Chris Evans talks in the third person: ‘Chris does want to be a daddy someday’

Chris Evans’ promotional trail for Gifted has started, and wouldn’t you know? He’s only had to answer questions about Jenny Slate once, during an interview with People Magazine. Evans kept it classy, which is nice, but there does seem to be a major difference between his statements and Slate devoting her entire NY Magazine interview to analyzing their relationship. So, for the most part, Chris gets to do standard-issue interviews where he reveals that he wants babies and he had a crush on Sandra Bullock. Some assorted quotes:

On his young costar, Mckenna Grace and crying on cue: “Crying on cue is a tough thing to do, but I tell you what there is no better catalyst than this little nugget over here. She is so good and so honest. Those tears start rolling, you would have to be pretty heartless to not get emotional.”

He wants to be a daddy: “I have a big family, a lot of little nieces and nephews, and cousins, and a lot of people in my life that I care about,” he said. In other words, he can’t wait to be a father. “Chris does want to be a daddy someday,” Evans, 35, said with smile.

His celebrity crushes when he was a kid: “Elisabeth Shue from Adventures of Babysitting and Karate Kid!…Lori Loughlin was a big one. Come on, who didn’t love Lori Loughlin? She hasn’t aged at all. Sandra Bullock was a big one too…like when I was like in seventh or eight grade.”

He’d love to be in a musical: “I’m looking to find one. I love Gene Kelly, he was great. Wouldn’t it be great to do a [Gene Kelly] biopic or something like that?” Or Guys & Dolls! “That would be great, too,” Evans said. “I did that in high school.”

His favorite class in school was math: “I probably didn’t like English too much. I hate spelling and grammar.”

He has mixed feelings about doing his last Captain America movie: “After that my contract is done so it’s out of my hands…. I have been doing this for so long, it’s tough to think about not doing it. For almost a decade now there has always been one around the corner. I would be open to it. I love playing that guy.”

[From E! News]

I read that quote about babies and fatherhood like ten times trying to understand what was happening. He talks about himself in the third person, like Kellan Lutz? Chris Evans says: “Chris Evans does want to be a daddy someday.” And are we really going with “daddy” here, Chris? Can’t we say, “I can’t wait to be father”? As for the sentiment… I suspect that Chris’s “light” isn’t on yet, to borrow the always-true Sex and the City concept. When a man’s light goes on, suddenly he’s ready to be a daddy. Plus, his love life seems pretty messy, so maybe he’s just not ready to be a daddy right now.

Wade Boggs Alert, Chris! Do NOT talk about yourself in the third person

  2. original kay says:

    That first picture is everything

  3. JustJen says:

You know who else talks about themselves in the third person…ELMO. Don’t go there, Chris.

  4. cr says:

Bob Dole also talks about himself in the third person. So yeah, let’s not go there.

  5. Mia4s says:

“I would be open to it. I love playing that guy.”

Ha! Good boy. There’s an actor who knows he’s an average talent at best so a regular gig is worth holding onto. There’s a plethora of blond Chrises in Hollywood, he’s not unique or special. Smart if he understands that.

Now will Marvel want to pay him RDJ money? Nah, my guess is he’s just about done.

Why are there so many makeup artists putting yellowish makeup on pinkish-pale actors? And then not blending it at the hairline? Just look at Evans in the first picture. Hiddleston and Cumberbatch, to mention a few, suffer the same problem in their red carpet photos.

    • Erinn says:

I have a hard time believing a professional did that. I mean – hey, probably. But at the same time, I can’t imagine having trained in makeup enough to be able to do it for people who are pretty famous can make that kind of mistake.

    • Miss V says:

Omg, now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it. /’d Chris has a struggling hairline to begin with. I’m sure it didn’t look that dramatic in person, but in pictures, it’s awful. Yikes!

    • Raina says:

Because everyone is desperately trying to avoid orange.

  7. Anna says:

I used to have a major crush on him years ago, but ever since he got captain america and began doing more interviews, I have to say he’s not my favourite anymore

  8. Wendywoo says:

Let’s be honest. If anyone’s playing Gene Kelly (and it’s a great idea) it’s Channing.
“Chris Evans isn’t gonna be a Gene someday.”

  9. ViXi says:

I wish he would just find himself a surrogate to carry his babies. Its just not worth the time and effort finding the right woman to be your wife just so she can bear your children. It would most likely end in divorce anyway. He should take notes from Real Madrid football player Cristiano Ronaldo – It works for him because he is very close with his family, who is always there to support him. Plenty of women do this nowadays, Chris would do well to consider his options.

  10. HeidiM says:

    Is he dumb? Serious question.

    • Dani says:

I don’t want to say he’s dumb but he’s definitely not the brightest. I mean…I’ve met much worse lol but in a box of 60 crayons, he’s like…the light yellow that doesn’t show up on any kind of paper.

Was this taken from a print interview? Because I just watched a video interview with McKenna where he says this. The third person didn’t seem weird because the interviewer and McKenna were sort of talking about him like “does chris this does chris that” kind of thing. And he kind of interjects to play off of them so it came off as funnier than it reads on paper. But if it’s print with no context then yeah. Weird.

    • Rae says:

      Said it before I could.

It’s from an on camera interview, where the interviewer started talking about Chris in the third person. Evans was just mimicking him when he answered.

Chris can be a douche, and the interview itself was slightly awkward I felt at that moment, but it wasn’t like it sounds on print.

      • MarilynGrey says:

I was going to say the same. I’ve heard him mimic interviewers before when they phrase questions as “does Chris like x?” He’ll reply as “Chris does like x.”

I’m not sure if the interviewers phrase it like that for soundbites or editing, but it doesn’t translate well in print.

Linguists have a name for this. It’s called the “Third Person Peculiar.” One classic example is Richard Nixon’s “You won’t have Nixon to kick around any more.”

  13. Snazzy says:

I loved adventures in babysitting! Such a great movie 😊

  14. anon says:

I’m sure he would like to be a Dad one day…and I don’t mind the guy, but he is just soooo SELF CENTERED !! Being a parent means making decisions based on what the child needs, and not resenting it.

  15. wood dragon says:

Odds are he might be a better dad than a husband, but he needs to stop making such statements in public while he’s so busy playing the field. And he better be careful while he’s out there or he could become one with someone he doesn’t want to be tied to for the next 18 years.
