robin reconciled – timing I always found suspicious because of the pretty substantial Oscar campaign that Sean waged for Milk. Coincidence… or conspiracy? This time, Sean is filing for separation from Robin.

Syndicated entertainment show Extra! reports Sean Penn has filed for separation from Robin Wright Penn. They sent out the following press release:

“’Extra’ has exclusively learned that Sean Penn filed for “legal separation with minor children” from wife Robin Wright Penn on Friday, April 24th, 2009, according to a court record.

“Penn and Wright married on April 27, 1996, and have two children, Dylan and Hopper Jack. The couple filed for separation in December 2007 but reconciled in April 2008.”

From The Huffington Post

Eh, they’ll be back together before the end of the year, I bet. Maybe constantly keeping their relationship in flux gets them hot. Sean rather famously “forgot” to thank Robin when he won his second Oscar this year, for his role as Harvey Milk. Sean later explained to Oprah that he didn’t think it was the time or place to thank any member of his family, which is still a lame excuse. Perhaps not thanking his wife was the last harbinger of relationship doom!

Here’s are Sean and Robin at the Oscars in February. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

Maybe he and Madonna will get back together after all these years!! He for one wouldn’t take her crap and maybe it will do her good!!

  2. michelle says:

Is it just me or is she absolutely beautiful? I loved her in Forrest Gump.

  3. lisa says:

You could tell at the academy awards that she was not happy with him at all. Her smiles were forces and she looked borderline disgusted. Hopefully the divorce will go smoothly.

  4. mamafogle says:

Too bad. I liked them together.

  5. Ggirl says:

I always liked Robin and Sean is a great actor but your typical douche. She and her children deserve way better. He doesn’t need to be with anyone especially Madonna because children would suffer. Robin needs to find someone else of quality while she is still young to enjoy a good part of her life without Sean.

  6. Wif says:

Hopefully this will encourage her to get back working again. I love her acting and have missed seeing her on the big screen in recent years.

  7. lrm says:

    she’s waaaaaaaaaay better than him.
just look at her! she is so solid, strong, and just a ‘big presence’…not to mention beautiful! he’s suck a d*ck. I don’t even watch his movies-b/c 1)they are over the top PC or drama drama drama social conscience forced upon the viewer, not engaging films. but dramatic movies with good staging. typical american fare. and i’m american. i just don’t get the fanfare with him. 2)i just can’t stand to watch his pompous a*s.

  8. whatever says:

well at least he didnt beat her.. people do change after all..

  9. ash says:

We told you Sean, thank your wife in your speech!

Poor thing, I love her, and she is absolutely beautiful. Even though he’s a great actor, still a grade A jerk.

  10. IvyMades says:

    Michelle – I agree!

whatever – How do we *know* if he beat her or not?

    @ Ggirl:

I always liked Robin and Sean is a great actor but your typical douche.
    —–

    Word.
He’s seems emotionally abusive. I didn’t like how he made no mention of his wife in his Oscar speech. She didn’t have to go as his date. She did him a favor and he was still nasty to her.

I hope she find someone else who is worthy of her.

  11. Codzilla says:

She was great in “State of Play” and looked gorgeous. Way too good for an ass like Sean (who is a brilliant actor, but as others have pointed out, a dick in real life).

  12. LydiaR says:

I am not surprised at all. I was shocked that he didn’t mention his wife in his Oscar acceptance speech. It made him appear callous and foolish both in the light of their recent relationship troubles. Not to mention how arrogant he came across overall during his speech. Fine, fine actor. Numskull man. And, she is lovely–I hope she finds someone who will treat her with more respect and care.

  13. UrbanRube says:

She’s been amazing looking ever since “The Princess Bride,” but it looks as if her marriage has been wearing on her for some time. More therapy for both of them!

  14. KDRockstar says:

Run, Robin, run! (Forrest Gump pun that’s not so punny).

I really like her, but I don’t know why she has put up with his BS for years. Way too many personal experiences with the douche to share, but if he acts like that in public, I can’t imagine what she dealt with at home.

  15. cara says:

She is an a amazing looking woman and I agree, she seems too good for him.

  16. Alecto says:

I’ve loved her since Santa Barbara and The Princess Bride.

  17. daisy424 says:

@KD, Run, Robin, run! LOL, I agree!

Robin is an absolute knockout, what she see’s in Penn is beyond me. Even if his dick is bigger than his inflated ego, no man is worth putting up with extramarital activities.

  18. sauvage says:

Sean Penn is an a**hole. Period.

  19. Dorothy says:

OMG Alecto I also have loved her since she was Kelly on Santa Barbara! I want her to act again!!!!!

  20. BOGART4017 says:

I always felt she was way too earthy for him. We’ll see you know…

  21. Anoneemouse says:

I hope for her sake she finally gets rid of this guy. She could do so much better…!

  22. crazymary says:

I love her. She will always be buttercup to me.

  23. Bob says:

She was way too classy and smart for him. She’ll be much happier in the future.

  24. Dani says:

That herpes Lohan gave him was the last straw for Robin.

  25. Cinderella says:

She put up with that jerk far too long. I hope she has either found or will soon find a man worthy of her loveliness.

  26. daisyfly says:

It’s the Oscar Speech curse. Everyone who forgets their spouse in their speech tends to split not too long afterward.

  27. ccoop says:

I’m still holding her partially responsible for saddling their child with the name “Hopper Jack”.

  28. Maritza says:

He is doing her a favor, let him divorce her! She is a beautiful woman and deserve much better. Sean is a womanizer and I bet he has smacked her more than once, I don’t like the guy. I hope she finds a handsome caring and billionaire guy that will love her and treat her with respect.

  29. Sarah says:

Run Robin, run! This is definitely in her best interest!

  30. Bodhi says:

Oh Princess Buttercup, you are FAR too good for him!

  31. Valensi says:

I felt so upset when I read the title of this particular story – and whether Robin was being sweet just for show at the Oscar’s or not, I still feel bad for her. She put on a brave face for a hell of a night, then, and she’s gotta earn some respect for that.
And about that… Why would anyone be willing to prance around with their partner just for the sake of a bloody movie premiere? Especially if their partner happens to be a prime douche!

  32. Casey says:

Anytime someone with small children divorces, it’s sad. Sean is a good actor, but always struck me as the type that cares more and puts his energy into causes as opposed to people. Robin is gorgeous and has always seemed to be a decent, good hearted person. I hope she finds happiness, since I’m guessing she didn’t have alot with him.

  33. Ned says:

He needed her for the campaign (it’s like running for an office, these days…).

Once he got the Oscar, there was nothing more to exploit or abuse.

Sean should not be with any woman.
He is the kind of person that would such the life out of anyone, and subject them to his needs.

He’s acting is not so great, but he always played the Hollywood game right.

She is a beatiful, nice and talented woman.
It’s a shame he has made her believe she is not good enough to work.

  34. Ned says:

“the type that cares more and puts his energy into causes as opposed to people”

Sean Penn puts his energy into “Sean Penn”.

It is the people who care about PEOPLE that really devote themselves and care for causes.

  35. drm says:

Whatever they decide they need to settle it for the kids, together or apart make up your mind…playing the on/off game is a lot harder on children than a divorce which draws a line under the relationship…

  36. j. ferber says:

Ned, not to sound sexist or anything, but I’m surprised by, yet appreciative of your thoughtful, compassionate comments about Robin. It’s a rare guy (in my opinion) who can stand up for the ladies and leave the boys’ club behind.

  37. barneslr says:

The only question in my mind is: Why did she marry him in the first place? He is such a self important blowhard, and he is physically unattractive as well. I cannot understand why she (or any woman, for that matter) would want to be with him to begin with.

  38. FF says:

Maybe he can hook up with Aniston. They seem to have the forgetting their significant others in awards acceptance speeches thing down.
