Emperor Trump’s Easter Egg Roll did not go smoothly whatsoever

During the Obama years – God, how I miss them – the annual White House Easter Egg Roll was a fun, silly and sometimes celebrity-filled event. The Obamas invited federal employees with kids, White House staffers with kids, and just regular Washington people to come to the event. The president and first lady would read to children, someone would dress up like the Easter Bunny, lots of chocolate would be around (although Michelle also had some healthier options) and all in all, it was just a nice day on the White House calendar. The Obamas thrived at those kinds of events and they were usually executed flawlessly, and with humor and humanity.

Well, for weeks we were hearing that the Trump administration was too messy, too chaotic and too stupid to properly organize their Easter Egg Roll event. Even the New York Times called them out for their crappy advance work last week, and I SWEAR TO GOD, Bigly’s people were out ahead of the Easter Egg Roll trying to diminish expectations about how bad this year’s event was going to be. Basically, it’s the story of Bigly presidency in a nutshell: half-ass everything, insult everyone, lie endlessly and then when you don’t completely sh-t the bed, declare victory and repeat the process ad infinitum. So what happened during Monday’s White House Easter Egg Roll? A bunch of sh-t.

Melania had to give Bigly a nudge to get him to put his hand over his heart:

Emperor Bigly terrified children when he began a half-stump speech about how “We will be stronger and bigger and better as a nation than ever before and we are right on track. You see what’s happening, and we’re right on track.” My God.

A kid asked Trump to sign his hat, which Trump did… and then Trump tossed the hat into the crowd.

And finally, this year’s Easter Bunny was a terrifying, bespeckled monster. DO NOT LOOK INTO HIS DEAD EYES. Do make a Donnie Darko reference though.

That Easter Bunny must be the escaped pet of Pennywise the Clown

  2. Shambles says:

When people have to be reminded which of the two cartoons is running the country…

Jeff Sessions and Sean Spicer were allowed to read to children, which might be the most terrifying thing the Trump administration has done so far.

    • Bootsie says:

Cos Trump CAN’T read. That’s why the gnome and the man whose receding hairline contains more joy and wit than he does had to stand in.

      • JurisGal says:

        Bootsie, that post…hilarious!
What a mess this was and why did he inexplicably toss the hats away like that? Why?! I saw a video in which he did it twice, he is ridiculous!

    • E says:

What did Sessions read? A birthday Cake for George Washington? Or The Story of Dr. Dolittle?

  3. Lou says:

Can’t get over the hat thing. What is WRONG with him? Is he literally Biff from Back to the Future 2?

    • Megan says:

And why the hell is the president signing autographs, FFS?

    • LadyMTL says:

Me too! That poor kid! Bad enough that he has to go to an Easter Egg Roll with Satan’s Bunny hopping around, but then his hat is basically stolen? Man, I hope he threw one heck of a fit.

      • Shambles says:

That poor kid, indeed. Bad enough that his parents are raising him to respect this man enough to want an autograph from him.

      • hnmmom says:

I thought it was a MAGA hat? I’m side-eyeing anyone who went to this event who was not a paid staffer in fear of losing their jobs.

      • Raina says:

I hope he threw the hat at the kids parents who are allowing their kid to desire an autograph from Captain Turd.

    • Ripley says:

It’s so bizarre. I have no words.

I couldn’t put my finger on it but now that you’re saying that, his behavior makes sense.

      • HappyMom says:

But he’s always been like this. I’m old enough to remember The Donald from the 80s: he’s been an a-hole from the beginning of time.

      • Lama Bean says:

@HappyMom, this is now a-hole mixed with dementia. If you look at interviews from the 90s and aughts, he may be an a$$ but he is at least coherent and speaking in complete sentences.

      • Scout says:

Y’all are cutting this sociopath way too much slack. His open contempt for anyone and everyone not named Ivanka is well documented over decades and decades.

    • doofus says:

      he’s a bully, that’s all he knows.

compare it to how O acted. hugging kids, giving high fives, and, in one instance, comforting a crying kid who didn’t “find” any eggs. O has humanity and actually likes his constituents. Drumpf has no humanity and basically hates anyone who isn’t rich, can’t do anything for him, and doesn’t kiss his ass.

      • Lama Bean says:

I saw that pic last night of BO comforting the child and it just made me cry all over again about how much I miss them. Now that I know why he was comforting the child, it is making me cry again.

      • AnneC says:

It boggles my mind that 1/3 of the country still likes him, thinks he’s doing a competent job and doesn’t think he’s the creepiest, most ill tempered, narcissistic idiot ever in this kind of position. Guy shouldn’t be running a 7-11 much less the country. God, what a nightmare.

    • swak says:

So this popped up on my FB last night (via my SIL who was appalled by it) and the Trumpters are defending his actions. One person said that Trump was handed the hat from an adult to be signed, signed it and then threw it into the crowd. Pointed out to him that the person said “Will you sign MY hat.” Never got a response to that one. Another posted that Trump had to throw it back because the crowd got between him and the child. I replied (after reading the article she posted – which she says Politico apologized that they got it wrong – never saw that in the article) that if Trump was close enough to grab (the article’s words) the hat from the child then he was close enough to hand it back. Never got an answer on that one either. Spin, spin, spin and always make Trump look good and the news fake.

      • SusanneToo says:

Whenever I respond to someone on twitter they will frequently respond back with a link from fox, breitbart, anonews, etc., all the known fake/lying sites. Yesterday some clown was saying that President Obama had cancelled the National Day of Prayer and never attended church. Also, that Kerry had admitted they supported ISIS to get rid of Assad. Where did he get his news? Yep, from the sites I mentioned. They are truly delusional.

    • Merritt says:

      He is a terrible person.

      • doofus says:

yeah, the crying kid I mentioned in my post above?…Drumpf would have pointed and laughed and called the kid a loser.

    • Megan says:

Trump would consider a comparison to Biff a compliment. He loves bullies. He called Erdogan to congratulate him on his victory in moving Turkey ever closer to an autocracy.

  4. JustME says:

“We will be stronger and bigger and better as a nation than ever before and we are right on track. You see what’s happening, and we’re right on track.” – wonder if he will still say that after bombs will be dropped on America because with all the enemies Trump has it’s quite possible that this could happen.

    • jwoolman says:

The latest news is that at least 40 people died and dozens more were injured when the US dropped bombs on a Syrian mosque back on ‘March 16….. That should make us many more friends. It was a well known mosque also so it wouldn’t have been able to find out about it before going all Trump in it.

The US has tried to say it was a bunch of terrorists at a meeting hall. The sign for the mosque was found in the rubble and Human Rights Watch just issued their report after investigation, confirming that it was a mosque where people had come for a regular series of lectures and prayers. The first strike hit people inside, the second strike people outside. People coming to try to help the victims were also killed.

  9. Lindy says:

Jeebus, now I’m starting to get why Anya was so terrified of bunnies. She must’ve had a vision of this one…

(Sorry, Buffy reference. I’ve been rewatching them). Actually, maybe Buffy could just come and get rid of our evil emperor? He’s a pretty big bad. Who can’t even manage an event for children without behaving like a bully.

    • Luca76 says:

I love Anya’s little vignette song about bunnies in ‘Once more with Feeling’.
But her best line ever is about Thanksgiving https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zY7hWPSbbw0

Thanks for helping me to pretend none of this stuff is actually happening

    • Erinn says:

lol – I love that I read this without even thinking twice about the reference. It’s just like “yeah, she knew what was up”.

    • swak says:

OMG!! You just made my day (big Buffy fan here). 🙂 Oh and Buffy and her minions would have to figure out what would kill Trump and make him not come back, as a stake through the heart wouldn’t work.

Looking at the bunny makes me glad that pet rabbits are banned here.

  10. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

That bunny is Bigly alt ego. The physical manifestation of what’s is his soul.

Also didn’t Spicer scare the children by reading to them as well?

Melania’s speech was better than his and she was clearly nervous about speaking.

  11. Lightpurple says:

This crew can’t even manage a party tradition that has been in place for over a century with binders full of instructions on how to manage it sitting in the First Lady’s Office. They screwed up the inauguration luncheon too. They can’t handle parties; imagine how they are screwing up the more important tasks of actually managing the government?

He made a political speech. To CHILDREN. This is NOT done at the Easter Roll.

Also, unless you are wearing a law enforcement or military uniform with a hat, your hand does not go over the heart during the anthem. Hand over heart for pledge, not anthem. That’s the only thing the turd got right until his wife mistakenly “corrected” him.

ETA And Eric’s wife’s dress was inappropriately short for an event that would involve picking items up off the ground.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

About the hand over the heart during the anthem, I don’t know if there is any protocol about that, but I remember Laura and GWB doing it, and so did a number of US athletes on the podium. Imo it’s not about “right” or “wrong”, but it should be meaningful and honest.

      • Esmom says:

“Meaningful and honest.” That’s the key and Trump isn’t honest nor does he find meaning in anything that matters. He’s the very definition of an empty suit.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Esmom. It was reported that his appearance at church in MAL was the first church attendance since inauguration, but his deluded hypocritical “Christian” a$$kissers constantly contrast him to the “devil Obama.” How do those people know how to dress themselves, they’re so stupid.

      • Lightpurple says:

The Alt-Right Nazi bigot crew loved to post pictures of Obama NOT putting his hand on his heart during the anthem, screaming that it was proof he wasn’t American. You do NOT have to put your hand on your heart during the anthem. You DO have to remove any hats you are wearing, unless you are wearing a military or law enforcement uniform, in which case, you place you hand on your heart.

      • Esmom says:

While I stand respectfully I never put my hand on my heart during the anthem (I go to a lot of sporting events with my kids, lol). I used to do it almost as a reflex, I think from childhood programming, but then stopped when i realized people get upset when I don’t do it and I passive-aggressively enjoy their stupid misplaced outrage.

      • jwoolman says:

I think the protocol varies, so I would give him a pass on this. He was probably daydreaming about calling up ICE to deport that foreign-looking Bunny who was suspiciously fully covered and wearing a mask. Probably a Muslim bunny. Was the bunny’s basket extremely vetted?

    • Sixer says:

I saw on the Twatter than #freemelania had to nudge him to put his hand on his heart for the jingoistic sing song*. GUFFAW! How un-American! And they can’t even get that right between them – I’ve seen you distinguish between pledge and sing song before. So even IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII knew that.

*I call all national anthems that, just in case I upset anyone!

      • Lightpurple says:

Our jingoistic sing song is quite jingoistic given that it describes a battle and is set to the tune of an old British drinking song. We have much prettier patriotic songs about the actual country but we seem to be sticking with the bar song about a battle.

      • Sixer says:

Ours is a literal hymn to an old lady!

      • FLORC says:

        Sixer
I read “sing song” and immediately asked myself when the carpenters song – sing a song was performed.
Lol because any fool can tell the difference between those 2 tunes

      • Shambles says:

But he was WEARING A FLAG PIN, Sixer. Bigly presidential. Crooked Hillary wasn’t wearing one and she LOST. Flag pin is only requirement for job of president man.

      • Sixer says:

        I WANT A FLAG PIN.

I am going to design my own flag for it though.

    • Esmom says:

Pete Souza posted some amazing photos on Instagram yesterday of past egg rolls with the Obamas. There was so much joy and warmth and humanity in the shots — Obama hula hooping on the lawn, he and Michelle reading Where The Wild Things Are with goofy dramatic facial expressions…I just wanted to weep for what we have lost.

      • Nicole says:

His IG has been a lesson in shade ever since Obama left office. Every single day is another carefully chosen photo. I love it

      • Shambles says:

        I looked and I cried.

      • PunkyMomma says:

How I love the way Pete Souza is trolling Cheeto Mussolini! His magnificent shade is the only thing that stops me for weeping when I see those pics of President Obama, and the Obama family.

    • cindyp says:

Tiffany was there too wearing a too short little dress. They’re all white trash

    • RuddyZooKeeper says:

That’s not right, actually. There is a set protocol. And civilians should put hands on hearts in salute when the flag is presented (during anthem). Uniformed military personnel outdoors keep hats on and formally salute. All from the first note to the final note. Look at this link under National Anthem section.
      http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm

    • Christin says:

One of the cable news outlets spouted the WH story that the FL had studied past events, put a lot of time into it, etc. I laughed, because anyone who has ever done event planning knows there have to be detailed notes on an event that has occurred for decades.

Someone else does the work, and to imply she has done anything but fly around the East Coast and pick out a dress is a joke.

    • M.A.F. says:

Re: Hand over heart during the anthem- that has been more of a trend lately. I don’t know when it started but I’ve noticed more and more people doing it.

    • jwoolman says:

SusanneToo- Trump has never been into church attendance, but there can be a security and media attention problem if a POTUS attends any regular religious service these days. The media might be the biggest problem, since that isn’t fair to other people attending. Maybe they can keep them away well enough from schools, to avoid harassing the kids, but I don’t think they can from a religious assembly.

I think Jimmy Carter (who really was serious about his religion) might have arranged for a church service right in the White House. Not sure about that, but I do remember that he taught Sunday School in the White House so that would make a lot of sense.

Richard Nixon’s mother was a Quaker and he seemed to claim that as his label when asked. He never seemed too close to the Quaker Peace Testimony to me, but it takes all kinds. A local Quaker Meeting (congregation) invited him to come to their services any time, but he never did. Word was that the local Quakers were most upset about his lying. I met a career Air Force man (from several generations of career military men) who became a conscientious objector in Vietnam, triggered by listening to Nixon telling the nation that there were no US troops in Cambodia, when this guy had just flown a bunch of troops into Cambodia himself. Don’t know if the lying was the last straw or the first straw, but it was against the code he had learned in his family and in the military. He actually ended up as a Quaker himself, don’t know if he officially joined but he thought of himself as one.

  12. Dottie Hinkle says:

I thought throwing the hat in the air was an old baseball trick. You’re supposed to throw it so it lands in front of the person.

  13. Insomniac says:

Let’s play “What if Obama Did That?” Can you imagine the screaming from the wingnuts if Michelle had EVER had to nudge Barack to put his hand over his heart during the anthem?

    • Luca76 says:

They actually showed a video on my Facebook feed of what Obama did at the last Easter Egg roll. It just about broke my heart. There was a kid having a meltdown and Obama stayed with him, calmed him down and got him to ‘shake it off’. How can we go from that kind of compassion, kidnrsss, dignity to this turd???

      • Lucy2 says:

The Obamas have such a natural way with children. My favorite photos were always them with kids, and I loved how open and inviting they made the White House.

      • kNY says:

Obama + kids = melt my heart

    • Lightpurple says:

THEY have been circulating a picture for years of Obama and several others during an anthem when he did not have his hand over his heart. You don’t have to put your hand over your heart during the anthem. The pledge, yes; the anthem, no.

    • HappyMom says:

How about the horror of Michelle’s bare arms? And Melania wears sleeveless dresses all the time, and Tiffany and Lara wear skirts that are WAY too short.

  14. littlemissnaughty says:

Are we sure nobody was trolling him with that bunny? My god.

  15. Kelly says:

This year’s Easter Egg Roll was a stark contrast to the ones under the Obamas. Both of them seemed to have genuinely enjoyed the event and being around the kids. The video of President Obama reading Where the Wild Things are is worth seeing for his joy and seeing a president who could read a book.

  16. Pedro45 says:

To be fair, Laura Bush always planned nice events too. When I lived in DC I knew someone who was invited with her kid to one of the Easter Egg Rolls during W’s administration (not the year Spicey was the Bunny) and she said Laura couldn’t have been lovelier and W appeared to be enjoying himself. Neither one of us would have voted for W with a gun to our heads, I’m just saying, you can’t even compare Trump to W, much less to Obama.
Speaking of guns, Wayne LaPierre was there yesterday so I assume all of the kids received handguns in their baskets?

    • Esmom says:

LOL/Sob about Wayne LaPierre. He’s a vile scumbag and I wouldn’t put it past him to hand out handguns for Easter.

    • SusanneToo says:

Laura was a Democrat before she married George, and remained one at heart, I believe.

    • adastraperaspera says:

LaPierre at the Easter Egg Roll that is for kids. After his obstruction of any gun control law after Sandy Hook crime. I think this is maybe the most disgusting thing Tr*mp has done yet. I hope they all burn in a scalding hell. And soon.

      • Esmom says:

Yes. I was so livid at the NRA while Sandy Hook was happening and in the immediate aftermath that it almost felt like an out of body experience at times. It’s tragic that nothing has really changed since that horrible day.

      • LittlestRoman says:

I completely agree – when the majority of Americans (and those they elected) seemingly decided that it was A-OK to murder 1st graders, my eyes were opened to the depths of selfishness lurking inside most people. If that crime didn’t result in stricter laws and background checks, I doubt anything will.

  17. Strangegirl says:

I really believe 45 can’t read very well. Notice how he didn’t read a story. We have an illiterate for president . Basic reading skills should be a requirement for the job.

    • Yep says:

Just came to say the same thing.

    • doofus says:

I believe that, too. you can tell when he’s reading from a teleprompter or prepared speech because All. Of. His. Words. Are. Very. DELIBERATE. he doesn’t know how to read prepared words so they have an effect, he says every single one like it’s the MOST IMPORTANT of the speech and doesn’t know how to emphasize the right words to hit home. it’s why he prefers to “wing it”.

  18. Indiana Joanna says:

LOL, Kaiser. Baby fists is never the adult in the room. When you manage to take a no-brainer event that celebrates the innocence of children and turn it into a sloppy and terrifying campaign event that’s all about you, it’s a clear indication that you are a MONSTER.

    • Esmom says:

Seriously. By all accounts Trump didn’t engage with his kids when they were young. Seems obvious that he has no rapport with kids at all. And it’s funny, when I was younger I tended to judge guys on how they were with kids, to me it seemed like a good barometer for overall character.

    • Lightpurple says:

Except she was the one who was wrong. He was doing something right for probably the first time in a very, very long time.

      • jwoolman says:

I think I’ve seen people do it both ways. So there doesn’t seem to be a firm and fast protocol on this. But Melania might have been told by someone actually doing the planning that this was expected. She got the idea from somewhere, and she certainly listens better than Donald.

  22. smcollins says:

Ugh…there really is no end to the stupidity & incompetence with this lot. Seeing photos of Obama-hosted EERs makes my heart hurt. But so many of the comments on here are making me lol, so thank you for that!

  23. grabbyhands says:

Remember that one time that all the right wing f**knuts lost their collective shit because Obama didn’t have a flag pin on?? Yeah, that was great.

But I’m sure this is a totally different situation.

    • LittlestRoman says:

It’s almost as if their mouth-frothing hatred of Obama had nothing to do with his politics or personal behavior. Oh, wait… 😉

      • Cran says:

        @ LittlestRoman 😂 I see you just calling a spade a spade 👀 😬.
I miss the Obama family. They are such warm, compassionate people.

Voldemort is bloodless. I believe he is mentally impaired. It’s more than being unable to read. He has no empathy. He smiles as if he’s mimicking human behavior. At times he seems lethargic as if medicated. From numerous reports he has a very limited attention span. I think reading is hard for him because his brain simply can’t process the material and I think that is why he works from gut feelings. His brain just doesn’t work on multiple levels or complex functions. He can’t do more than one thing at a time. He is a very closed off distant person. I believe he keeps a ver small circle around him because he can’t function in a larger group. He can stand at a podium but I believe him to be extremely uncomfortable in a crowd. I think he becomes greatly agitated and freaked out.

    • Desi says:

Or that time Obama didn’t put his hand over his heart when the national anthem was played and the internet exploded like a giant ass boil of outraged and righteous indignation.

Or just last year at the Olympics when Gabby Douglas stood at respectful attention on the medals podium.

Maybe the usual suspects only get their knickers in a twist when brown people do this.

  24. minx says:

Trump looked so dumb in his usual big black suit and long clown tie.

    • Olenna says:

I was thinking the same. Why does he always look so fukn stupid? There is not one angle, position or pose that he doesn’t look stupid or deranged. And, damn, I wish someone would tell him to stop showing those tiny hands. Every time I see them, I think his head is going to start shrinking, too. Lord help us all. I don’t know how much more of this asshat I can take.

    • HappyMom says:

And poor Barron-can’t they let that poor kid dress down once in while? Khakis and a polo would have been fine.

      • jwoolman says:

He was actually dressed down. No tie, open collar. Apparently the kid has actually been fond of suits in the past.

  25. Rapunzel says:

I’m convinced DT does not know how to adapt. He treats everything like a campaign rally. He literally does not know how to do anything else.

  26. Deb says:

These comments give me hope y’all.

How could Any parent expose their child to this?

    • Eric says:

      Deb.
Without this site I’d have gone insane by now. It is the humor and insight hete that keeps me sane. Thanks Kaiser and fellow posters!

      • jwoolman says:

Speaking of humor – I just read “YUGE! 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump” by GB Trudeau. Trump has been a recurring character in the strip and this is a collection of the strips featuring the Trumpster. If you’re on Amazon Prime, it’s free to rent this month at least. Of historical interest, of course.

It includes a newspaper article about Trump’s reaction. Donald was baffled by it all and didn’t think it was at all funny. And he complained about the way Trudeau drew him in a way not recognizing his innate handsomeness. I think he must have called Trudeau “third-rate”, because it was mentioned in the intro that if you googled trump plus third-rate then pretty much every good comedian’s name would come up.

      • minx says:

        Yes, thanks to everyone here.
I would go crazy without CB to let me know there are still sane people.

      • Beth says:

This is the only place I go where I’m not attacked by Trumpsters. Awesome that I can go here with sane people. There has to be a place with people on my side, and this is it. Thank goodness for you people!

    • Insomniac says:

Seriously. Every morning I wake up and think “This can’t possibly still be going on, can it? Oh god, it is.” I think I’d go nuts if I didn’t have this place to blow off steam.

  27. robyn says:

It’s when Trump has his little forgetful moments that I wonder if dementia will be his excuse when the Russian connections become more revealed. So-called president Trump likes to compare himself with Reagan … isn’t that what happened to him during the Iran/Contra scandal.

Prisons have nursing homes. We are competent until ruled incompetent. And if trying to invalidate his treason, he would also invalidate any financial deals he made. Family wouldn’t want the latter.

  28. thaisajs says:

Whoever the advance person is who let that Easter bunny be on stage with him should be fired. We went to the Easter Egg Roll last year and they had several mildly terrifying looking bunnies walking around for kids to pose with. I don’t remember any of them having that look of horror on their faces, tho.

I’m in no way a fan of Trump, but man, even the WH staff is trolling him.

    • robyn says:

And they shouldn’t have let the bunny stand behind the singer. Those ears added a weirdness to the whole thing.

  29. Jazz says:

Put Spicer back in that bunny suit! Best place for him.

  30. Danielle says:

The best hands-down summary of this presidency I’ve read to date:

“Bigly presidency in a nutshell: half-ass everything, insult everyone, lie endlessly and then when you don’t completely sh-t the bed, declare victory and repeat the process ad infinitum.”

    Well done.

    • Macscore says:

Absolutely, Danielle – that sentence is a gem. Thanks Kaiser and everybody else here. I’m so depressed and tired I hardly wanted to comment, but had to express gratitude for everyone’s sanity and outspokenness. [I live in Europe; my flatmate just had an old friend for coffee, and the talk turned to politics, as it does…. This old guy started talking about how he “has friends in America, and they’re all saying that everybody is totally over-reacting here, and Trump’s not that bad, and the infrastructure sucked when he took over, and there’s lots to be done…’ bla bla bla… Please be assured that I stood up and hit him with one of my most eloquent, anti-Trump, pro-Obama rants I have ever delivered. I was so fuming I could hardly be gracious. I even grabbed a biography of Trump to back up my claims that he has _always_ been an asshole, always stiffed people in his business practices to the point of driving many to bankruptcy, and then threatening them with lawsuits should they dare to request what they were owed… etc. etc. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Jennifer says:

That costume! I’m sitting at work and seriously just laughed out loud.

  32. Rapunzel says:

And he’s tweeting ads for fox and friends again. Are they paying him?

  33. jwoolman says:

People have been speculating about who exactly is in the Bunny suit with that open-mouthed look of horror. Steve Bannon? Tiffany? Stephen Miller? Eric?

  34. Who says says:

You also forgot to add to the Whitehouse list of worse Easter Egg Roll ever
Washington Post reported there were not enough eggs: How do you host an Easter-egg hunt and not have enough eggs? So estimated crowd size of 21,000 people and 18,000 eggs
Also the Washington Post claimed about 35,000 people showed up for the Obamas’ last Easter Egg Roll, but only 21,000 for Trumps.

  36. Desi says:

The only reason they referenced the hand-over-heart gesture in a 1942 modification to the U.S. Flag Code, in specific detail, was to stop people from doing the Bellamy salute.

I guess people have mostly forgotten that Americans, for 50-odd years up till then, looked like Nazis when we saluted our flag.

It wasn’t born of any attempt to institutionalize patriotism or respect. It was simply the government going “please stop doing that, for the love of God, here… do this instead!”

    • Desi says:

Oh, and it had nothing to do with the anthem; it was originally a Pledge of Allegiance thing.

Anyway, hand over heart is standard Pledge protocol, but standing at respectful, eyes-on-flag attention for the anthem is perfectly acceptable.

  37. Liz version 700 says:

That bunny is giving me flashbacks to the infamous Trump Christie news conference. Same look of rediculous horror

  38. Barb says:

I think he is socially awkward. I have a son like that. They don’t pick up on clues as to how to respond as others do.

  39. Deeanna says:

My, my, that picture captures the Trumps, doesn’t it? Poor Barron looking slightly dazed and confused, Melania looking squinty and confused, and the big Orange One with face all screwed up as it always is at his rallies.

Whoever chose the Bunny with the Eyeglasses costume deserves a yuge bonus! Thank you bigly!

  40. Shannon says:

He’s going senile. That, combined with being an ignorant asshole who likes bombs – and we’re all along for the ride. Hello, sleepless nights. And I’m serious.

    • SusanneToo says:

He looks unhealthier with every passing day. Maybe Fate will save us.🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻. The Rethugs certainly won’t.

      • Carmen says:

Then we’re stuck with Pence. You think Trump is bad? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

      • SusanneToo says:

They’re all bad, but it would give me great satisfaction to see trump dead and see his spawn battle for the spoils. Then I can start incantations for pence, ryan, mcconnell, the whole crew. People better get off their a$$es and vote in a Democratic Congress for any modicum of salvation. I loathe all Republicans.

      • Andrea says:

Maybe Pence can be better controlled? #silver lining

Where was Ivanka? I thought that her presence in the WH was having a positive effect on her father, but instead he is worse than ever. I’m surprised he hasn’t tweeted about how he had bigger turnout than Obama for the Easter Egg Roll event. Trump is always slandering Obama as if Trump is really jealous and envious of Obama. When Trump says that he inherited a mess from the previous administration, I wish the person interviewing him will challenge his lie. The administration that he inherited was fine, it wasn’t perfect, but no one was afraid. Since Trump has been in office all he has done is to removed everything that was put in place to protect us.

Be prepared for another bombing. The press reported that both Democrats and Republicans looked at the information that Nunes said supported Trumps claim that he was being “wiretapped” and they found that Susan Rice didn’t do anything wrong and that Nunes lied, he misrepresented the information that Trump had passed off to him. I know that this is a repeat of last week, but it was drowned out by the press patting Trump on the back for dropping bombs in Syria and Afghanistan. The reason the WH won’t release the WH logs is because it’s going to show that Trump was the one who allowed Nunes onto the WH grounds that Tuesday night.

I notice that more and more press are slamming those press outlets who were patting Trump on the back for dropping bombs.

    • robyn says:

Invanka is too much of a princess to be concerned with egg rolling. She probably thought Melania ought to step up to the plate and do something for once.

As for the bombing: I can’t even begin to express my disgust at seeing Fox and Friends promote the bomb blast as if they were viewing explosions in a computer game, complete with rah-rah USA “patriotic” music. Such bravado for armchair critics. How very North Korean of them.

Bombing further destabilizes our fragile planet and such acts need to be taken seriously. Blasts reverberate and cause damage in areas we don’t expect. I want to see murderous enemies destroyed as much as anyone but glorifying destruction and mayhem is what the enemy does, isn’t it? Why doesn’t Fox News set up a black flag in the background of Fox and Friends and be done with it.

      • SusanneToo says:

Did you see the orgasmic ecstasy on maria bartiroma’s face as she was interviewing him? I thought fox needed to post an XX rating on it. It was disgusting. It’s also the chocolate cake interview, the one where he’s giving the Chinese leader a play by play as we’re conducting warfare.

  45. Julia says:

After watching the hat video, I’m having Election Day PTSD. He is either suffering from dementia, has a very severe social anxiety disorder, or is just a total unfeeling sociopath. (Or any combination thereof.) Although that sadistic smile he gives when he first throws the kids cap leads me towards the latter.

  48. Das Don Das says:

Trump is a cretin and if you voted from him you deserve to be lined up against a wall and shot for treason.
