Casey Anthony is ‘bored’ & friendless five years after the not-guilty verdict

While I love a good police procedural, you guys know I’m not a true-crime person, right? I rarely pay attention to the big criminal case of the moment. But I did pay attention to the Casey Anthony trial, where Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee. The not-guilty verdict was five years ago this month. And to note the anniversary, People Magazine published this oddly interesting “where are they now” story. I’ll be damned if I didn’t click on it right away. Five years after Casey walked free, she now lives on a fixed income and she’s pretty bored with everything.

It was five years ago this month that Casey Anthony walked out the doors of Florida’s Orange County jail a free woman. What is life like now for Anthony, who recently celebrated her 30th birthday? According to several sources, the woman once described by a Department of Corrections spokeswoman as “one of the most hated women in America” is bored.

PEOPLE’s sources claim Casey Anthony still resides in South Florida and receives financial support from some members of her legal team. Earlier this year, Anthony launched her own photography business, Case Photography. But she “has done very few projects,” says one source.

Anthony has resumed dating, but sources claim she has only gone on a few dates since the acquittal and that those evenings have been spent almost exclusively with men she met “through her very small legal circle,” a source says. Sources say that Anthony’s everyday existence, away from the glare of the media spotlight, is monotonous.

There’s “not much is going on in her life,” says a source close to her. “She gets up each day, hangs around, checks the internet, takes some pictures, and doesn’t do much. She can’t hold a real job, and she doesn’t really make a lot of friends, for obvious reasons. When people find out about her history, they usually bail on her. She’s 30, with very few friends her age.”

Sources accuse Anthony of staging paparazzi-style photo ops when she’s low on cash. She allegedly tries to sell these photos to various media outlets.

“She’s got enough money to live, but not enough to really do anything,” says the source. “She sort of lives like an old person, on a fixed income without much going on in her life. She’s bored, and she complains about boredom all the time.”

According to three different sources, Casey Anthony no longer regularly speaks with her parents, George and Cindy Anthony.

“They don’t really talk,” a source tells PEOPLE. Adds a different source, “She has spoken with her mother a few times, but she doesn’t talk to her dad at all.”

Things have been difficult for Casey’s parents, too. While they collected $600,000 for appearing on Dr. Phil in 2011, they are now out of money once again. Sources say they staved off foreclosure on their home but that neither of them is employed, sources say. Meanwhile, Anthony’s brother, Lee, is said to have a strained relationship with his sister. Sources say this is due, in part, to Casey’s accusation at trial that he molested her. Lee married his longtime girlfriend, cancer survivor Mallory Parker, in 2012, but Casey did not attend the ceremony, say sources. The couple’s since had a baby boy, Parker Lee Anthony.

[From People]

The money part is fascinating to me, as is the fact that Casey decided to stay in Florida. Like, why stay in Florida? If you’re not speaking to your parents or your brother and you don’t have any friends, why stick around? Maybe her reasoning is that she doesn’t have the money to move, but if she can find the money to live on, surely she can find the money to move to a place where she could have more of a clean slate. As for the money… why would her lawyers give her money and support her in any way? Let her support herself… through pap strolls and whatever else she can get. Surely someone has offered to pay her for some interviews too? And how in the world did her parents blow through $600,000? So many questions.

Well all she did was trade one type of prison for another. Only this one she built herself.

Not sure she should have expected any other outcome.

    • HH says:

      Exactly. ZERO sympathy.

Also, I’m not a professional photographer, but I’d be pissed that it all of sudden seems to be everybody’s side business. Especially now that everybody seems to be using computer programs to make up for any gap in talent. The one thing that makes a photographer is having the eye/vision for a shot. Angles, lighting, etc… and computer programs don’t account for that from what I’ve seen. Also, the vast majority of the time the scenery is doing all the work, but people like to pat themselves on the back. A beautiful skyline will always look beautiful. OK. Rant over. 🙂

      • Psu Doh Nihm says:

Funny you say that. I AM a professional photographer and have been for 8 years and it DOES effing suck.

We, in the business, like to call them MWAC. Aka Mom’s with a camera business. It’s always someone who gets a nice camera for Christmas and gets lucky with a few shots and decides “oh, I’ll be a photographer!” So they set up a website or Facebook page and starts charging people rediculously low prices and basically uses the “spray and pray” method of shooting. They take as many shots as they can on auto and hope a few are good enough to build a portfolio. It tricks paying clients into thinking the photographer is more skilled than they really are. Then in turn it drives down the real photographers prices by saturating the market with substandard work veiled as professional work at cutthroat prices.

My profession used to be taken seriously and respected. Now? Well… You catch my drift.

The first thing I thought of when I read this article is “who in the world would pay her to shoot them?” Then I thought; the only reasonable client base I could see would be food editorials or product shots. She could feasibly do that with some studio equipment, some education and a lot of practice.

      • Fiorella says:

I disagree. Though you may know more than me, I find that yes many more are trying to be photogs but you can’t fix the things you mentioned with a computer so people that don’t have the natural talent and or work really hard won’t be able to get by just with photoshop. I was looking on Craigslist and many people have invested in wesbistes (plus of course the training, time and equipments) but probably won’t make it big because based on their portfolios they wouldn’t be a first choice, people wouldn’t pay much, etc, though I do live in a big city. Maybe some amateurs take advantage of big fish small pond situations ?

      • Psu Doh Nihm says:

Fiorella there tends to be a phenomenon of new “photogs” entering and leaving the business every few months, they then burn out after a short time or become disinterested or have a moment of clarity that they can’t charge what they charge on a long term basis and actually turn a profit, OR, When they try to increase their prices they learn they don’t have the skills to back it up so they quit but not before unfairly skewing the publics perception about what a “professional” costs. Rarely do they put the time into the trade to actually learn the skills….. It’s very backwards.

I went to college with a major in mass com and a minor in arts, film photography specifically. This was many many years ago, well before the digital age. Then I basically interned for 3 years FOR FREE under a very experienced professional. Once I had all the skills, experience, equipment necessarily and had a portfolio build, THEN, I started my business. And I charged the prices needed to sustain my business and pay myself full time. I DID NOT learn on the job as some of these “professionals” tend to do. I think that is basically cheating your client when you do that.

On another note about skill level. When I take pics, whether in my studio or on location, I generally only take a handful of shots. But unless someone is blinking, every single shot, is perfect straight out of the camera because I make sure of it when composing the shot and measuring the light and making compensations for it. Only reason I would pull something into Photoshop is to clean up an image. Pimples, a random bug flying, and maybe to soften the skin more of a self conscious new mom or whoever seems to give me vibe like they might overly critique themselves.

      • HH says:

@Fiorella – I think we’re agreeing here. To my eye, I can tell when someone is compensating with computer editing. I can tell when angle or lighting could be better, among other things. I meant that people assume editing can make their shots better when it will only fix so much. And thus, their business fizzles out after a while like you said.

      • Denise says:

That’s true of photography. Software is only for perfecting photos that are great to begin with. As for scenery, there are amazing creative landscape photographers and the difference between their work and someone standing in front of postcard scenery and hitting the button is a universe apart. Any photographer without real talent and a head for business will fail. And it helps if you’re not known as a child killer.

I had forgotten how she looks like an absolute psychopath.

  2. Senaber says:

Know what’s not boring? Raising your sweet child. This bitch.

    • Zooyork says:

This, exactly. She wouldn’t be bored if her baby was still alive.

    • it's like you know says:

She doesn’t even seem to care that her kid is dead. I have a 2 y/o daughter, and a lifetime wouldn’t be long enough to get over it if something happened to her, let alone 5 years.

I hope Casey Anthony is shunned and reviled for the rest of her shitty, miserable life. She deserves nothing less.

  3. Lama Bean says:

There’s something wrong in Florida. She and George Zimmerman are serious pieces of work.

    • isabelle says:

there are ‘bad’ people everywhere but seems if you want to get away with murder you may want a jury out of Florida.

    • Wren says:

I have a friend who’s lived down there their whole life and they don’t exactly disagree…… Florida is a magnet for crazy somehow.

      • Mel M says:

Totally agree. My husband and I always talk about the crazy stuff that goes on down there. My high school friend moved there after college and lived there for 6 years and she said she’s never met so many weirdos. She came back to our homestate after she found out her fiancé was cheating on her with two other women.

      • RJ says:

As my sister says “all the nuts roll south”. Florida is truly the a**hole of America

    • shannon says:

If I’m not mistaken, Florida is also the kidnapping capital of the US. Not to mention their foster system is broken.

      • it's like you know says:

I live in Florida. It is the worst place imaginable. A sun bleached hell full of truly crazy people with tons of drugs, crime and alligators.

      • Shelley says:

I agree the foster care system is messed up. Tragically so. Not sure about the kidnapping thing.

People seem to come to Florida to start over, believing things will change for them, but of course nothing changes.

    • kanyekardashian says:

      That’s Flori-DUH.

  4. annaloo. says:

    Monster.

I hope that every remaining moment she has left on this earth is hell.

  5. Sam says:

Well, it’s kind of hard to feel bad for her. Even if you think she didn’t murder her child, she hid a body, accused an innocent woman, etc. She’s still pretty bad.

My guess as to why she stays in Florida is because she is probably financially dependent upon somebody. She can’t work, so she’s in kind of a precarious position money-wise. Moving would probably be too large of an expense for her. And her image has been plastered everywhere – I doubt anybody would hire her.

Weird aside: Every time I see her, I think of Nancy Grace. I was on maternity leave while this case was going on, and I just remember watching Nancy Grace at night and watching her basically lose her mind over this case. That’s my big memory of it.

    • coffee_clutches says:

I was on maternity leave too! Prior to my son’s birth, I had not been tracking the case at all. My family lives in Florida and got me obsessed with it. I watched it hour after hour while the baby slept. I still cant believe the verdict.

      • Ankhel says:

If you want to get away with a crime, be a celebrity or a reasonably good looking, young woman. Juries are allergic to convicting them.

There was a young couple on trial for murder were I lived some years ago. They set fire to a house with a man inside. The two men had fought earlier. The woman had gone along to buy petrol. She watched as her boyfriend set fire to the house, and as it burned down. Then she went home like normal. The pretty lady admitted everything, while she had her pretty baby in court with her. Aquitted. “Duress”. The attorney didn’t even have proof of serious prior abuse in the woman’s relationship. The boyfriend was convicted, naturally…

  6. Samtha says:

    Boohoo.

She’s bored? At least she’s alive.

  7. BooBooLaRue says:

    crazy eyes

  8. Jayna says:

She is living with a 67-year-old man that was once one of the private investigators in her case, and he was once on the OJ Simpson case. He set her business up, and his home address is the business address of her new business. She was out doing a yard sale at his house. Casey is not the type to be on her own without a man. This man is her sugar daddy.

    • KB says:

Is he married/have children? Maybe she’s in the will.

I can’t believe she hasn’t changed her name and look. I mean yeah, it’d be reported, but it’d be a lot easier to find some corner of the country that wasn’t aware. She needs to move to a larger city like Atlanta. It’s big, cheap, and I’m sure she’d be able to hop from receptionist job to receptionist job as needed when people realized who she was. Or work for some poor lonely sap like the guy she’s living with now, there are plenty of those all over.

I think she likes being infamous. She’s sick and twisted enough, I don’t think she cares why she’s famous, just likes that she is.

      • Zaza says:

Atlanta is not a cheap place to live and definitely more expensive than FL. I wish Atlanta was more affordable.

      • kanyekardashian says:

From what I understand of the case, she isn’t legally allowed to leave Flori-DUH. Can’t recall why.

  9. lisa2 says:

Her child is dead.. I don’t give a sh*t that she is bored and friendless.

She will never suffer enough for the lose of that child’s life

  10. Melly says:

    Aw poor child murderer

  11. Nancy says:

No words other than rot in Hell “Tot Mom.”

    • Fiorella says:

I agree of course! But also gotta say ” totmom “is perfect classic Nancy grace

      • Nancy says:

I remember this trial so well. Hard to believe it’s been five years. Nancy G may be annoying as hell but she detested this woman like no other. People all over the media began referring to the murderer as tot mom. She doesn’t deserve the title of mom. She killed her little girl, dumped her in the trunk of her car and tossed her away like garbage. She sickens me.

  12. Qjoi says:

She has an aunt that lives near my hometown in Ohio (her husband owns a car dealership) and I remember rumors after the trial that she was “spotted” down here, though I highly doubt it. I’m very suprised that she stayed in Florida too. I’m wondering if it has to do with finances since her legal team is pretty much supporting her. My guess is that she would not be able to sustain anywhere else.

  13. Belle Epoch says:

Yeah, it’s pretty boring underground, too.

  14. Dani says:

Cry me a river. You know who wouldn’t have been bored on this beautiful sunny summer day? Her daughter. I hope Casey rots in her misery. This C U Next Tuesday.

  15. Singtress says:

Poor sad her. Her her her.

Maybe if her child was alive she’d have some purpose.

    • Mimi says:

This makes me so happy. I always thought that the best punishment she could ever receive was a life as a recluse. It’s clear she was very social and loved to be seen in the clubs partying all night even when she knew her precious baby girl was dead. THIS is exactly what she deserves. The best part of it all, is she did it to herself. It wasn’t the “burden” of being a mother or the responsibilities that go along with that. I hope the rest of her life is a living hell and wish I could have front row seats to her judgement day.

  16. meme says:

I read somewhere that she married her lawyer’s brother. who would marry this beast? she killed her child and tossed her away like garbage.

    • Canadian Becks says:

You might be confusing this female child murderer for our Canadian one. Karla Homolka is a convicted child murderer of 3 girls, one of which was her own younger sister. Homolka went on to marry her lawyer’s brother, moved to the Bahamas and had 3 children.

      • Anners says:

That still makes me so ragey! She should never have been given that deal.

      • MyCatLoves TV says:

I’m STILL pissed about Karla’s sweetheart deal…..set up before the authorities saw the videos that proved she was an enthusiastic accomplice in those horrific crimes.

  17. laurie says:

Ok, did anyone else hear the rumors that she had sex with her lawyer and that’s how she paid for some of her legal bills? Someone (sorry I forget who) claimed to have walked in on her naked in his office. ???

    • jaimeboo says:

I also read that she traded sex for her lawyer’s services. I figured that’s why they are still “helping” her out.

    • Noname says:

If that happened at all, it didn’t during before or during the trial, as she was in jail. Plus, he took the case pro bono… as in offered his services for free. He wanted the notoriety and name recognition.

      • kanyekardashian says:

Prison guards are on the take. They could have gotten it on during visits somehow.

  18. Cindy says:

She really is one strange human being. As are her parents. I think she may live in Florida because her lawyers who support her financially live there? Just a guess. As for how her parents blew through 600,000…… I don’t know. Those two are even more bizarre than their daughter. The only set of human beings with stranger logic on the face of this earth than the Anthony’s was the Florida jury who set Casey free. ah well. It really does pay to be pretty and white I suppose.

  19. Red32 says:

It was her father who was accused of molesting her. Her lawyer made some pretty graphic statements. She was looking for anyone and everyone to throw under the bus.

The number of lies she told during the course of the investigation is mind-boggling, like walking cops around a building at Universal Studios for an hour insisting she worked there and “couldn’t find” her office or anyone who knew her.

  20. KBeth says:

    She’s disgusting.

  21. Beckysuz says:

She’s a disgusting piece of garbage

  22. lucy2 says:

I don’t know what the point of this is – did someone give People these quotes in an attempt for people to feel sorry for her? Because that’s not going to happen.

    • Fiorella says:

Nah I don’t think there’s a specific point or goal. Just filling article quotas I assume. And anyways it’s click bait even with no point .
But actually the point could be to laugh at the monster and feel she gets what she deserves (way less though)

    • Esmom says:

What I didn’t get is if she has no friends, who was providing the “inside” info? I guess it doesn’t matter because I can’t see anyone feeling sorry for her either. She makes my skin crawl.

  23. Bunbun says:

I take it that the brother won’t be asker her to babysit.

  24. Tourmaline says:

I agree with Kaiser, why the hey is she being financially supported by “some members of her legal team?”. Sleazy. How long are they planning to keep that up…til they no longer want her to perform sexual favors for them?

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Or till they are no longer worried she will tell the world how she allegedly paid for their services?

  25. Kri says:

Karma is still being way too kind .

  26. Nicole says:

Gosh poor little child murderer. So so sad. Smh

  27. Stella in NH says:

If she really wanted to work, she could change her name and go elsewhere. She is bored because of her choices–staying in Florida, depending on others to support her, and of course, killing that beautiful baby of hers. No sympathy here.

  28. DrunkNachos says:

What a fitting end for this ugly sociopath. May she live a long and lonely life.

  29. La Ti Da says:

I imagine her parents helped their daughter with her legal fees and all until she and her legal team threw them under the proverbial bus. Add to it both can’t find work and one home went into foreclosure while the other was sold to cover debts (they owned the house their granddaughter died in, doubt they got asking price). $600,000 may, just may, have left them at even, but again they will likely never work regularly again.

    • Canadian Becks says:

Are you saying there were 2 houses? I believe there was only one. It belonged to the Cindy and George Anthony; it was the house where they raised Lee and Casey, and where Casey and Kaylee lived in since Casey had no real means of supporting herself.

I think you are thinking that Casey had her own place- she lived with her parents.

      • La Ti Da says:

You’re correct about the location of Kaylee’s death, it was in the house Casey and her brother were raised in. However, they owned two houses one of which they sold for $85,000 and another lost to foreclosure. The sold house was inherited from Cindy’s father. The foreclosed upon house was the location of Kaylee’s death, I’m not sure if they even attempted to sell it. It was probably smarter to walk away because honestly, who is going to buy that house?

  30. India Andrews says:

Casey is living the exact same fate as Lizzie Borden. Found not guilty but no one believes the verdict so she is serving a sentence in social exile. No sympathy here.

  31. PoliteTeaSipper says:

I prefer to save my self righteous anger for the prosecutors who couldn’t do their jobs and secure a guilty verdict.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Why make it either-or? I’m pissed at them all. But no one is worse than she is.

  32. colleen says:

So the member or members of her legal team who are supporting her are essentially doing the very same thing for/to her that her own parents did: Coddle her to the point of being handicapped as far as being a high-functioning adult. Great.

I definitely held an extremely harsh opinion regarding her part in her daughter’s death when everything was going down, but since then I’ve even been willing to consider that perhaps her daughter may not have necessarily died at Casey’s own hand directly, but that Casey’s severe disregard for and neglect of her daughter (the pool scenario) definitely played a role in that poor child’s death. My point is that whatever the case, the small circle of people in her life continue to nurture her warped view of the world and her sense of self-entitlement. Like several said up thread, Casey Anthony needs to be let go to fend for herself. If natural selection dictates she’s not fit enough to survive in our society, then so be it; we can thank her family for that.

    • KAI says:

If she accidentally drowned in the pool, why did her skeleton have duct tape on the mandible?

      • Colleen says:

I don’t know. Like I said, I’m willing to consider other possibilities, but my point (rather than rehashing the details of the case) is that she (Casey Anthony) was an extremely carnal and spoiled sociopath and very neglectful mother, who deserved to rot in a cell (or worse) for putting her own selfish desires before the needs of her daughter. Anyone with half a brain who found themselves in her position would recognize the undeserved opportunity she’s been given, a second chance at life (something her daughter will never have); yet she’s so self absorbed and cognitively hampered that all she can do is cry boredom and feel sorry for herself. I blame her parents and anyone else who had a hand in fostering this attitude. Such horrible people.

  33. Pmnichols says:

F*** this chick. Maybe she should go tape her mouth shut and jump into the swamp.

  34. HeyThere! says:

I was younger when all this was going on. I don’t know the details(I read all the comments and picked up on a few) BUT I do remember her creepy eyes and thinking how miserable and life shattering devistated I would be if my toddler died.

May her sweet, beautiful daughter be running in fields of gold and enjoying colors that are so amazing we can’t even dream of them! RIP

  35. Margo S. says:

Ugh. Everything about this girl and family is every shade of no. No no no. They all seem messed. Everything about that case gave me the no feeling while it was happening. Just no.

  36. Lauren says:

I read that she has a relationship with her lawyers brother kind of like how Karla Homolka married her lawyers brother and had three kids with him. I am glad Casey is shunned by society. If only the same could be said of Homolka who gets to raise her kids and play happy life/ still has her family’s over whelming support (especially sister Lori’s) even after murdering her sister Tammy.

    • Canadian Becks says:

The Bernardo/ Homolka case was horrifying in its details. I follow true crime and that one and Casey Anthony’s both gripped me like few others.

In the Homolka case, they produced greeting cards she had sent to her friends where she wrote with disdain about her “stupid immigrant” father with his thick accent asking her to scale down her fairytale wedding because of the unexpected costs of the funeral and burial of her dead sister (that she helped to kill!).

She moaned to her friends about how unfair it was for him to ask her to cut costs. Guess what – she ended up having the horse-drawn carriage and fancy reception.

      • Lauren says:

Yep! As a fellow Canadian the Bernardo/Homolka case will always get to me.

I also remember reading that very selfish/evil letter about how all her dad does mope around the house after Tammy’s death and has only worked one day since she died. She then writes how he needs to get over it already because she is still alive and is having a wedding.

The most horrible thing about this case in my opinion is “The Fire Side Chat” transcript. If you have the stomach for it, I suggest you read it. Karla and Paul are pure evil in how they recount with such happiness raping and murdering Tammy. Paul talks about how he loves Tammy and Karla says how she gave him virgin Tammy because she loves him so much. Then she dresses up in Tammy’s clothes and proceeds to sleep with Paul in Tammy’s room. To add more insult to injury, these evil pieces of shit put their photograph in Tammy’s casket at her funeral.

I still cannot fathom how her family can stand by her. Her sister Lori wrote to her in jail saying she should come back to St. Catherine’s after jail and no one would know cause people are dumb etc. She also visited Karla frequently in the Carribean and lets Karla around her kids all the time. It could have just as easily been Lori who Paul chose to fixate on/ rape and murder. I don’t understand how Lori doesn’t see this.

As for Karla’s new husband, he is something else. He actually told reporters that if people had a problem with Karla living in their Quebec town and around their kids then they could move. Also guess what Karla’s new legal name is, “Leanne Teale”. Doesn’t seem like someone who is remorseful if she would choose to live by the name Paul chose for her.

I get so angry thinking about the deal the Canadian Justice System made with her. She really played the helpless and abused victim of Paul who was forced to do those evil things. I guess it was too late to go back on the deal once evidence came to light she was a willing participant in all three girls rape/torture/murder.

      • imqrious2 says:

OMG I just realized you’re describing a “Law and Order” episode that starred Ellen Pompano (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629269/). It gave me chills!

  37. Velvet Elvis says:

There have been some really questionable court case decisions but to me the this was the most shocking. Casey is so obviously guilty. The pool story was a big box of lies, just like every other thing that came out of her mouth. Just goes to show that if you throw enough bullshit around some might end up sticking to create reasonable doubt in someone’s mind. This woman is a monster living in a hell of her own creation. Good. I hope things get worse for her.

  38. JRenee says:

I hope memories of Caylee kept her awake at night…

    • kanyekardashian says:

No such luck. She is a sociopath and most likely re-visits the murder in her mind and derives pleasure from it. Killing Caylee represents her independence from responsibility.

      • d says:

I think she’s amoral and doesn’t give her daughter a second thought. Not thinking of her daughter allowed her to die to begin with anyway.

  39. BooBooLaRue says:

last time I checked it was still free to get a library card – absolutely no sympathy for this individual

  40. JenniferJustice says:

    Several thoughts:

    1. I suspect she stayed in Florida and continues to stay there because her legal team are her only friends. The few dates she’s had were friends of her legal team. They are all she has.

    2. Her legal team foot her living expenses because they are still trying to convince the world they took the case because she is actually innocent – not because Baez simply wanted the highest profile case in his state for decades.
