Chris Pine debuted his shaved head at CinemaCon: still hot or not so much?

Warner Bros 2017 CinemaCon Presentation

Noooooooooooo. This is depressing! As many of you know, I like furry dudes. I’m down with lots of chest hair. I like a beard on a man. I prefer a guy with shaggy hair as opposed to someone hyper-groomed. And for a year, Chris Pine’s look was giving me heart palpitations. He grew out his hair a little bit so it was perfectly shaggy-hot. He grew out his natural salt-and-pepper beard, and it made his blue eyes pop. His furry look was crazy-bangable. But Chris Pine shaved it all off!!! He debuted his new look at CinemaCon on Wednesday, explaining that he didn’t really do the haircut for a movie role or anything. Huh.

Chris Pine showed off his surprising new bald look in Las Vegas on Wednesday. It’s his idea, his handiwork and his story is the best hair tale you’ll hear all day.

“Yes I did it myself, I used clippers,” Pine told USA TODAY before taking the CinemaCon stage to promote his new movie Wonder Woman during the Warner Bros. presentation at the national convention of theater owners. Pine’s new look is not for an upcoming acting role. Star Trek’s Captain Kirk was home ill with long hair and a full beard when he decided to start cutting out of boredom. It was an elaborate process, as he explained.

“I went through phases. So I had long hair and a beard. And first I did a facial hair thing. That was fun. I did the mustache. I did a little General Sherman,” Pine said of the Civil War general with a distinctive receding hairline and beard. “Then I did a full-shaved back (of the head). That was fun for a day. Then I got a fade. Then I started doing designs. And then I got real bored,” said Pine, admitting to hitting a hair “nadir.” “I went full chop,” Pine said.

But will he keep the look?

“It’s a little intense,” said Pine. “But it’s easy And it’s cool, meaning cool like in a breeze.”

Pine said already people are mixing him up with other bald celebrities.

“Someone thought I was Jason Statham,” said Pine.

[From USA Today]

I don’t see Jason Statham here. I do think Pine looks younger with less hair. It’s not that he has a baby face, but the white and grey in his beard did make him look older and more distinguished, like a bangable tenured English professor. Now he just looks… I don’t know. Like, he’s still a good-looking guy and I would probably still hit it. But I preferred the beard.

    He’s gorgeous. Magical eyes.

  2. Nanny to the Rescue says:

I see Mel Gibson in his look and I don’t like it at all.

  3. kay says:

    o m f g.
    uh…i think he looks heavenly.
    fahk.
    what a sexy dude.

    • INeedANap says:

I’m with you girl. I’ll take him any which way. And he seems sharp in the mind too, which helps tremendously.

  4. Tiffany says:

I am finally seeing Robert Pine in him. They look so much alike now.

  5. KBeth says:

Handsome guy but what the hell is he wearing?

  6. Lightpurple says:

Pine’s best look was in Hell or High Water he should look like that and wear those jeans at all times.

  7. jinni says:

I guess I am the only one that thinks he’s ugly with hair and hideous without hair. The shape of his mouth grosses me out. I just don’t get the hype around his looks. Maybe if I automatically thought blue eyes makes someone good looking I’d get it, but I prefer brown/dark eyes.

  8. third ginger says:

Yet another fine actor young enough to be my son. Pine did a wonderful job in HELL OR HIGH WATER, one of my favorite films this year. Love the “English professor” comment. That would be my husband of 35 years.

  9. OTHER RENEE says:

He’s gorgeous but does need to never ever again wear the Shopping-at-Sears pants.

    • astrid says:

      +1

    • Maxine Ducamp says:

My first thought was that he’d ordered them from the ad in the back of the old Parade Magazine that used to be in the Sunday papers (only fellow Americans of a certain age will get the reference).

  10. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Still hot and he’s getting more like his father as he gets older – its not a bad thing.

  11. QQ says:

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Yes Is the first time I find myself doing this to any of these Bland ass Chrises Overlords

  12. Beth says:

Handsome guy. I love blue eyes! Not every guy looks good with a shaved head. He looks great, but the outfit is hideous, ugh!

  13. Cee says:

This is the first time I’ve found him HOT. So yeah, keep the buzz cut. Suits him much better.

  14. third ginger says:

Can there possibly be a designer who is giving Chris these clothes? They are the corny antithesis of those impossibly hip horrors Gucci gives Leto.

    • HeidiM says:

He does seem to be wearing this type of sh!t whenever he’s doing PR appearances. I think someone is supplying the “Sears” wear. When you see candid’s of him out around LA, its always rumpled jeans and well worn t-shirts. Possibly a cardigan.

    • mazzie says:

      Yup. He has stylists.

    • LA Elle says:

He seems to actually like dressing like this. I think he considers himself something of a fashionista (or whatever the male term is), but I don’t think his style does anything for him.

  15. Grant says:

I hated the beard but I miss the shaggy hair.

    • vauvert says:

Same feeling but I will sacrifice and take him like this too, and to address the very valid complaints re: his horrible clothes, I will ensure he’ll be out of them ASAP. I’m charitable like that…

  16. Valois says:

    Nope nope nope.

  17. Brit says:

He’s so hot either way, and seems more talented out of all the Chrises. At least that’s what hell or high water taught me. Somehow I wasn’t even paying attention to his clothes

    • LA Elle says:

He’s incredibly talented, and his comedic timing is fantastic. The political ad he did ahead of the election was hilarious.

  18. Bridget says:

It looks good. The shaved head counterbalances his giant dome.

  19. detritus says:

He used to look like the most interesting man in the world… now he just looks like a buffer moby.
    bring back the haaaairs

  20. HeidiM says:

I prefer him rumpled looking. But I’d still hit ~ after I burned those f*&^ing slacks.

    • KBeth says:

Bahaahh……slacks!!!! Seriously, they are so fug they do not even deserved to be called pants.
…that said, I’d still hit it as well.

  21. Penelope says:

Chris is SO hot & sexy–my goodness, those EYES–but he dresses like his father in CHIPS. Or for that time period, anyhow.

I had a huge crush on Dad Pine back in the day!

  22. Ally8 says:

Chris Pine and Oscar Isaac are the two actors currently carving out the smartest careers in Hollywood. It’s at the point where if they’re in a movie, I know it will be good to excellent.

  23. mazzie says:

Would still do. Would have to rub his head before, during and after. As you do.

  24. KiddVicious says:

Sans-a-Belt! At first I wasn’t digging the 70’s clothes, but his sexiness transcends it.

He’s gorgeous with or without all of that hair.

  25. LA Elle says:

He looks like he’s about to go play a 1970s skinhead.

  26. Amelie says:

I only came here to say I learned yesterday that his female fans refer to themselves as Pine Nuts! I can’t decide if that’s funny or weird.

  27. Casi says:

Hot hot hot. And those.pants will look just as good on the floor as any other.

  28. khaveman says:

Hated the long hair beard look – he looked like some old creepy dude trying to sell cheap liquor in a commercial or something. Like the new look but the brown slacks are awful. I like the shirt.

  29. Flaming says:

Love Chris Pine. He’s quite well read and intellectual if asked in interviews to talk about artsy subjects and did literature at Berkley but like Jodie Foster is savvy enough not to push himself as one (just came from the ScarJo thread where posters were talking about her trying to pretend she’s smarter than she really is). Hot, charming, and smart, even with the shaved head.

  30. Rubber Ducky says:

Somewhere, an octogenarian at a golf course is searching for his outfit.

  31. North of Boston says:

Not really loving this look. I can’t decide if it’s
    – the combination of shaved head/beard stubble, where it looks like he just set the shaver to setting #2 and did face and head at the same time, or if it’s
    – the short stubble hair isn’t weighty enough to counter the hefty dark eyebrows. Or maybe it’s the
    – “didn’t bother to shave today” look combined with the 70s polyester look, which I think he’s either 15 years too old or 45 years too young to really pull off.

The shaggy look suits him, and the short hair / clean shaven look suits him (like his Star Trek look) but this look is really not doing it for me.

  32. Cara says:

He looks alright. I’ll bang him anyday
