Billy Bush ‘bragged to NBC colleagues about the crude tape’ at Rio Olympics

The New York Post and Page Six have a long-standing hatred for all things NBC. If you believe Page Six, they also have some great sources within NBC too, which means that whenever there’s an NBC-related scandal, Page Six/NYP often leads the tabloid-style coverage. So, obviously, Page Six has been all over the Billy Bush-related part of the Donald-Trump-Tape. The 2005 Access Hollywood tape featured Donald Trump bragging to Billy Bush about how he (Trump) tried to move in on Nancy O’Dell “like a bitch” when she was married, and how he (Trump) could do anything to women because he was famous, including assaulting them by “grabbing them by the p-ssy.” All while Bush laughed and egged him on.

The reason I didn’t initially make a big deal about Billy Bush’s role in the tape was because I had a bitchy-Cassandra moment last Friday and thought “It would be awful if Billy Bush faced harsher repercussions than Trump.” It’s not that Bush’s words and creepiness were any less scandalous, it’s that Billy Bush isn’t running for president. In no way should we be MORE outraged by Bush’s part than Trump’s part. And yet five days after the tape dropped, we’re still talking about Billy Bush. Here’s what Page Six has to say about him:

Bush’s fixer. Yesterday, Page Six said Bush is really worried about his job and he’s been talking about getting a “fixer” or crisis manager to help him deal with the fallout from the tape.

But he’s probably going to be fired anyway. Sources say Bush will be fired at some point, but no one knows when: “He is technically fired. It’s just a matter of time. NBC isn’t ready to announce it yet. They are negotiating his exit.” NBC is treating this with kid gloves because “NBC was burned by the Ann Curry debacle and they are trying to figure out how to do this.” Don’t compare this situation to Ann Curry. Curry didn’t do anything! Bush laughed as a sexual predator bragged about assaulting women.

Bush might have more tapes. Considering we’re less than four weeks from the election, NBC should be focused on getting more archival footage of Trump not Bush, but insiders are concerned that there are more tapes of Bush being awful.

Bush won’t get a “soft landing.” He won’t be shoved in some far corner of the NBC family, he will likely be fired outright for “stupidity” (seriously, people say he’s dumb) and “morality.” On-air NBC personalities have morality clauses in their contracts and the tape violated that.

Bush had bragged about the tape months ago. According to sources, “Bush bragged to his NBC colleagues about the crude tape with Trump while covering the Olympics in Rio. Now there is an internal investigation at NBC to find out exactly who knew about the tape after Rio.” Meaning… NBC executives could have known about the existance of the tape back in August and maybe NBC suppressed the tape?

And here’s my favorite part of Page Six’s coverage of this scandal: Bush has apparently been in contact with Trump or some of Trump’s people. And Trump wanted to help out his macho alpha-male buddy and Trump offered to “help” with Bush’s PR. A source says: “Trump offered to handle some of the press, but Billy thinks his best course of action is to keep his distance.”

The only part of this reporting that’s being significantly backed up is the part about Bush and NBC negotiating Bush’s exit – everyone’s reporting that now. Bush and NBC are in talks and while Bush is definitely leaving, my guess is that he’ll get a lot of money for leaving. TMZ is also reporting that Bush and several other men on staff at NBC were often lewd and objectifying to women as well.

I see a “Dancing with the Stars” gig in his future.

    • Esmom says:

Lol, yes. A fitting postscript for the guy who has always struck me as the douchiest of dude bros. I couldn’t believe it when I heard he was married with daughters. He really does have the persona of a frat boy.

      • That was my comment. Poor little frat boy got cut off from the corporate keg.

Had he just laughed maybe he would be okay, but he facilitated and used his position with that forced hug, and I’m pretty certain that’s why he’s being booted. Especially now that all of those creeper videos highlighting his misogynistic ways have been threaded together. When you see instance after instance it really hits home how this frat boy was able to slime his way around women.

      • holly hobby says:

Exactly nervous laughter and no comment = he would not be blamed. However he clearly egged Orangino along. The how about a hug for bushy made me queasy too. He’s like the pervert uncle at the family gathering. The guy that always wanted to touch Bridget Jones’ butt during the holiday gatherings.

  2. Natalie S says:

Good. He needed to be fired. Billy Bush encouraging that woman to hug Trump right after he bragged about assaulting women demonstrates that Bush could be capable of enabling predatory behavior towards women. If I were one of his coworkers, I would be livid about being made to work with him.

  3. SusanneToo says:

Chickens are roosting, huh, Billy. Cluck, cluck you dumb ….

  4. ol cranky says:

cue the announcement that Bush has landed a job as a “journalist” at Fox

  5. Pedro45 says:

I think Billy is my least favorite Bush right now and boy is THAT a low bar.

  6. Shambles says:

That face?!? Rude and objectifying to women?! And with a “Sun, Beach, and Whiskey” t shirt? No, I just can’t believe it.

  7. Rhiley says:

Didn’t the Today show in essence “fire” sweetheart, cutie pie Willie Geist for Billy Bush? Willie Geist is a little boring, but he really does seem like a smart, kind, funny person. I haven’t watched Today in years but hiring Billy Bush, for me, was just one more indicator that the show was gross. I wish Al Roker and Tamron Hall would get new gigs and leave the rest of the yucksters there to stew in their own icky juices.

    • Kori says:

      Geist should replace Lauer IMO.

    • Kiki says:

I don’t think he is boring. I think the news should be accurate and concise but if anyone want to put a little fun into then fine, but I want serious information when it comes to news and I really liked Willie Geist. As for Billy Bush, if you ask me, I think Billy Bush is a terrible journalist. You can call me boring for all I care, but this is why I absolutely love CBS.

      • Colette says:

        Is he a journalist?
        He doesn’t have a journalism degree.Is a tv correspondent=journalist?

BTW Tomorrow Oct 13 is his 45th Birthday,if he was still on The Today Show they would be celebrating his birthday with a cake.

  8. anniefannie says:

I was astonished that NBC thought he was a suitable replacement for Willie Geist in the first place. Who is managing the talent over there? Whomever it is they should follow Bush on the chopping block…

    • noway says:

Bingo!!! He was a poor fit. Also, apparently Billy or his people are threatening to sue NBC for unlawful termination. The View did a whole hot topic with this today, and they have the lawyer Sunny (I can’t remember her last name) on and at first she said she thought he had no case, but then she thought about it and she made a good point. NBC knew exactly what Billy Bush was like when they hired him, and they hired him anyway. Keep in mind they own Access Hollywood too, and had access to this footage before. They got what they knew about. The “negotiation” is probably a large payout to avoid a lot more publicity. Yes just another point that NBC, especially Today people are probably dumber than Billy Bush and that says a lot.

  9. Christin says:

He’ll get a nice severance package and likely land another gig. I think what forces the network’s hand may be the legal risk in keeping him employed when there is evidence of inappropriateness.

  10. Lisa says:

I don’t understand why Bush should expect any pay-out if he’s let go. If he violated the morality clause in his contract, the contract is void, no? NBC should just cut him loose without compensation. He can go work for the Orange One as a gofer.

    • Kori says:

In return for a non-disclosure maybe? I’m sure there’s plenty they don’t want discussed–including who may be guilty of the same or who knew about the tape.

    • Bridget says:

Billy Bush doesn’t exactly have powerful allies right now either. The rest of the Bush family has to be ticked that he had dirt on Trump and didn’t help Jeb, and it sounds like the only people that liked him in the first place are the Today execs that are booting him.

    • noway says:

He didn’t violate the morality clause from when the contract was signed for the Today show in 2015. This was eleven years ago, on a NBC owned show, Access Hollywood. His case is they knew about him and this before hand. Look at John Oliver’s creepy interviews with Billy Bush. What kind of news department doesn’t know about the people they hire, especially when they work for a show owned by NBC. Now if he did this on the Today show I would agree with you. I am sure this is where this is going. Still, I’ll take Billy Bush on Today if Donald Trump doesn’t get elected President though.

    • lucy2 says:

Yeah I’m hoping they cite him for violating his contract and shove him out the door.

  11. Jess says:

Billy doesn’t deserve any slack for his role in the Trump Tape. Yes, he’s not running for president (thank goodness), but it’s guys like Billy that allow guys like Trump to keep going without being discovered. Billy’s aw shucks personality makes women think they’re safe around him and here he is, applauding and enabling and assisting Donald’s predatory behavior. That’s completely unacceptable and I would never be able to work with a guy like that (nor should any woman have to). Given NBC’s history of protecting their white male d-bags (Lauer and Brian Williams), I’m actually surprised that they’re not protecting Billy but I’m happy to hear that. He should be fired. F Billy. Trump isn’t going to be president and Billy should learn that his white male privilege (and Bush name) won’t protect him from all of his unacceptable actions.

    • holly hobby says:

NBC is worried about the bottom line. A lot of women wrote in protest on Billy’s facebook after bushgate exploded. I’m sure they wrote to NBC too. They all threatened to bolt if NBC kept Billy on Today.

He really can’t live past this. He pissed a lot of women, including me, off.

    • silliness says:

      Yes! 10000000++++++

  12. Jennifer Jones says:

The Today Show: Where no man is expected to treat a woman with respect. Seriously , Matt Lauer was horrible to his wife for the times he cheated and he showed Ann Curry no respect. I loathe The Today Show. My mom tries to talk to me about it because she loves it. I have to shut it down every time she tries.

    • SusanneToo says:

Yeah, my daughter watches Today, but I’m CBS all the way. There seems to be a higher standard of actual news reporting there.

  13. BobaFelty says:

What a turd. NBC sure likes to promote and facilitate the careers of horrible men.

  14. Mari says:

It doesn’t matter that he’s not running for president. Bad is bad. It has to be shut down, candidate or not, famous or not, “he’s not the type” or not. If he did it, he’s “the type.”

  15. Adrien says:

Billy made a career out of being harmless, safey host then it turned out he is a fratboy deep inside so I am not surprised with the fallout. If this was Matt Lauer, people would shrug this off.

  16. Margo S. says:

Always disliked him. Typical frat boy follower behavior. What a loser and yes, stupid. Because you are mic’d and the camera is rolling and you KNOW this and still talk like that?! You deserve all this public shaming billy bush. I’m laughing at you.

  17. jugil1 says:

He was also instrumental in pushing Nancy O’Dell out of Access Hollywood. This guy is scum.

  18. Eve says:

I’m so glad this tape was released/leaked.

And I don’t even live there.

P.S.: Part of me kind of wanted him to stand a chance. I’m not going to lie, I’d like to see you guys scared sh*tless under the prospect of having a freaking lunatic in the most powerful executive spot there.

P.P.S.: Yes, sometimes I just want to watch the world burn.

    • AngelaH says:

If it brings you any joy, I’m still scared! I have had to double up on my anti-anxiety meds in the past few months. Which means double prescription co-pays. However this is my cheapest medication so at least there is that!

I’m scared that this freaking lunatic got this far.

      • Eve says:

        @ AngelaH:

Full disclosure: my sister cares very little about the US, but even she was outraged that this man got this fair.

        OUTRAGED.

We had a coup here in Brazil (poorly disguised as an impeachment) weeks (months, maybe?) and, still, she was ranting about how f*cking ridiculous was Trump being a candidate. The conversation went like this:

She: “What the hell is going on with the world? Now we have this clown running for president in the US?”

Me (trying to calm her down because she was ranting and driving) — “There’s no way this man is going to be elected”.

She — “I don’t know…but that’s not my point!!! It’s ridiculous that this thing could even become a candidate!!! What the hell were they thinking???!!!? It’s ridiculous! RI–DIC–U–LOUS!!!”.

  19. The Original G says:

In light of the big pay-outs to victims over FOX news, NBC is just protecting itself against similar lawsuits. There’s no moral high road being taken here, but for once the outcome is at least partly satisfying.

  20. Nemera77 says:

I would imagine Billy’s wife is very upset and embarrassed by all of this. He has taken the bread out of the mouth of his family. Trump is far far worse. And like the WORSE they leave a lot of collateral damage in their wake.

  21. Nibbi says:

i already had a mild disgust for billy bush just recently during the rio olympics during which he kinda stood up for his bro-in-arms ryan lochte. maybe he was just being “nice” bc he had personally interviewed lochte and all but come on, the bro-vibes are strong in this one and there is probably some sort of unspoken bro-clan rules. igh

  22. lucy says:

Are ANY of the Bushes intelligent?

  23. Steph B says:

Wait… so NBC has a morality clause but the Republican Party doesn’t have one? Isn’t that supposed to be their thing?
