Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter dies after accidental strangulation

After spending more than an day at Phoenix’s St. Joe’s hospital, Mike Tyson’s daughter Exodus Tyson was declared dead at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday by the hospital. 4-year-old Exodus was found hanging from a treadmill cord on Monday morning by her 7-year-old brother. When Exodus was found at around 10:30 a.m. local time, her mother attempted to do CPR before emergency services arrived.

Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter has died, Usmagazine.com has confirmed.

“I was just advised by investigators that Exodus Tyson was pronounced deceased at 11:45 a.m. today at the hospital,” a rep for the Phoenix Police Department told Us in a statement Tuesday. “Our sympathies go out to the family.”

The boxer’s daughter was on life support and in critical condition after being found by her 7-year-old brother hanging from a treadmill cord, according to Fox News, which first reported the story.

Exodus was playing near the exercise equipment while her mother was cleaning in a separate room at 10:30 Monday morning. The mom sent the brother to look for her. After finding her in distress, he alerted his mother, who found Exodus on a treadmill with what has been described as a cable around her neck, according to police, who call it a “tragic accident.”

She immediately took the cable off her daughter, called 911 and began performing CPR. Exodus was taken to St. Joe’s Hospital.

Tyson, 42, flew into Arizona from Las Vegas after hearing of the incident. He was seen entering the hospital Tuesday morning.

[From Us Weekly]

I looked up Mike Tyson’s biography to see if I could find the name of Exodus’s mother. All I found was that Tyson had not married Exodus’s mother, and she remains unnamed in media reports. Tyson had four children: Exodus joined Mikey Lorna (born 1990) and Miguel Leon (born 2002, most likely the brother who found Exodus) as three out of four known children. Tyson also has two children with his second wife, a daughter named Rayna (born 1996) and a son named Amir (born 1997). Considering Mike Tyson flew into Phoenix as soon as he heard, I would suspect he was there for his daughter’s death. Our prayers are with the family at this time of their devastating loss.

So sad. I know he was married at one point to Michael Steele’s (chairman of the RNC) sister-but I’m not sure if she’s Exodus’ mother or not. Just such a tragic story!

Why can’t people just leave their condolences without saying how they don’t like/care for tyson…this is a terrible thing to happen to him and his family or any parent for that matter. I’m certain no one would pass him on the street and say i don’t like you,….but sorry for your loss. Just leave your condolences if you wish and keep it moving and save those type of comments for another day.

    Rest in Peace Exodus

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Such a tragedy for them all, to lose a precious child. So, so, so very sorry for the heartbreak they are all experiencing. May God bless them and help them come to terms with their loss.

Lena: thank you for your admonishment to those who feel they must throw in their (inappropriate) two cents. Let’s all have some respect and exhibit empathy for this family.

Super sad. Absolutely tragic. Last night, I tried to find the name of the mother too, but couldn’t find any reference to her at all.

  12. Wow says:

That would make six children, right?
Never mind – that’s not important. I was sad that his little girl didn’t pull through. I just know the Mother will probably forever feel guilty even though it was an accident. And the poor brother who found her? Man! That hurts just to think about.

    🙁

  13. TaylorB says:

That is terribly sad. My heart goes out to the whole family, especially the parents, no parent is ever ready to bury their child especially one so young.

  14. caribassett says:

This is horrible, just heartbreaking. I feel so terrible for them.

  15. Belle Epoch says:

#12 you got it right. Can’t leave little kids alone, especially around big machinery. Unfortunately the older brother not only will have post traumatic shock but also will feel guilty for not finding her sooner – kids always blame themselves. This is a tragedy all around.

  16. Lem says:

i’m so confused by the ‘treadmill cord’ as CB pointed out they have emergency rip cords that are designed to pull away in an emergency. it is a safety feature. Designed to detach when the cord is pulled. We have several treadmills in the house, I just can’t fathom.
Treadmills are notorious for ripping fingers off of children or giving road rash when crawlers clothing gets caught. I have an unnatural fear of my kids losing fingers to the mega-mart checkout belt.

    How unbelievably tragic

Mike Tyson had six kids with five different women: Gena, Mikey, Raina, Amir, Miguel and Exodus. I believe it was Exodus’ half brother who found her. No matter, she was an adorable baby and I wish the family peace. I also checked my own treadmill to make sure no wires were hanging off it.

  23. SixxKitty says:

Deepest condolences to them. What a horrible tragedy. RIP Exodus.

  24. justme says:

How terrible. God bless all concerned.

  25. Trashaddict says:

Really sad. Please, please NEVER leave your kids around exercise equipment. It’s all potentially dangerous. Her poor, poor mom has now learned what can happen in just a matter of minutes. Beware of pools, too. Sensors and gaits can’t substitute for adult supervision.
    So sorry for her family.

  26. Greta says:

My deepest prayers go out to the Tyson family. I want to clarify something though. Mike Tyson had six children and Gena isn’t his biological child. His children are Mikey Tyson (by Kim Scarborough). She’s 18. Amir and Rayna (11 and 13) by ex-wife Monica Turner. Gena is Monica’s oldest daughter from another relationship. Her father is Eugene Bird, not Mike Tyson. Then there was Miguel and Exodus (7 and 4) by Cheli Xochitli. And Mike’s current girlfriend has a 6 month old baby girl with him. Baby is Milan and girlfriend is Kiki Spicer. They live in Vegas.
