Kim Kardashian tweets about the Orlando tragedy, actually makes sense

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been on the move a lot in the past week. They took a vacation for Kanye’s Gemini birthday, then they returned to LA, and then they flew to Paris this weekend. These are photos of Kim and Yeezy in Paris today. Everybody is making a big deal about Kim’s body-con dress and her Yeezy Season 2 boots. Yes, Kim wears Kanye’s collection. And Kanye “designed” high-heeled peep-toe boots. These retail for $995. Would you spend that much on Yeezy boots? I would not. I wouldn’t even spend that much on boots I actually liked. I will say this though – Kim’s figure looks great here. You can really tell that she’s lost all of the baby weight. I don’t even hate the matchy-matchy dress and sweater-coat.

Kim also got pretty political on Twitter yesterday following the Orlando shooting. Kim’s spoken up in the aftermath of mass shootings before, and she’s been criticized for speaking up too. I’m sort of proud of her (if that’s the right word) for not backing down and for not resorting to false equivalencies, pettiness or threats. Here’s part of what she tweeted:

Mark the date on your calendar… I think most people agree with something Kim Kardashian said.

A million different people were saying the same thing

    • Lindsay says:

Because they don’t realize it is not a legally feasible thing. You cannot take away people’s constitutional rights without due process, anyone can accidentally wind up on the watch list. The list is rediculous and a nightmare. It is very easy to get put on there, they don’t tell you when you are added so it comes up at the worst possible time, and nearly impossible to get off of, and they have no obligation to tell you you’ve been taken off. They federal courts have demanded the FBI come up with a way to fix the list that’s been deemed “wholly ineffective” by federal judges and “bloated and imprecise” they aren’t going to let it dictate more things.

So it’s a good idea once we have a terror watch list program that actually works. Getting there is the first battle. Maybe Kim has ideas?

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/25/terrorist-watch-list_n_5617599.html

This dude was interviewed four time by the FBI and not on the watch list but the night before the FBI in Flordia wasted time harassing men that were on the watch list. They were homeless, severely mentally ill and not planning anything:

      https://theintercept.com/2016/06/12/before-nightclub-shooting-fbi-pursued-questionable-florida-terror-suspects/

      • MorningCoffee says:

Excellent points, Lindsay. We need an effective watch list with a due process feature to both be notified if you are on it and to get yourself taken off of it if you don’t belong there. As it stands, it is guilty until proven innocent. I think what has been exposed is that 15 years after 9/11, we still don’t have a reliable way to identify and track the bad guys until they actually do something. Now, I would be fine with barring those on the watch list or the no-fly list from buying guns if there was due process for them to prove that they don’t belong on the list. As it stands, there is not. Federal judges have been begging for this to be fixed for years. Still, nothing.

      • swak says:

You know who is probably on that list is Kelly Rutherford’s ex. Remember how her lawyers made false accusations about him involved in drug running and arms dealing? So it is very easy to get on the list

      • Lindsay says:

^ He for sure would be. But I bet he could get a gun in Manaco 😉

      • Fee says:

Well said. I find it very hard to believe anything that comes out of any officials mouth. Too many lies too many times. Innocent people died, well honor, celebrate n pray for them n move on. Just like all other gun massacres cause that is what it was a massacre. Nothing will change n that pisses me off.

    • Fee says:

Right mark. But when a “dumb selfish” person a.k.a. says something normal its news?! Who gives a damn what Kim n co have to say. Below her post she was in a bathing suit to show of the fake weight she lost. Release the spans n remove the jacket she wears off shoulder n show or real weight. Nobody gives a damn when the world has real issues but u keep talking n we’ll call u out.
As for those hideous boots,$1000? What happened to saving the world with his clothes, dumb ass Kanye

  2. Margo S. says:

I agree with Kim. We’ll put. Ill take it one step further though. Assualt rifles should be banned in the usa. Why would you need an effing assault riffle?! And her outfit is great. I love the boots. $995 is steep, but I assume they are made in Italy of like organic cow hide or something.

    • Bros says:

You’ll never be able to pre-identify terrorists and then deny them the right to purchase guns. The ONLY FEASIBLE response to the nexus of gun violence, mass murder, and terrorism is to LEGISLATE GUN CONTROL. WHEN WILL CONGRESS WAKE UP?

      • Mare says:

You can legislate gun control all you want…criminals will buy and sell guns whether there’s laws against them or not. Time would be better spent trying to get illegal guns off the streets and stop the flow of assault rifles into our country.

      • Lindsay says:

INTO the country?! The problem is getting them out of the US. Mexico has one gun store, guess where all their guns come from? Here. Why the hell would you smuggle in something that is freely available at a pretty low price? You can legally buy as many assault rifles as you want. The call is very much coming from inside the house on that one. You travel across the border with a gun (undeclared) you are an arms dealer. Sell one here you are a “hobbyist” on Craigslist.

      • Jwoolman says:

Lindsay is right. We don’t have a problem because of foreign gun runners corrupting peaceful Americans. We’re the gun runners… Here and elsewhere. We export guns, and our government gives them away as foreign aid.

Police say that criminals routinely get guns that can’t be traced to them by simply stealing them from other people. One of the many reasons police officers aren’t so keen on city folk buying guns for defense – besides more likely shooting a family member, the gun is likely to end up in criminal hands.

    • TrixC says:

As a non-American I simply cannot fathom why anyone ever thought it was appropriate to sell these type of weapons to the general public. In my country we have a very strict firearms licensing regime and we haven’t had a mass shooting incident for many many years.

    • Jwoolman says:

Good for her for posting it, and credit to the articulate assistant who wrote it.

    • TrustMOnThis says:

Those boots are a total knockoff of boots Frank wears in Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Just without a platform and in beige.) And his look like the infamous booties from Katie Holmes’ great escape of 2013!

  3. embertine says:

Hate the boots, but otherwise she looks great. I think it’s a shame that she always does neutrals, but a simple body con dress with a comfy looking longline cardigan is a pretty good look. Even better look: being sensible and passionate on Twitter.

  4. QueenE says:

check out the brains on Kimmy

    • Tash says:

LOL! I have a feeling she copied and pasted that from someone else. Still, good for her for speaking out even though she will most def get hate for it from some people.

      • Naya says:

She learnt from Paris mistake. Never go “full bimbo”. I bet you she has befriended a few activists who help her craft her social justice message. Its all about crafting a vacuous but relatable image.

      • Jwoolman says:

But we should give her credit for posting it in a way that will reach a lot of people. Of course, she didn’t write it. Listen to her talk. When an interview sounds articulate, we know it was a written question and answer exchange and her answers were crafted by her PR person. Likewise with tweets like this. But still it’s good that she posted it.

  5. Sabrine says:

She does make sense. Unfortunately, there are so many guns in the U.S. that anyone, including these deranged nuts, with a few hundred dollars in their pocket can likely buy an assault rifle through the underground market.

  6. Bettyrose says:

While I doubt she wrote that herself, I respect that she was self aware enough to use her platform for good and got a qualified person to write her message.

    • Susan says:

This. 10000 times over. I really don’t mind vapid celebrities when they use their platforms in the right way.

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Not only did she make sense, she looks pretty good, too. Those boots remind me of casts, though.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The boots remind me of mummy wrappings coming undone.

    • RedOnTheHead says:

@GNAT, they remind me of surgical compression stockings. The kind you wear in a longish surgery that get hooked up to a machine to keep the blood flow going in your lower extremities. I had to wear some that look just like that, minus the heel. The way they bunch up is not a cute look.

    • Nancy says:

I actually like the boots, although not in June. It appears as though she could have a nip slip at any moment, and am quite sure that is her intent. As I wrote down thread, only one of the tweets is written in her exclamation point style of writing, the other two were written for her.

  8. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Anyone seen pigs flying? They’ve got to be around somewhere…

    • Santia says:

For real. She made sense AND she looked good. The end of the world is nigh.

      • LooseSeal says:

Haha I didn’t see your comment before and said almost the exact same thing below. But seriously I can hear the pounding hooves.

  9. Tiffany says:

Agree with her tweets, not the photos. Holy Photoshop, Batman.

    • yolo112 says:

yeah…I can’t seem to make sense of her shape in these pics… she looks..like Kourtney from the neck down..?? Dare I say, slim..?? Is it really photoshopped?

And yes, her new writers are really good. I agree with her thoughts 100%…for the first time. Ever.

  10. Miss S says:

This is when I think that maybe her dumb act is just an act. But I’m probably wrong, because a broken clock is right twice a day.

Props to her for using her influence on something so important and serious.

  11. Frosty says:

So glad she tweeted about this, she’s absolutely right. Go Kim!

  12. Pandy says:

What is digging into her boobs? It’s sure not the stretchy dress. Must be the spanx.

  13. meme says:

People on terror watch lists CANNOT legally buy weapons so she’s wrong on that account.

    • Noname says:

No she’s not. Those on terror watch lists can legally buy weapons.. it’s call the terror gap for a reason.

    • Lindsay says:

Yes they can. Background checks look for felonies, involuntary hospitalization for mental illness, or a judge ruling you are mentally ill. They don’t run it against the terror watch list.

    • Anom says:

I want dangerous people prevented from getting their mitts on guns as much as the next person, but the idea of the government denying people one of their constitutional rights because his or her name is on a list makes me very uncomfortable. Any student of history knows these types of laws can be and have been perverted to squash dissent and subjugate a nation’s people. I used to feel very strongly that the right to bear arms was an outdated amendment that needed to be changed, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how important it is for a nation’s citizens to be able to bear arms. Our country’s forefathers did us a solid — it is an unique right that sets us apart. I wonder how many people would have lived if they could’ve taken up their arms to defend their freedom…in the dirty wars of S America, WWII, etc. People say that America is different, that those things can’t happen here in this time, that the govt won’t misuse those “lists”, etc…. unfortunately, that’s what people always think until it happens to them.

I don’t have any answers. I don’t want bad people to hurt others. I consider myself solidly left of center. But I also don’t want to lose the right to defend myself, my family and my country. I don’t want to lose that right because I may say or do something the govt doesn’t like (not criminal of course but unpopular, or of a certain belief system or religion, or critical of the govt, etc). I don’t want the govt putting people’s names on lists without oversight.

      • embertine says:

You’re right, it does set you apart. It sets you apart as the only developed country that has mass killings on such a regular basis. Congrats on that.

      • Lindsay says:

Thank you! The list are already misused. Giving the FBI a blank check to keep people they don’t like from getting guns using a very questionable non-reviewable practice is a bad idea. You don’t have a constitutional right to fly on an airplane or not be watched by the FBI so even though the list is problematic it isn’t directly infringing people’s rights. The 2,000 or so people on the list that have bought guns have not carried out an attack.

      • a reader says:

please explain what constitutional right we would be violating by removing weapons that can automatically or semi automatically fire more than 6 rounds? a) if you hunt and you need a semi, please go the butcher and buy your meat. 2) you’re forgetting about the whole “well regulated militia” part of the 2nd amendment. and i bet you don’t even know its history! the 2nd was actually created so that the government could establish a registry of firearm owners in case they were ever needed in defense of their government against enemies (you know, like brits and spanish and anyone else who had an interest in north america). it was never intended to allow weapons of mass destruction to get into the hands of ordinary citizens.

      • Jwoolman says:

The Bill of Rights was written at a time when many weapons we have today did not exist. The writers had just come out of a war with a king and were concerned about maintaining the right of the states to maintain their own militias, not the right of individuals to own concealable hand guns and assault weapons. Gun ownership really isn’t a Constitutional right but can be regulated by local governments, just like restrictions on driver’s licenses or hunting licenses. None of it is absolute.

Americans tend to assume they’re the only ones with guns. But people in other countries do have guns for hunting. A friend visited the USSR many years ago and was astonished at how many guns there were outside the big cities. In Switzerland, people store guns as part of their militia requirement.

But the fact is that having a gun doesn’t protect you as much as you think. There are very few circumstances when it might be useful and then mainly in very well trained hands. Most of the time, you end up doing more harm than good in an emergency or kids get your gun and shoot themselves or a family member or another kid on the playground or somebody gets drunk or abusive and somebody gets killed instead of getting just a bloody nose. A friend almost shot his own father when the guy forgot his key and was climbing in through a window.

Guns won’t help much against the government, either, because governments today have access to much bigger deadly toys. That’s why Bishop Tutu said that the anti-apartheid movement had to be nonviolent, anything else would be suicidal. Look into civilian-based defense ideas for what people can do without a personal arsenal when faced with a bad government or foreign occupier.

    • Nancy says:

What history has proven is that any sane/insane person can get a weapon in our country. @embertine, yes you’re right and it’s embarrassing and shocking and this massacre will be in the headlines until the next massacre happens, and it will happen soon. I remember in detail the day a boy in my fifth grade class shot himself in the head because he didn’t advance to the next grade. I remember what song was playing in my friend’s mother’s car as she drove us home. I cannot even conceive what thoughts my children will have thirty years from now, as this is a part of their daily life. God Bless America, and I mean that literally.

      • embertine says:

I will confess that as a Brit, I find it hard to get my head around the love affair that the US has with guns. However, for everyone who holds up the right to bear arms as sacrosanct – why do you think that law was put into place? It was to allow the American people to defend themselves against their own government. Well guess what – your government has tanks and missiles and drone fighters now. It’s not just shootout at the OK Corral anymore. Your assault rifle will not save you from the FBI, or a SWAT team, or the might of the US military. It will allow you to shoot up nightclubs and kill little kids though, so I guess that’s alright.

      • pinetree13 says:

        Such a good point embertine.

As a non-american, I too cannot understand their love-affair with guns and how their go-to solutions are always “Well, the solution is the teachers need guns! The janitors need guns! Surely if EVERYONE has the ability to kill at will, that’s the solution to gun deaths!”
It honestly makes me so angry but you just can’t change their minds. The zombie apocalypse isn’t real folks…you don’t need guns. If zombies were real they would be quickly eaten by flies/maggots. Think about it. Zombies would be rendered immobile by maggots after two days and even quicker if it was winter…they’d freeze. You don’t need guns.

  14. Nancy says:

The only tweet that sounded like her words/thoughts was the third. I’m sure the other two were scripted for her like everything else in her life. I won’t give applause for someone, especially her, stating the obvious. Five minutes after the tweet, she was making sure KUWTK was trending. That gets her excited.

  15. Anastasia says:

Why does she never sound like that when she speaks? Someone wrote than for her, but I’ll thank her anyway, for being another voice of reason.

Those boots are hideous. A nightmare.

  16. ItDoesntReallyMatter says:

    She actually looks pretty good.

  17. Mike says:

    lol, good for her.

  18. tw says:

She’s had major bootie-reduction work done! Wow.

  19. Joy says:

She must live in a world where it’s always cold. I live in the south and I’m already withering of the heat by 9am.

    • Em' says:

Never thought I would defend her “fashion” choices but it’s unusually cold in Paris right now 🙁

  20. Manjit says:

She looks like she’s been encased in an enormous surgical stocking. The clothes are better made in Primark.

  21. Izzy says:

I hate to break it to everyone, but the gun control debate is OVER, and those in favor of any kind of sensible gun control: WE LOST. We lost the day a bunch of six-year-old school children were shot and killed for no reason, and our leaders did NOTHING. That was the day we decided as a nation that it was an acceptable loss to kill innocent children in mass shootings. Debate over.

Sorry. I’m just… over it all. Can’t take any effin’ more of this.

    • pinetree13 says:

I agree. The fact that nothing happened when young children were murdered is what showed me that America will never change on this issue. I always thought if the youngest/sweetest among you were harmed it would force you to take action…but that day came and went. Breaks my heart.

    • Amanda G says:

Sad, but true. People value their guns more than human life.

  22. Q says:

    FUG boots! FUGLY!

  23. me says:

She just repeated what’s been tweeted and said about a million times. Why should she get a pat on the back for this? Nothing new being said or done. She’ll be posting nude pics soon enough and won’t mention anything about gun control until it’s in the media again.

  24. LooseSeal says:

Huh. I agree with Kim AND I like her outfit. Alas, the apocalypse is nigh.

  25. Sarah says:

I guess it is a surprise that she had an intelligent thought considering everything else she says is eye-roll inducing. Why is she always wearing long sweaters? Doesn’t she want people to see the giant plastic ass she bought?? Her body (the front anyway) looks great tho

  26. jsilly4e says:

Good tweets. Horrible boots. Too tight dress but she does look good here.

  27. Merijaan6 says:

In Canada, guns are banned. We have never had a mass shooting except for one in the 90’s at a University and we do not have a gun problem….imagine. America is one of the only countries with so many killings with guns other than war torn countries. I will never understand your “gun mentality”

  28. Alice says:

How can so many people not see the correlation? The gun issue is not just about the increased frequency of mass killings. Its about the overall attitude. The carelessness. The ignorance. How many toddlers have to shoot themselves in the head, or their siblings, or parents before people wake up and realize this Constitutional right that they cling so dearly to is not doing anyone any favours?!
