The annual Cannes Film Festival amfAR gala is always a pretty big deal. Most of the celebrities who come to Cannes for the early days end up staying for longer specifically because they want to attend the gala, to it has become arguably the biggest event at Cannes. It might even be the biggest amfAR gala of the year (amfAR hosts several galas in different cities every year, but they always do one at Cannes). So, here are some photos from last night’s Cannes amfAR gala.
Nicole Kidman has been everywhere this year, and she’s been everywhere in Cannes. I’ve mostly enjoyed her dresses but her hair has been struggling. Her amfAR look might be the worst though. Did you expect Kidman to show up in this terrible Chanel dress with a too-tight top-knot? Ugh. This is a big nope.
Lara Stone in Chanel. Sadly, this could have been incredibly cute, but Karl Lagerfeld hates women and hates women with breasts, so he made Lara’s boobs look incredibly sad. The way this is cut in the bust is unacceptable and the belt just adds to the discomfort. If they had gotten it right, it would have been adorable.
Rita Ora also wore Chanel. I’m trying to work out my feelings on this one, because on one side, I think she looks sort of adorable. On the other side, I don’t think she looks like herself at all. I like that she doesn’t have one go-to “look” and it’s fun to change things up, but the other side of that is that… I’m having issues recognizing her. Someone like Cate Blanchett can change up her style and look from carpet to carpet, but Cate always fundamentally looks like herself. Rita Ora does not.
Diane Kruger wore Alexander McQueen Fall 2017. When I first saw photos of this look, I thought it was just a boring dress. But it turns out this look involves pants!! So I’m in. I love a gala look that involves palazzo pants.

Nicole’s dress is Stevie Nicks meets Cruella deVille
If I were the head of a really glamorous coven, I would wear that all. day. long. Love it!
Haha. Well Nicole is the ice queen so she gets a pass for this. I actually think that in some weird way that dress represents her character. She needed to loose that pink belt though, it looks like a 5 dollar belt you can get in a supermarket

Her natural hair color is actually blonde not red. She chose to be red from about 15-16 and she said in interviews that people always assume it’s her natural color but it isn’t.

Even in not so great outfits, Nicole still looks better in them than anyone else would.

Nicole and Diane are clearly sorceresses. It’s absolutely brilliant. Hell to the no to Lara. Let’s leave enormous waist belts in the early 2000s where they belong. Rita Ora looks cute, and at the risk of sounding judgmental, I like when risqué dressers try something a little different and look good doing it. It gives their look more dimension.
I get the feeling that the reason why Nicole is everywhere this season is that her long term goal is another Oscar for either The Beguiled or Killing of a Sacred Deer.
I’d like to blame Nicole solely for this awful outfit, but I read an article with quotes from her Cannes stylist. Somebody got paid to do this to her. So, even with “help,” Nicole makes poor choices.
Like the bracelet. Like the shoes.

So Nicole’s look is not good, but I follow her makeup artist on Instagram (Lisa Eldridge) and I do love what she has done for her. Shame it’se overshadowed by everything else.
Nicole must have a new stylist because all of her Cannes dresses were awful. None of them were memorable. Plus her face is stiff!!
I love all those outfits. They are a little daring and some make the ladies look like they were attacked by a chicken. Nevertheless, I love them all

and Lara Stone comes within a whisker of pulling off that feathered mess Uncle Karl put on her. Like I know it’s a mess but I’m still admiring the feathers and her hair/legs/boobs…. I guess this is why we need models who aren’t those useless social media nepotism types and can actually work a dress.

When I look at Chanel’s collections/dresses/everything except the standard, classic Coco lines (suit, costume), it’s clear Karl Lagerfeld hates women, period. everything is ill fitting or designed to make the body look ill fitting.
I kind of like Nicole’s dress minus that odd pink belt, as if the dress wasn’t busy enough! Her hair was pulled way to tight!

This is my least favorite Nicole dress at Cannes.
I love her Dior dress, gorgeous & unusual which she wore at the photo call for the “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”. It has a lot of pretty visual interest and I think even museum worthy. The embroideries even looked like grass and moss.
Is Rita Ora very famous in the US? Because here in Europe she isn’t, and I can perfectly understand why: her whole music career and public “persona” are inconsistent. So it really surprises me to find her so often at important galas and celeb occasions.
Nicole Kidman will lose the last few strands of hair that is feebly hanging off of her botoxed head, if she doesn’t stop dyeing it that level

Nicole should never wear a top-knot so tight.. her hair are almost white/blonde and with her pale skin the effect is that she looks sort of bald.
Don’t like any of the dresses, they all look like they have noodles hanging off of them. Lara has an attitude and it’s refreshing in the sea of dead eyes and pulled faces at these type of events. I don’t like the shade of Nicole’s lipstick, I think it’s too harsh for her skin tone and hair. I’m imagining Rita’s hair with a bolder colour outfit- a royal blue pants-suit one-piece and strappy sandals with nude nails?
