Miley Cyrus campaigned for Hillary Clinton wearing a giant bow

Two of the biggest battlegrounds on election day will be the swing states and the Millennial vote. Whereas Donald Trump was maligning his accusers to people already voting for him, Hillary Clinton actually went after undecided voters. Understanding that this election isn’t over until the polls close, Hillary dispatched Katy Perry to the University of Las Vegas while Miley Cyrus hit up George Mason University in Virginia (and, of course, Michelle Obama slayed in Arizona). Going old school with door-to-door canvassing, Miley visited with students in their dorm rooms to talk up Hillary.

Surprise! Miley Cyrus visited George Mason University on Saturday, October 22, to encourage students to vote for Hillary Clinton.

“Hello? How are you? I’m Miley,” she said after knocking on freshman Jake Zartman’s door, according to The Washington Post. “I’m here supporting Hillary. Are you going to vote?”

Clad in a red-and-silver striped dress, a furry blue jacket, a pink headband and an oversize blue bow across her chest, Cyrus trekked across the campus in hopes of overturning Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s prospects in the coveted swing state.

“Your room is so cute!” she told another student, Page Six reported. “Sorry to come in with all these people. They’re awesome people also excited for Hillary. Are you registered to vote? Are you voting here or are you from out of town? … I’m from Nashville but I actually just re-registered because I’m so excited to go on the day because I want the sticker.”

Now granted, I have never had to ask myself what would I wear if I were campaigning for Hillary Clinton among college students but if I were, I am fairly certain the answer wouldn’t have been a red and white striped sarong and giant bow bandeau. Of course, no deconstructed Christmas present outfit is complete without a muppet pelt jacket and an exploded pom-pom in one’s hair. Ultimately, it’s about the message though, isn’t it? Miley stumping for Hillary is important for many reasons: 1) She is a former, ardent Bernie supporter 2) She is a Millennial and 3) As she says in the video below, she was raised in both a Conservative and Liberal household so she understands people who want to vote for Hillary in decidedly Conservative families. So I don’t want to derail her message by dwelling too long on the outfit. Miley is always going to leave a sartorial impression, that’s her thing. Let’s just hope her message spoke louder than her outfit. And who knows, maybe the way to reach a Millennial voter is by dressing as their favorite cartoon character.

Really loving Miley and Katy for putting their money where their mouths are – this kind of political canvassing has real potential to disrupt their careers (frighteningly, millions of Americans love Trump and hate Hilary, which could translate to all kinds of losses for these women).

    Good for them.

    • original kay says:

Chris Colfer also does a lot for Hillary. Plus he is an exceptionally talented author, and darn cute to boot.

  2. Who ARE these people? says:

She’s doing the Miley version of Uncle Sam. I love her breezy, unapologetic canvassing style.

    • SnazzyisAlive says:

That’s what I thought too actually. She often annoys me, but for this, no shade. You go get those votes girl!

      • ReineDidon says:

She has my respect for unapologetically expressing her political engagement. Better than Gaga that refused to answer on her thoughts about Trump. Maybe fearing it affects her new album sales ?!

    • PunkyMomma says:

That’s what I thought, too! Go grab those millennials, Miley!

    • lwil2 says:

      Thats my alma mater!

    • Esmom says:

She looks sorta cray but I really, really love that she did this. Katy, too.

    • Sunsetsnow81 says:

I’m behind her and I love that they are getting involved when they don’t have to.

  3. Astrid says:

She’s wearing a crazy outfit but can’t knock it for the election message that she’s sending. Good for her

  4. Lena says:

Well, her ridiculous outfit gets attention which might be good. I

  5. RussianBlueCat says:

If it encourages more young people to go out and vote, this is a good thing.
Every vote does matter. If you don’t vote then don’t complain

  6. als says:

Miley’s outfit fits her status and that’s good. She is free to do whatever and dress however she pleases.
What would be the point to be a music star and dress like you have an office job? This way she is fun and interesting.

  7. linabear says:

This makes me a little jealous since I went to school in VA, but at another university several years ago. I love Miley.

  8. lightpurple says:

She wants the “I voted” sticker. I love the “I Voted” stickers.

    • eggy weggs says:

Me too. I do it all for the sticker. I am 38 and back in the day, stickers were a bigger motivator than food.

    • Ange says:

In Australia most of the voting stations will have either a sausage sizzle or a cake stall rather than stickers. It’s big deal to us to get our Democracy Sausage lol.

  9. eggy weggs says:

I don’t love Miley (or Katy, for that matter) BUT I applaud her for crossing over graciously post-Bernie Sanders. I don’t see, for example, Susan Sarandon out spreading a pro-Hillary message.

I like Katy Perry’s outfit more, though.

    • Lana Banana says:

Why should Susan Sarandon compromise her beliefs? Im sure you would applaud Republicans who dont jump on the Trump train.

Bernie and Hillary are two entirely different ends of the progressive spectrum and if supporting Hillary doesnt sit well with someone at the end of the day, it doesnt make that person “wrong”. I cant wait until election season is over. I miss CB being about gossip and snark rather than multiple political posts in a day.

      • Linda says:

I agree with all your comments. Can’t wait for election to be over and other good gossip come. Why is there so much Clinton Trump coverage here. People on here have their hard core opinions and this gossip site will change nothing. And like I said before I don’t care what Hollywood and celebrities think

      • original kay says:

I don’t, I love love LOVE that this site takes the time to wade through the politics, posts insightful threads and gives us a place to freely discuss what is happening.

This is more than just a “gossip site” to many of us. The writers are far more intelligent and well spoken (well written?) to just be a “gossip site”.

It’s much needed and much appreciated by this Canadian who is very concerned about US politics.

      • SusanneToo says:

I am all for the political coverage and the comments posted. If it means coverage of PMK or Leanne or some Real Housewife or some other Z grade celebrity has to be cut, well, I guess we just have to suffer that.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“Bernie and Hillary are two entirely different ends of the progressive spectrum”

This doesn’t really make any sense. In a political spectrum, Hillary and Bernie are both progressive. Bernie is MORE progressive than Hillary, but to say that they are at different ends of a spectrum is not logical. There is so much overlap there!

To say that Gary Johnson and Bernie are on different ends of the spectrum would be correct.

  10. Belle Epoch says:

To me this is all about Miley. The ridiculous outfit, the posse of photographers… all unnecessary. Just showing on campus would have been enough to blow away the students. I’m glad she’s campaigning for Hillary, but I wouldn’t want to ask her any big questions! Girlfriend is D U M B.

    • MrsBPitt says:

THIS!….Miley looks like an idiot!! I don’t think she is doing Hilary any favors looking like a clown! She could have worn jeans and a vote “t” shirt…but, it’s all got to be about Miley! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!

  11. lisa says:

if i was on the fence, an overpaid uneducated goofball would just push me to write in my cat

  12. Lucy says:

I love Katy’s tee! And, if I’m not mistaken, Miley’s bow is by Spanish designer Agatha Ruíz De La Prada, who has dressed her in previous ocassions. Google her and have some fun.

  13. Vee says:

Whatever she wears the effort is good and makes me like her a little more. I must have missed the story about how the Kardashians are going to colleges to support a candidate. Are they even registered to vote?
