Is Tom Hiddleston coming across like an ‘opportunist’ with this Tiddles mess?

154274PCN_Hiddleswift017

Here are some photos of Tiddles leaving Rome yesterday. All of a sudden, Taylor Swift was hiding her face? That’s weird. Anyway, there are lots and lots of photos of Tiddles In Rome, like a full-blown rom-com with an unlimited budget (and major script issues). You can see some of the additional “Tiddles In Rome” photos at at this Instagram, including a makeout session they did for the paps/fans. You know, because they’re super-private! I keep telling you: we are AT MOST one month away from Taylor crying to a magazine about how she’s being slut-shamed. We’re not slut shaming her, we’re famewhore-shaming her, just for the record.

Speaking of SHAME *rings bell* SHAME, Wendy Williams had an interesting take on Tiddles – you can see the video here. Basically, Wendy thinks the whole thing is sketchy, and she absolutely thinks that Tom and Taylor have done the “let’s meet the parents!” thing too quickly, saying: “It’s only been three weeks. And she’s 26. That’s old enough to understand—like, you don’t show your feelings on your sleeve in three weeks, you know? And he’s a 30-something.” Wendy also thinks Tom is “a bit of an opportunist” because he’s just using Taylor to campaign for James Bond. You guys… why does everyone seem to think that Taylor will help Hiddles become James Bond? His chances at becoming the next James Bond starting sinking as soon as the Tiddlefest in Rhode Island came out. And at this point, every single other English, Scottish and Irish actor has a better shot at being James Bond.

What else? People Mag had a lengthy piece about Taylor and Tom’s big public date in Rome. They stayed at the Coliseum for about 45 minutes and they asked questions to the art historian leading the tour, because they are both “teacher’s pet” personalities. How does that work out in the long run though?

One last thing: People Mag also got some quotes from an unnamed “family source” in the Hiddleston family… because his family is talking to People Mag?!!? The source says: “Tom’s mom is just gushing about Taylor. She thinks Taylor is the loveliest. She was so happy to meet her…Taylor was almost immediately part of the family. She was very easy to get to know and to speak with. Tom’s family sees him as a big celebrity, but Taylor is clearly on another level.” Of course, the source also stressed how their big pap stroll in Suffolk was just the most normal thing in the world, so… yeah.

Opportunist???? Of course not! He is doing it for love!!

    • Bichon says:

      hahahaha of course he is!

    • LadyMTL says:

      Or “luv” even. 😛

Seriously, I almost wish the studio would announce the next Bond like…tomorrow, and then we could all sit back and see how long this relationship would last, especially if it’s not Tom Hiddleswift who got the part. I’d say maybe another 2-3 weeks, tops.

      • Crocuta says:

But he said he won’t be Bond at least twice. Months ago. Geez. Whatever this romance (or “romance”) is for, it’s not for that.

Stop insulting my James Bond by linking it to Hiddleston, damnit! (Although anyone would be better than Pierce Brosnan, yikes.)

      • tsc says:

I don’t think he is doing it for the Bond role either. I think he just loves the attention and wants to become a household name or whatever.

      • Lisa says:

Look before it was he’s Loki – now people remember his name. The studios watch this sort of stuff too and know he’s willing to play the game. Even if this does backfire on him when she writes an album about his weird sexual habits.

      • Noname says:

For the love of God, he is not doing this for Bond. He has said a few times he wasn’t even approached for Bond.

I’m sorry.. he went to a Selena Gomez concert with her. That spoke volumes to me. He likes her as much as he likes the attention. It can be both, people. It can both… fame and he likes her. Why is it so hard for anyone to imagine someone finds Swift likable? Why? She’s pretty, fit, young, smart and wealthy.

Just enjoy this, people. This is much easier to read about that Depp being an abusive monster. This is joy!

      • Ursaline says:

Hate to say this Crocuta, but I think the worst James Bond was Timothy Dalton. That guy wasn’t even British and the thing I remember him most clearly from was that frightening Scarlett sequel to Gone With the Wind when they ended up in Ireland. THAT guy was a REALLY terrible James Bond, so I’m thinking that while Hiddles might not be Connery or Daniel Craig, at least he doesn’t have to fake the accent, right? 🙂

      • Crocuta says:

Eh, I have a soft spot for Dalton so I am not objective about his performance. 😀

      • Sixer says:

I don’t give the chuff from a flying monkey about the next Bond. But surely by now we have ceased to rely on anything LEGS has ever said in any past interview. He’s in the middle of his own personal Backtracking Olympics, for heavens sakes.

      • justme says:

@Ursaline — um Timothy Dalton: born Colwyn Bay, Denbighshire, Wales, United Kingdom

I don’t think he needed to fake the accent.

Are you thinking of George Lazenby? He is Australian.

      • Ursaline says:

        justme,
Seriously?!? Wow, I stand corrected. I guess it just WAS that horrible Scarlett performance that ruined him for me. I agree about George Lazenby, but I need to go lie down with a cool cloth across my eyes now…. Finding my happy place…

      • Miss S says:

I think he is doing this because he knows he won’t be Bond.

      • SM says:

I don’t know. Am I in a minority here? I mean even if he was part of the conversation about the next Bond, I would think that this whole circus is not helping but hurting his chances. Because I would think that teenage girls are not the main demographic the Bond franchise targets.

      • K.C. says:

@Noname Couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you. I think the way people perceive this situation depends heavily on their opinion of Swift, but regardless of anyone’s personal feelings, she has plenty of likable qualities that a man might be interested in. And yes, the fact that he went to a Selena Gomez concert says a lot. If they just wanted to be seen for publicity, they could’ve gone to dinner. It wouldn’t have been weird for her to attend the concert with her friends and leave him home. Obviously caring about her is a big part of the equation for him, even as he is reaping other benefits.

The Depp situation is exactly what continues to put this story in perspective for me, because that story breaks my heart on so many levels. Tiddles is a happy thing, not something to look down on. I feel so lucky to find relief from the Johnny Depp stuff in these two.

    • Chaine says:

*checks to make sure paparazzi are still watching him*

    • MorningCoffee says:

And he’s looking more and more pissed off in every picture. I predict he ends this contract early, Tay Tay gets ticked and writes an epic song trashing him. I do love my Hiddles, but this is painful.

      • Noname says:

        I don’t know, I don’t see anger, I see someone enjoying himself.

      • it's like you know says:

IDK. I think it’s pretty well established that Tom H. loves the attention. I’m sure this is the fakest thing ever, but I doubt he’s some semi-willing participant that she’s dragging from pap stroll to pap stroll. Everything I’ve seen of Loki indicates that his thirst is great.

I find it hard to believe that he’d balk at the all attention now, when he’s been courting something like this for ages.

      • browniecakes says:

There are SO MANY pictures that you can, and gossip sites have, spun this both ways – totally in love, OR, totally over it.

      • Wood Dragon says:

Perhaps it’s because it hasn’t worked the way either thought it would? Instead of a glorious romance, people are going to town picking it apart for snickers and giggles. And it’ll cost him more of his credibility than it will her.

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

hahahaha of course, let’s £OVE rule their relationship.

    • Priya says:

So they met each others’ families, big deal. Some folks are laid back about that kind of thing.

  2. easi says:

    This is so embarrassing.

    • Patricia says:

Seriously. That’s all I feel, embarrassment.

    • mom2two says:

It is, for both of them. I think he’s doing it to increase his profile in general. Not just for Bond but any other high profile roles.

    • INeedANap says:

Every picture of him that comes out, the regret shows more and more on his face. All of this needs to be torn down and burned in a cleansing fire.

I miss when he was with Kat Dennings, even though I love her with Josh Groban.

    • C says:

This is getting worse than bennifer.

    • “all of this needs to be torn down and burned in a cleansing fire”…lol.

I couldn’t agree more. My place, the Highlands, this weekend.
I’ll supply the nine varieties of sacred wood for the bonfire, and perhaps some smudge sticks to hand out, just for good measure.
You guys are in charge of luring them to the bonfire. Maybe tell them that Hello or Grazia is going to be there…that should get them there no problem. Once we have them, we can cast this mess onto the fire and be cleansed!

  3. Sixer says:

Serious comment (give me points for managing one!) ahoy:

He is coming off as the same attention-seeker he has always come off as. Just with added mocking opportunities.

There. That’s all I can give you.

    • lilacflowers says:

And you’ve earned enough points for a gelato!

    • SnazzyisAlive says:

Exactly. He just has a wider audience now.
Although I have to say, as funny as this was, I’m starting to get a bit tired of it.
Same old bla bla, different city.

    • Karen says:

With the better budget and access, now that he’s using Taylor’s dime and time, the whole world knows his thirst.

    • twilly says:

They’re walking through the Vatican, one of the most stunning places on earth, and not looking at anything. These two will pap-walk anywhere. May I suggest on Mars! Idiots.

      • Sixer says:

You can’t look at THINGS when you’ve spent all night practising your Extra Special Pap Stroll expression in the mirror. It would lead to ANARCHY!

      • lilacflowers says:

There is a picture of him pointing towards something but she’s staring in the opposite direction at his chest and another of him glancing up and she’s still staring at his chest.

      • K.C. says:

@Lilacflowers I won’t hold that one against her.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’m laughing so hard as I type this. My secretary was just in my office telling me that her twin sister is on vacation in Rome and keeps running into Taylor Swift. She has no idea who Tom is and I doubt her sister does either. I’m actually surprised she knows who Taylor is. The sister was at both the Coliseum and St Peters when they were and followed them around the cathedral. So now they have my secretary’s 60 something year old twin in their thrall

      • Sixer says:

Tiddles has become a universal phenomenon.

      • Egla says:

I know what you mean. Someone had to guide me through the galleries there as my head was in the air looking at all the wonderful things. But hey I was just a regular girl and if I wanted to be photographed I needed to take a selfie .

Also we normal folks don’t seem to understand the business they are in. They HAVE to be seen, talked and commented. Isn’t that expression every publicity is good publicity. I mean he is now in a lot of peoples radar like it or not. She on the other hand is in love of course plus has more then enough singing material for at least two albums. So win win

    • Christin says:

And she’s just upping her pre-2015 game. No surprises.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

Bwwwaaahh! Gelato for everyone. Is there any part of this not being papped?

    • Sixer says:

      Mine’s a stracciatella!

      • lilacflowers says:

So is mine! I had my first stracciatella from a cart right outside St Peter’s square.

      • SilverUnicorn says:

Malaga for me, thank you (it’s rum & raisins basically). Never liked stracciatella.

    • marshmellow says:

Agreed, but this seems more desperate.

      • Blech says:

But that’s the thing (and Sixer is right) – Hiddles was always (ALWAYS) in touch with his inner famewhore. Now it has simply been unleashed. (I base this mostly on seeing him on Graham Norton so given my sample is probably not too extensive).

So don’t know why all of this is so surprising. Point a camera at him and watch him go.

Many of them get too precious about their acting and think the promotion part is below them. Which… don’t even get me started on that because OMG you have 2 jobs – to act and to promote , f**k off and perform. So the fact he went all out was what kinda made him likeable (secondhand embarrassment notwithstanding).

But the fact is he is lagging behind his peers in a highly competitive field. And he is aware of it.

So tl;dr why you all surprised? 🙂

    • RedOnTheHead says:

@Sixer: your comment up thread “I don’t give the chuff from a flying monkey”. Can you translate that into American? I love British slang and I suspect that comment was a hoot. When I tried to look up chuff, I got a wide range of uses for the word. Some of it was quite naughty….which I love!

      • Sixer says:

I don’t know where I got that from. I might have made it up myself or have stolen it at some point cos I thought it was funny. It combines “don’t give a monkey’s” with “don’t give a stuff” – both meaning “couldn’t care less”.

We also have don’t give a rat’s arse, if you’re collecting!

      • RedOnTheHead says:

Sixer, I’m always collecting. I’ve pretty much exhausted American slang. Thank you!

    • dana says:

Kudos. I have thought this since Loki promo. He saw how much attn he got from the dance move. Hes not great looking so he tries harder. As for Taylor, yikes she comes off as a cheater attn seeker. Bets on how long this lasts.

    • Poisonous Lookalike says:

It kinda pains me to say it, but you are absolutely right, Sixer. I accepted his PR too willingly.

      I’ll contribute tiramisu as penance.

  4. Maria says:

    no not at all.

  5. LB says:

Ugh. This stopped being fun to follow. Now it’s just exhausting.

    • Juliette says:

Totally agree. All the pap strolls and obvious fakery. I’m bored with them already. Next…..

    • Adele Dazeem says:

There’s that old adage about ‘leaving them wanting more.’ Taylor and Tom, a couple of grainy phone pics or one accidental pap shot would have enticed us to no end. We would have been gossiping nonstop. This is beyond overkill.

  6. Becky says:

Blank Space was a satire hey Taylor? Why are you completely living up to it then? SMH

    • tsc says:

It’s hilarious how she refuses to admit she is EXACTLY like the lyrics on that song.
“Grab your passport and my hand
I can make the bad guys good for a weekend”
Oh Taylor, stop lying to yourself.

      • Becky says:

Saw you there and I thought
Oh my God, look at that face
You look like my next mistake
Love’s a game, want to play?

        So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
        They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
        And you love the game

        Uh-huh

      • Cricket says:

I always thought the line was “got a list of Starbucks lovers… they’ll tell you I’m insane…”

      • Becky says:

Cricket, I’ve no idea I just googled, copy & paste

      • Cricket says:

Becky, you are correct.. I actually went to the Google about it when it first came out because I couldn’t believe the Tay would actually use a known copyright word in a song lyric..

Based on her virginal image, I was a bit surprised she sang ‘long list of ex-lovers’.. seems so, I don’t know grown up for her image?

    • SMcLee says:

Someone commented elsewhere that “she pretends she’s ‘I Know Places’ but really she’s ‘Blank Space’,” and it’s painfully accurate.

  7. Pinky says:

This raises his profile. Bottom line. Now he’s a household name, not just on the Internet. Just poor PR strategy, though. Because it will not end well, and he will look like a tool. I mean fool. He already is a tool.

    –TheRealPinky

    • Sixer says:

I think it’s very mean that you did not incorporate cool in your rhyming section, Pinky. You can always put an un- in front of it.

    • Mia4s says:

It raises his profile as Taylor’s flavour of the moment (and for the record she can date as many or as few as she likes) but not as an actor of any note or worth. I would be less likely to see him in a project after this because it’s harder to take him seriously!

      • Christin says:

I didn’t know much about him, other than the Hank Sr movie. Now all I will associate with him is this around the world fame seeking tour 2016.

And I’ve never understood how she still sells records so well. Will she be a 40-year-old singing about her latest victim hood?

  8. Alex says:

THEY ARE IN LOVE OKAY. THE PAPS JIST HAPPENED TO CATCH THEM AT EACH WORLD TOUR STOP IN THESE REMOTE AREAS. ITS REAL -says every Taylor stan about this relationship and every other previous one

Anyways this is right on schedule. “Leaks” about how in love they are and just so “perfect” for each other. How Taylor is just a perfect princess and that last guy just did her wrong and THIS guy is SO much better for her. Much love. Such vom. Can’t wait for Tom to run in the other direction because he will. They all do.

    • Naya says:

He wont run, thats why he is so perfect. If he did, a large swath of the public would tag him as the European gigalo who broke Muricas sweethearts heart because she couldnt give him the career he wanted afterall. And Tom really REALLY cares what the world thinks. I can see him settling into one of those reluctant upper class marriages we read about in old novels; separate beds and hidden lovers. She’ll have to pull the plug if she ever wants out.

      • Alex says:

Honestly I don’t think so but we shall see. If he wanted an upper class relationship he would probs go for a proper English girl to me

      • Noname says:

I agree with Naya… he won’t be the one to end it, she will. He’s in to win it. I am looking at the same pictures as everyone else and a) I do not see his jaw getting tighter or b) him getting angrier… in fact, I see the opposite. He’s smiling, laughing and it’s Taylor who is standoffish… I am not saying she does not love the attention she does and she has her own agenda with this romance. But he is most definitely participating and playing this willingly. I think this is what annoys/upsets the Hiddleston fans.. how he can possibly want to do something like this? Well, for starters, she’s filthy rich. Second, he loves attention and wherever she goes, she gets it.. so there you have it. Third, she is attractive, young and fit.

And Alex, it is possible he does actually like her. Look at the pictures of Hiddleston and then look at the other guys she dated… did they look half as excited as he does? This relationship might not last but it will be because Taylor runs, not him.

      • Naya says:

I dont mean that he wants a literal British upper class marriage. Obviously his goal is greater fame and wealth. I mean he would be content with living the cat lady who he secretly hates as long as he gets to rise in station himself (Hollywood station ofcourse)

      • Alex says:

Got it. Yea I mean who knows. It seemed like he was annoyed yesterday or the day before. But then he stepped his game up. So maybe he is in it to win it. I’m not in the poor tom camp I think he’s just as thirsty as she is

      • Noname says:

It does seem over the top, lol. I’m like who does the sh*t he does… It does seem like a great performance.. but he is in this to win this. If this ends, it will be Taylor ending it.

      • Evie says:

Tom is absolutely, positively, 110% in love with Taylor Swift: after all she’s given him $$$$250 MILLION reasons to love her, LOL!!!!

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Well, to be fair, there’s NOTHING remote about Rome. It’d be a big, bustling city even if it weren’t swimming in tourists too.

The photos of Tiddles at the Colosseum are only remarkable for how few people there are walking into the shot. (When you’re there, you pretty much have to point your camera upward to avoid taking a photo of a bazillion other people taking a photo.)

      • Alex says:

Oh I know I’ve been to Roma several times. its just like that “candid” photo of Taylor at Calvin’s concert where she’s magically alone in the shot. Seriously this is nothing new

  9. lindy79 says:

Are they not both thirsty and opportunistic?
Equality and all that, they both seem happy to participate in…..Whatever this is
    *shrugs*

  10. Sixer says:

Oh noes! Such is the glory of TIDDLES that I actually clicked through to the other pictures. I’m not quite lost, however, cos I haven’t been given cake yet and therefore have not watched the video.

    ANYWAY.

Oh noes again! That Instagram has the best picture ever with LEGS doing the throat-baring throw back your head when laughing while in a precious embrace with the love of your life pose. That may be too long for a headline but I don’t care. I so wish you could put it on the post, Kaiser.

EVERYONE MUST CLICK AND LOOK. It is the best picture ever, ever, ever, since a singularity went BIG BANG and the universe sprang into being.

    • Skyblue says:

I know, right? The head-thrown-back -laughing-out-loud photo is the best EVER!!!!

    • lilacflowers says:

Saw that yesterday. Yes, most fun picture almost ever. Calzone or pizza for lunch?

      • Sixer says:

Pizza. Quattro formaggi. Still can’t bring myself to watch the video though, sorry!

      • lilacflowers says:

We are on the same astral plane or something food wise today. Quattro formaggi and stracciatella! What are we drinking?

The video of Wendy Williams is not worth watching. It is Wendy Williams expounding about how she Wendy Williams is some sort of power broker with Barbara Broccoli and she never heard of Tom but she knows he is just trying to get her to talk about him because being talked about by Wendy lands the Bond role.

      • Sixer says:

Ok. I watched. Everyone’s gone mad. Mad, I tell you.

Thank the lord for Italian food.

      • Nicole says:

I LOVE Quattro Formaggi so good

    • Locke Lamora says:

The picture is hilarious. And the one where he’s kissig her hand? Who does that? They act like they’re in a 50s movie.

One positive thing – her hair looks great.

      • Sixer says:

I said yesterday that there were some glaring omissions from the UK leg of the tour as they failed both Shakespeare and Austen by not going to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage or the Bath Assembly Rooms.

I feel the same about Rome and Roman Holiday. Where was the Mouth of Truth picture? Can’t they bloody well pretend to improvise properly?

It’s a bargain basement 1950s film. They are abrogating their sacred duty of providing the BEST images. Except this one. This one rocks.

      • lilacflowers says:

Where’s the jump into the Trevi fountain? Or are the Mouth of Truth and the Trevi swimming coming today?

      • twilly says:

        And he looks drunk!

      • browniecakes says:

Taylor: “Anne Hathaway’s cottage! I totally loved the Princess Diaries movies!!”

      • Mira says:

        @ browniecakes Hahaha!

    • K.C. says:

      That picture is HILARIOUS.

Being serious: There’s a photo of them floating around where he’s pointing at a guide book (or something) looking dorky and she’s smiling while taking his picture. It’s honestly a really, really sweet picture.

I don’t think I’d ever have the nerve to take pictures of celebrities I spotted, but I’m grateful to those who are able.

    • I Choose Me says:

Wonder what they say to each to other in those moments?

Tom: The paps are in position luv. Should we go for steamy this time?

Taylor: Mmm no. Let’s keep it romantic lite. Is my hair alright from this angle? Ok don’t forget to laugh like I said something uproariously funny.

    • Kitten says:

LOL yeah that one’s great. I also love the one of him kissing her hand. Gah! So corny.

    • Hazel says:

So grateful they stood just in the right spot so we all could enjoy the moment with them.

    • Scotchy says:

@Sixer ,you, milady are the best. All the gelato is for you today!!!
I am in a fit of giggles right about now!! Thanks for the morning laugh!!

    • Dlo says:

Oksixer I looked cause you said too. 😅😅😅😅😅. Thank you I soooo needed that laugh this morning!

  11. DiamondGirl says:

It looks like she’s just adjusting her sunglasses, not hiding her face.

  12. lilacflowers says:

Wendy Williams is the one coming off as the opportunist here. She actually puts forth that Tom’s motivation for all this is to have her, the great Wendy Williams, mention him on Hot Topics because if the great Wendy Williams mentions you on Hot Topics, well, Barbara Broccoli sits up, takes notice, and hurls a Bond contract at you.

    Check that ego, Wendy.

    • K.C. says:

It’s pretty amusing that Wendy Williams thinks Tom Hiddleston cares what she thinks of him, or that it matters that she has never heard of him before.

Anyway, wish people would stop tying this to Bond. He’s not getting it. He has said so (and not in the “just being polite” way–I think he means it). And even if he was still in the running, you don’t date Taylor Swift to get that role. That just…doesn’t compute. I’m sure he’s thrilled this is raising his profile, but I don’t think anyone is being “used” beyond that. They’re clearly having fun and just not keeping it on the down-low.

I think they hype surrounding this couple is becoming a lot more tiresome than the couple themselves at this point. Taylor is papped constantly (on purpose or by coincidence–either way, it seems like it’s an almost daily occurrence), and now she just has a new guy in tow. Tom has always liked attention. Literally nothing happening here should be new or surprising or strange.

      • lilacflowers says:

Yes, it is pretty amusing that Wendy thinks Tom cares what she thinks and outright hilarious that Wendy believes Barbara Broccoli cares what she thinks. Or watches Hot Topics.

I agree with your points about hype but there are those who seem to equate PR with assault or something equally egregious and will go on and on about PR when they simply need not look.

And where shall we travel today?

      • K.C. says:

Seeing the letters “PR” typed out one too many times has made me go a bit twitchy lately. Of all the things a celebrity can do, wanting to raise their profile or get good PR is so incredibly low on my list of things to dislike them for. I’m more concerned with if I enjoy the entertainment they put out, if they’re talented, and if they seem like decent people. I mean, they’re famous. PR is part of the deal. Some celebrities, particularly the ones who have really worked to get to where they are, want to control the narrative. My control-freak tendencies understand this, lol.

Next stop is surely Paris, although I do wish they’d get some London time in. If we stop in Paris, I could go for a macaron (or six).

      • justme says:

K.C. – I like your take on all of this. So many people seem so offended by the entire business! Nothing I have seen in any of these pictures mean that I will enjoy “The Hollow Crown” or “War Horse” less (I’ve never seen him as Loki – not my kind of picture.) I probably will see “I Saw the Light” on Netflix – the picture may not be a great one, but his performance is said to be good.

As for Taylor Swift – I have never paid her much mind. She appears to a pretty young woman who had intensely devoted fans. She doesn’t seem to have dated much more than other 26 year old women in show business.

It may mostly be PR — but the pictures have been loads of fun to look at. Handsome man and pretty girl in pretty places – a lot more fun than the news these days!

I expect the actors I like to have messy private lives – they invariably do. Even if you don’t know about when they are alive, it comes out after they die (I’m a fan of old Hollywood). Not all of them, but most.

      • Kitten says:

@KC-I also like your take on all things Swiftles.

      • K.C. says:

        Aww thanks, @justme and @Kitten!

I like his movies and I appreciate her songwriting. I don’t think either one is the best of the best when it comes to their respective fields, but I think they’re both fairly talented and work hard to put their best foot forward. On top of that, they both have a reputation of being wonderful to work with/wonderful to fans. To me, that’s all I need to find them reasonably likable, especially next to many of their peers. They’re probably just as messy as the rest of us underneath it all, and that’s fine.

I’m having trouble finding fault in them enjoying attention. I think most entertainers enjoy it, otherwise they wouldn’t be in this industry. I also admittedly find their enthusiasm a bit endearing, even if it so obviously displays their love of the spotlight. There’s an authenticity in that I find refreshing, tbh. Basically, they’re harmless and this makes for a fun story.

      • ohdear says:

        @K.C., I agree too.

I also wonder how a young girl who has been sheltered so much, and been the focus of her parent’s time and attention learns how to develop normal relationships. How many authentic, healthy relationships has she seen in her life that should could observe and learn from? From the age of 12, the adults in her life have strategized and executed things to move her forward in the industry. Most of the adults in her life have probably focused time with their spouses to help her career. So I can understand why she is immature and has movie-inspired relationships that have the appearance of PR – I think that is what this girl has to go on.

  13. Matador says:

    That man is thirsty.

  14. boredblond says:

Who knows? Maybe it’s love, maybe it’s hype–maybe it’s lype…the only sure thing is they have pr people feeding People..just like every other celeb.

  15. Christin says:

She’s on another level. Family quotes from the Clooney -Amal playbook.

  16. Liberty says:

‘He realised he would have to make sacrifices to make it big,’ says the friend. ‘Some people would get closer than others, but they would find out in the end that his career comes first.
‘Even his best mate came second when the chips were down.’

His determination to succeed, however, has made him lonely.
‘Being so focused on success isolates him,’ explains the friend. ‘Hundreds of people consider themselves his mate, but probably no more than half a dozen truly know him — if that. As for women, they are only allowed to get so close, then he moves on.No more than half a dozen friends truly know him.

‘But being a chameleon suits him. It’s his short-cut to success. That and a complete lack of fear.’

    • kai says:

“No more than half a dozen truly know him”, “Hundreds of people consider themselves his mate”

Hundreds of people who like me and a handful close friends sounds like a great life to me. /shrug/

      • freebunny says:

It looks more creepy to me, like I’m smily to hundreds of people but only a half dozen know I’m a jackass.

      • kai says:

lol, yes, that’s another way to look at it. (And probably closer to the truth)

    • Hazel says:

Liberty – I truly thought you were launching into one of your famous fictional series, only this time for Tiddles instead of Bill & Cathy Cambridge. That this is a quote from an actual news outlet is astonishing.

  17. NewWester says:

Has Tom’s father made a comment or appearance in this affair? There are mentions of Tom’s mother and sisters. Or is he deceased?

    • lilacflowers says:

His father is alive. They have not visited him during this worldwind continental tour. Nor have they visited Tom’s own house.

    • H says:

I’m sure he has a small flat in London, right? How could Tay Tay and her cats even fit in there? 🙂

      • Dara says:

Decent-to-large by London real estate standards, and it has everything city dwellers have wet dreams over: off-street parking, small garden, gate driveway, etc. Plus he has Helena Bonham Carter as an almost-next-door neighbor. If he ever sells that place he’s more of a fool than I ever thought he was…oh, wait.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Dara, and lots and lots of book shelves filled with lots and lots of books.

      • Dara says:

Yeah, the books would have to go if Taylor ever got the whim to redecorate. There’s not enough shelf space for the books AND all the cat figurines.

  18. Guest says:

So over these two. Why are people still talking about them? Just don’t care and they will vanish. Hopefully because this is embarassing. I actually do not blame her. She is immature but a 35 years old guy who is acting like a teen? We got it, Tom. Shouting from the roof tops and…… Just go away, now. People can’t see this anymore.

    • lower-case deb says:

      speaking of ages,
the saga of Taylor and Tom finally made to the mid-weekly teen gossip tv show my daughter watches. “Why is Taylor dating an old guy?”

being that this is the rare teen gossip i’m fully cognizant with and wanting to show off my knowledge, i said “just six or seven years difference. nbd really.”

“is he rich?” she asked completely ignoring me.

“he’s Loki from the Thor movies. and Taylor might be richer than him?”

      “he’s so old.”

      “he’s Loki.”

      “ew, old.”

LoL. he’s officially That Old Guy that Taylor Swift Dates in my household. poor him.

      • Sixer says:

I love this. That Old Guy in the minds of teen girls.

The Sixlets (tween boys) think the opposite. This is a step down for him because OBVIOUSLY doing all this girly dating stuff is a FATE WORSE THAN DEATH. He is now officially UNCOOL.

      • Becky says:

I remember when I was that age, 35 was really old too. It wasn’t until I was into my 20’s that it became more attractive. One of my big crushes was 9 yrs older.

      • lower-case deb says:

        @Sixer,
oh wow! our Hiddles isn’t doing so well in this demographic is he?

(Le Daughter, despite her penchant for teen gossip is still a tween as well. playdate? lol)

tween-time is such a difficult time. wanna be cool like Big Bro’s female friends, because of… reasons “Honestly ma not boys!”) errr. well.

@Becky, that’s what i thought too until i remember she has a crush on the new Q (from James Bond, Ben Whislaw (?) i seem to remember that he’s about Hiddle’s age (give or take one or two years)? i read it in one of the Hollow Crown write ups i think.)

could also be the case of Hiddles being too old-looking, or Ben being too baby-faced?

or perhaps just Hiddles being in the proximity of Taylor who, like Ben, doesn’t look her age, necessarily?

  19. SilverUnicorn says:

I wonder when the Coliseum became art and stopped being a historical monument. Tiddles seem on an endless photoshoot or filming a rom-com in different locations lol

  20. Timothy Dalton was the best James Bond ever. I don’t see this pretentious joker as Bond. I saw one pic in daily fail, on the beach, where he is giving creepy smile straight at cameras. eeek!

    • twilly says:

You said it! In some pics he really does look creepy.

    • lisa2 says:

Timothy was one of the most beautiful ones for sure.

I liked campy Bond.. it was fun.. NOW he is too serious and there are not laughs..

All of this parading around will end when people stop talking about them. But that is not going to happen.

    • ChocoChipDstryr says:

I always thought it was funny that Timothy Dalton was more beautiful than his Bond girls.

    • Ursaline says:

Sorry to have to disagree with you nullius in verba, but I thought Timothy Dalton was a terrible James Bond. Pretty yes, but after that horrible Scarlett miniseries, he just can’t hold a candle to Connery and Craig. Different demeanors entirely.

      • Ursaline says:

justme has set me back on the path of truth and pointed out that Timothy Dalton is indeed from the UK. Can’t believe how badly that GWTW Scarlett thing broke his mojo. Thanks for the facts justme. I appreciate it. 🙂

  21. Crocuta says:

Even I know he has denied any chance of him being Bond way before this Taylor business started. I seriously doubt gossipers didn’t see those articles, they just keep bringing it up because it keeps the narrative juicier. Is it too much to ask for gossip sites not to blatantly lie about things? I guess so.

So no, he will not be Bond. And that has nothing to do with this (faux) romance.

    • lilacflowers says:

Or Wendy Williams not to lie about things and appoint herself omnipotent in deciding who gets to be Bond merely by naming the person on her show?

    • I Choose Me says:

      Exactly. Thank you!

    • Luca76 says:

Wendy Williams is an idiot she researches exactly nothing ever. She’s fun to watch sometimes. I used to enjoy her radio show because she entertaing but actually believing anything she says is silly.

    • Kitten says:

      ITA

  22. betteboo says:

Nice way to deflect Kanye’s famewh*re move Swifty! I reckon she knew the video was coming out and this ‘lovefest’ makes a great overriding narrative

    • Anett says:

WOW, a very good point! Congrats!

    • Hudson Girl says:

That’s what I was thinking yesterday- and it’s working for the most part. I’m actually confused that everyone isn’t talking about this being her/their true goal.

    • K.C. says:

If that’s her main goal, she deserves a round of applause. Kanye is gross.

    • Bonzo says:

I tend to agree with you, along with Dara’s suggestion that the romance roll-out was to happen earlier, but Calvin’s car accident pushed the timeline back just a bit.

  23. Prairiegirl says:

Yes, but I assume your question is rhetorical.

  24. Mira says:

Why is his family talking to People Magazine? And in what world is someone you just met who you’re son dated for 3 weeks already part of the family?? LOL
Sounds like the whole Hiddleston clan is drunk on the media attention

    • margaret says:

‘Tom’s family sees him as a big celebrity, but Taylor is clearly on another level.’- it seems Taylor ‘s pr-people brag about her again. No way it’s from Tom’s family.

      • Mira says:

“a Hiddleston family source tells PEOPLE exclusively”

      • kai says:

THat quote is sad and icky. Surely you’d want people, especially family, to see you as a normal person and treat you normally instead of being in awe of some bullsh-t fame? Am I supposed to be impressed by this?

      • K.C. says:

Based on what Tom has said about his sisters, I highly doubt they see him as a big celebrity. I’m sure they’re proud of his accomplishments, but they also seem like they’d be a grounding force, not in awe of his greatness.

“A family source,” if a real source at all, is probably a third-cousin once removed. Lol.

      • Dara says:

Or a store clerk in town. It sounds like Mama Hiddleston could have been making polite small talk when she went shopping to restock after the weekend’s festivities. “Yes, yes, she’s a lovely girl – please double bag the potatoes – very down to earth – could I have a case of wine delivered?”

      • kai says:

People doesn’t print stuff without celebrities’ approval (or very rarely) and why would a store clerk from Suffolk talk to American People Magazine, exclusively? IN this case, I believe this is coming directly from T+T. (Not from their mother or sister, but from them.)

      • K.C. says:

@Kai People has been slipping pretty significantly in their journalistic integrity lately, to be honest. I quit reading it because it was turning more and more into a gossip rag. So made up sources wouldn’t shock me.

  25. Patricia says:

They only spent 45 minutes seeing the Coliseum?! Come on now. I spent over two hours in a Scottish castle ruin last week, with a toddler in tow. My toddler has more appreciation for historical monuments then these two fame-hoes.
I only wish I had the opportunities they have. I wouldn’t waste it on a never ending pap walk. I’d see the world and actually SEE the world.
    That’s my issue haha.

    • Jane says:

IKR? I’ve been to the UK several times and every castle I’ve visited took close to 2 hours. And don’t get me started on how long it took me to get through Chatsworth House. Ha…45 minutes there would have got me through the main hall only!

Tay-Tay and Tom took 45 minutes so they could spend the rest of the time making out.

And since when has she suddenly felt the need to be so bloody “CULTURED”?

    • Luca76 says:

Well they did have a guide so that’s how long the tour was I guess???

      • Patricia says:

You take the tour to learn about the location. You don’t usually go running our after a short tour. Unless you have absolutely no interest in anything that doesn’t involve you and your own fame, that is.

      • Luca76 says:

I mean believe it or not I’m neutral on them and their prmance. But that minor detail meant nothing. Maybe they went and saw some secret artifacts in another location? Maybe their tour was detailed enough that they felt like they’d learned enough and didn’t need to stay longer? I don’t think staying 45 minutes proves anything. Or is any inherent statement on their famewhoreness. Now the blatant pap strolls on the other hand.

    • Rachel says:

I’m offended by the fact they spent all of two days in Rome too!

    • SilverUnicorn says:

Went to visit the Coliseum nearly 30 years ago and I didn’t spend more than 30 minutes inside, it’s not like there is much inside. Spent about 4 hrs and a half in Stirling Castle first time I went though….

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’ve been to the coliseum several times and never spent much time there because, although it is historic and really cool architecturally, you can only just walk around on the open levels and there’s no art to see. It is basically just a ruined stadium. With lots of cats. I have some fantastic pictures of cats in the Coliseum.

      • justme says:

Lots of cats! Now that’s something Swiftie would like! 🙂

    • Dara says:

I think I’m going to forgive them this one. Speed works in their favor, unless they want complete pandemonium (more than is already happening). If they linger in one place too long, fans and paparazzi will descend like it’s Black Friday at Walmart.

    • Solanacaea (Nighty) says:

What?? 45 minutes at the Colosseum?? WHAT???? I take longer doing my shopping at the supermarket, let alone seeing a monument…

  26. D says:

I think that whatever happens to his career now will show if all PR really is good PR.
I would vote for Aidan Turner as the new Bond.

    • Jane says:

He would be delicious as a Bond, but isn’t there going to be the 2nd season of Poldark filming? If by chance a new Bond would be in the works, I’m not sure if could do both.

      • Becky says:

Jane, 2nd series of Poldark has already been shot and a 3rd series is planned for Sept.

    • frisbee says:

Yes and me, he has the sex appeal, the charm, the accent and a dark streak – even if in real life he seems like a total goofball, he’s a good enough actor to pull it off..

      • INeedANap says:

        <3 Mitchell <3 4eva

That's a great suggestion, although I'd love to see him as a villain to Idris Elba's Bond.

    • Crocuta says:

No, no, please not “the sexy dwarf”.

For some reason I find him off-putting. I blame the cheesiness that is The Hobbit.

  27. Looty says:

They’re celebrities, it’s fake, so what. Funny comments are a joy but serious analysis of whether it’s fake are so boring.

    • Kitten says:

Precisely my thoughts. But Swifty is much like Aniston in that her detractors are more invested in her than her fan base is.

      • Ican't says:

        @Kitten

Lol on what planet…. you haven’t been on other sites have you and you can say that about any celebrity.

Now if you want to make such a comparison then it would be the Kardashians, the detractors are the ones who comment on their post and watch their shows.

        @Lofty

Come now these photo ops and their PR team running to the media has gotten boring.

      • Kitten says:

        @ICan’t-
        ??
I don’t really see how you can argue about this, unless you’re just not reading the comments.
There’s been what, like 10 posts about these two since Tiddles started with 400-500 comments per post. And a lot of the same commenters saying how “desperate, thirsty, pathetic, whatever” Swift is and they say that on every post, sometimes multiple times.

Personally, I would never waste that much time commenting on a celeb that I hate, particularly one who is relatively bland when compared to other celebrities.

        But that’s just me…
        *shrugs*

      • Ican't says:

        @Kitten

I was more talking about the Aniston comparison. Like I said if you are going to make a comparison the Kardashians would be a better fit. People go on the Kardashian post and make the same comments over and over again and have been doing it for years

I guess if celebrities are going to be so obviously attention seeking day after day people are going to make the same comments.

Personally I tend to avoid all those post, I only click this one to figure out why these two photo op were getting so many commonts.

      • Bonzo says:

I find trying to figure out the PR strategy fascinating. I don’t follow Swifty, but Tom I do and since this is a departure from Tom’s previous image of being very private with his personal life, I’m curious as to what has caused such a dramatic change in persona.

And, as Sixer and others have said, He’s really good for a laugh. I like laughing to the point of peeing my pants. I need more Piddles in my life.

  28. Micki says:

You may laugh but I started to believe that Taylor WAS serious about Calvin Haris after she turned the perfect coup into a perfect joke. I think that she’s drunk on the feeling of revenge and is still getting high with every pap-stroll and simply can’t stop.
Tom looks like an opportunist to me and only time will tell if it’s really so.
And yes, he’s campaigning . Just not for Bond- for Tom Hiddleston instead.

  29. margaret says:

So, if Tom is “a bit of an opportunist” then what’s about Kim and Kanye call out Taylor a liar?

  30. shelly says:

I wonder if he’s been practising the James Bond, pointy gun move, that they have at the start of the films, in front of his bedroom mirror.

    I’d like to think so.

  31. Elisa the I. says:

“…they asked questions to the art historian leading the tour, because they are both “teacher’s pet” personalities…”
why is that a bad thing? The advantage of taking a guided tour is to get profound info by an expert, so why not make use of it?

Also, I so hope that she follows him wherever he films next because the comments are pure gold! Especially those who state that they are so sick of them already. 🙂

    • freebunny says:

45 minutes seems quite quick for me.

If I was with a private guide I think I would spend at least one hour.

    • Miss M says:

One can only hope she will drop him off in Australia in her private plane , so she can meet his Marvel co-workers…

    • Crocuta says:

Freebunny – You went from 45 to 60 minutes? That would OF COURSE enlighten you so much more. *faceplam*
Seriously people, if you think 45 min of a guided tour is too little, at least pretend you’d stay there for 4 hours. Not one hour.

  32. sauvage says:

    HELL, YES!

  33. Sue says:

I don´t believe that at least her PR isn´t checking the public opinion on this (via twitter, Instagram, tumblr etc.) and maybe they will correct / are correcting the narrative. But it doesn´t matter if this romance is real of fake, Tom went from “charming, humble, incredible talented *blablabla* actor” to “thirsty, famewhoring, embarrassing laughable opportunist” in the public/ fans eyes with the speed of light and this will stick with him forever. If this is true romance “was the high worth the pain”?” It will remain tattooed on the internet for ages. Since this began neither Tom , nor Taylor were confronted with some reporters or haven´t took part on any public event. How this will go in the future? No more chatting with fans, no more autographs, no more “dancing bear”? Bodyguards also for him? I cannot imagine his presence on the SDCC 2016…

    • freebunny says:

I think that if it was true romance, he would have ask some privacy in the very first months, if he is as private as some of his fans say.
And if it was true romance, Taylor would have agree to curb her PR thirst.
I know I would not want to expose a fledging relationship to the gossip world.

  34. Irene says:

I don’t think he’s campaigning for Bond anymore, I think that ship has sailed and he knows it. I think he’s just trying to get to that next level of fame. Although his fans don’t like to admit it, he was basically unknown outside of the Marvel movies, and he’s hoping this will put him on the radar of non-Marvel fans. He’s gotten more press in the last week than he’s had in his entire career. He knows exactly what he’s doing.

But you know, they might just be a fantastic match. She’s very calculating when it comes to the press, and clearly he’s on the same page. They could be made for each other.

  35. I Choose Me says:

I’m baffled as to why people insist he’s doing this as a campaign for Bond. He’s said repeatedly he’s not in talks for Bond. Most of the hubbub about him and Bond came about because he played a spy in the Night Manager.

As a matter of fact, I’ll go as far to say this whole showmance or whatever it is he’s doing is because he KNOWS he will never be Bond and therefore this is his next best bet at raising his profile. Which he definitely has.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

He campaigned for Bond but if you believe the rumors, the negotiations failed because of his agent ( he wanted too much money) and Bond’s producers changed their mind

  36. MrsBPitt says:

    I swore I wouldn’t click on anymore Swifty/Hiddleston posts. CAN’T…STOP…MYSELF…

    • Jane says:

Don’t worry, hon. You’re not alone. I go for this clickbait just to get my snark on. LOL

    • zinjojo says:

But it’s the funniest, tastiest gossip in a long time, so no shame. Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts, and then sit back and watch the fall out when it ends. I just hope they continue through the summer.

    • I Choose Me says:

      I’m right there with you.

  37. Mikie says:

They are both boring and vaguely annoying. But her handbag is amazing. Anybody have an ID On the brand?

  38. Mira says:

Ok i laugh at this, its an amusing spectacle but on the other hand
What gets me is that he hasn’t said anything about Brexit. Even Zayn and Niall from One direction tweeted about Brexit. The UK is pretty much in meltdown with racist attack on the rise by almost 60% since last thursday, the labour party is self imploding, the right wing is taking over the Tory party, Nigel Farage is in Brussles gloating and making enemies on our behalf, our credit rating has been down graded, the pound has plummeted almost unprecedented, Scotland seeking another referendum and the nation is divided. And hes just out there prancing about in private planes and doing pap walks. Even Zayn is more concerned about the state of the nation.. I mean Zayn.. Come on Tom,use that expensively educated brain of yours for something useful.

    • Kita says:

Mira, he is always very careful to abstain from political comments. In the last 2 years he once said he was interested in Corbyn’s policies, but also that he more or less wants to stay away from making his stances known — rather like the British Royal Family, he wants to stay pretty neutral…

Good luck to everyone in the UK, Istanbul, and everywhere.

    • Mira says:

The royal family are constitutionally not allowed to express political opinion. So that is not comparable. Either way you can comment on whats going on without being overtly political. Its really about how we deal with the fall out from brexit now. The referendum already happened

    • lilacflowers says:

He did tweet that people should vote and why it was important to do so. Other than his UNICEF work, he avoids political commentary.

      • Mira says:

But if you look at what Zayn says that is not an overtly political comment as such. Its just a comment on how we need to move forward. He isn’t saying vote this or that. Its possible to be socially engaged without specifically saying stuff about party politics. I just find it strange that hes not engaged with whats going on, especially with whats going to be such a massive change and the ugliness thats going on in the aftermath.

      • Noname says:

Mira- He’s not Zayn, though. He avoids political commentary altogether.

      • Mira says:

        No name

I know hes not Zayn. That was kind of the point. Like i said it wasn’t really a political comment Zayn made. He just asked that people unified rather then fight. i I don’t see why Tom couldn’t make such comment too ,i mean i wouldn’t classify urging people to calm down a volatile situation as political necessarily.

    • anon123 says:

“What gets me is that he hasn’t said anything about Brexit.”

He has always been like this – Mr. Don’t Rock the Boat, similar to Eddie Redmayne. You never know where they truly stand. That used to drive me crazy, especially in Redmayne.

    • justme says:

I must say I am always glad when actors don’t give us their wisdom on political matters. Why dressing up and impersonating other people and being paid large amounts of money for it should give you any insights is beyond me.

  39. Kita says:

Kaiser, I think there is a difference between the relationship being perceived by people as an opportunist’s dream, versus it actually helping anyone be cast as Bond. Sadly for Hiddles.

As quiet and careful as Tom and his family seem to have been for years, I find it jarring that suddenly it’s not just a meet-and-greet, but there are insider family quotes now too! By golly, go the whole hog. Pics and quotes! I know some people think we’re ‘haters’ when we point this out, it’s just… all this time he did seem to be different than this, and I guess this really means that commenters like Sixer, Nutballs, Miss Jupitero, and others have really been right about his persona and his publicity-hunger, etc. I think that is what Wendy Williams and others are talking about, not that they really (or anyone else) think that this improves his chances.

    • Sixer says:

Much as I’m enjoying TIDDLES, Kita, you have my sympathies. Really.

Going forward, I recommend everyone adopt my internet boyfriend policy: superficial bangability only, always assume said internet boyfriend is a twat, laugh at them from the get-go, buy ball gags.

In light of TIDDLES, I might add blackout contact lenses to the shopping list, in case of TIDDLES-like episodes and the associated pictures, but quite how that interacts with checking bangability, I have yet to work out.

It’s the best – and most entertaining – option, I promise.

    • K.C. says:

I think he has always been hungry for attention and approval, for sure. He’s so darn eager in some of his TV appearances, bless him. That said, I wouldn’t put much stock into what tabloids tell us about inside family sources. That’s 99% not real, so you can at least remove that aspect from the equation.

They MUST be all-in with this relationship, otherwise they’d let up on being seen together. The media is continuously mocking them and they keep chugging along. Or as they say, shaking it off. I have to say–while there is obviously a level of publicity involved in this relationship, it must kind of hurt if they’re genuinely into each other and people are saying it’s all fake. I know they’re kinda bringing it on themselves, but…eh, I just don’t envy celebrities who have as high a profile as Swift.

    • Mira says:

      @Kita @Sixer
My new internet boyfriend is Jesse Williams. Hot and brainy and using his fame for something good instead of this thirsty fluff.

    • Kita says:

Thanks Sixer, that is really sweet of you, and great advice too. I’ll remember it 🙂 Haha about blackout contacts. Maybe just a little magic eraser for all the times we need to forget our fallen fancies (not that he is fallen, mind you, I just like how that sounds).

K.C., for their sake I hope they are really happy with what comes, whatever that may be. I am all for there being more happiness in the world. And I am sure we will all benefit from this expensively appointed, all luxuries included, diversion.

Mira, Jesse is a great choice to celebrate! For the comment above, the British Royal family was an analogy, not that I think he is royal. : )

  40. Kilo Tango says:

Never have I ever lost a ladyboner for a celeb crush as fast as I have for Hiddles. Id have had more kudos for him if he was found tooting coke with hookers in a sex dungeon. This whole Tiddles thing is really grim – a new low!

    • Kate says:

This made me laugh so hard. And ITA with everything you said, Kilo.

    • Londongal says:

AGREED. We’ve left the EU and my cast iron ladyboner for Hiddles is literally dead. Everything I thought I knew is in chaos.

Seriously, it’s lose-lose. Genuine? a 26 year old weird pap courting circus prostituted life kid….respect lost. OR he’s a thirsty, disingenuous fame whore who wants fame so badly he’ll make himself a laughing stock AND rope in his adoring and clearly previously private family to do it?! GROSS. I’m out.

  41. anon123 says:

Yep, that is what I said a couple days ago – he looks very much like an impoverished English rake looking to marry a rich American , a la a Regency romance.

    • lilacflowers says:

      The Buccaneers!

    • Yellowrose says:

Brilliant observation! Right out of a Georgette Heyer novel! Next thing you know, Tay Tay will appear in a high-waisted dress with little sleeves. Now I bethink me, that headband she wore on her country trek the other day is rather reminiscent of headwear for ladies of that era . . .

  42. Skins says:

Of course he is. Why else would he be with her? She isn’t sexy, she obviously isn’t pleasing her men, her whole life is a circus. I’m sure he could pull hot chicks if he wanted. Why else would he be wasting his time with her. This farce will end soon

    • Yellowrose says:

Maybe underneath it all, hot chicks aren’t all that interesting to him.

    • “She isn’t pleasing her men” what a gross statement.

    • Annetommy says:

i don’t know what this “she isn’t sexy” is about. Pretty face, slender figure. But even if she didn’t look look like that, there are all kinds of variants on sexy. And if you mean her personality, we don’t know her and that’s subjective too. The same applies to Tom; it’s nonsense to suggest that she couldn’t find him sexy. Frankly some of the comments – not necessarily here – about not being able to imagine them having sex because they are so asexual are pretty gross. Maybe I’m in the minority but personally I don’t mentally picture any celebs having sex together.

  43. Yellowrose says:

“Some things are sacred” but don’t worry, if it means a bump up in my public profile, it will be a little less sacred and we’ll be sure to bring the paps along on the, er, honeymoon.

    LOL.

  44. Liz says:

Wendy Williams is being taken seriously as some judge of character? She is the bottom feeder of gossip. She always has the outside scoop.
Taylor is not about to open her legs and her purse to some opportunist! She is an excellent businesswoman. She is also talented, beautiful and well spoken. This comment section is becoming Ike a middle aged version of ONTD. Piling on and cruelty for cruelty sake.

    • browniecakes says:

What I like about what Wendy said and I don’t know a thing about Wendy, is that she has no idea who Tom is so she is calling this as she sees it. She’s sees a guy who can be set for life if he hooks up with this girl. Golddigger.

      • Lilacflowers says:

What Wendy sees is an opportunity to insert herself into the narrative to garner attention for Wendy. Which she has succeeded in doing as her comments are now being covered by other news sites and gossip columns.

    • Frexit says:

Taylor is hardly talented and frankly she’s been looking none too cute either lately.

I agree, I thought she was okay at PR but apparently not.

      • Crocuta says:

Swift is the 4th highest grossing musician of last year. You cannot always equate numbers with talent, but there’s obviously something about her that resonates with her audience. And Liz is right, Swift is an excellent businesswoman to make it where she is right now (even if that means employing the right people).
As for her looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      • Liz says:

Not talented? She has won multiple awards including 10 Grammys.
I think she’s never been more beautiful than right now.
What did she do anyway? Fell in love with a bunch of nerd’s fantasy boyfriend.

      • margaret says:

Sorry but I agree she’s not talented. The only young talented singer right now is Ariana Grande. Swift is not even close to her. Swift is all PR.

    • Ican't says:

      @Liz

I agree with you on Windy Williams, I hope you don’t think theyes are in a real relationship because if you do I have a Bridge to sell you and Kim Kardashian has never had plastic surgery. Lol

They both seem to be using each other to benefit their needs.

  45. Jade says:

It’s so odd, I’m half inclined to have the same theory as Micheal K. That this showmance is some weird performance art, some post-modern commentary on showbiz and privacy. Like Britney Spears’ video for If You Seek Amy.

As for Wendy William’s theory, meh. It’s like she just read Celebitches’ comments lol.

    • Lynnie says:

hA. That would require the ability to think beyond themselves which none of them has. Love If You Seek Amy, gonna go listen to it now.

  46. Clémence says:

“Baby i’m just gonna fake, fake it off, fake it off.” I suggest a new version of Shake it of for team taytay !!!

  47. DT says:

I found a random article from an australian publication before on Twitter about how there is problems between them already, how “Tom is getting sick of the media attention and its causing a rift, also that it can be very suffocating when someone wants to insert themselves into every aspect of your life”,or something along those lines.
Now I’m not sayin I believe any of this to be true or come from real sources, before you all jump on me for being gullible, because why would an australian publication have the ‘inside scoop’
alls I am saying is that I find it interesting that this is being put out there in the media already, in the midst of the most romantic whirlwind romance ever. Clearly Taylors PR arent controling every narrative.

  48. browniecakes says:

I saw that the shooting schedule for Thor 3 may be July-Oct. TH has to promote the monkey movie in Feb. and March. This is TnT’s window to be together – an overlapping spot in both their calendars which is probably rare. So they’re gunning the engine. However, she was ‘in love’ with Calvin not two months ago. And she has such a history of going through men like potato chips so I don’t know what is going on. I can’t tell if they are on the verge of getting engaged or the too hot not to cool down intensity will burn out the engine.

  49. bread says:

“Tom’s mom is just gushing about Taylor. She thinks Taylor is the loveliest. She was so happy to meet her…Taylor was almost immediately part of the family. She was very easy to get to know and to speak with. Tom’s family sees him as a big celebrity, but Taylor is clearly on another level.”

Why are PR sources always so over-the-top? Doesn’t it come across even faker when everyone is “the loveliest” and “immediately part of the family”? Wouldn’t you just inject reasonable-sounding tidbits about the awkwardness of making tea for and chit-chat with Taylor’s five bodyguards? Or the oddness of seeing a pap as you went for a walk in your quiet English town? Just some small details to make it believable?

    • I Choose Me says:

That seems to be the M.O. of tabloid rags in general. Hyperbole. Puns. Redundancy. Someone is always ‘shocked and surprised.’ And oh gawd the gushing. Everything is always just so EXTRA.

I’m convinced some of the writers just copy and paste from other articles and swap out the celebrity names.

  50. FW says:

“Tom’s family sees him as a big celebrity, but Taylor is clearly on another level.”

OMG! Isn’t his family supposed to see him as,,, family member? or i’m reading something wrong since English is not my native language…

  51. eileen says:

Someone hand me the barf bag-I’m gonna need it for awhile with these two clowns

    • Nedsdag says:

I have more respect for Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes than I do for these two asses.

  52. Londongal says:

PLEASE tell me you’ve all seen this? It is MAJESTIC. I never thought I’d ever say that about the Fail either, the world has gone insane!

    • Maria says:

was about to post that 🙂

even the DM is mocking him. they usually run with every obvious Pr pairing. ouch!

    • Daily mail, original as always. Reminded me of Daily Mash’s dear holly. LOL

    • Nicole says:

Daily Fail has been ON FIRE with their coverage of this circus. and I loathe all things DF

    • Sixer says:

I’ll say what I said on the fag-end of yesterday’s post about this article:

While there are some funny jokes in that article, I don’t like it. Underlying it all is the usual Moir misogyny of a Unicorn Prince trapped in the web of an evil Black Widow. Tom’s pretend letter to an agony aunt/advice column about his new girlfriend controlling his life? My backside.

Both these twits are, on the surface, Professional Purveyors of the Precious. Both underneath, are committed self-promoters for ambition and profit.

This is fine. It’s what the entertainment business and gossip industry lives off. Some of us can enjoy buying into it and some of us can enjoy taking the proverbial out of it. But let’s not pretend LEGS has been trapped by Swifty. Or the other way around either. Especially if you’re encouraging misogynistic attitudes when you’re doing it.

      Bog off, Jan Moir.

      • Leo says:

I agree. I may find Taylor annoying and an example of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but, please, don’t turn a grown man with a history of fame-whorish tendencies into a victim of a publicity stunt. Plus, I can’t read anything Moir writes without thinking about the hurtful and truly heart-wrenching bile she usually spews, like in Stephen Gately’s case.

      • popup says:

Agreed. I’m enjoying this story for the laughs and I personally like both Taylor and Tom. Once it starts getting mean, sexist and demeaning for either party, which I suppose is inevitable to some extent, it just becomes distasteful to participate in the gossip.

      • LondonGal says:

Oh I despise Jan troll face. But I read this as totally sarcastic and intimating he’s a fame whore buying into the circus and as bad as her, as shown in the captions.

      • Bonzo says:

I agree. Tom is well aware of what he’s doing — both the cost and potential upsides to a high profile pairing — he hasn’t been tricked or trapped. He’ll go along until it doesn’t fit into his agenda anymore.

Same with her. They’re both opportunists who love the spotlight.

      • Cricket says:

totally agree Sixer, this is Tandem Tiddles

    • ohdear says:

And yet, Jude Law is doing the very same thing…..
In Rome, hand holding, gazing at each other lovingly over clasped hands at a dinner table.

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3665840/Jude-Law-43-t-eyes-gorgeous-girlfriend-Phillipa-Coan-30-soak-romance-Rome.html

      • Dara says:

How long have they been dating?

      • ohdear says:

        @Dara, true…
Do you think the dialogue would be different if they had been dating the same length of time?
There is a bigger age difference with Law and his girlfriend.
This is the first line “They’ve been inseparable since they started dating earlier this year”, and then the article goes on to discuss how romantic it is.
I’m not invested in a pro or anti Twiddles stance personally, but I do find the choice of words interesting.

    • HC says:

“We had one dance together at a ball — one! — and then she dumped the poor bloke she had been dating for 15 months. Over the telephone, if you please. Before you could say ‘joint Louis Vuitton ad campaign’, we were ‘in a lovely relationship’, but there are moments when it feels more like ‘a lovely abduction’.”

      From the DM article. 😂😂😂😂

  53. Crumpet says:

I’m pretty sure she is adjusting her sunglasses, not hiding her face. That’s all I got.

  54. Rocío says:

To be honest I LOVE this couple gossip wise. I side eye the age difference but both are grown ups so no real harm. Being said that, lets face it. I’m 90% sure (I always leave room for doubt) they are faking it but this doesn’t mean that they aren’t banging even though she strikes me as gay. Maybe bi? How knows and really who cares? It’s the 21th century people should fuck whomever they want (while legal and consented) . Bearding couples are pointless and laughable.

He wanted to be a World wide famous actor and now he is but for the wrong reasons: Taylor Swift Boy Toy. A sex tape would have been better hahaha

  55. Cure says:

I wonder if she’ll start speaking in an English accent like madonna? Lol

    • Crumpet says:

Why do people pick that to make fun of? You have obviously never spent time in a country or place with a significantly different English accent. If you had, you would know you pick it up without being able to do a damn thing about it.

  56. Noname says:

I’m laughing harder at the comments than Tiddles! I know want them to get married and have babies to see everyone on these gossip sites explode.

    Seriously folks, get a grip.

  57. malina says:

Idris Elba for the next Bond, and then Constance Zimmer! (shoutout to unreal fans!)

  58. jenny says:

These two are white privilege personified.

  59. Elle says:

He looks as into it as she does.

  60. Joanie says:

He’s in his thirties? I thought he was in his forties……mid to late forties

    • Bebe says:

He’s anything from 35 to 55 depending on who you ask 😂

Seriously tho he looks like a mid aged banker to me. I sure would find someone hotter for kept boy if I had Taylor’s $$$$

  61. Leo says:

I came across this photo, T&T strolling in Rome, completely alone and unbothered. No paps suddenly sneaking up on them, no bodyguards in sight to protect them in case someone with a camera is lurking in the bushes. Now, I’m not saying Taylor doesn’t need BG in general, she does, but it’s just such a stark contrast. Tons of BG, security, SUV-s, helicopters and paps and then a few hours later nothing. A bit of darkness can’t make such a difference, surely. I think it just underlines so well how much of the whole furor is orchestrated.

    Here’s the pic: https://www.instagram.com/p/BHN1nnBDkOx/?taken-by=hiddleswifties

    • Westiesheepie says:

That’s already been proven to be not them. Original poster retracted.

      • Leo says:

Sorry, my mistake if that’s the case, I didn’t track the photo beyond what came across my TL.

    • Miss Melissa says:

      Nope.

Hiddleston never wears shorts (except to run) and Taylor is not that close in height to him.

  62. Westiesheepie says:

So her plane has been tracked. They have left Rome. Plane made a stop for couple hours at London Luton Airport and now is enroute over Atlantic back to USA. So we’ll know soon if she dropped him off in London and returning alone to USA for 4th of July weekend or if he is still with her. Either way I’m sure the saga and snark will continue.

    • K.C. says:

Ugh, I love the plane stalking. So fun. If Thor starts filming on the 4th, he might be heading over early to get settled. Wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t rejoin her in the States. It WILL surprise me if she doesn’t go to Australia after her 4th party, though.

    • browniecakes says:

I picture Taylor in tears and Tom giddy he gets to actually be alone for a few minutes.

      • Lilacflowers says:

He gets to stretch his fingers and relax his hands from the grip position they’ve maintained for the past two weeks.

    • koko says:

JMO, I would say it probably stopped to refuel. If Thor starts filming on 4th that doesn’t necessarily mean he is needed on set then. He may not be needed till later. Though I won’t be surprised at either scenario, he’s still with her and will attend party or he has been dropped off and is heading down under. I do expect her to join him at some point in Australia.

      • Westiesheepie says:

It doesn’t take several hrs to refuel. He was either dropped off or they waited for him to get his stuff and get back on the plane.

      • Browniecakes says:

I would say they stopped to get the Gorilla Glue off their hands.

    • justme says:

Wow they really can stalk her plane! I thought that was just something fangirls asserted. I actually found that site (it is really slow at work at this time of year.) Unbelievable!

    • M.A.F. says:

That is down right scary that fans can track a person’s plane. Scary.

      • Cricket says:

+1! creepy with all the security she has following her, I’m shocked this hasn’t been sealed up.

    • Erica_V says:

Fingers crossed for 4th of July here in RI!!!!! Toes crossed she asks my cousin to DJ again and I get to go….. NDA be damned I’d be live tweeting that shit.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I think it could be a PR ploy to help him land a role IN ANYTHING. He desperately wants a higher profile. I really do think this, and the money, are what he is angling for.

  63. Freddy Spaghetti says:

Well, they both seem committed to whatever it is they are doing. And if Taylor “trapped” Tom, he’s gotten Taylor to splash out a fortune on him. I don’t buy that this is a Taylor trap, unless it’s one Tom begged to be in.

    • Bebe says:

Don’t think she pointed a gun at him and forced him to get on that plane. It seems misogynistic when people say this.

  64. Ginger says:

Idk on paper these two seem perfect for each other. But eventually I think they’ll wear each other out in some eager puppy contest.

    • Boo says:

      I’m hoping this lasts.

Because 1. I don’t begrudge them happiness and if they’re happy in each other’s company, whether or not it’s love, that’s a good thing.
and 2. Who on earth ELSE could these two match with as a life partner? They are such a great team in many respects.

I can’t help it. I’d rather see these two happy than this thing blow up and fall apart.

      • K.C. says:

@Boo I 100% agree with you. I’m having trouble picturing them with other people now that they’re together—they are so very similar in so many ways. They have marriage written all over them. Just because of the strangeness of the situation—the way they met at the Gala, the quick turnaround after Calvin—it truly wouldn’t shock me if they recognized they’d met their match and just jumped in, critics be damned. Seems like her friends are all getting married—I think she was the maid of honor for one, and another one just got engaged, apparently—so I can see how she’d have marriage on the brain. She’s also on a break after a long tour—her downtime would be the opportune moment to make changes in her personal life. And if Tom wants to start a family, now would be the time. It wasn’t too long ago that Tom mentioned he was the last in his friend group (or maybe British actor group a la CB and ER) to still be single.

I really don’t want this to end. They seem like the perfect fit and all the pieces kinda fall into place. They make me happy, haha.

      • browniecakes says:

Ironically I think of them like Kim and Kanye – they cancel each other out.

      • justme says:

I kind of agree @K.C. — and it would cause a social media meltdown I suspect, which would be interesting to watch.

      • Westiesheepie says:

Totally agree with both of you @KC @Boo! I really hope they prove all those critics and cynics wrong. They both deserve happiness as do we all.

    • Tara says:

Ha! I have “no dog in this fight” and genuinely wish them the best with whatever they’re doing… But “eager puppy contest” definitely describes them… Individually and together. Even in the Night Manager, at his most smoldering sexiest, Tom seemed so bouncy. Like truly good fun for a game of fetch.

  65. anon123 says:

It is a curious experiment to examine one’s thoughts on seeing a man in a presumptive gold-digger situation. People don’t even think twice about making fun of him, myself included. But I think if we ever to achieve equality between men and women we shouldn’t laugh . One hopes that in the future it will not be unusual for a woman to have higher status than a man.

  66. Joanie says:

Of course he is…the Bond thirst is real.

  67. Cricket says:

Every day with the latest Tiddles stories, I laugh and think what her next album will be called.. today I’m thinking “scorched earth love song”

  68. Susan says:

I think Tom and his managers/advisers know far better than anyone writing or commenting on a gossip blog does about what might help his chances on getting the Bond role (although didn’t he already say he didn’t get it, so it’s moot?). And the fact is, despite his popularity with a younger female demographic on the Internet, the rest of the world was going “Who?” whenever his name was brought up as a contender for the role. Now this pairing with Taylor is getting him broad name recognition. Perhaps even the producers of Bond told him his low key fame was a problem for being lead on a major franchise and advised him to do something like this. I would not be so quick to assume that this is the wrong strategy for taking his career to the next level. I think his stans really overestimate the importance of him maintaining his “chill” to his career success. Look at Tom Cruise. He’s the least chill, most corny opportunistic guy out there and he is working nonstop on big project after big project.

    • Fanny says:

Nah. Daniel Craig was even less known than Hiddleston when he got the Bond role and he brought in billions for the franchise. Barbara Broccoli does not take pre-Bond fame into consideration; she knows it doesn’t matter.

Publicists do stupid things all the time. Perhaps you are right that they thought this relationship would introduce Tom to a larger audience, but they were hoping it would be Tom, the serious British thespian who is charming and intelligent, not the desperate famewhore buffoon he looks like now.

    • LadyLoo says:

It’s getting him ‘broad name recognition’ – not quite. He’s ‘TS’s boyfriend’ more often than he is ‘Tom Hiddleston’ – still, especially in US mags. Not to mention that ‘name recognition’ is coming at the expense of his traditional fanbase, standing within the journalistic community and all around dignity.

If his PR people really knew what they were doing, he wouldn’t need to do this as he’d already be a ‘known.’

  69. A.Key says:

Gotta admit I look forward to coming home from work and catching a 10min break while eating supper to find out even MOAR news on which part of the world/romcom Tiddles are living today with all of us!

Oh and his family seem even more thirsty than him, lord Jesus.

  70. spidey says:

Can’t remember if I posted it before but I would just love it if Tom went off to Oz to start filming, and Taylor flew (privately of course!), and nothing was seen of Twiddles ever again. Just a summer fling. There would be so much disappointment, and the withdrawal symptoms would need medical interventions. 🙂

    • browniecakes says:

Now those two Jude and Phillipa look like they are having fun.

      Good Lord.

I really had no idea about the investment people have in (either of) these two. I thought we were all more or less, at this stage of the travelling circus of love, ready to just sit back, laugh, enjoy and go with the show?

      I apparently was wrong.

Mother of all that is Holy this is out of control. Jesus, I’d rather be going for the Iron Throne.

  72. mini says:

Changes my whole opinion of him and not for the better. Night Mgr will look different. No longer James Bond material in my eyes. No mystery and cool factor anymore. I am sure Taylor has a lot of fans but they are not Bond age fans Sorry can not wrap my head around this couple.

  73. JulK says:

This has been hilarious to watch. I used to be here obsessing about Bora-Gate, this is far more entertaining as:

First, I’ve lost all respect for him and she is pretty meh in my book.
Second, most movies he did and he was banking on tanked so no awards, recognitions or invitations to “big shows”
Plus there are still benedict, Fassy, Eddie, and Co who are brilliant actors , More esta listed, A level celebrities, award nominees and classy who play the privacy game very well so no space for him…
Therefore Taylor becomes his ticket to instant, continuous spotlight and attention (even is he is coming across as her toy du hour) which man wouldn’t like to Taylor’s you? You have fun, you get your name in everyone mouth, you can use that to later sob about how you are a sensitive soul and it has an expiration date! seems to be that Tom is being “smart”.

His family involvement I think he told them this was crucial to his career and future opportunities so naturally they were happy to help. I don’t think this is about Bond, this is about bankability as an actor and the opportunity to get the “hot” roles in Hollywood. It would be interesting to see what he does work wise after this, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if he now decided to do a reality show for E!

It’s funny that his wardrobe is changing as well. E! Was giving him grief about wearing the same thing all the time… It seems that he is paying attention to the media. Maybe that is why they only had 45min to see the colosseum?

I wonder if the EO thing was a similar thing only failed…

    • Meee4 says:

Your last sentence about EO makes one wonder if he thought she with her connections(her sisters) would have made a bigger splash. It had an impact, just like this years spring press tour, but failed to hit it home. Now that I look back at last years’ date night(even though I still think her reaction was over the top) I see how calm he was, just looking at his phone, hand in pocket and wonder hmmm. I just think how could he really have been that calm with all of that circus going on(especially if it was believed to be unexpected). We were commending him for being cool, but really he maybe just played it.

      • Dara says:

Back when it happened, I thought his non-reaction was just his usual paparazzi face – he’s been pretty good at not reacting when confronted by them – but I’m starting to re-evaluate my assumptions about that whole situation.

Now I’m leaning toward Tom wanting to go public and Lizzie having none of it. If she had playing along, I think it would have created some good headlines for them both, and the movie. Or maybe they really were just friends this whole time, and neither wanted to pretend something was happening when it wasn’t. Either way, it’s old news now.

      • K.C. says:

@Meee4 – That thought, admittedly, has crossed my mind. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, because that’s a fairly sinister theory (bombarding a girl you’re using for press with unexpected paparazzi is beyond dirty). To be fair, he always plays it straight in front of photographers–kind of a blank expression until he gets away from them, and that moment was no different. I imagine he was just focused in that instance on getting them a cab and getting out. I’d expect someone like him to play it cool in front of the paps, not hide or freak out.

  74. browniecakes says:

Since this circus carnival ride seems to have come to a stop (for the time being), what is the $$$ tally for each of them. (I assume the body guards expense their meals etc. and Tay pays their expenses and salary.) Did Tom pay for anything?

  75. Lilacflowers says:

In other news, he is on the list of invites for new AMPAS members, along with Idris. To receive an invite, someone has to be recommended by at least two Academy members and meet other criteria. The selection process takes months of review so, no, Tiddles or Hiddleswift or whatever would have had no bearing on it. But BFI ambassador would

    • M.A.F. says:

Interesting. Normally, a sure fire way to get one is an nomination for which he has none. But thinking about it, with #Oscarsowhite two years in a row, the Academy did say they were looking to changing it up, adding new members faster..

      • lilacflowers says:

Yes, a nomination is pretty much a guaranteed invite, which is how Cumberbatch and Redmayne got invites last year and Brie Larson and Alicia Viklander got them this year. They have expanded the number of invites this year in an attempt to address the OscarsSoWhite and Oscars so male problems and the list has some interesting choices on it, including Greta Gerwig, Tessa Thompson, Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, Andrew Garfield, Idris, Chadwick Boseman, John Boyega, Rose Byrne, Carmen Ejogo, Oscar Isaac, Emma Watson. Nominees do have to be well-connected with multiple member criteria and Tom has worked with quite a few AMPAS members (Cumberbatch, Redmayne, Hopkins, Portman, Redgrave, Finney, Tucci, Jackson, Dench, Goodman, Reilly etc) with several who are strong supporters (Branagh, Irons, Walters, Chastain). So an invite isn’t a huge surprise but I still figured it would be a few years coming, especially when I see people like Luis Guzman, Betty Buckley, Mark Rylance, Carla Cugino, and Patti Lupone on this new list too.

      • Mira says:

Mark Rylance won an oscar so he is an automatic member.

      • lilacflowers says:

Yes, Mira, my point is that he wasn’t made one before, despite a career spanning several decades. Meanwhile, Dakota Johnson scored an invite.

      • M.A.F. says:

I scroll through the list was well. Happy to see Oscar Isaac, Chadwick Bosman and John Boyega among others on there (these three stood out to me) but was blown away as to why Dakota Johnson was given an invite (someone must haave really loved 50 Shades of Crap). But the fact that Patti Lupone was just now given one pretty says it all. I went through the directors list as well. Quite a few females on there.

      • lilacflowers says:

@MAF, Dakota’s mommy is an AMPAS member. Not sure about grandma, daddy or ex-step-daddy but mommy is. Never discount nepotism.

A lot of Marvel actors on the Invite list.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Lilacflowers- I would be hella surprised if her grandmother isn’t a member. I definitely noticed the Marvel connection. They need younger members.

      • Mira says:

        @Lilacflowers @M.A.F
Well the whole point is that they are diversifying the membership after #Oscarssowhite. They invited 60 women directors for instance, the focus was especially on women and ethnic minorities.
Dakota Johnson probably got an invite the same way Hiddleston did, she is well connected after all also Dakota has been in some movies thats been nominated i think. And being young and a woman she fits the bill, she is more what they are looking for then for instance Hiddleston. The membership is mainly made up of white ( old) males) they are trying to readdress that balance. If you forget about Johnson for a minute, you might be pleased to see that they have invited many black actors some of whom have been working for decades, and probably deserved an invite a long time ago.

      • lilacflowers says:

@Mira, I don’t understand the point of the lecture here. If you look above, I named several of those black actors. I also did express suppress at Tom’s inclusion especially in light of the fact that well-established talents like Rylance, Buckley, Guzman, and Lupone never got an invite before (yes, I know Rylance’s is due to his nomination/win but he’s pushing 60 and has an acclaimed career) but pointed out that the BFI connection as well as the support he receives from several other AMPAS members may have been a contribution factor. I can also think of dozens of other actresses I would put before Dakota Johnson, whose only Oscar nominated film was Social Network and her part was tiny. But again, Tippie and Melanie and Don and Antonio, oh my!

      • Mira says:

Have i lectured you? I don’t think i did and i am sorry if you are interpreting it that way.
I am merely pointing out that the main aim was to include women and minorities, as well as lower the age demographics. And Dakota fits into at least two of those groups. Did she deserve it based on her work, probably not but its like you said its to do with connections which i think is the case with Hiddleston too.
Rylance has mainly worked in the theatre, ( a choice) i don’t think he is the most overlooked here ,in my humble opinion a lot of those older black actors who’s been working steadily in movies for decades are way more due. Rylance is also an old white guy so hes not really what this list set out to be about. Although hes probably one of the best actors in the english speaking world right now and rightly should be a member.

      Unworthy.

  76. Beach girl says:

So this is a test. I’ve been trying to post an article from eonline to this site and it’s not posting. Good article too. Maybe it’s just the link.

    • spidey says:

Reading the multitude of posts on the multitude of threads the thought “too much imagination, too much time, too little to do” flitted across my mind. I have an excuse – I’m retired. 🙂

      • Annetommy says:

Me too. That’s my explanation and I’m sticking to it…I am enjoying reading the posts, but I swear if I see the words “thirsty” or “famewhore” again I’m going to boak.

      • Browniecakes says:

We’ve got less ‘pregnant’ and’cheated’ -praise the maker!

      • spidey says:

@ Annetommy – I have just learned a new word “boak”. Thanks. 🙂

    • bonzo says:

Beach Girl, are you referring to this one?

      http://www.eonline.com/news/776646/who-is-taylor-swift-why-her-new-romance-with-tom-hiddleston-has-me-questioning-love

The interesting quote for me was from the “HW power player” who argued against so much private life publicity saying that “the more we cover certain celebrities’ private lives, the more we are unable to suspend disbelief when it comes to their professional life.”

Didn’t Tom say something to this effect — that the less we know about him the more effective he is as an actor” — something like that?

      • Beach girl says:

Yes thank you!! It’s an interesting argument against the all pr is good pr mantra.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

“But the bigwig argued just the opposite, claiming the more we cover certain celebrities’ private lives, the more we are unable to suspend disbelief when it comes to their professional life.

In this case, the power player is right. I no longer see Tom as the thespian-with-a-double-first- from-Cambridge-University; instead I feel like I’m watching a soufflé collapse.”

        Yup.

  77. When I get annoyed with this romance, I focus on Taylor’s hottie, bearded, bodyguards. They look like retired special forces guys.

  78. Tara says:

Is the word “thirsty” retired yet? I swear it has worked double shifts for all of 2015 and 2016 ( thus far ). Hopefully it at least gets paid time and a half.

  79. lucy says:

Was hoping you would post the photo of him boredly looking at his phone while dining with TS.

  80. Beach girl says:

Another eonline article regarding the cost of this trip (they’re on a roll). Their total was $115,000. Didn’t include the body guards salaries or housing and feeding them. Sorry still can’t post links!

      • lilacflowers says:

That total is based on rental of the jets, which they didn’t have to do. Still had to fuel the jets and pay for staff to travel but a huge portion of that estimate was jet rental.

Of course, flying commercial would have reduced the cost even more, as would have taking the Acela from NYC to Westerly, RI, which, depending on time of day, would have maxed out around $120. But she seems to like her jets and her crew.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

        Not impressed. Carbon footprint.

      • Dara says:

Well, they did save costs by bunking with Mom for part of the trip, so there is that. But since Frisky and Tabby were probably down the road at a local hotel maybe it cancels out in the end.

It’s all of the hidden costs for the support staff that E! didn’t mention that really add up, but I suppose that would have destroyed the image of a couple in love on a spur-of-the-moment jaunt.

      • fiddlefaddle says:

That estimate seems realistic for her own jet, even a bit conservative considering how much flying they did. Rental would have cost more than that.

Flying your own private jet is terribly, terribly expensive. Even the fuel for a transatlantic flight is tens of thousands.

      • Westiesheepie says:

Also the cost of the Rome hotel is wrong. According to People, their suite cost $20,000/night!

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Then you have all the publicists to account for. Let’s not forget that. They were working overtime.

It’s not the money though that really appalled me, though they are operating at MarieAnyoinette levels. It’s the wastefulness of using a private jet and the appalling impact on the environment. Ugh.

      • Becky says:

Miss J, that bothered me too. I hope Ruffalo has a word with him about that.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I am really disgusted. Climate change is a real thing, and everything they have wasted in using a PRIVATE JET to go wherever their impulse takes them is just puerile.

      Mark Ruffalo he ain’t.

  81. Beach girl says:

A RADA student just tweeted that Tom was at a costume exhibition there. Looks like he’s home. Alone??

    • Bonzo says:

That would be my assumption. I’d like to think he’s clearing his head now that he’s taking a break from the “We’re Really, Really in Love Tour” and rethinking his part of it.

But he probably just had other obligations to go back home to.

I bet we’ll see him at Wimbledon before he leaves for Oz. When does Murray or Federer play next?

    • spidey says:

I did post up an idea of how you could put your links in, which works for me, but it “disappeared”

  82. THEPELICAN says:

Is Wimbledon still going on? If he stayed in London, maybe he’ll get to go after all.

But if Tay Tay’s not with him, I wonder how much pap attention he’ll get?

  83. Browniecakes says:

Here’s a theory: Taylor’s BFF Allison just got engaged or martied right. Tom’s little sistet is married. Comes a time when you realize more of your friends or peers are attached than single.

  84. EM says:

Which one of the two calls the paps to arrive for the ‘candid’ photos?

  85. Blip says:

    Never stop Tiddlesposting

  86. Jules says:

Naw, they’re cool. I met my now-husband’s parents after 3 weeks or less of dating. And I didn’t know we would be married at the time. As for Wendy Williams’ opinion, why can’t she “wear her heart on her sleeve”? Who makes these weird dating restrictions? Also, I think she’s just adjusting her sunglasses not hiding her face.
