Benedict Cumberbatch will probably do a Strange cameo in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Chris Hemsworth posted this ^ photo on his social media – Thor and Loki hanging out in Brisbane, filming Thor: Ragnarok. They’ve actually dressed up Brisbane to stand in for New York, did you know that? Because I guess Thor can’t protect Sydney or Brisbane, he has to protect New York. For reasons! Anyway, it’s good to see Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth hard at work with no clingy wives or girlfriends trying to make everything about them.

Interestingly enough, there is some news from the Ragnarok set: Benedict Cumberbatch might be coming to town. There were a lot of theories floating around about Doctor Strange doing a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, just as there were rumors that some Avenger would make an appearance in Doctor Strange. And now it seems that Strange will appear in Ragnarok.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is set to cameo in Thor: Ragnarok with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo. A photo from the Australian set of the Asgardian god’s third solo movie revealed the news. The snap pictures Hemsworth’s Thor in civilian clothes holding a business card with a handwritten address on it. It reads: “177A Bleecker St.”

Fans of the comics will know this is the New York address of Dr Stephen Strange, who’s getting his own solo movie this October. While the news is certainly very exciting, it does make sense for Thor to return to earth in search of Strange. Cumberbatch’s character is a Sorcerer Supreme, so he’ll be especially useful in helping Thor and Loki cross different dimensions.

If this is happening… then sure, great news for fan-boys, I guess. I’m still wondering if fan-boys are going to embrace Doctor Strange, which is reportedly something of a pet project for Marvel’s Kevin Feige. I mean, it’s Marvel and the fan-boys are going to love everything from Marvel no matter what. But I do think that Marvel is concerned that Strange won’t end up being a massive hit, so they’re already folding him into other stories.

CHemboy really seems to have embraced social media. I wouldn’t have expected that based on his prior rep of whining about paps and not being terribly excited about having to promote his projects.

Doctor Strange was a part of my childhood, so for this reason I must see it, but my expectations are pretty low.

I hate that black on black suit, but I guess it is the sort of thing Loki would wear. Makes him look like a bouncer at a strip club.

    • Betti says:

I’m actually liking the black suited Loki – takes my brain away from the ‘I heart TS’ tank top.

    • HH says:

Oh really?! Given what Marvel did with AntMan and GoTG, I’m actually very excited. Although, I have no emotional investment/attachment to Strange. In terms of Marvel characters, X-Men are my favorite. So, I know what it’s like to be disappointed by a movie. Well, at this point… MOVIE*S*. ugh!

Lol yep, now tom needs to embraced just like his gf.

  4. Lilacflowers says:

This is probably Strange’s introduction to the Avengers so they can pull him into Infinity Wars because there doesn’t seem to have been any crossover casting with the Strange movie. Loki will beat Strange.

    Yeah. Women are the worst.

    • Spiderpig says:

Yeah, how dare male celebs fall in love! They should be perma-single to fulfill their obligation to fangirls.

      /facepalm/

      • Furfur says:

Love? LOL! You *really* don’t know how the industry works, do you? At least TayTo’s fauxmance looks more convincing than BC’s…and that’s saying a lot. CH, on the otherhand, IS in a real relationship. His wife Elsa doesn’t interfere with his work, which is the way it should be.

There is something inadvertently hilarious about the word “Ragnarok”.

    • DSA says:

It’s a word in Norse mythology (and was/is a Korean game). I used to really be into anything Scandinavian because I had the biggest crush on this Nordic man years ago once upon a time… Not ashamed to admit I only discovered “Thor” because of a man. Something good came out of it, at least.

  7. DSA says:

Okay. Well, I always watch the Thor/Loki films anyway (I normally do not like Marvel/DC stuff, although the “Suicide Squad” trailer with the Queen song was tempting as hell). I might not see “Dr. Strange” because going out to the cinema and taking all that effort seems like a huge sacrifice, and it might not be worth it because it’ll hurt to watch (although it’s tempting because I’m into all that dreaming/dimension-slipping and out-of-body-experience stuff). And I don’t feel like watching a film about some dude who loses the use of his hands anyway, it’ll be like watching “La Vie en Rose” all over again. Will it be worth it?
