Chris Pine: ‘I’m usually barefoot & not wearing anything at my house anyway’

Chris Pine has two films out this summer, Star Trek Beyond (out this month) and Hell or High Water (out in August). So we’re probably going to be seeing more of him in the coming month or so. And that might be a problem for me! I like Chris Pine, I find him attractive and sexy and I think he’s an underrated actor. But in interviews, I’m just reminded of the fact that he often seems like just another frat-boy bro. Let’s see how this plays out! Pine has a new interview with the Sunday Telegraph (the Aussie publication) and there were some interesting quotes in here. I think he’s trying out a new “Brad Pitt Lite” personality? Some highlights:

Whether he was wild in his 20s: “No, I was probably the exact opposite! My delayed pubescence is coming up. I don’t feel bad at all.”

His true passion: “I love design. I’m really into interior design and architecture and furniture. If I had any patience whatsoever for furniture making, I’d probably get into that. But I don’t. I do love creating spaces, though. Having bought a home five or six years ago now, and working on it constantly, there is a great joy for me in working on a canvas that big; its sole effect being to look good and make you feel good.

Coming from a family of actors: “My work ethic was instilled in me by my parents, for sure. They wanted good grades [from me] and I was generally an obedient kid. They were lucky in that regard. But also, by process of osmosis, by being in a family of actors who would come home and talk about their day’s work, and then witnessing the ebbs and flows of the business that is by nature fickle; I learnt a lot about the rosy times, the dead rosy times, the good times, the bad times, the flush times, the bankrupt times. What my dad did to put food on the table and put me through school was not romantic. So I didn’t have a romantic vision of acting growing up at all. In fact, I never wanted to do it – and only found it later on.

Whether he’s a workaholic: “I’m really good at taking breaks! I’m probably much better at taking breaks than I am at doing anything else, although some sort of fire has recently been lit. But “workaholic” suggests you work to avoid something else, and that is not how I view it. I work to get more involved in learning about myself, about how I work with others, and about my relationships. What I do for a living, thankfully, is some sort of giant catharsis. And it allows you, if done insightfully, to be more present in daily life.”

Whether he thinks about becoming a parent: “Yeah, sure, I guess at some point. I’m really happy to be working right now and I get a lot of support and love from my family and friends. So I’m good for now.”

His personal style: “I almost have a very visual OCD. Just like I love interior design, I love clothes and really get into the structure and the craftsmanship of them. In California, fashion tends to be very casual – probably because everybody is stuck in their cars and no one cares. It’d be nice if people spent some time trying to look good. I do the same thing, though – put on some jeans, Havaianas and a T-shirt, and I’m done. I do like to get back to the 1950s basics of a good T-shirt and jeans. I’m usually barefoot and not wearing anything at my house anyway…

[From The Daily Telegraph]

His quotes about starting a family remind me that single men are getting those questions too, just like single women. But a single woman at 35 would probably get some follow-up questions about her seeming ambivalence about starting a family, where Pine just gets to say “nah, I’m not feeling it right now” and that’s the end. Also: I bet he does walk around his house naked. I can never do that, even though I live alone! The best I can do is walk around in underwear and a t-shirt.

    He keeps getting better looking.

    • V4Real says:

Hell yeah, I got it bad for him.

And most likely a woman of 35 would receive a follow up about seeming ambivalence is because like it or not we have a biological clock that will tick tock out. A man can produce a baby well into his 70’s or older if he likes.

  2. KiddVicious says:

    *Googles Chris Pine’s address*

    • Tiffany says:

      SHOTGUN!!!

    • RedOnTheHead says:

You better share that address!! From things I’ve read here and there, he’s got plenty to share.

    • Snowflake says:

No! Me first! No wait, we can all meet there, I will bring the snacks!

    • V4Real says:

I’m on my way to buy one of those cheesy maps to the stars that they sell on Hollywood Boulevard.

    • melodycalder says:

He owns jason lee’s old house, if you Google that. … the address is there. … hiding my head in shame right now

  3. The Original Mia says:

And you live where, Chris? Inquiring minds want to know.

I love him. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he seems so laid back.

  4. HH says:

I don’t understand the point of living alone and not walking around naked. That’s actually what’s worth the higher rent. That and piece of mind. What else are you paying for?

    • Locke Lamora says:

I feel unhygenic if I’m walking around naked. Which is irrational considering my flat is spotless. but it’s just the feeling I have.

      • V4Real says:

This reminds me of the episode of Sex and the City when Charlotte’s husband walked around naked all day at home and she hated it.

  5. Mia4s says:

That Hell or High Water movie got some very strong reviews out of Cannes, I’m intrigued.

On a different note I’m also intrigued about where he lives…exactly. 😉

  6. Locke Lamora says:

Where I’m from men get just as much flack for not being married after 35. I have a neighbour who is 40 and not married and everyone feels sorry for him, even though he seems perfectly happy. The poor guy has to endure all the old ladies in our neighbourhood trying to match him with a woman.

I don’t find Chirs attractive at all. He’s very pretty, but not hot.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Here it’s the same. My friend’s 40-year old cousin is single and lives in a small village. His neighbors (mostly old ladies) have been so worried about him that after years of just gossiping about him, they took it as their job to set him up. Unfortunately the only unmaried woman in the village happens to be way over 60, has no upper front teeth and seems to be a little slow, but she’s available so that matters in their minds. The poor guy has to hide from them, because they really believe that he would be happier with that woman than alone.

  7. Betti says:

Have always liked him and he is getting hotter with age – he suits the salt and pepper thing he’s got going on. And yes he is an under-rated actor, you see glimpses of talent and he kills it as Kirk.

    • tracking says:

I agree, he’s the pretty type that will age into something more interesting.

  8. Izzy says:

For some reason, the more I hear from him in interviews, the more I like him. He seems… not empty-headed, and like he has some diverse interests and hobbies. And just kinda chill.

    • V4Real says:

I liked that he was sort of a slow bloomer, shy and reserved as a kid/teen/young adult. He suffered from bad acne which made him a bit insecure. He’s also a very intelligent young man who graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.

But I don’t see him coming off as a frat boy as the article suggest.

…” I’m usually barefoot and not wearing anything at my house anyway…”
    I myself wear thongs though.

  10. Emma - The JP Lover says:

Deus … Chris Pine SO does it for me. (Blush)

  11. Fire Rabbit says:

He’s very fine indeed. I think he’s intelligent and probably my favorite of the Chris’s. He’s always reminded me of Clooney, especially on the ixnay on the family front. His answer made me laugh. So, that would be a “no”?

  12. anna13 says:

    HONK.

He is my fav Chris, too.

  13. Elle says:

Wanting kids can also mean adoption. As a first choice.

I love that he’s showing his gray. I think that’s the true mark of body confidence for people over 35.

  14. OriginallyBlue says:

Chris Pine is the best Chris.

  15. Penelope says:

Drop-dead gorgeous, thoughtful, and smart. Wow.

I also had quite a crush on Daddy Pine back in the day. 🙂

    • Tiffany says:

I recently watched an episode of CHiPS, and yep, Chris is his father’s son. Robert was looking hubba, hubba.

  16. browniecakes says:

I want to change out my Hiddles crush for a Pine crush. But, something about Chris is not compelling. I saw him on Jimmy Ritalin Fallon’s show a couple years back and he was just BORING. I want to go there. I think 26 comments says it – he just isn’t grabbing our attention for some reason.

  17. lol says:

he’s real handsome and he doesn’t come off as a frat boy to me at all. he usually comes off as a gigantic english nerd (wasn’t he an english major in college or something?) trying to outdo zachary quinto in vocab contests
