Martha Plimpton organized a bus for 28 people to protest Baby Fists’ inaugural

I rarely get the chance to write about Martha Plimpton, which is too bad because I absolutely love her. Her guest appearances on The Good Wife were basically the reason to watch the show. She was consistently excellent on Raising Hope. She’s been doing great work in film, TV and stage for decades, and she’ currently on The Real O’Neals (is that show still on?). And she’s very politically active too. Martha plans to protest, in Washington DC, for Emperor Baby Fists’ inauguration on Friday. She’s putting her money where her mouth is too – she’s making accommodations for 28 people on a bus from New York to Washington.

Martha Plimpton is making sure everyone she knows in New York City can go to the Women’s March on Washington, DC, if they want to. She’s organizing a bus to and from the event, carrying 28 people, as well as sleeping accommodations for 15 on a pay-what-you-can basis.

The actress-activist is on the board of directors for A is For, a nonprofit dedicated to women’s reproductive rights, and she told Page Six of Saturday’s coming event, “Everyone marching, whether in DC or their home states, is sending a message to the incoming administration and its supporters . . . that we are watching and we are ready to defend ourselves and our neighbors from the suffering they intend to inflict on the American people,” adding, “This is the beginning of a long period of resistance for which a diverse America is well-prepared.”

[From Page Six]

You can see the website for A is for here. They’re a pro-reproductive rights organization, obviously. Other celebrities associated with the organization include woke-ass Michael Shannon, John Lithgow, Michelle Williams, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and more.

Personally, I’m not planning on marching or going to Washington (which is a four-hour-plus drive for me). It’s not that I don’t believe in marching or the Women’s March – I applaud all of the men and women who will be doing their part to disrupt the inauguration and have their voices heard. I just think there are lots of ways to protest and disrupt and resist, and many women feel the same way – NY Mag’s The Cut did a series of interviews with women who are not planning to protest, some of whom say it’s because there’s not a coherent message beyond “Trump is the worst.” Which I understand too. I guess those women are waiting for Trump, Pence and Ryan to outlaw abortion in the dead of the night before all hell really breaks loose.

Bless you, Martha. And to anyone going to the march, this sage advice is from a friend’s Facebook feed. Godspeed, all of you!

“If you’re going to DC, Boston Los Angeles, SF, etc. to take part in a peaceful gathering, here are some good tips.
Keep your cool. Do not offer personal information to unsolicited requests. Stay to the edges of the crowd. Have a meet-up-if-you-get-separated plan. Do not count on your cellphones for this purpose. Write important information on your forearm in Sharpie. (Emergency contact, drug allergies, etc.) It will wash off eventually. In fact, bring a Sharpie with you to share with others for this purpose.
Stay hydrated and never pass up an opportunity to use a toilet. Wear the right shoes and don’t carry anything you can’t lose. LISTEN to the energy and calmly leave the vicinity if you have any doubts about anything. (These are intended to be peaceful gatherings but there have been intimations that infiltrators will try to incite violence and make it look like the protestors caused it. Use your own judgment on this one.)
Please copy and paste to share. I know a lot of you are planning to take part in these events in DC and your hometowns. We all need you to return home safely.”

I have been to many marches, rallies, and events over the years and my advice is to pack some food. Trying purchase food during a large gathering is a nightmare.

Also, the Smithsonian museums will be open if you need a use the bathroom. But don’t use the one on the entrance level, the line will be crazy. Depending on the museum, it will have an upper or lower floor, and restrooms on those floors will have a shorter line.

If you are attending, look for me. My sign reads, “Say YES to Feminism, Say NO to Fascism.”

Love you, Martha. You are on my list of the people that I will support and watch on film and TV. Bless you.

    • Tris says:

      Amazing advice, thanks for posting.

Maybe I’ll see her there! I’m going because I need to be able to tell my future grandkids I said NO to Orange Hitler.

  3. SM says:

She seems so cool and agree that she along with Christine Baransky was the best part of the good wife. Much more compelling that that wooden faced Julianna. I still think the show ended because she was impossible to work with

I love Martha! And although she did benefit at the beginning of her career from nepotism (as so many of them do), she is really talented and seems like a really good person.

March on! Will be marching here in Boston Saturday. SAVE THE ACA!

  5. Erinn says:

Love her. She was so so amazing on Raising Hope too – Virginia and Burt forever.

  6. Mrs.Curious says:

I hope the ratings suck, that would hurt his ego.

  7. Who says says:

I am going to the March in Chicago ,but there are 10 buses going to D.C. from my community, a local group organized the whole thing. My weather app says it is suppose to rain on Friday in DC and be sunny for the March on Saturday. It must be Divine intervention.

  8. Eric says:

Celebitchy staff do not need to attend Emperor Zero’s protest day on Saturday. You all have been giving it to him since before he was elected and I suspect you’ll keep up the great work of keeping an eye on Orange Julius Caesar for the next two years before he’s thrown out of his “presidency.”
Never forget! King Jofferey met his maker too.

  9. minx says:

    Love Martha!

  10. Lucy2 says:

Love her! She is such a talented actor.

I can’t go to the march but I am with it in spirit. For everyone going, thank you! And stay safe.

  11. lightpurple says:

I said it on a thread yesterday but I’m going to repeat it. If you are planning to march, register so the organizers have a better count to give the news media and city organizers so they have adequate security and facilities.

  12. Sadezilla says:

I live in DC, so I feel like I have to go or I will forever regret it. I hate crowds, but everyone has to do what he/she/ze can, so to the March I go! I have my Nasty Woman shirt, but I need to line up a pussy hat and a sign. And thanks Celebitches for the tips. This is my first protest, so I appreciate the helpful info. And I did register!

  13. Aims says:

I live on the other side of the country , so raise some hell for me!

  14. Arpeggi says:

Honnest question for all American commentors: how do you feel about the marches happening in other countries Saturday? I know that one is planned in Mtl in solidarity and some of my friends are planning on going. I dunno, I guess it can be a good thing for expats, but in someways it feels a bit like appropriation to me; while it’ll definitively won’t be true everywhere, my country is likely not going to suffer much from his presidency. Besides, I don’t think that the Orange One cares about foreigners being against him and his followers love the fact that he’s terrifying the rest of the world…

Anyway, I’m planning on giving to PP and to suscribe to the WaPo, it might do more actual good.

    • Christin says:

He will likely continue claiming vast crowds pouring into D.C. are all for HIM, so any gatherings *anywhere* else should help show the level of concern.

    • Petrichor says:

I live in Canada, and I’m planning on attending my local march. Trump may not much care, but it’s also a message to our Prime Minister, who I fear is too willing to play nice and shows every indication of being bulldozed in his dealings with Trump.

      • Lacia Can says:

I too live in Canada but I can’t find a march in my area so no go. :(. It’ll probably be really cold that day, so maybe it wouldn’t be that well attended anyway.

Trudeau shuffled his cabinet the other day and someone said that the people added made a stark contrast to trump’s people – young, female, poc. The way it was said implied that it was a deliberate statement being made by Trudeau. Idk if that’s wishful thinking or not, but take hope. He can’t very well say that he refuses to work with trump!

      • Arpeggi says:

That’s a good point, I hadn’t thought of it. It could also be a good way to remind the ppl running to replace Harper that a good chunk of us don’t want immigrants to pass a test on “Canadian values” and crap like that.

  15. adastraperaspera says:

I will be in DC with my wife and daughter to protest this travesty and begin the fight for his impeachment and the rise of a new, truly representative, progressive US administration. Thanks to Celebitchy for using this forum to warn us of the rise of global fascism. Never stop this important work!

  16. John Wayne Lives says:

I’m going in Denver and my sign says “I defy you” with Cheeto Benito in a crossed out red circle.
