Melania Trump & Barron Trump will not move to the White House in January

Maybe some people won’t remember this, but Republicans regularly threw hissy fits over the cost of Secret Service agents detailed to Michelle Obama whenever she was out of the White House. Whenever she traveled – especially internationally – the GOP delighted in regaling the country with the “excessive” taxpayer cost of protecting the president’s wife. I doubt the GOP will be concerned about this though – reportedly, Melania Trump will not be moving into the White House. She’s going to stay in New York with Barron so he can attend the same school, at least for the end of the school year. Do you know how much this will cost? Do you know the strain on Secret Service resources?

Future First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron will not be moving to the White House after Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, The Post has learned. The president-elect’s 46-year-old wife and their 10-year-old son are staying put at the family’s glitzy Trump Tower penthouse so that Barron can continue attending his Upper West Side private school, sources told The Post.

“Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” said a source close to Trump’s transition team. “The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.”

Another source said Melania Trump will travel to the White House as needed, but that her primary focus is on Barron.

“Melania is very supportive of her husband and is fully on board of doing everything that’s needed as first lady,” said the second source familiar with the Trump transition. That source said also that there is a possibility that Melania and Barron may move to the White House at the end of the school year, but no plans are in place.

“She is really devoted to Barron,” said a source close to the family, adding that Melania has not relied on nannies to raise the child and is frequently seen picking the fourth-grader up from his prep school, where tuition is north of $40,000. The decision to remain in their Midtown home will increase the security presence around Trump Tower — an effort that will involve both Secret Service and the NYPD, an expert familiar with high-level security told The Post.

“That building is going to become the White House of New York,” said Jim Reese, a former Delta Force commander and president of TigerSwan, a global security company based in North Carolina. “The Secret Service is going to have to keep that whole area cordoned off so that some wacko can’t get close and detonate a car bomb.”

Strict security measures around Trump Tower will remain in place, with two of the five lanes on Fifth Avenue between West 56th and 57th streets closed because of barriers, said officials at a joint NYPD, Secret Service and City Hall news conference Friday. Following the presidential election, the area around Trump Tower has turned into a traffic nightmare, with West 56th Street closed to traffic between Fifth and Madison avenues, and shoppers having to go through a security cordon and subject to bag checks. Barron and Melania will each have an unknown number of Secret Service agents assigned to them in addition to a driver and armored vehicle to take Barron to school, Reese said. An advance team of agents will swoop down on the school each morning to make sure it’s safe, he added.

[From The NY Post]

I eagerly await all of the penny-pinching Republican Congressmen’s statements about how this cannot happen, that the costs are too excessive and the whole plan is just too unreasonable. While I do have sympathy for Barron in particular – he seems like a sensitive kid who is probably not close to his father at all – this plan is completely ridiculous, and the costs are too excessive.

So, what else is going on in Trump’s America? Well, Queen Elizabeth II is set to invite the Trumps to Windsor Castle next summer, likely June or July. Trump’s British BFF Nigel Farage says that Trump is “looking forward” to the trip because Trump is a “massive anglophile.”

Oh, and Trump is still angry-tweeting about Saturday Night Live. This weekend’s episode was kind of mundane, but Alec Baldwin returned to play Trump, and this was the cold open:

This is what Trump tweeted:

For the love of God.

I do feel for the kid. He looks lost and lonely in every pic I see of him.

That being said, I also feel for the people of NYC. What a pain in the ass.

    • t.fanty says:

Yep. DiBlasio already sounds so over it. I think angry New Yorkers are probably more likely to take down a Trump presidency than any political party, at this point. This is going to be unendurable.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

I am so looking forward to a mob of angry New Yorkers handling this as only they can.

I can understand her seeing a way to distance her self and her son from…him. However, like her husband, she is heedless of the consequences to her fellow citizens. Their sense of responsibility to others begins and ends with their own needs.

      • Megan says:

I was in NYC last week and it is a mess around the tower that must not be named. Heard lots of people.e complaining.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Be angry, be angry… We need you. 🙂

    • Nicole says:

It’s going to be a damn nightmare. JFK will be locked down anytime they fly in or out and the area around the tower will be locked down.
But no we won’t hear a peep about the drain on the city. Just like we won’t hear about how dignitaries are already booking hotels at trump towers to garner favor.

I cannot believe we are going to let the WH be another business

      • T.Fanty says:

I think we will here SO SO much about it. DiBlasio needs re-election, and he knows that most people in NYC hate Trump, and most people also hate him. He’s got a great opportunity to show that he can take a hardline on something, and make a symbolic gesture (no matter how ultimately insignificant) to challenge the (completely true) belief that he is bought and paid for by the real estate industry.

Plus, don’t mess with New Yorkers trying to get around the city. Between Trump and the second avenue subway, the East side is going to be a special circle of hell, and people will want to blame Trump.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“I cannot believe we are going to let the WH be another business”

        So true.
And he met with his business partners from India this weekend with his daughter present.

He is going to use US policy to help HIMSELF. Anyone who thought he would work for Americans and not himself was conned.

      • Jezi says:

An angry upper east sider here and I can say that we’ve put up with the second ave subway for way too long and finally are getting our streets back. We can’t stand Trump here. And yes DiBlasio is so hated by all of us but he’s definitely winning points with us over the Trump crap. Governor Cuomo can’t stand him either.

      • Freddy says:

Sadly the Drumpfs fly out of LaGuardia on the private jet—and LaGuardia is the WORST airport on the planet..it’s truly like a third world airport. That flights will be delayed for these asswipes only makes the frustration of living in NYC amplified…

    • Crumpet says:

      Agreed.

    • minx says:

If Michelle Obama had done that we would never hear the end of it.

      • Tourmaline says:

Right?? Michelle didn’t have a “nanny” for her kids either, and she was “extremely close” to her kids too!!! (These were the excuses given in the NY Post article I read from “Trump sources” as to why Melania and Barron would not move to the White House).

Michelle would have been called an America hater for not moving to the White House. But all is always forgiven for Melania.

      • Megan says:

I just assumed she would stay in New York. She and Trump seem to live separate lives. Why stop now?

      • mayamae says:

I agree on Michelle. And boy, Republicans hate Michelle’s mom. There was actually a poster here who referred to Michelle’s mother as a freeloader – sucking up taxpayer’s money by living the highlife in the White House. Unbelievable.

      • Maryrose says:

They don’t live together now. She and Barron have lived in a full floor apt directly below the triplex for many years.

      • Snappyfish says:

The hypocrisy is gobsmacking. IF Melania & Barron chose to stay in NYC that’s fine as long as that security is on Trump’s dime. Period. A big deal was made over him not taking a salary. The security in NYC will cost twice that & the whole idea of a presidential salary is to prevent corruption & the president feeling the need to make bank while in office. Clearly this man understands nothing.

As for the boy (who I do have sympathy for) finishing 4th grade in the same school? Give me a break. Enroll in Sidwell Friends like every other presidential child of late. His friends can come visit him in the White House. All these exceptions will cost taxpayers a fortune & should not be allowed

      • Luca76 says:

The issue isn’t the security it’s the impact on the locals. They can pay however security guards they want but that’s not going to give those stores back their lost revenue.

      • valkenburg says:

But Michelle Obama repeatedly took separate vacations from her husband and often took the girls with her, requiring 2 Secret Service details, entire 2-3 floors of a hotel booked, and all the security measures and cost as if they had traveled together, X2, and yes the press did make a big deal out of it.

    • lightpurple says:

And if somebody needs medical attention for a heart attack or stroke in all this mess these jerks have created? If he isn’t moving to DC, Trump needs to withdraw himself before the Electoral College.

    • LinaLamont says:

The city’s been a nightmare to get around since Bloomberg put all the goddamn pedestrian malls and bike lanes all over…NYC is NOT a quaint town that can support these.  Now, one of the few avenues (Fifth) left (with no obstructions) is obstructed. 57th Street is a major crosstown street. It’s bad enough with all the massive construction of massive buildings…now, it’s virtually impossible to cross. Buses are rerouted up to 20 blocks off their routes. Yes, cab fares have tripled from, already, exorbitant prices. Then, all the streets being blocked off every time any of them move around the City…

“I am so looking forward to a mob of angry New Yorkers handling this as only they can.”
Nope. We’re known for sucking it up and getting on with our lives. NYC is a hard place to live in, even in the best of times. Protests, generally, fade away with time.
      We soldier on.

Rumors are going around that the kid is autistic, and, that’s why Trump went on about vaccines and autism. That’s why they want to keep him of of the spotlight. Dunno. All I know is, we (Manhattanites) don’t want the Trumps.

Let those who voted for him take them… let the Rust Belt or Staten Island have them.

      • T.Fanty says:

Yes, but people like the idea of pedestrianizing. I hate citibikes so so so much, but it allows New Yorkers to buy into the notion that riding a bike will negate their MASSIVE seamless landfill contribution and reduce their carbon footprint. But they won’t tolerate police escorts and midtown East being completely impassable whenever the Golden Cheeto feels like swinging by.

      • kodakay says:

Not everyone in the Rust Belt voted for him. I know I didn’t!

      • Uzi says:

@LL…One of my NYC friends says that Barron has a “learning disability” and attends special classes. Also says that his mother is very hands on and absolutely devoted to him. Too bad the orange monster is so egomaniacal that he didn’t consider their feelings…

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

        Or Palm Beach-

      • LinaLamont says:

        @Uzi
Yeah. Trump would never admit that his kid has autism (if true and which is nothing to be ashamed of or hide). And, he had no problem making fun of the journalist with a disability. Trump’s “disgustingness” knows no bounds… true narcissist.
He’d never acknowledge the “old sperm” correlation… rather blame it on (debunked theory) vaccinations.

Gotta say, though, I can’t feign sympathy for anyone in that family/ circle…. not even the kid.

      • New_Kay says:

That makes sense…the autistic kid thing. He always as such a vacant look in his eyes and never seems to smile. Plus they are clearly very protective of him.

      • Kelsey says:

        @New_Kay
My son is autistic and goes to a private school for autism. I interact with the kids a lot. There really isn’t a specific look or that Autism = vacant or no smiles. It is a spectrum and has many different visual cues. Every kid is different. The other day someone thought my son was deaf because when he speaks it has a different sound than normal speech. To that person he didn’t look autistic.

I am not sure if their son is or not but that is really their choice to disclose or not. He seems very overwhelmed by everything whenever I have seen him.

      • lilipad says:

Please have some human decency and don’t speculate on whether a 10 YEAR OLD CHILD has learning disabilities or not. As much as I hate Trump & his spawns of hell who actively supported and perpetuated this crap, Melania and Barron didn’t sign up for this and haven’t done anything to anyone (and if I were to guess, they also want no part of this mess). Slut shaming her or playing armchair psychologist to a child feels very dirty and beneath all of us. Yes, being on the spectrum is nothing to be ashamed of, but a 10 year old’s mental health should be off limits, period.

      • Toxic shock avenger says:

Hell with THAT. Not everyone in the Rust Belt is a mark. I didn’t vote for Pumpkin Spice and if you ship that here, it’s coming back to you COD.

    • Wren33 says:

I feel bad for Melania and Barron, but these are the sorts of conversations you have before you run for president. Are your wife and kids on board? Do you have a plan for actually winning? Even if he didn’t at the outset he should have been damn sure once he won the Republican nomination.

      • kodakay says:

Absolutely! Also I can’t begin to imagine how much this is going to cost taxpayers.

      • Rachel says:

Those are the sorts of conversations you have when your wife’s opinion actually MATTERS. He doesn’t care that she’s not interested in being First Lady. She’s his bought and paid for trophy wife, and he expects her to fulfill that role. We all knew she’d never move into the White House. She’s been as withdrawn from this entire clusterF as he’d let her be.

      • Josefina says:

This is why I keep telling people there was no logical reason to vote for Trump. Even if you ARE a proud racist and you positively want every Mexican deported and a wall built around your country, you could have at least voted for a competent racist to do that, you know? This guy doesn’t even know what the minimal responsibilities of a president are and you can literally just google that. The whole country goes down with an incompetent leader. White supremacists are having a party now, but the inevitable crisis will eventually kick in and they will notice they are not safe from that.

The more I read about Trump the more I’m convinced he simply wanted the title of POTUS, the most powerful man on Earth. He cares about his plan to make “America great again” a lot less than most of his supporters.

The main difference between Hitler and Trump? Hitler was smart and he knew exactly what he was doing. He had a plan for Germany and he wanted to put it to work. Trump? Trump doesn’t care about the USA or about anyone. He just wanted to be the most powerful guy on Earth. And that is why Mike Pence worries me so much. That guy – he’s even a bigger fascist than Trump is and he’s not dumb. I can’t help to feel Pence has some Frank Underwood masterplan going on.

      • Bubbles says:

Is Melania thinking “Why uproot my child & myself when I know The Donald will be impeached within the year”?
There’s already grounds for that, since he’s more than crossed the legal/ethical/blurred lines .
Elected officials must keep copious notes about his criminal activities & when the time is ripe, file to Impeach.
Lining his ORANGE POCKETS W/ LOT’S OF $$$$ MADE FROM BEING ELECTED POTUS is short term.

      • t.fanty says:

I don’t feel sorry for her. She wanted to be a wealthy socialite, and now she has to do a little work for it. Welcome to life, dear.

      • L says:

I honestly think he did not expect to win.

      • Wren33 says:

I agree, but that’s terrifying. Things like 9/11, Katrina, etc. are all unexpected. Is he just going to wing the whole presidency?

    • Hindulovegod says:

Midtown is a mess. It’s like being on the East Side during UN General Assembly, except there’s no end in sight. And Christmas is essential for the Fifth Avenue retailers. Are tourists really going to walk through police barricades and constant protests to get to Gucci or Abercrombie and Fitch? Thanks, Trump.

      • LinaLamont says:

        @Hindulovegod
“Are tourists really going to walk through police barricades and constant protests to get to Gucci or Abercrombie and Fitch?”
Are you kidding? Tourists are flocking to Trump’s Dump to take selfies…albeit, some, while giving the finger. It’s those of us who live here, pay taxes, eat out, etc. and support the city day in and day out with our money who suffer.

Side note, the constant helicopters get annoying, especially, at night.

      • Luca76 says:

Hate to sound stereotypical but the type of tourists that want to see Trump don’t have money for the Gucci store. Yes that Gucci, Tiffany etc money will be spent elsewhere but the salespeople who depend on commissions will be the ones who lose out.

      • LinaLamont says:

        @Luca76
There’s access to the stores on 57th and Tiffany’s 57th Street entrance. It’s Fifth Avenue that’s the problem… no access at all.  Foot traffic is not, entirely, impeded along 57th. Tiffany’s is one of the most crowded stores at X-mas… crowded with tourists who spend the bare minimum to carry a tiny turquoise bag (although, I don’t understand it, since Tiffany’s is everywhere). If anything, I think, Tiffany’s will profit from tourists making the pilgrimage to Trump Dump. Small businesses and restaurants might suffer.

      • Luca76 says:

Tiffanys probably benefits from being the Tiffanys from
Breakfast at Tiffanys. Yes people want to go in and get a little bag but the kind of high end customers that want to spend serious money aren’t going to go through that mess when they can stay in another part of town and shop without security. That’s what I’m trying to get across this will hurt small businesses who are paying sickening rents and the workers in the area who live off of commission/and or tips.

      • Jessica says:

Just talked to my uncle who is an actor and licensed tour guide (lives in Hell’s Kitchen). He said about the same re the retailers.

    • LinaLamont says:

      @lightpurple
“And if somebody needs medical attention for a heart attack or stroke in all this mess these jerks have created?”
Christie may have dodged that bullet with Bridgegate.

“If he isn’t moving to DC, Trump needs to withdraw himself before the Electoral College.”
Even though it’s unprecedented, is it the law? I thought it was a murky area. As I’ve said, repeatedly, I’m the furthest thing from an expert on these matters.

Who can even guess. Maybe, the master plan is to get the administration in place and, then, step down/back out… citing family matters. Although, I still think impeachment is the endgame.

    • robyn says:

Oh, please … there are a lot of starving kids in war torn countries that could use your sympathy not this little prince of Trumps. Sickening!

    • Carmen says:

I used to work five blocks away from that building. Thank God I’m retired. I don’t even want to think about what the traffic must be like.

    • Carmen says:

That is the saddest looking child I have ever seen. He doesn’t seem to have any emotional connection with either parent.

  2. Squiggisbig says:

Yikes. That sounds like a huge pain if you live in that area of New York.

    • DeniseMich says:

It is a pain . Cab rides are costing triple due to traffic.

Is someone going to tell Donald Trump to stop angry tweeting and violating the 1st amendment.

      • lightpurple says:

People have told him on Twitter.

      • Little Darling says:

Sure am looking forward to the next 4 years of his momentous presidency that is going to be a real life Twitter timeline of every fart that bubbles up to his brain.

Imagine his in house emails? He’s probably going to sign them @realDonaldTrump. Nothing says “America’s Great!” than a President who thinks in 160 characters or less!

      • AG-UK says:

Love to see his reaction when they say you can’t have a mobile phone. I am going to NY tomorrow for Thanksgiving luckily I never venture above 42 St but I know that building well. All of his buildings are too much glass and soulless. He did say they had this conversation about running with his family maybe he was referring to Ivanka and the boys who’s names I don’t know or care to.

    • Victoria says:

Gridlock alert for the holiday season was this past Friday, this will make traveling to and around the city MUCH more of a pain in the ass. I love the city during the holidays with the store windows decorations which have been canceled by Tiffany’s. I wonder how all those high end businesses will be affected? I would like to hear the spin on how the limitations boost the economy 🙄

    • Fl girl says:

Just wait ’til they put up the effing tree at Rockefeller Center. That end of town will be a nightmare.

    • Liz says:

I do live in the same neighborhood as the school. No, I will not name it. It is going to be an absolute nightmare. It’s on a narrow, one-way street, in a residential neighborhood, with a large public school a block away. School drop-off and pick-up times are already a congested mess under the best of circumstances. A daily Secret Service presence will bring the neighborhood to a complete standstill. Every single school day.

And don’t get me started on the cost to taxpayers. The GOP bitched and moaned when the Obamas came to NYC for a single date night, costing the tax payers $65,000. I can’t fathom what this set up will cost, particularly if DJT is commuting back and forth regularly. It will run into the tens of millions of dollars per year.

And no, he’s not going to be impeached. Legally, there will certainly be a case for it. But politically, the GOP controlled Congress will not do it. They might hold the threat over his head to get what they want sometimes, but impeachment is not going to actually happen.

      • Luca76 says:

It won’t happen until after midterms if Dems can overcome the gerrymandering. It also depends on how badly DT screws up his first term. Supporting impeachment may be the only way for Republicans to repudiate Trump’s policies.

      • Ninks says:

The GOP hates him, he’s volatile, unpredictable, and a huge mess. They’ll put up with him for a while, because they have to. But, yeah, they’ll impeach him as soon as they can and replace him with Pence who they love.

      • Liz says:

McCain and a few others may find their backbones, but not the ones who hold the levers – Chaffetz will not hold hearings on Trump’s business practices until he is forced to by Ryan (and that’s the first step). Ryan will not order Chaffetz to do it, not unless Trump threatens him or his political career.

  3. Snowflake says:

Oh the republican’s won’t complain about it. They’ll just find another reason to support it, even if it’s directly opposite to what they have said in the past. After all they did that the whole campaign.

    • lightpurple says:

They won’t care about it but I will hound them about it constantly.

    • Rhiley says:

I agree. The Republicans are going to be so drunk with power for at least 100 days that we will have a massive hangover come the end of summer. As much as I love Obama, I wish trump could get started. I feel like the earlier he starts the sooner the honeymoon will be over. It is going to be really bad for a while, and hey, the Republicans may all keep their mouths shut and walk the line, but I agree, the people of NYC may take him down in their place.

      • Kitten says:

I know what you mean. Let’s just get this over with.

      • Little Darling says:

Exactly: I’m so full of so much shit since the election announced him the winner that I literally cannot wait to barf it all up and move on with my life. This sickening horror filled feeling in my stomach that is similar to having shots, a few pints, a shit ton of hot wings followed by sake bombs. Full up.

I’m hoping once the inauguration is over I can puke up rainbow rights of intent and focus more on my #2016activistborn campaign, than currently having to choke down all of this sadness/worry/anger.

      • eggy weggs says:

        OMG, yep, THIS.

      • EM says:

Agreed and I am keeping a list of all the freedoms that will be lost in these next few years. And when we get rid of Trump-Pence (assuming we are still a democracy), I am going to throw all of those freedoms back at the Republicans especially if we go after their precious 2nd Amendment. They want to limit the 1st and others then they are going to set a precedent they will not want to live with.

    • SusanneToo says:

His cultists will delight in it as a way to stick it to those “Commie New Yorkers.”

Pssst, Morons-trump is a New Yorker.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      So true, snowflake!

  4. Nina says:

I’m sure all these Republican congressmen will find an absurd way to justify this.

    • Tate says:

The common comeback from supporters seems to be…. but Trump is not going to take his salary. 🙄🙄

      • Alix says:

Fine. But this’ll cost a helluva lot more than $400k, especially if she keeps it up for (gulp) four years.

      • Snowflake says:

I don’t believe that he’s not taking the salary. He can say that but who’s going to come out and say, yes, he is.

      • Rhiley says:

@Alix- my understanding is that it is just until the end of this school year- at least that is what they are saying now. I have a feeling though by next January trump will be living in New York more or less full time and Pence will be in the might house. The Republicans love Mike Crazy Eyes Pence.

      • lightpurple says:

I haven’t heard him decline the health care. Nor have I heard whether that $400,000 is going back into the general fund or whether he is simply diverting it elsewhere. Romney made a big stink about how he wasn’t accepting his gubernatorial salary in MA but he did not put the money back into the general fund where it could be used to fund state programs. Instead, he used it to pay really high salaries to his cronies. And he kept the health care and other perks. He also rarely showed up for work, going whole months when neither he or his lieutenant governor, who did the same with her salary, were even in the state.

      • swak says:

IMO by not taking the salary it’s one more reason that Trump thinks he then doesn’t have to play by the rules. Doesn’t have to live at the White House, can still run his business (mostly because the scrutiny in NYC will be a whole of a lot less than in DC), etc. I get not moving to DC until school is out. But at that point there is no reason not to move. Again, gives Trump another reason not to live in the White House (he wants to be with his family). AND PLEASE, no nannies? Yeah, right.

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Rick Scott (governor of FL) takes only $1 / month salary as that is the least he can draw. And he has cost me 12% of my paycheck working for the FL education system. I used to get a 6% contribution to my pension fund, he did away with that and charges me the 6% contribution to the pension fund, but it doesn’t go into the pension fund – it goes into the general operating fund. So, essentially, a tax. Florida doesn’t have an income tax…well, except apparently for employees of the state. If you aren’t paid by the people you work for WHO are you responsible to.?

      • S says:

Also, legally, Trump can NOT refuse the salary of the United States President without having a new law passed allowing him to do so. He can, of course, donate the amount to charity, or return it to the Treasury. Kennedy donated his congressional AND Presidential salary to charity, as did Hoover. Obama returned part of his salary to the Treasury.

Of course, we all know how great Trump is about following through with promises to charity. Not to mention disclosing his tax returns.

      • L says:

Look, we all know the salary for the president is not so support him/her, but to remind them that they are doing a JOB. So I think it’s foolish of him to spout off about not accepting the salary.

    • lucy2 says:

Considering they’re the same party who complained about Obama being “inexperienced” and “a celebrity” and then they turned around and elected Trump, I have no doubt they will find some twisted way to justify this.

  5. Tina says:

I feel sorry for Barron, who didn’t ask for any of this. Nor did the people and businesses of midtown Manhattan.

Also, I hope no one blames the Queen for inviting Trump. It’s not her call, she just has to nod and smile. (And as a political move on May’s part, it’s the only sensible thing she’s done in ages).

Alec Baldwin’s twitter responses to Trump were accurate. I never knew he was politically savvy.

    • Nina says:

I hope she will trash talk him behind his back and someone leak it, like what happened to the Chinese delegates lol

      • Tina says:

That would be excellent. I just hope she makes it to next year, God knows what would happen if Trump had to meet Charles. Actually, Andrew would be a perfect person for that visit. He and Trump are both obnoxious, golf-loving, teetotal sex pests. I hope the Queen has him lined up.

      • Sixer says:

Good grief. He really is the American Andrew, isn’t he?

      • Tina says:

He really is. The truly sad thing is that Andrew has been better for British business than Trump has been (or will be) for American business.

    • Barrett says:

I agree not a fan of this topic bc it’s about a kid finishing school. Barron has to go through enough w the attention and these 2 as parents! Let him finish the school year.geez he almost passed out at 3 am on live tv.

No sensationalism ab his finishing school! Kids off limits.

      • Pansy says:

Thank you. I was reading this thinking “ok but other parents have to move their families for work, my gosh what is this going to cost, etc” ready to jump on board with outrage. And while that is all true, this is a kid. I have a kid about the same age. Let’s always leave the kids alone. Who knows, Melania may actually be a good mom and be putting her foot down.

      • Luca76 says:

They should have had a plan for this that didn’t involve costing everyone else money . The economy on 5th Ave is probably larger then many small cities. In the grand scale of things it’s one 10 yr old vs the people that work in the area. The kids that work at the Starbucks , Gap, H&M etc that barely make minimum wage that face layoffs. The boutiques, salons, spas, etc that pay insane rents but can’t get any foot traffic . The sales people who work entirely on commission that won’t make half of what they usually do. The NYPD that’s stationed on 5th avenue on NYC’s dime when they could be in more dangerous neighborhoods. Let them go to Mar a lago.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

I know, I know, it’s not ideal… but at the same time …. Washington DC is a city with private schools amply prepared to educate and protect the children of the ruling class, and the children of presidents, VPs, Cabinet secretaries, etc. have dealt with this and gone on with their lives. Children across America have suffered great disruptions and privation as a result of Republican policies, and lost parents in Republican wars. Barron is old enough to be taught that sometimes we have to make changes as a result of daddy’s or mommy’s job and he will adjust and make new friends, and that if they stay in New York it’s going to be a big mess for everybody and mommy and daddy care about that, too.

Instead, what he’ll learn is that he must be sheltered at all costs and that his comfort and convenience come first above thousands of other people. And as I see from the comment below, if they really cared about him, DT didn’t have to run. No, I suspect Melania sees a chance to stay home away from the Orange Ogre and is hoping it’ll be a short-lived presidency.

      • Esmom says:

Who ARE, Exactly. And how many First Families’ lives have been “disrupted” because of the presidency? Pretty much all of them — moving into the White House goes with the territory. This is just one other example of how clueless Trump is about the job and the protocols that go with it.

And it seems like it’s a tradition for most First Kids to recall about how fun it was to live there amid history. I remember my kids being excited for Sasha and Malia being able to move into such a cool place, lol.

I don’t know, the fact that the family isn’t embracing the tradition just really irks me.

      • lightpurple says:

This kid is going to cause problems for thousands of innocent people. What if somebody has a heart attack in that area and the ambulance cannot get through? His parents should have considered all of this before they sought the job with “relocation required, constant travel necessary.” The father should withdraw if he can’t move the kid.

      • BOnBons says:

Completely agree …..thank you. Kids off limits. The kids life is topsy turbulent now, at least let him finish out the school, year.

It’s 5 months, Suck it up Buttercups. The oh woe is me at the support of a 12 year old in major transition is a dismal demonstration of the worst possible attitude.

As far as the history of living in the WH….I concur, And he’ll get there just late this spring, That leaves 3-1/2 yrs. not that I think that’s really an issue for most of you….worried about him embracing the first kid experience and all.

He’s a kid. A kid. For the last 12 years we all have screamed that the Obama girls should be off limits and they pretty much were.

The same applies. Oh except when the kids last name is Trump, right?👀

      • Who ARE These People? says:

“What if somebody has a heart attack in that area and the ambulance cannot get through?” Turns out Chris Christie had more influence over the transition than we thought.

Seriously, they could present this to the kid as an opportunity – which it is.

      • my3cents says:

Things to consider when running for presidency:
#235 if chosen you will have to move to the White House.

        From : presidency for dummies

      • Rachel says:

Read the statement from his camp: They “may” move into the White House at the end of the school year, “but no plans are in place.” Which means they’re using school as an excuse for her not to move into the White House. She’ll never move there.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Bonbons. The Obama girls moved into the White House in the middle of their school year. They didn’t inconvenience the people of Chicago or run up the taxpayers’ bill. The same should apply here. Oh, but for you, the last name trump is snowflake special, huh?

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Uh, guys. This is ONE child’s mild discomfort of moving from one plush private school to another. Millions of children all over the world survive CHANGING SCHOOL EVERY YEAR! Oh the poor child, everyone chill. No. Life is hard and if this is the hardest lesson he learns at 10 or 11, please.

I had to think of one of the last episodes of The West Wing when the new first lady plans to do the same. And then everyone starts to lay out what that entails for her family and everyone living around them and she’s all “Uh, let’s move then.” Yes, it’s fiction but they had a point.

      • Lightpurple says:

@Bonbons, except the Obama girls made the transition. Do you plan to say: “suck it up, buttercups!” To those whose property burns because fire engines can’t get through the gridlock created to safeguard the princeling? Or to those who are hurt or killed in such a fire? Nobody is going after the kid. We are going after his atrocious parents who think they were just elected KING and never bothered to read the job requirements. The people of NYC should not be inconvenienced one day, never mind five months for Donald Trump’s offspring.

      • Leah says:

        @Barrett
The Obamas also considered letting their kids finish the school year but were told it wasn’t possible so they sucked it up and moved to DC in the middle of the school year. Their youngest was the same age as Trumps son is now at the time. Its a bit odd that you think Trump should be able to bend the rules at the expense of the taxpayers and at the inconvenience of every day working new yorkers. Like others have said his parents should have thought about this and laid a plan to avoid inconveniencing the city.

    • kodakay says:

It is/was Barron’s parents’ job to protect him from all of this. Trump couldn’t have thought this through. He hates following rules and the presidency is entombed in them. Good luck with that…

  6. lightpurple says:

“The campaign has been difficult for Barron”

If his father gave a damn about the kid, there would never have been a campaign.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

The campaign has been difficult for all of us. Barron still gets to sleep in his golden tower and go to private school. I’m not saying eff the kid, none of this has anything to do with him. But my sympathy is reserved for … well, everyone else for whom this campaign was difficult. We should maybe feel bad that he has DT as a father. That seems to be the bigger concern.

I have only been to NYC once in my life but I do remember that area because I peed in Trump Tower. … I used the bathroom I mean. That seems like a logistical nightmare and hell for traffic.

  7. Jayna says:

I remember the Obamas considered doing that for their girls, letting them finish out their school year at their school in Chicago.

    • lightpurple says:

They considered it but did not do it.

    • Lena says:

They did and were told it just wasn’t possible and so they did what they have to do and moved to the White House.

    • IlsaLund says:

ITA with Lena. And Malia was about Barron’s age when she transferred schools mid year. Kids are very adaptable. Military children change schools all the time and I’m sure many of them are just as sensitive as Barron. He can’t be that much of a special little snowflake.

      • Cannibell says:

Also, if they are really that hell-bent on him staying in NY to go to school, let him stay with his sister and her family. People do that sort of thing all the time. More than anything, this shows what kind of communication void exists within this family.

Maybe we just move the capitol to New York (where it was originally) for the next four years and let Mr. Trump go to DC whenever he’s needed since I’m sure he “is fully on board of doing everything that’s needed as” president. .

      • SusanneToo says:

As an Army kid I went to eleven different schools in twelve years. It’s what you do when your parent is serving the nation. I loved it-new places, new people.

      • teacakes says:

Malia was exactly Barron’s current age when she moved into the White House – ten years old.

I see no reason why this kid should get the special treatment at the taxpayer’s expense, when that one didn’t.

    • Oya says:

Michelle really wanted to stay out the school year and Secret Service talked the O’s out of that. As a compromise she brought her Mom to help out –and of course right-wingers lost their s**t. I don’t fault Melania for being a loving Mom and wanting Barron to finish out his school year (w/bonus of being away from the Donald), but there has been no statement from the Trumps acknowledging that the US and NYers are paying a huge price (not just $$) for Trump comfort.

  8. Alix says:

In all fairness, nobody told Drumpf that your family had to move into the White House if you became president — he thought that option was only for losers who don’t have their own hotels.

  9. Emily says:

I’ve read quite a few rumours online that Barron has autism. It wouldn’t surprise me if Melania is protective of him and doesn’t want to force too much change on him at once. Also, I think we all know that she has zero interest in this First Lady gig…

    • SusanneToo says:

And maybe a great deal of interest in being away from the orange turd.

    • Erinn says:

If that’s the case, I really feel for the kid. His own father publicly mocks those who he deems disabled in any way.

      • Victoria says:

I work in early intervention as an ABA therapist for babies with autism and they need routine and structure. To yank Barron out of school and uproot him to a different city, home and school all at the same time could be very upsetting and regression could occur; off setting the progress he made. My heart goes out to the kid.

      • BJ says:

I don’t believe he has autism.I have seen him during several interviews on entertainment shows including Extra and ET .He maintained eye contact with the interviewer,he even answered a question or two on Extra.
I believe those rumors were started by Trump haters.I despise Trump but I would never criticize his minor son.I would definitely criticize his older kids.

      • Esmom says:

BJ, people on the autism spectrum can make eye contact and answer questions. But in any case, it seems sort of unseemly to speculate about.

      • BJ says:

I know that @Esmom but there is no evidence he has autism. Some of the rumors claimed he doesn’t speak, doesn’t make eye contact or seems disconnected. There were no rumors about him having autism until a few weeks ago when he appeared bored. This boy has been in the public eye for years.

      • Shark Bait says:

There were some rumors back when Donald tweeted that vaccines can lead to autism. I had completely forgotten about that until someone brought it up in this thread. People believed Barron might be autistic and Donald and Melania blamed it on vaccines. However, I’m not going to speculate about it, Barron can’t help who his dad is.

    • SusanneToo says:

How does anyone know whether he is on the spectrum or not?

    • used to ♡ cheetos says:

Until either Melania or Dump comes out and actually says their son has autism, then he doesn’t have autism.

I have no idea how these crazy rumors start. I worked as a behavioral therapist for children with autism for years, and I have seen zero outward signs he may have autism. Of course, you cannot always tell from simple observation, but there is nothing immediately apparent in his behavior that would support the silly speculation.

And if Obama had done with Sasha and Malia what Dump is doing with Baron re: schooling, there would have been major hell to pay. I feel like the worst that Agent Orange is getting is a mild side eye from Washington.

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

He owns republican Washington, he paid for it. He won their election. He will do no apparent wrong between now and January 20. But, once he is president (and I’ll never upper case that or speak his trump name in the same sentence} then we can step up and complain non-stop.

      • S says:

In terms of the speculation regarding Barron, which I agree wholeheartedly is gross, everything @used to heart wrote. Well said.

      • Shark Bait says:

        I agree.
There were a few rumblings and rumors when trump tweeted something about vaccines causing Autism. A few people wondered why he would say such a thing if it didn’t affect him personally. This was back when he was just saying stupid stuff on Twitter while hosting the Apprentice, a much simpler time- sigh.

  10. Senaber says:

The white supremacist is a massive Anglophile? Who’d a thunk it?

    • Robot Dog says:

I wish it was just fantasy, but I fear we’re caught in a landslide with no escape from reality….

With the security costs, traffic headaches, impact to businesses and, worst of all, the economic damage to people who live/work/travel in that area, this is going to cost a hell of a lot more than the salary moldy tangerine is “graciously” claiming he’s going to decline, and I hope those costs are calculated and published. Daily. Preferably on a big screen in Times Square. Or next to the doomsday clock.

      • Christin says:

Once actual costs are determined, I do think taxpayers should know and not let the news be diverted by some 3am tweetfest.

I heard a TV talking head throw out ‘tens of millions’ as the estimate for added security costs (not including the potential negative economic impact).

Trump’s election sucks for all of us, why should she have it easy?

    • Chaine says:

I’m betting at the end of school year there will be a new excuse and that she and Barron will never actually move to D.C. Also that we will never hear anything again about her planned campaign against online bullying.

    • Spikey says:

I’m so sorry for you guys. Any new FLOTUS would have had her work cut out for her after the wonderful Mrs. O (I love her so much, if you don’t know what to do with her, send her over to us Old Europeans! We’re in dire need of some positivity too, loads of elections coming up…). Melania however… that’s a whole different story.

  12. Crowdhood says:

I do feel sorry for Baron and I don’t have a problem about the additional cost for secret service in New York in the grand scheme
Of US Government money mismanagement but I do agree that the GOP will have to swallow some bitter pills after their deplorable reaction to EVERYTHING these past 8 years.

    • Luca76 says:

I’m glad you don’t have a problem with it I’m guessing you’ve got no idea what kind of chaos a presidential visit causes in a densely populated city like NY and what it looks like and how many people are losing income because of their narcissism already. They should make Mar a lago their second White House and have a country home like every other president. There are rumors that local retailers are planning to sue.

      • Kate says:

I heard Gucci has already filed.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Of course his kids are clueless…he trained them.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Christin. Not clueless. Just me, me, me, me, me, selfish. A lifetime of cheating and defrauding people, now they have the biggest plum of all and they’re going to suck it dry.

@Miss Jupitero, but if he quits before the Electoral College votes, say hello to Madame President! Let’s drive him crazy!

    • Oya says:

I feel bad for the kid as well, but I’m guessing you’ve never been a half-hour late on your lunch break because you forgot to pay attention to the news and got caught in the total stopping of vehicle and pedestrian traffic for a presidential motorcade. It’s going to be a Yuuge disaster for businesses and workers in that area.

    • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

@ crowdhood. As long as you don’t have a problem…neither will they

  13. Belle Epoch says:

CLOSING LANES IN NEW YORK? Spending millions to protect two people who are putting the entire city at risk? I’m sure Melania loves getting away from Donald and maintaining her social life, but this makes me furious. Barron is stressed out of his head because he is on the autism spectrum and all the campaigning is NOT what he needed. Let him live in peace at the White House and bring in a couple of tutors, saving the country MILLIONS. I really hate these people.

    • BonBon says:

Speculating publically about the health of a 12 year old — and his parents management of same –when we know absolutely NOTHING about it is beyond inappropriate.

What if this child is reading these posts? I don’t care who his parents are. This $hit is just wrong. He’s a child. We are adults.

      SMH.

      • Lightpurple says:

Child should be in school and reading schoolwork. His parents should be monitoring his internal access; that is THEIR job, not ours. There are far worse things about him and his family out there.

      • BonBon says:

If that’s the best excuse…….he shouldn’t have access …he should be in school…..

And no where in there is “we shouldn’t be speculating about an innocent child in this manner to begin with…”

then the democratic claim to moral high ground and moral superiority is complete fallacy.

      • Frida_K says:

If I were the sort to worry about Barron’s internet discoveries and whether or not they will crush his little soul, probably I’d be wringing my hands over the notion of him coming across his mother’s modeling photographs.

Fortunately, I could not care less what young Mr. Trump finds on the internet. You sure are sweet to care, though, BonBon!

        Bless your heart.

      • lightpurple says:

Independent here. And my claim to the moral high ground is based upon the havoc and expense this will wreak on the millions of people in NYC, for whom you seem to show no concern whatsoever. Barron Trump’s internet surfing is not my concern; it should be the concern of his parents and despite your repeated accusations at me, I have said nothing about the child’s status. Now, would you care to discuss the impact this decision to keep the child in NYC, which you seem to support wholeheartedly, will have on the people of NYC?

  14. aquarius64 says:

Melania will be FLOTUS in name only until Barron finishes school for the year. I think Trump didn’t bother to discuss a White House life with her; she was just suppose to go along. There is not only strain on security but doing East Wing work out of Trump Tower –

  15. . says:

She’s staying in New York so that Ivanka can play First Lady.

    • midigo says:

      This!
I think he is doubtful about the contribution that Melania could bring to his mandate. Expecially compared to Michelle. Maybe there could be something in her past, who knows?
If she doesn’t live in the WH, should something going wrong with her “credentials”, cv or past “accomplishments”, he will be able to dump her without major disruption.

    • Saro says:

Was just coming out of Lurkers’ Alley to say exactly this!

    • EM says:

Without a doubt – we will see Ivanka & family moving to DC.

  16. Kasia says:

LOL these people really didn’t think Drumpf was going to win either, did they? Literally no preparation for this. We’re in for such a fun four years…. :/

  17. Kat says:

Ooh, Ivanka slithers in as proto wife de facto first lady.

    • SusanneToo says:

That was always going to happen whether Melania is in DC or not.

    • Cannibell says:

If the excuse for Melania staying in NY is her kid, it will be fascinating to see what kind of knots the transition team/administration comes up with for Ivanka functioning as de-facto first lady, given that she has three small children.

      • mayamae says:

Ivanka is very proud that she insists on working in a full hour with her children daily. I’m sure she could still manage that in the White House.

    • HK9 says:

Bingo! Being First Lady is a large job and it’s clear Melania did not sign up for that. Ivanka however will prance into that post before we can all say boo. I have no idea how so many power hungry people exist in the same family. wow

  18. Luca76 says:

It’s a nightmare in NYC. Even as is right now there are barricades not only at Trump Towers but Trump International just north of Columbus Circle with NYPD cops stationed there. These are major congestion points without him around . 5th avenue is a major commercial hub especially at Christmas when high end retailers create stunning Christmas decorations (Bergdoff, Tiffanys, Sacks). The Towers are a 5 minute walk from the Rockefeller Center Tree. Walking down 5th avenue in December is a nightmare without the added security . If he had any decency they’d move to Mar a lago and stop affecting the thousands of people who work in that area because besides the Towers its predominantly a shopping district.

  19. robyn says:

She didn’t think American’s were stupid enough to vote for her husband. And she is not prepared to make any “sacrifice” like changing his school to live in the White House. You can forget about her ever sending that kid into the military to possibly die for his country. She will move in at her convenience. She knows she can have her cake and eat it too.

  20. Prairiegirl says:

Bess Truman hated Washington DC and spent very little time there. The Trumps’ plan isn’t unprecedented.

    However, Independence Missouri isn’t NYNY.

    • Luca76 says:

I have no issue with her not wanting to be First Lady in DC but she should find somewhere secluded and live her life without affecting the economy of the biggest city in the country. I wont speculate about whether Baron has special needs but it shows an utter lack of judgement on his fathers side not to have a plan in place to transition him in the event of his presidency. The idea that we should tank the hundreds of businesses in that area for the benefit of one child is absolutely disgusting.

  21. Shambles says:

For some reason reading the phrase “The White House of New York” was incredibly disturbing to me.

I know Barron didn’t ask for any of this, but this still pisses me off. Trump supporters are the first people to use the term “special snowflake,” bemoaning those they believe have been raised to think they’re more important than everyone else. And then their own Führer is raising his son in such a way that his feelings are more important than the day to day lives of millions of people. It’s just another indication that he thinks he’s above everything about his new role, that he doesn’t understand that he is a PUBLIC freaking SERVANT. He works for us. He is not the god damned king.

    • lightpurple says:

“The White House of New York” is extremely disturbing because having the capital in New York City was tried and failed and Washington DC was chosen for a reason. But none of these jerks have bothered to read the Constitution or the history surrounding it.

    • Kitten says:

Exactly, Shambles. This is completely unprecedented. But is anyone surprised that this arrogant ahole feels no responsibility to uphold tradition, to serve the people?
The sense of entitlement is just nauseating.

    • Maria says:

This. exactly. As much as i feel for the boy, I cannot believe that people put him finishing his school year over all that this means for a city like NY and its resources. It is extremely selfcentered and shows a disdain for everybody else but themselves. But yeah, then we have to all be getting along and be nice to them and oh my god, a politician was booed. Give me a effin break.

      • MinnFinn says:

US presidents (and maybe their kids too) have 24X7 Secret Service protection after they leave office for the rest of their lives.

I suppose some logistics are still being worked out around Trump Tower. Hopefully things will improve a bit but as long as The Donald has a residence there SS will be there too.

      • S says:

Only Presidents have Secret Service security for life. And, honestly, the intensity of post-Presidency security via that given to the office holder while Commander in Chief is miles apart. Just as how the protection level of a nominee vs a President Elect differs vastly. (And a POETUS has less protection than the POTUS.)

      • Trixie says:

Wow you use “SS” for Secret Service?…….Try H…tler and SS, all is fitting so well……..shudder

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Are we surprised though? He already tweeted about “safe spaces” for bigoted old Republicans. This is just par for the course from now on, no? I hate that man and I hope New York shows him the finger.

  22. RussianBlueCat says:

Sounds like a good reason for Donald and Melania to “separate” but use the excuse of not wanting to uproot Barron from school and move to Washington. Melania and Barron live in New York and Donald visits on weekends.
Melania will make “special appearances” as First Lady, but will spend the majority of time in New York.

    • QQ says:

Right, i was thinking like you are… this is the first of many excuses, This is her putting her foot down as to not wanting to spend more time than is necessary with her sugar daddy

      • Ankhel says:

Melania’s made Trump look foolish several times during this campaign, and she hasn’t been terribly supportive. He’s a petty man who loves carrying grudges even more than he loves new, young wives. Their marriage is probably dead. This is a separation.

    • EM says:

Better yet stay married and give up the presidency – just saying you don’t really want to be 3 divorces.

  23. Lindy79 says:

Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign.

I.e they’re both plotting their escape together.
In all seriousness, what bizarre phrasing for a mother and child…just add this to this whole ghastly clusterf*ck

    • alecsma says:

This is what struck me. “They’re very close” – she’s his mom! This sounds like they’re speaking of two people who friendship has deepened.

  24. Crumpet says:

Please, someone take Twitter away from Trump. *sigh*

    • Kitten says:

Because you voted for him and he’s embarrassing you?

Well, I disagree. I think we should encourage him to use Twitter often. Let him continue to show how temperamentally unfit he is.

      • SusanneToo says:

I’m eagerly awaiting his 3AM rants at any repub pol who dares to question him. Hilarity ensues.

      • Kitten says:

Me too, Susanne. Keep it coming! I know it won’t deter his supporters, but at least he’ll continue to make himself look like the lunatic he is to the rest of the world.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I’d like to see what happens when he deletes a 3am tweet after 1/20. Wouldn’t that violate the law?

      • Lightpurple says:

@MissJupitero, well, it depends but if a government-issued phone, computer, server, network are used for any message at all or if the contents concern anything job-related even sent using a non-govt issued device, then he is breaking laws

    • HappyMom says:

      I’m with you.

    • Lightpurple says:

No! Keep tweeting and arguing until he strokes out!

    • Lambda says:

He’s just getting started. Thanks for the entertainment, BTW, Crumpet. It’s not every day that the president demands apologies from a citizen. If Nixon had twitter he’d show more restraint.

  25. giulia says:

The city is a nightmare of permanent gridlock now thx to this oaf. Impossible to protect them adequately as well as sucking up police resources from where its needed elsewhere. I’m convinced this is petty revenge on Manhattan for going to hillary. He’s just like christie in bridgegate. Mouth breathing thug.

    • Lorelai says:

      It’s not even just Manhattan!

I think the reverberations will be felt in LOTS of places when JFK has to freaking close down any time he comes or goes…that is going to be a far-reaching nightmare.

Flights will be delayed, connecting flights will need to be managed…it will be an epic clusterf*ck.

  26. Jenns says:

“Melania is extremely close to Barron”

I would hope so since she’s his f**king mother.

  27. Cee says:

Both Melania and Baron look shell shocked in every photo of them. I’m sorry, but he should change schools.

  28. original kay says:

So, if this was me and my kid(s), I’d hire a private tutor and move to the White House.

I mean, money is absolutely no object here. I would be frightened almost into paralysis at the thought of anyone hurting my child, so I’d want to go to what very well may be the safest place on the planet- the White House.

Of course, I firmly believe she has no intention of being first lady, so I guess moving is redundant. She’d have to work at something if she moved I would think, in NYC she has every reason to sit on her ass and “be close to her son”.

  29. Lucy says:

I see lots of people saying they feel sorry for Melania, but I honestly believe Barron is the only one worth feeling sorry for. Melania is a grown adult, and Barron’s just a kid who didn’t choose to be born into that family, let alone be thrown into this whole situation.

    • SusanneToo says:

I don’t recall all this solicitous concern about Malia or Sasha or Chelsea or Amy or Caroline.

      • Lightpurple says:

Caroline has spent a lifetime preserving and representing a legacy. I would love to hear her views on this.

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Since NYC is primary democratic = yeah, I’d want to get my kid to where SS knows what they are doing. And the political climate is more welcoming. Certainly the private schools in DC are “on board” with politician’s children of both parties.

    • HappyMom says:

Yes, I feel sorry for him. That said, I don’t care if he’s on the autism spectrum or not-they should ALL be moving into the White House.

  30. S says:

I have sympathy for any child, and his stability and changing schools mid-year does suck, no matter how much money he has … But, we’re not talking about a normal family move. This is part of the job and, while I don’t really care, functionally, if Mrs. Trump is an active First Lady (she wouldn’t be the first not to live in the White House, though the first in modern times), it’s the security risks, massive expense and utter lack of concern for OTHERS comfort that personifies Trump and his ilk already that is the issue here.

They knew the deal when they ran. Yes, I too thought (hoped/prayed) it would never come to pass, but this is the deal. The President, and his immediate family, live in the White House, full-time. If they’d said they were getting tutors, keeping Melania and Barron out of the public spotlight (no public events or appearances) … That’s all well and fine and I’d 100% support her “parenting choice” to do that, even if it’s not exactly the norm for a First Family.

But that’s the problem … What they’re saying they will do is NOT a parenting choice. It’s putting the lives and livelihoods of MANY others at risk for their own, singular comfort; Which is literally the exact opposite of what any elected official is supposed to do.

And OF COURSE the giant hypocrisy of the same Fox News talking heads that have bashed the Obamas’ “lavish” “thoughtless” and “unnecessary” yearly family vacations as a drain on the American people. are praising the insane plan of a part-time President Elect maintaining multiple residences, including in the nation’s busiest city, all of which will need to be permanently defended at the expense, both financial and physical, of taxpayers as, “great parenting,”

  31. Merritt says:

The level of this man’s selfishness knows no bounds. It becomes clearer everyday that Melania and Barron wanted no part of being the First Family. But Trump didn’t care about what was best for Barron.

And now he is proving what people already knew and that is that he doesn’t give a damn about people. I feel sorry for the people who live or work in Manhattan because things are going to be miserable for them.

  32. Tough Cookie says:

Regarding Mar a Lago Years ago I lived in South Florida and read a lot about the history of the area. I used to pass by Mar a Lago quite a bit, this was in the 80s before the pu$$y-grabber bought it. It had been owned by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and when she died in the 70s she willed it to the US government to be used as a presidential retreat. If I remember correctly the Secret Service checked it out and said no thanks. It is just down the road from Palm Beach International Airport and directly in the flight path. The Secret Service deemed it unsafe and said security would be a nightmare. So it was deeded back to the Post estate until the p-grabber bought it. In fact when he married the future First Pu$$y at Mar a Lago there was a big fuss because he wanted a huge fireworks display and permission was denied because of the flight path…I think he wanted them to re-route the planes and they refused.
Now when he visits will be a security nightmare not to mention a disruption of air traffic and we taxpayers will foot the bill.
I did find one article and there are probably more

    http://www.wpbf.com/article/flight-paths-remain-unclear-when-trump-visits-mar-a-lago/8294806

sooooooo glad I don’t live there anymore

    • Lambda says:

      Interesting. Thank you.

    • Luca76 says:

That’s all really interesting, I still hold that whatever the issue for Marlago its better suited than midtown Manhattan for the needs of securing a First Family. We’ve got airspace issues, we’ve got major parades that would have to be rerouted , we’ve got a couple of subway hubs, we’e got a major traffic thoroughfare, we’ve got flagship stores that attract international tourists. If you’ve never walked down fifth avenue in December you really can’t conceive of how selfish of a decision this is.

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

+1,000 Palm Beach is a far cry from NYC and…Palm Beachers helped him win so…you suck it up buttercups in Palm Beach!

      • Lovely Rita says:

Actually, Hillary won Palm Beach county. As well as Broward & Miami-Dade. SE FL is heavily democratic. She also won counties around Jacksonville, Orlando, & Tampa. The sad fact is that the rest of the “red” counties came in strong. The normal “blue” counties did not get out enough of the base. As an “independent” voter who volunteered for her campaign …. The troops weren’t that well organized.

  33. JenB says:

To me this is a big deal. When was the last time a President’s school-age child and wife did not relocate with him to the White House after assuming office? And how awful for the secret service and New Yorkers.
And not a word on this to be found on the Faux News website. Several months of basically having 2 home bases for the First Family is definitely going to be costly.

  34. me says:

That’ll make it even easier for him to fool around…what women would want him is beyond me though. Why can’t Barron go to school in Washington like other president’s kids did?

  35. Bird says:

All of you speculating about the boy’s rumored challenges should cut it out. Living in NYC mom and dad’s choice. I don’t care if they used him as an excuse to stay, that doesn’t give you a license to speculate about his challenges.

    • S says:

I neither endorse, nor put any credence, into any rumors about a child. My issue is that “mom and dad” are now public servants and, as such, now have public responsibilities that outweigh personal desires. You don’t get to pick and choose the parts of the job you enjoy — the power and adulation — and abandon those you find awkward and tedious. You wanted the job, now you have to do it. ALL of it. And it’s not all fun, or easy or convenient. That’s why running for President isn’t required of all American citizens.

    • BonBon says:

Thank you. He’s 12 and it is beyond offensive.

      • Lightpurple says:

It is beyond offensive that the lives of millions of New Yorkers should be disrupted for ONE kid. Either he moves or his father should turn down the job and he should turn it down BEFORE the Electoral College votes.

      • SusanneToo says:

Spare me the crocodile tears about the poor little rich kid. There are untold numbers of kids living in homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, on the streets. I’m sure you’re all wtought up about them, right. Maybe it’s time he learned the world doesn’t revolve around trump spawn and moves to DC like all previous First Family kids. It might do him a world of good to be released from his little bubble.

      • lightpurple says:

He is NOT 12, he is 10 and the idea that all of NYC should be disrupted and tax dollars wasted for months because his parents don’t want to change his school is extremely offensive.

      • BonBon says:

What is offensive is discussing — particularly with no first hand knowledge and without consent — the mental and developmental status of a child on the internet

If you don’t see that is offensive….that tells me everything. Discuss away the inconveniences of living in a presidential city, I lived in Dallas before, during and after the W years. I have basic familiarity

But whether or not this child — 10, 12 or whatever — is on the autism spectrum or is otherwise social needs , is horrifying to see dissected as if it were the menu at a state dinner.

        I find it shameful.

      • SusanneToo says:

@ Bonbon. I have not discussed his m/d status, nor has lightpurple, nor have the majority of the posters here. You keep bringing it up to deflect from the outrageous selfishness of the trump plan which will cost taxpayers and greatly inconvenience New Yorkers. A plan never followed by previous presidents. Try responding to that.

And I don’t mind saying that barron trump is no more special or important than millions of other children whose lives are uprooted through no fault of their own.

      • Shark Bait says:

I think BonBon is just saying it’s a little gross the speculate whether Barron has autism. I don’t think she is trying to make excuses for them. I hate that they will be causing all these issues by staying in New York, but the blame falls squarely on Donny and Melania. I’m sure it is just her excuse to stay in NYC and not move to the white house, no need to try to find any other reason for it. Barron is in the spotlight even more than before, so the speculating is just going to get worse. Some of the rumors and things said about Sasha and Malia were awful and I don’t wish that on Barron either. He can’t help his dad is a mega douche. The three grown children have proven to be awful all on their own!

      • BonBon says:

I responded to Bird affirming his/her post about the inappropriateness of discussing the child’s speculated mental / developmental issues. The rest of you jumped in on the thread ignoring and dismissing the inappropriateness subject matter and acting as if my concern about same was ill advised or misplaced.

        Neither are true.

But you joined a thread where the inappropriateness of speculation was the subject. Ignoring or dismissing the inappropriateness is only one rung better than participating.

      • lightpurple says:

@SusanneToo, thank you. You are correct and the attempt to shame me for something I have not done is quite amusing. Now, shall we again discuss how the father should not have applied for a job if he couldn’t comply with the job requirements?

    • MellyMel says:

Mom and Dad’s choice? No, mom, dad & son should ALL live in the White House like every first family before them. It is tradition. The ppl of NYC shouldn’t be punished for this family clearly not planning ahead about what to do with their son’s education.

  36. Pandy says:

The kid is 10 – he’s not finishing senior year or something. Good luck with this bunch! Alrho if he does have a disability then I grudgingly support his not moving. But the cost and impropriety is huge/uge

  37. The Original G says:

Well, I’m empathetic to the security issue and costs, but, I really don’t give a crap what the wife/husband of any politician does.

I really don’t understand why the spouse of head of state becomes some sort of indentured servant of the state as well. So far it’s always been a woman. A woman that no one actually votes for. I get that there are “hostess” type duties that need to be performed but can’t we leave this to the professional event planners and interior designers who really do the work anyway and stop reinforcing the helpful wifey stereotype?

    • S says:

But it isn’t about hostess duties; it’s about protection. We have decided that the spouses and children of our leader are at risk due to the immenseness of the job. We protect their lives not only for their own sakes, or as a matter of form, but because the leader of the most powerful country on earth could be comprised and be induced to do great harm to the world if they are at risk. If this was about Mrs Trump choosing not to attend a State Dinner or other matter of protocol, than I’d agree wholeheartedly that she wasn’t the one elected and, even if outside of norms, that refusal is a non-story. Instead, this is about immense financial strain, both on taxpayer money, and general commerce in one of the world’s largest commercial centers. Not to mention personal hardship for the NYPD, the million or so Americans who live in the immediate vicinity of Trump Tower, the hundreds of millions who fly through the NYC-area airports annually … And on and on. Washington, D.C. and the White House were literally DESIGNED with the protection of the President and his family in mind. That they live there is not just some archaic symbolism; it’s a practical, functional reality that allows individuals to balance the 24/7 job of the Presidency, with protecting the First Family. It’s the height of selfish entitlement to believe that the Trump family’s personal desires supersede the good of an entire city, or nation. That they don’t gave a flying flip about anyone else is exactly the problem with a Trump Presidency in a nutshell.

      • Lightpurple says:

The White House has a bunker; Trump Tower does not.

      • The Original G says:

Well, the same can be said of any relation of the President’s and many other Cabinet positions. In fact, it’s only the “wife” of the President that is presumed to be a possession of the state in this way.

The issue of security and restoration of normal commerce to the NYC area has to be addressed but there isn’t only one way to do that.

    • S says:

No, the same can’t be said of “any relation.” The threat of a President’s spouse or, even more particularly, his minor children, being kidnapped and used as hostages, or tortured for information, is far greater than his sister or cousin. You think that Chelsea and Roger were/are on the same emotional and access level for Bill?

There’s also a reason why we don’t let Presidents refuse Secret Service protection. Because, as President, their life is deemed more valuable than the average American citizen’s; that’s a decision we (collective “we”) made for the good of the nation, not for the comfort or convenience of the specific individual who occupies the office.

  38. hey-ya says:

…”not close to his father..” who are you to judge..he stood right next to Don when he gave his acceptance speech…good for Melania that she’s trying to soften the transition for a 10 yo child…anyone who took beefs about secret service costs for Flotus seriously should stick to watching scandal…

    • Luca76 says:

It’s not Secret Service costs. It’s the costs to the municipality of NYC. Revenue lost by local businesses. Wages lost by workers that depend on commissions. It costs the Port Authority 100,000 $ just to shut down the airspace for one Presidential visit and Trump’s planning on doing that every weekend GMAFB.

    • Jaded says:

The body language between Trump and Barron says it all. The poor kid literally looks like he can’t stand being touched. No eye contact, no smiling, nothing. Many people with experience in LD (learning disabilities) as teachers, therapists, etc. have commented that he could very well be autistic, which would explain Trump’s wackdoodle anti-vaxxer stance. Moving would be extremely traumatic for Barron. Just another reason to loathe his father – putting an autistic child through that sort of gong show indicates yet again what a selfish, narcissistic prick he is.

      • BonBon says:

Please stop with the rumor morngerimg regarding this child. You don’t know and even if you did…..it’s offensive as crap.

Those who claim the moral, high ground on behalf of humanity should do the same for a 12 year old boy and cut out this crap about his developmental status.

For the love of god…….who does that???????

      • The Original G says:

        + eleventy billion.

      • lightpurple says:

@BonBon, please get his age correct. He is not 12. He is 10. And most of us are concerned about the constitutional violations, the cost to the taxpayers and the upset this will cause the city of New York, all of which you seem just delighted to support.

      • BonBon says:

You see more offended at my misquoting his age by 2 years than you are at internet rumor mongering about his mental / developmental status

        How sad is that?

I find discussion of this child’s status as it relates on his mental / developmental / learning status to be horrifying and offensive. Talk about the rest of it, but STFU about this boys status.

      • Kitten says:

BonBon I think you’ve made your point. I tend to agree with you that kids should be off-limits but are your redundant posts shaming other posters for a few speculatory comments really necessary?

You might not intend it to come across this way but it really does read like deflection.

      • BonBon says:

Kitten…the repetitiveness of my “shaming” doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the repetitiveness of other posts on here when it comes to this political season.

If I’ve irritated some with my adamant insistenence that internet speculation about any childs mental / developmental status is just plain wrong, I don’t mind that at all.

Lets face it….others have deflected AWAY from the inappropriateness on just about every post I did.

        So be it.

      • jwoolman says:

His father is a pathological narcissist. He might not want to be touched by Donald for good reason. Doesn’t mean anything about how he relates to other people, other than making him naturally wary.

All of Trump’s children display odd body language with him, especially the females.

      • lightpurple says:

@BonBon, if you have decided to become the child’s biggest defender in the world, then you should get the basics right. I haven’t speculated about the kid’s “status” at all so please keep your obscene and insulting directives to yourself and remain civil to those of us who have been civil to you, thank you. And I am going to point out that you have yet to address the actual issue of the thread even once – the problems this will cause for the people of NYC and the taxpayers.

    • lightpurple says:

I have beefs with the complete disrespect for our Constitution and the people of New York. This kid is NOT the crown prince of anything and if his parents did not want him to move to Washington DC in January 2017, his father should not have sought the job. If he doesn’t want to go now, his father should resign the position IMMEDIATELY before the Electoral College votes.

  39. Bee says:

This seems to me an act of incredible contempt for the symbolic seat of American Power.

  40. Apples says:

I agree and like her priorities – a mother is a mother above all. I don’t have children and don’t want to become a mom but I admire women who look out for their children first.

    • lightpurple says:

Sure, at the expense of 8.4 million New Yorkers.

    • Pandy says:

This IS a Trump we are talking about, even if by marriage. I personally think Melania signed on to be a rich trophy wife – lunches, blow outs, massage and facials and lots of shopping. She didn’t sign on to be a working FLOTUS and really has no clue on how it work and no want to do so. I’m betting Barron is an excuse for her to not leave the lifestyle she’s be come accustomed to.

      • Carmen says:

I think that after her meeting with Michelle Obama, she realized that she is simply not up to the job, and staying in NY is her way of getting off the hook.

  41. LawBabe says:

I think I can get over any political bias and give a pass to a Mom wanting her 10 year old boy to be able to finish out the school year.

    • Janet R says:

I am picturing the howls of outrage should any previous president have done that. Especially a Democrat. It’s part of what being president means – you move your life to Washington.

    • lightpurple says:

I can’t get over the cost to the American taxpayer or the inconsideration of the neighbors. If she didn’t want to move the kid in the middle of the school year, her husband should not have applied for the job.

    • steerpike says:

Trump Tower is going to be a prime target for terrorism. Having the first lady and her child live there after the secret service has already said that it is impossible to secure, is putting many other lives at risk.

  42. joannie says:

I still find it hard to believe Americans voted in “Sideshow Bob” as president. Its what happens when people become apathetic and dont vote. Its a change and I think now that he’s won give him the benefit of the doubt. He may surprise everyone and do an ok job.

    • S says:

The “give him a chance” mentality is insane. Has he not shown us who he is?

Now, on the other hand, I certainly hope I’m the one who is wrong, and I’ll be happy to eat all my words should he actually not do all the terrible awful things he’s promised to as our President.

I don’t want him to fail, but pretending this is a fresh start and we have no idea what he’s going to do is just ignorance … And dangerous ignorance at that.

Democracy, free press, civil rights … These things don’t go away in an upheaval no one can miss. They are chipped away at slowly, until you don’t even notice they’re gone until it’s way, way too late.

      • joannie says:

I tend to agree but the reality of being president and spouting off in an election I dont really think he thought he’d win are very different. I’d rather give him the benefit of the doubt. Hes a very accomplished man despite his awful personality. What choice does anyone have now? He won!

      • lightpurple says:

@joannie, a very accomplished man? He inherited great wealth and Manhattan real estate. Sliding out of a rich vagina is not an accomplishment.

      • joannie says:

Lol @ rich vagina. Its what he did with his wealth. I hate to say this but he is accomplished. Unfortunately he’s now your grand poobah!

      • SusanneToo says:

His accomplishments? Let’s see, he cheated small businesses that did work for him. They were told to sue if they were unhappy with getting pennies on the dollar rather than the originally agreed amount. Some went out of business as a result. He defrauded students with his trump phoneyversity and just settled for $25 million(too cowardly to testify). He plundered the trump foundation charity to pay his personal legal bills and buy $20,000.00 ugly portraits of himself. He declared bankruptcy six times. He left his investors holding the bag for the failure of the trump casinos. He then used the losses at the trump casinos(all losses by the investors)as write-offs on his personal taxes, thus paying no taxes for two decades.
I’m sure lightpurple, kitten and others can list some of his other accomplishments for you, but this is my contribution.

      • SusanneToo says:

@joannie I forgot to add that he put “grab ’em by the pu$$y” into the vernacular. That’s an accomplishment, I guess. And ogling ten year old girls as future dates. And bursting into the dressing room of half naked teenage beauty contestants. Don’t remember Barack Obama being able to accomplish that either before or after presidency. And five children by three different women. Wow, what an accomplishment. And trying out the next wife before the previous one was out the door. What an accomplished man!

      • S says:

@joannie The math seems to show that even if you take his stated wealth at face value, which there is some pretty strong evidence to discredit, he’d have been better off, financially speaking, by simply sticking his inheritance in an index fund than via all the “huge deals” he’s made. That certainly debunks the idea that he’s got this fabulous business mind. As does the fact that his “genius deals” have resulted in six bankrupt companies, including a casino business in an era where every other casino brand was making extreme profits and Trump was losing millions. It’s also indisputable that his current business portfolio relies 100% on branding, a.k.a. selling the Trump name, which basically makes him the “super business genius” of Kim Kardashian, Bethany Frankel or any other reality star. Heck, at least Bethany Frankel has an actual, if much maligned, product. You could certainly, and credibly, argue it takes charisma and skill to leverage your name as Trump has, but showmanship does not equal actual, practical business acumen.

      • lightpurple says:

Yes, Joannie, he used his wealth to sexually assault vaginas. No, not my poobah. Yours perhaps, but never mine.

    • Tate says:

There is no giving him a chance. Even if I had the inclination to after the election, that was quickly wiped away by the white supremacists he is appointing to his cabinet.

    • Lightpurple says:

The man is not going to do an okay job. He has already violated ethics laws.

    • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

I can’t speak for other commenters but I’ve been calling and writing local reps, planning to attend marches and protests. The backlash has had a pretty dramatic effect here in Massachusetts: http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2016/11/19/massachusetts-becomes-a-hub-of-resistance-after-donald-trumps-win

Just because we’re stuck with him, doesn’t mean we have to stay quiet about it.

      • joannie says:

Nor should you! Keep it up too. Dont forget the rest of the world is inflicted with this creep as well.

      • lightpurple says:

@Kitten, I am furious about how silent our governor has been. Ryan’s “health plan,” which Trump will sign cuts significant funding for Boston Medical Center, Mass General, Brigham & Women’s, Dana Farber, Mass Eye & Ear, Children’s, Beth Israel-Deaconess, Tufts Medical, BayState Medical, and UMass Medical. Our hospitals are some of our largest employers. Not to mention most of these are internationally famous teaching and research hospitals – Ryan is planning to screw the health care future for everyone. And Baker, whose background is in health care, remains silent.

And my whole family will be marching on the Common come January 21. I think I know half of Pantsuit Nation.

Don’t drag Sideshow Bob into this. I WISH it was Sideshow Bob in the White House instead of this lunatic.

  43. M.A.F. says:

Hold up. He’s in the 4th grade? I would pegged him for a 6th grader.

    • jwoolman says:

He’s had a pretty recent growth spurt. He was much smaller last summer. My brother was 6 ft tall by the age of 12. So I can believe Barron is somewhere between 10 and 11

    • Jessica says:

I thought that you meant The Human Cheeto.

  44. JRenee says:

Completes stage setting for Ivanka to perform in 1st lady role because of course, Melania won’t be there.

  45. nicegirl says:

I hope little Barron is ok. If Melania is close to her son and he has a crappy dad, then she can make the difficult choices a mom has to make sometimes when she marries a lurdo. She would not be the first mom who has been faced with choosing her child over her husband.

But – if she fully supports her husband and his reign of terror- she should have been making plans for Barron all along. Surely she is aware of her husband’s idiosyncrasies and preferences versus her son’s needs and has enough resources to plan accordingly. As a mom, that is the job. Parent. Mother. Get it done.

I am a mom and I understand – moving children to a new school mid year would be hard – but I think rich folks sure do have it easier than us regular folks – I think they can probably send their son to any school they wish, provide him with top notch counselors and hire the most sensitive, well educated professionals to tutor their child in house also, if necessary.

Mr Trump signed up for the most important job in America, maybe on the planet. His wife will need to make accommodations.

  46. Nimbolicious says:

He is definitely autustic according to a friend who is in a position to confirm that. What really bugs, in addition to the f#%*ton of other things that enrage me, is that this is being kept under wraps. Hiding his son’s challenges is just such a backward approach for the leader of the free world to take — it’s an endorsement of shame, really. And tragic, because autism awareness and research would be an authentic cause for Melania to take up that could help millions of parents and children.

    • mayamae says:

I get what you’re saying, but what have Donald or Melania ever done that even hints they care about millions of parents or children?

I don’t wish to speculate on a ten year old, but I don’t for a second think this child is on the spectrum. If he was, Trump would have this kid hidden away somewhere in the middle of nowhere. He certainly wouldn’t nickname him “Little Donald” – which is the very height of narcissism, considering he already has a little Donald. Trump’s affection for his children are only because they are extensions of himself. They have no value to him as actual people.

There’s a reason why he ignores Tiffany. She’s followed the Ivanka path of facial plastic surgery to appear more “perfect”. I almost wonder if he questions paternity, but is too vain to let it be known he couldn’t satisfy Marla. If I were Tiffany, I would be DNA testing myself. And if I were blessed to NOT be a Trump, I’d hold a press conference and tell the world. Meet Tiffany Maples. Then I’d write a future NY Times bestseller, “Not Ivanka: The Other Trump Daughter”.

    • Shark Bait says:

If Barron does indeed have autism, then the speculation from the public will only get worse over the next few years. It sounds like a John Travolta situation.

    • BonBon says:

Then your friend is a class act. NOT.

Please just stop. STOP. HES A CHILD. STop speculating about him on the internet.

It’s disgusting that anyone thinks this is OK,

  47. Cerys says:

I can sympathise up to a point with Melania not wanting to uproot her son during a school year. The Obamas will be staying on in Washington so their youngest can finish school.
However I think there is probably more to it than this. It just seems to reinforce the view that Trump never expected to win and wasn’t prepared for being president. It may also be a reflection on the separate lives most people think the Trumps lead.
My real sympathies are with the citizens of New York who are having to live with the increased security and with the US taxpayers who will be funding it all.

  48. DIRTNAP says:

I understand the argument of “being a mother first” and “easing the transition for your child.” As a parent, I get that. However, an opportunity to teach Barron – about the bigger picture, about how our actions affect others like a ripple in a pond, about how sometimes you have to sacrifice your own needs and wants for the greater good – is being lost with his staying in New York. We should all be teaching our children this, and I am disappointed when someone wants to be a leader but then does not set the example that a leader should.

  49. Patty says:

Ugh. This pisses me off to no end. It’s another example of Trump’s selfishness. You are the President-Elect. Your wife is going to be first lady. It’s time to suck it up and make some sacrifices, as if one can call living in The White House a sacrifice. You become President, you and your family move to the White House, it’s what you do.

Sasha, Malia, Chelsea, etc all made the move mid school year. Barron goes to a 50K a year private school anyway, they can easily enroll him in a ritzy DC school. I just cannot with this man and he hasn’t even been inaugurated yet. It is going to be a very long four (or god forbid 8 years).

  50. trtgfc17 says:

Hope I’m not the only one that sees it…marital problems!

    • MellyMel says:

Ha! You wrote your comment before I did but we are having the same thoughts. Somethings fishy and it has nothing to do with this boy’s education.

      • Tourmaline says:

Don’t think its anything new though. I’m sure this couple has been living pretty separate lives for a decade or more. Probably as soon as she got pregnant and her lovely husband started grabbing other women like there was no tomorrow. There’s a reason she barely made an appearance during the campaign.

  51. MellyMel says:

    I smell a separation…

  52. Sage says:

More evidence he never thought he would win the election…lol.

  53. Guesto says:

This poor kid deserves all the pity going. Please stop with this glib ‘well, Malia and Sasha and Chelsea and Amy’ comparisons. They all had good, decent parents to protect them.

This 10yr old kid has no one to protect him and is very likely doomed to a shitty, troubled, unfulfilled life, thanks to his disgustingly ignorant and venal parents.

    • steerpike says:

This 10 yr old kid will always have plenty of money and is likely to have the best of care all of his life. I am the mother of an autistic son and I am terrified what will happen to him after I die. Unlike the Trumps, my husband and I aren’t billionaires. I have nightmares about what will happen to adults with autism or other disabilities in Trump’s America. I honestly can’t work up too much pity for Trump’s son.

      • BonBon says:

Please, You wouldn’t want your sons issues discussed by strangers on the internet. Don’t contribute to this.

If HRC was all about women and children…..then please don’t discuss this boy like he is celebitchy fodder.

        He is not.

      • steerpike says:

Don’t tell me not to contribute to this. Trump is creating a world in which my son is likely to end up homeless and hungry and I will say whatever I want about it. If he wanted to protect his son then he should think about other people’s children.

  54. Betsy says:

  56. abbie normal says:

From what posters are writing, it sounds as though NYC is already a mess before factoring in the Trumps. If the parents feel it is in his best interests to finish the school year there, let’s have compassion for the little boy.
And, yes, I would have written the same for the Obama girls…now pretty young ladies.

    • SusanneToo says:

Except it wasn’t necessary to write the same for the Obama girls. Their parents understood the responsibilities of the job they signed up for.

      • jwoolman says:

The Obamas also discussed the whole thing as a family before Obama ran for President. The whole family was on board with it and knew what would happen if he won. In contrast, Melania clearly didn’t want to be FLOTUS and thought the whole idea of Donald running was bad. I doubt the child was consulted at all.

Plus Donald himself absolutely did not expect to win. He was shocked and still is. He had no plan for transition, hence the chaos of people falling all over themselves to get jobs in his Administration. Donald had never planned to live in the a White House. Ever. He and his campaign people didn’t bother finding out anything relevant for the transition. Usually candidates start making contingency plans s at least a year in advance. There is even an organization that helps with such planning, by nobody contacted them.

    • Luca76 says:

Have you been to NYC? Fifth avenue is congested and traffic is a ‘mess’ because people, tourists from all over the world are shopping. Spending millions of dollars on luxury items. Looking at famous X-mas displays at Rockefeller Centre, Bergdorffs, Tiffanys, spending money at Hotels, restaurants, jewelry stores, salons, etc all within walking distance of Trump Towers are now at a standstill because everybody needs to have compassion for one 10 year old. Drumpf is supposed to be everyone’s president and actually do things to I-M-P-R-O-V-E the economy not derail the local businesses to suit one child’s needs.

    • lightpurple says:

Let’s have compassion for the people of New York City.

  57. Jayna says:

Trump flew home on his private jet every night during the campaign. He never once stayed on the road during campaigning. He liked being at his penthouse at night. I don’t see him living full time in the White House. I read that maybe he would stay there during the week and fly back to NYC for the weekends. I don’t think the only problem is Melania for the rest of the school year. Does anyone really believe Trump will live in the White House full time? I don’t.

  58. Tough Cookie says:

The kid has an entire floor to himself in Manhattan. No wonder he doesn’t want to move.

    • SusanneToo says:

Sounds like such a close, loving family.

    • jwoolman says:

The whole floor for the kid seems like a protective measure. I think Melania spends a lot of time there also. Look up “narcissistic parents” sometime and read about the horror show they provide for their kids. Remember the second debate? You were seeing Donald stomping around the stage trying to keep his rage in. That’s what happens with malignant narcissists when their lies are countered by facts and proof. They get very, very angry. He knew exploding wasn’t an option in front of millions of tv viewers so he tried to hold it in. He looked like he wanted to pound on Hillary. But at home, he doesn’t have to hold that rage in.

That’s why I don’t want to go after Melania even after she talks lock-step with her husband’s awful opinions. The cost of crossing him, especially in public, is too great. This is not a normal situation. Donald is not normal. He is dangerous at all levels. people have to get that clearly through their heads.

You are confused. I’ve supported not rumor mongering about a young boys mental / developmental issues.

I didn’t vote for Trump. Show me a single post I’ve supported DONALD. You can’t.

      But leave Baron alone.

      • SusanneToo says:

I haven’t said a word about his mental or developmental status. You’re the one that harps on that, refusing to defend or condemn the ridiculous plan to keep him in NY at great expense to taxpayers and great inconvenience to New Yorkers. He’s no more special than any other child who has to move because of a parent’s job. And that’s what this thread is about if you look at the title of it.
There are over 300 replies on this thread with a small minority related to your favored topic. Address those posters instead of the majority talking about the main issue.

      • lightpurple says:

Leave the people of NYC alone!

  60. Kate says:

Yeah well , I think it’s very weird and strange for Melania and her son Barron to stay in New York and not move into the white house. What kind of first Lady does that. She thinks she is better than everyone else. Michelle Obama is a good mother as well as a great First Lady , so who does Melania think she is that she uses her son as an excuse to not move to the White House after Donald is sworn in as President. What a snob, go back to your country Melania, and learn some manners as well as take a class to learn English. No U.S. Presidents wife has ever said they were not moving to the White House. What is the real reason Melania doesn’t want to move to the White House?? I think she is only with Donald for the money and social status.

    • jwoolman says:

Truman’s wife spent most of her time in Missouri. She was very uncomfortable in DC.

      • norah says:

well that was more than 50 years ago at least – we have had presidents after truman so i think ford/reagan/bush/bush/clinton/ike/kennedy/nixon/carter and pres obama all managed to live in the white house for most of the time. and both sasha and malia were around the same age as barron trump and funnily enough they do have schools in washington dc

      • lightpurple says:

But Bess Truman didn’t plunk herself down in a tower in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities.

  61. BooBooLaRue says:

I apologize if someone already wrote this, but IF and when she moves to the White House, I can only begin to imagine the redecorating with all the gold leaf and naked cherubs and crappy art and faux Louis XVI furniture they will want the taxpayers to foot the bill for. . .

  62. Christin says:

Amy Carter was 9 when her father won. The family moved from Georgia, and she attended public schools in DC. How things change.

  63. jwoolman says:

I hope Melania and Barron live anywhere but the White House. Donald is dangerous in so many ways. Being trapped with him in a relatively small space is a very bad idea especially when he’s under so much stress. We have no idea what Barron’s needs are or what he and his mother have experienced with The Donald. If Melania wants to keep her child in NYC for now, so be it.

I’m tired of the twofer concept for POTUS and FLOTUS. Why should a woman be kept hostage for four years when she didn’t even agree to her husband running for President? The spouse of a President should be allowed to live a separate life. It’s just wrong to force her to be something she doesn’t want to be. If the government wants to have such costly protection for her, that’s just the cost of operating the government. Same with the costs of travel for the President and family. Suck it up yourself, people. Keeping them all sequestered in the White House is wrong. If we were talking about restrictions on a woman in Saudi Arabia, the response would be different.

The argument that non-rich kids have to suck it up and follow their crazy dangerous parent anywhere is irrelevant. You don’t refuse medical care to your child because so many children lack it. You don’t refuse to send them to good schools if you can afford it because so many other children are stuck in bad ones. You do want you can with what you have.

Buy a dozen fewer weapons of mass destruction to pay for the extra protection costs. Really, our government wastes so much money on destructive things, the cost of protecting the President’s wife and child outside the White House is a drop in the bucket in comparison. They will have to figure out how to minimize disruption around the building and if a move to Florida is better. I would say that they need to rethink real security needs. But keeping Donald far, far away from his family is a Good Idea.

    • SusanneToo says:

Divorce him then. There are surely plenty of secrets Melania can hold over him. Take one of the estates outside NYC and be protected. donald can then grab pu$$y in the WH. Everybody’s happy.
Regarding your third paragraph, have the trumps stated that they will cover ALL the costs of their staying in NY? I don’t think so.

      • LinaLamont says:

        🙂
Seriously, though…@jwoolman, according to your logic, we shouldn’t have to pay for any protection for FLOTUS and kid.
“I’m tired of the twofer concept for POTUS and FLOTUS. Why should a woman be kept hostage for four years when she didn’t even agree to her husband running for President? It’s wrong to force us to pay for her/them.
It’s wrong to force Manhattan to be closed down for 4 years. We didn’t marry OR vote for him.
Do you know that she didn’t agree to Trump running? What inside info do you have?

      • norah says:

Melania will never divorce trump – she can’t and won’t – the man is unpredictable and will make sure her son is taken away from her – he is that type.

      • SusanneToo says:

Marla managed to get away with Tiffany. Melania may be in a stronger position than she was six months ago. She must know some dirt on him that he and his handlers don’t want coming out at this point. May be a bargaining chip.

  64. Andrea says:

Isn’t is expected for her to do First Lady duties? I saw above someone said Lady Truman spent little time in DC, but did she do events, charities, duties meeting with dignitaries etc? Has there also ever been a president who spent little time in the white house? This sounds more and more like a disaster each day that transpires..

    • norah says:

It is a disaster – the new york mayor has said that they will be spending 1 million dollars per day for trump and wants the fed govt to heltp them out – not to mention the inconvenience of having streets blocked for the next 4 years – whether she agreed or not she is the first lady – so does mean she can just stroll in when she feels like it? and also she is planning on renovating the wh with her own designer? why wd she do that if she isnt going to be there for a while. All i can say is that if Mrs Obama had done this they wd have been non stop insults but because she has 1 kid everyone is giving her a pass. All Presidents have been in the WH esp in the modern era now the trumps want to be different?

    • lightpurple says:

The First Lady bit has been handled by daughters and nieces in the past but those presidential wives who chose to live elsewhere did not choose to live on top of a tower smack in the middle of one of the busiest neighborhoods of one of the world’s largest cities. Even most presidential homes tend to not be smack in the middle of a major city.
