Third Twilight director David Slade in trouble with fans

30 days of night 161007

David Slade, the recently-named director of the third movie in the Twilight franchise, is in deep trouble with his fans. Depending on the source, he either said the following in a radio interview or on his now-defunct Twitter account: “Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.”

Now, after fans of Twilight jumped down his throat at the mere hint that there was something to criticize about the franchise, he has issued an apology to Twilight Lexicon, which is apparently the go-to place for all things Twilight on the internet.

When I made these comments, I had neither seen the film nor read the books. I was promoting a comedy short film that I had made for Xbox and every pop culture subject was seen as a possible comedy target. I was being silly and none of the statements were from the heart.

Of course, I have since seen the movie and read the books and was quickly consumed with the rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters that Stephenie Meyer created.

I would like to reassure everyone involved that I am invested in making the best film that I am humanly capable of, and that I am acutely aware of the power of the original books we serve.

Please be rest assured this statement is absolutely from the heart.

David Slade is a music video director, and he has also done some films, but he is relatively nameless in the movie world. Though Twilight may not be one of his cinematic masterpieces, it will certainly put his name on the map. He doesn’t want to go around pissing off fans and ruining his chances at getting a name for himself. He needs to be careful – those Twilight fans are intense.

In other Twilight news, filming has started on the second movie, with Dakota Fanning.

Oh geez. Those were hardly anything!!!

It’s not like he went and said “F twilight and twilight fans.”

Twilight fans are freaks if they get upset over that.

  2. cherryblossom says:

    Oh that bloody pansy!
I was totally ready to throw my panties at him before his apology. There is no “rich story telling” or “beautifully honest characters” in Twilight. It’s a bunch of one-dimensional drivel.
Back to the subject: If this grown man had been all fanatical about the books I’d be a bit more worried…it’s like a 40 something admitting he goes to a Miley Cyrus concert. Alone.

  3. ash says:

Yeah, that’s so hilarious! As if there is a ‘rich story telling’. I love the Twilight series, but it’s just a good fun read; it’s no top notch novel. That dude realized how obsessed Twilight fans can be and that his new part as director might be in jeapordy.

  4. Ophelia says:

Twilight fans scare the bejesus out of me. But at the same time, I wish I could be that intense about anything the way those people are. Sorta.
Also, I really don’t get the phenomenon. The plot is really common. I wish Anita Blake books got all this attention instead. They’re way better.

  5. KittyKate says:

    Ophelia, fellow LKH fan here.
I just heard that Anita Blake has been greenlit for a miniseries of some description by IFC.
    Yay! Sorry, had to share.

“Of course, I have since seen the movie and read the books and was quickly consumed with the rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters that Stephenie Meyer created.”

I have read the Twilight books and am one of the few who actually liked the series but that is the most fertile load of bs I have ever read. Damage control much.

  7. Ophelia says:

    @KittyKate
YAY!!!!!!!!!! I do believe you’ve made my day.

  8. FF says:

Hey, I like the Twilight books but this is David Slade – he directed Hard Candy. I can’t bring myself to care beyond that (I loved that film, and 30 Days of Night was okay as well). He can say what he likes as long as he directs the movie well – and he probably will even if he doesn’t make any friends doing it.

He’s got the same UK sense of humour as Pattinson, imo – and usually says something controversial when making his films – maybe they’ll get on.

I’m actually rather excited to see what he’ll do with Eclipse. That said what happened to that guy who directed The Orphanage? I thought he was doing III?

ps – Aw, man! I wanted Elle Fanning, not Dakota. At least there’s Michael Sheen, though. And if it works out, David Slade directing Michael Sheen. Intriguing.

  9. Your Friend says:

If that is really how he feels, maybe ill actually go see the 3rd one!

NOTE: this statement came from the heart …………….heart of my ass… SNAP!

  10. Enonymous says:

I am not a twilight fan, just seen the movie once and that is it, so I am not up-to-date with everything Twilight related but why have they already changed the director for the 3rd film? Why not just stay with the same person if he does a good job with New Moon? It just seems too soon.

  11. ChristinaT says:

i remember thinking how sad it was that they fired the female twilight director, basically calling her a shrew, after she had made so much money for him. so, i have no sympathy for this guy… screw the whole lot of them…

  12. Anna says:

I like Twilight but I probably complain about it more than praise it. But that is just my nature.

Twilight fans are scary indeed. Just watching Rob and Kristen’s reaction at that first convention they went to and seeing the fans screaming at them would be enough to lock myself up and never come out!

  13. Enonymous says:

This guy looks like a complete weirdo.

  14. becca says:

Anna: I believe Rob compared the noise at that Comicon to be very similar to entering the gates of h*ll.

Yeah, the antis love him. 😀

  15. Tim says:

I saw twilight and puked in my mouth. It was so awful, it clearly sucks as 14 year old girls are into it. It was plain awful.

  16. AnejoDave says:

Twilight got me laid so it’s not all bad

  17. Raquel says:

I loved Twilight and I am just excited that they are going to make a third one!

  18. Alison says:

They are using a different director for the third movie because they are cranking these movies out so fast that there is no way the same person could direct more than one. I can’t imagine how they are going to translate Breaking Dawn on film. I feel sorry for that director.

  19. joey says:

And just who are these “fans” of twilight?

  20. JUSTINE says:

i hate Twilight i cant stand it its a stupid book and a stupid movie with stupid ppl that arent even hott at all i dont see how an girl could like Twilight its stupid imoral and ironic its stupid because Edward is 111 years old and the girl he likes is 17 and its also stupid cause the vampires in Twilight can go out in the daylight regular awsome vampires cant and Twilight is stupid because they sparkle vampires cant sparkle wat the hell was the wrighter thinking when she made this book. if anyone wants to read a vampire book that takes vampires to a whole new level and awsome and there so dark and evil then go and read Ann’ Rice’s vampire books cause she is very true and original she is a much better than the one that wrote twilight cause the one that made Twilight was probably in la la land when she wrote it cause vampires dont love ppl the ones in Twilight do and vampires only feed on people’s blood the vampires in Twilight feed on love one feeds on live stock and the other one im not sure wat they feed on but all i have to say is Twilight is stupid dumb ironic and boring. and i am girl and i think Twilight is stupid Twilight suxx

  21. kazgirl says:

Am looking forward to a new director because the characters could do with some polishing. Go for it David, just keep the romance element, thats ultimately what the story is all about!
