Rachel Roy fled the CFDAs as soon as she heard about Beyonce’s arrival

wenn24538839

I honestly didn’t pay that much attention to Beyonce’s appearance at the CFDAs on Monday night. Beyonce barely walked the red carpet, and she was just there to pick up her Fashion Icon Award, which – just my opinion – was totally undeserved. If you want to say Beyonce is an icon, for sure, I agree. If you want to say that she deserves awards for her music, her career, what she means to so many women, of course I agree. But Beyonce’s style has always been meh. Basic, if you will. But if you want Beyonce to show up at your event, you have to give her an award, I guess. Unfortunately, the CFDA also invited Rachel Roy, the woman many people believe was the main “Becky with the Good Hair” reference in Bey’s Lemonade. So what happened when Bey, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy and Rachel were all in the same room? Rachel got the hell out. Almost as if she was fleeing a crime scene.

Designer Rachel Roy grabbed her place card and left the starry CFDA Fashion Awards dinner before Beyoncé ever entered the room as the surprise recipient of the night’s Fashion Icon Award, sources said. At Monday’s CFDA gala, Roy arrived with model Candice Huffine, whom she dressed, and they posed together for pics on the red carpet. But as the gala began, rumors spread that Beyoncé might attend. One fashion writer tweeted, “Jay Z has just arrived . . . What could it mean?” Then Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy, and mom, Tina Knowles, showed up, essentially giving away the night’s Icon winner. Sister Solange was also rumored to be on the way, but didn’t materialize.

But Roy dashed before Beyoncé arrived onstage. “She disappeared with her place card and never came back,” said a source. It was “weird. I don’t know if it was because she’s ‘Becky,’ or what?” Another stunned source at the event said, “Rachel just came and left.” But a friend of Roy’s explained she exited the awards only because she had to catch an early flight the next day to be with her kids in LA.

Hahahaha, this is so funny. Beyonce’s got these Beckys TRAINED. No Beckys are allowed in the presence of the Beyonce. If you are a Becky and you’re already sitting at an event and Beyonce is coming, all Beckys must leave. The Beyonce takes precedence. And if you really believe that Rachel Roy spent hours in hair and makeup and chose her pretty red dress for the CFDAs only to skip out in the first hour because she “had to catch an early flight,” then God bless.

Getting such a Prince vibe from Bey’s outfit!

  2. Bey says:

I can hear the Imperial March announcing her entrance!

  3. LA says:

Agree here about Beyoncés style. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bey. But I think Solange is the style icon of the family.

    • raptor says:

Agree. HOWEVER, I will say that the suit Bey wore to the CFDAs is my favorite thing she has ever worn.

    • Eleonor says:

      Solange yes.
      Her wedding dress was amazing.

    • Artemis says:

Beyoncé’s stage outfits are the same old recycled leotards or glittery skintight dresses. I’m happy when she wears a suit (she rocks a suit!) but alas, that’s an exception.
Even on the red carpet, she’s in the same boring territory as JLo, Kim Kardashian and Sofia Vergara. No risks, just show as much skin or curves as possible.

Despite her ditching her horrible Dereon clothes, she is also still quite tacky when it comes to her style. Even with a stylist, her casual outfits wear her instead of the other way around. Just like Britney, she’s a southern girl with no style! If she wasn’t so image obsessed, I could see her wearing booty shorts and a tank top from Walmart in her day-to-day outings so please what style icon????

Beyoncé can be honoured for many things but style is the LAST thing she should be honoured for. But at this point, they want to reward her for any little thing just so she can show up and speak. Shit, they wouldn’t even mind if she only BREATHS into the mic 🙂

      • QQ says:

FACTS ON FACTS which honestly is what that article that said she wasnt a style Icon was trying to say way back, that she as the product is not trying to attach herself to any house brand style etc , thus her style honestly veers into very impersonal at best, which is not to say she doesn’t rock clothes or looks great in them ( THAT SUIT!!!!) just that it isn’t a Solange or Rihanna type of situation

      • KJ says:

Yep. Formation did the impossible and turned me from a die-hard hater into an actual fan. (Went to the concert and it was amazing, BTW.) But her personal style has always been tacky and horrible. I’m not mad that the CFDA decided to recognize her, but I did get a hearty chuckle over it.

In any case, I loved her speech and the subtle but pointed way she called out the fashion industry for their lack of diversity on the runway and in front of the camera. I hope some people in the room took her words to heart, though I doubt it.

      • Artemis says:

        @QQ

It’s interesting that it’s considered impersonal since I’ve found out she sometimes rips off the stage outfits of popstars who do have a unique vision for their style and try to give something different (e.g. Kylie Minogue). Even when trying to be daring, she is safe as she’s doing what’s done before. With the MET gala last year, she was placed in the same category as other ladies showing off more skin than clothes/costume. Whereas Rihanna’s costume was not revealing and a true costume. I don’t like Rihanna but it’s clear who of the 2 is the risk-taker and a true lover of fashion! The article is right, Beyoncé is all about (brand) Beyoncé but it’s boring when she cannot have interesting partnerships like Madonna and Rihanna.

        @KJ

See as much as I love her, when I see her other concerts (like the Made in America one), I can see that she is using the same sets and choreography for the tour save for the new songs, I don’t really want to spend a lot of money for her tour…I could buy a ticket on Stubhub but I don’t know, maybe I’m too picky as Beyoncé is at her peak now and it would be amazing to see her but something just tells me it’s too much of the same thing…

Her words alone won’t do a thing to the industry. Fans might be inspired by it but true change takes more time than 1 icon speaking about the fashion issues during 1 event. It shouldn’t be Beyoncé’s burden to carry the change alone either. But I do hope something changes. That said, Ivy Park isn’t the greatest for diversity either, it apparently lacks plus sizes?

Also, Iman, Naomi and some other iconic model I forgot the name off have done so much for diversity in fashion. From writing letters, to speaking about it together, from taking action with their own businesses (Iman’s make-up line and Naomi with her TV show and opting not to walk for designers who do not have diversity in their shows). And not just when it became popular but when they were younger and still modelling a lot. Sure they make money from some of these actions but it benefits more people than just them. Madonna showed (black) gay people and gave them a platform so as narcissistic as she is, she allowed to camera to shine of them and speak about their life and struggles without her presence. Kylie Minogue also has bits about her dancers getting their minute in front of the camera.

Beyoncé only seems to speak when it’s about herself. It’s always Beyoncé who speaks, everything through her eyes and world. We know she has an all-female band but we are not introduced to these women, where is their spotlight? Beyoncé speaks to an industry fashion event about change when Beyoncé won’t allow anybody but Beyoncé to speak. The spotlight must be on Beyoncé regardless of the situation. Lemonade is obviously about the plight of ALL black women but only when it’s communicated through Beyoncé’s artistic journey of a (black) woman being cheated on, forgiving her husband in the process and becoming liberated by it at the end.

      • HH says:

Agreed on the fashion front. If anything, Beyonce is undeserving because she’s just Solange with more fans. Beyonce did not start dressing funky/quirky until Solange did so.

I loved “Lemonade” and I enjoy some of her songs from her self-titled album, but I reserve title of Beyonce “fan” until she continues to speak about these matters when they’re no longer the “topic du jour”. Beyonce is not starting conversations, she’s just the loudest one speaking. She’s the one with the biggest audience. I applaud her for creating a bigger spotlight on the subjects. Now, I want to see how deep her commitment is.

    • Pepper says:

Solange has amazing style. More importantly though, even when one of her riskier outfits fails, she’s wearing the clothes. Beyonce’s clothes are always wearing her. She has amazing presence in other areas, but when it comes to fashion anything more than jeans and a plain top overwhelms her.

Anyways, no one who was involved in House of Dereon should ever even be considered for any kind of fashion award. That was some of the tackiest, crappiest clothing I’ve ever seen. The nerve to call that garbage couture.

      • mme says:

I agree with y’all. This woman can’t dress to save her life (I’m exaggerating but you know what I mean). But then she’s known for selling out the trash she wears quickly. Anything she wears sells out from the source once people find the ID. Even the stuff she had in her bathroom in 7/11 video all sold out hours after the video dropped. I like that she specified that she had to wear ugly Dereon because no high-end label wanted to dress four curvy, country girls. Shame. And the bit about her mother being turned away from showrooms in New York got me too. Like Artemis said, they just wanted her to show up.

    • Mia V. says:

Beyoncé has a very tacky style, she doesn’t deserve this award at all. Lainey pointed the resemblance of Beyoncé and Solange in terms of style with Jackie O and Lee Radziwill, linking to a Vanity Fair article it’s a nice read.

  4. NewWester says:

    I like Beyoncé , but that outfit…..
Also wouldn’t have Rachel Roy have known before hand Beyoncé would be getting an award? Why go in the first place if she felt it would be awkward( if she is the “Becky with the good hair”)?
Or maybe she got a package of honey and a bottle of lemonade from the “Beyhive” warning her to leave now so as not to upset “Queen Bey”

    • Naya says:

Beyonce was a surprise honoree, I dont think Rachel knew she was attending or doing so as the guest of honor.

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

This is mean, but I’m glad she had to run away like the little rat she is.

    • INeedANap says:

I mean, technically, JayZ should be the one running away like the rat he is…

I don’t condone cheating, nor enabling a cheater, but he was the one with something to lose.

      • Myrna says:

        I’m with you.
JayZ is the creep in this scenario.
I’ve posted at length on this…I’ll never get why the other woman is the villain while the cheating husband is spared.
And I don’t condone cheating either.
But Rachel should not be the one having to leave, although the I can’t imagine how she’d stay while the entire room paid tribute to Beyonce.
At least she’s not a hypocrite I guess.

Always get the Cat in a Hat vibe from Rachel in pics.
        It’s uncanny.
She must be less awkward looking in person.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m not excusing him just because I’m faulting her. Of course he should be held responsible. Primarily responsible. And I think Beyoncé did that – she addressed her anger towards him and just mentioned the women in passing. But I think women who knowingly sleep with other women’s husbands are selfish and cruel. They know how much pain it would cause and they don’t care. The men are worse, but That doesn’t mean the women are faultless.

    • mme says:

@i need a nap and myrna, but jayz got the brunt of it… up until Rachel called herself out and even after then he still did. Beyoncé made an album calling out her cheating husband and father (allegedly). There was not one mention of any side chick. None. The memes sprung up, jayz was getting dragged left, right and centre. It was funny and embarrassing for him (I’m sure). His own wife dragged him harder than Nas ever did or 50 cent even. His own wife put out the best diss record against him. The beyhive was going in on him (The hive actually don’t like Jay. And then came the beckiest of them all. She threw shade at Bey and made everyone thinks she’s (one of the) beckys. Sleeping with a married man in every part of the world is wrong especially if you know he’s married. And also, don’t try to tap into her pain by attention-whoring when she’s just put out an album about said husband. Rachel Roy is BFF with Chrissy Teigen and Kim kardashian so it’s to be expected. She set herself up and I don’t feel sorry for her

    • JenniferJustice says:

I think it’s funny you all think JayZ got called out and held accountable for his part when all his wife did was make a song about it…..but she stayed, acts like they’re the shiz, and even wants to have another baby with him. Yeah, she sure showed him.

Bey definitely blames the women more than she does him. She hates the other women, but she still lives with Jayz, tours with him, works with him, vacations with him, and has sex with JayZ. She may resent him for hurting her, but she forgave him for the bulk of it. She has not forgiven the women involved. That’s pretty common, but still whack.

      • ccinkissimmee says:

I haven’t commented here in many months but I felt compelled to in response to you.. I see nothing wrong with a woman fighting for her marriage. We’re not sure what goes on behind the closed doors of their everyday life but because she decided to stay with her husband doesn’t make her weak. Maybe she loves him. Further more, these women knew he was married so why is it a problem for her to be human and hurt by the combined actions of the side chica and her husband?People are terribly judgemental of others lives.

      • Youhatekids says:

I agree that it’s dumb that she stays with him. But the forgiving the husband vs. the other woman— people love their husbands (or have), but they don’t love or share anything with the other woman so it’s easy to get more angry.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I left my husband who cheated, but if she decides to stay and thinks they can work it out, who are we to say she can’t?

    • Barbara says:

Why attack Roy. Jay Z has ALWAYS fooled around on Bey. I admit I favor Roy since I know her mom, but leave the woman alone.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I should excuse her for sleeping with a married man because you know her mother? I don’t think so.

      • Lemons and Limelight says:

Rachel’s Mum should have raised her better. You don’t sleep with married men.Period. She wanted the negative attention….hell, she put herself on blast. She’s horrid.

  6. Naya says:

“She disappeared with her place card and never came back” Hahahaa! Dust to side chicks.

  7. InvaderTak says:

She didn’t know she’d be there? Really?

    • SG says:

The actual article mentions it a few times…No one knew. The award recipient was kept a surprise. Hence the fleeing.

  8. INeedANap says:

    I don’t understand what Rachel Roy does/why she’s famous?

    • Pepper says:

      She’s a fashion designer and Damon Dash’s ex-wife.

      • mary simon says:

Rachel and Solange had a conversation shortly before the infamous elevator fight between Solange and JZ.

    • sb says:

You aren’t missing a thing. Her clothing line is a huge disappointment, extremely cheap materials and construction.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      She designs ugly clothes.

    • Mika says:

Rachel Roy was also a guest judge on Project Runway several times over the past years. IMO, she was an excellent judge and should have kept her spot on the panel. Her designs are somewhat disappointing though. I feel Rachel Roy should be “where and who” what Victoria Beckham is right now – all the ingredients were there but the end product turned out differently. If she had worked with/dressed one or two really big names, she would have been further along in her careeer as she had an excellent platform to springboard from in fashion.

  9. Guest says:

Whatever. Can’t believe this Becky Bs is still a thing.
I also love that last paragraph, its really nice.

  10. Guest says:

I love how Racheal is Becky and is getting slaughtered for no reason.

  11. HK9 says:

If you didn’t do anything, why run, and with your place card too??

    • Original T.C. says:

The image off her running away with her place card is cracking me up. LMAO. Still, if she’s guilty, so is JayZ.

      • HK9 says:

Yes JayZ is guilty too(don’t even get me started 🙂 ), but the vision of her and her place card disappearing into the night is hilarious.

    • CynicalCeleste says:

Why grab her place card and run? To look guilty and create a buzz.
Why would she want to look guilty? To earn the dollahs she is getting paid by Bey & JayZ.
Why is she getting paid by B & J? To perpetuate the becky story and bump it back up in the media again.
Why would they want to perpetuate the becky story? Because it sells their product and keeps our star couple in the limelight.
Why, why, why…….. the answer is always thus: marketing.

  12. mme says:

if I were her, I would run too. But here’s the thing…. close your legs to married men. Dust to side chicks And no Beyoncé did not call out the side chick, she called out her own husband. This stupid woman decided to tap into another woman’s pain for attention and w she has to scurry around when said woman is in the building.
Bey’s tour is a success, every show is sold out, she’s set to overtake Madonna for the highest grossing female tour, Ivy Park was a success, Lemonade is #1 worldwide on iTunes currently, Bey’s net worth would probably surpass her husband’s in 2 years. Dump him, Bey. Pleaseeee do it for the sistas

    • V4Real says:

Don’t do it for this sista. And she will most likely stay with her business arrangement marriage for quite some time. They are a brand and if people think Jay didn’t know all about and was a part of the planning of Lemonade they are fooling themselves. Bey and her team are savvy business people. She probably felt she needed to top her previous albums and just singing trap songs wouldn’t do it alone. Since rumors had been circulating for so long about her and Jay splitting up and the infidelity she decided to capitalize on those rumors by publicly blasting Jay. They knew this would bring much attention to the album increasing sells as well as selling out her concert tours.

      • mme says:

80% of Beyoncé’s shows were sold out before the album was released. Ivy Park too. But I got where you’re going

    • Pepper says:

Lemonade isn’t a big hit. ANTI and Views have massively outsold it in the US and equaled it elsewhere.

  13. meme says:

I’m tired of all this Queen Bey stuff. That she actually believes it makes it worse. She’s not a style icon either.

    • RedOnTheHead says:

@meme, thank you! I was starting to think I was the only person left on the planet who doesn’t think Beyoncé is the second coming. Just don’t get all the hype about her and never will. Oh well, to each his own and all of that.

I don’t know if Rachel is Becky or not and will never really care. But running away?? WTF is up with that? That’s some high school drama style crap there. These are grown ass women for heavens sake. What is Beyoncé going to do to her at an awards show? Hold her down and beat her with one of her spangly leotards? Smdh

      • Kelly says:

Nope, she is not. When she came on the scene she was refreshing. Now she’s entitled and annoying. Get in line after Mariah and Madonna.

      • meme says:

they act like they are in HS. if Jay Z cheated he’s just as much to blame as whoever he cheated with. take two. beyonce thinks her shit don’t stink.

    • Nik says:

Hey Meme. You can’t help but talk about your favorite celeb. See you on the next Bey post.

    • what's inside says:

Me, too. I am just so over all of the hype about her and her cheating former drug dealer husband.

  14. Jh says:

Her speech was really touching, though. Awesome, really.

  15. Alex says:

Ashes to ashes. Dust to side chicks.

Welp that’s what you get for trying to be sly/thirsty and out yourself as Becky on IG. Didn’t work out so well for you.

The suit Bey is wearing is everything. Saw her concert last night in NYC and it was epic to say the least. Totally worth the lack of sleep I’m running on right now

  16. Kelly says:

I don’t think I’d dress as the metallic Minnie the Moocher if I were going to accept a fashion award.

I get tired of seeing celebs try and be edgy when it would be so much nicer if they actually went for flattering.

  17. MB says:

Yikes at all of the hardcore Beyonce stanning from a select few in this post!

And I cringe everytime I see someone quote “dust to side chicks”… its such a corny line!

    • NeneCarp says:

I totally agree with you. When Sharon Osbourne was attacking the “other woman”, people were quick to say that she should be attacking her husband but for some reason when its Beyonce, its totally fine to direct her anger at someone else (I find it ridiculous bullying someone on behalf of celebrities, i guess that’s why they called ‘fanatics’)

  18. missmerry says:

wow, beyonce making big changes for women everywhere!

    good job, girl

(also, all of that was sarcastic, clearly beyonce isn’t as good for women as women are told to believe she is…ugh)
