Now Madonna wants to adopt from Nigeria

After Madonna’s bid to adopt Malawian Mercy James failed, Madge seemed a bit out of sorts. There was some talk that she would appeal, go back to Malawi, try, try again. But now, according to News of the World, Madge has her heart set on adopting from another African country – Nigeria. The problem seems to be that Nigeria’s foreign adoption system is just as tough as Malawi’s. But Madge has a plan! Not only is she sending in some friend as some kind of adoption-type canary in the coal mine, but Madge is going to try to prove that her boy-toy Jesus Luz could be a great father to an adopted child. Yeah, that was the problem with Mercy’s adoption, in Madge’s mind – “she blamed the fact that her relationship with Jesus made her look like she was going through some midlife crisis.” As opposed to proving definitively that she’s going through a mid-life crisis, I suppose. Oh, brother:

MADONNA is determined to go for an immaculate collection of kids by adopting an African baby with lover Jesus. The star has switched her efforts from Malawi to Nigeria, making inquiries at an orphanage in the city of Kaduna about a female tot.

The Material Girl was devastated when her bid to adopt a little girl called Mercy was rejected by a Malawi court in April. This time round she is involving model boyfriend Jesus Luz, 22, to prove he can act as a responsible father. A source close to the 50-year-old singer revealed: “She was distraught when her adoption failed in Malawi.”

“At the time she blamed the fact that her relationship with Jesus made her look like she was going through some midlife crisis. But now she’s looking at adoption centres in Nigeria and has got another female friend to make an initial approach to test the waters.”

“She’s determined not to make the same mistakes and feels that the only way to do this is to get Jesus involved from the off.” Madonna’s pal has made an approach to the Mercy Home Orphanage, which is home to 30 children.

Our source said: “Madonna is considering visiting, perhaps with Jesus, as soon as she can.”

But she may encounter problems similar to those she faced in Malawi, which ruled out adoption because she was not resident in the country. Adoptive parents who have not been resident in Nigeria for at least three months find the adoption process extremely difficult.

A source said: “Madonna has some of the best legal minds working for her and she’ll be pushing them to find a loophole.”

She’s determined to extend her family and provide a little sister for daughter Lourdes, 12, and sons Rocco, eight, and David, three, who she adopted in Malawi. The source continued: “Madonna always thought she would eventually win her battle to adopt Mercy, but that hasn’t been the case. She thinks this will bring her and Jesus together as one big happy family.”

Her friend added: “Failure is not an option. Madonna wouldn’t be able to take rejection for the second time.”

[From News of the World]

“Madonna has some of the best legal minds working for her and she’ll be pushing them to find a loophole”? Yeah, Madge only works with geniuses. I guess that’s why none of her brilliant legal minds sat Madonna down and said, “You know, there are countries you can adopt from where we don’t have to work overtime finding some obscure loophole.” I suppose it never occurred to Madge that she could actually adopt a child without creating a boatload of international controversy, cries of human trafficking and formal censures from children’s rights agencies. That’s just not how she rolls.

I guess the fact that she could adopt a fancy, spicy brown baby from right here in AMERICA very easily never crossed her mind?

Good God woman; get a clue–you ARE having a mid-life crisis! And, you’ve lost whatever bit of sense you may have had LONG AGO.

  2. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

WHY would you be “pushing to find a loophole” in a country’s adoption laws??? How incredibly arrogant and insulting is that?

Madonna really needs to take a tip from Angelina Jolie (what the heck, you know someone’s gonna mention her anyway) and adopt from countries in which international adoption is, I don’t know, ALLOWED. And legal.

Getting so sick of this woman. Why can’t she take her billions and just enjoy her life? She has three kids, two of them fairly young. Nannies to raise them. A very young little boy toy who we all know is not going to last. Why does she want another kid?

I am a huge fan of Madonna.its great she still wants to adopt.Kaduna is mostly an Islamic area and famous for Shiria law…this could end up as another Press Nightmare. I would suggest she should probabily go East/South Nigeria especially since they have more orphans and some parts of the agriculutral land has been ruined by oil exploration. Historical the South and East Nigeria give more rights to Women then the North…this is my 2 cents

Sweet Jesus. She needs locking up.

haha, shes so lame. if she really thinks that adopting a new baby from nigeria is getting her new family together shes behind every aspect of reality even a star can be. she reminds me more and more to michael jackson. and midlife crisis? shes been in that for almost ten years now. remember guy? he is remarkably younger too.

  6. Elle says:

How about the many children that are being orphaned as a result of genocide in Sudan. Hello? Can she please go to one of these countries and select a child? Why Africa? The list could go on and on as I have so many questions and doubt that I’ll ever receive an answer!

  7. Shay says:

She is really into buying little black kids. To bad those countries will even sell their little children. I believe the first slaves were sold by their on people.
    Guess not much has changed.

  8. overit says:

I don’t understand this obsession of hers with buying black babies from African countries. There are so many adoptable children from European countries, Latin America, even the US for chrissake – she’s trying desperately to adopt her way into being taken seriously and it’s just backfiring on her. I wish she’d just take her banal music and ugly personality and go away to do something REALLY worthwhile with her billions.

madge’s midlife crisis started back when she suddenly became “british” and starting writing children’s books.

  10. dubdub2000 says:

She’s starting to sound like those hunters who just want to hunt endangered species and that’s the whole point: that they are endangered ie that’s it’s illegal and you have to find some loophole or grease someones palm or just break the law to do whatever it is you want to do.
If she were that interested in adopting she would choose a country where it is legal to adopt. But then it would not be as interesting to talk about at her next cocktail party…

  11. paranel says:

She is passed mid life crisis. She is 51 years old. A bitch with no heart or regards for anything but herself. She is an Angelina wanna be and does not rest until she matches her baby for baby.

  12. lrm says:

    Um,Elle,SUDAN IS IN AFRICA!!!!
you suggested sudan, then asked ‘why africa’. Sudan is north africa, but still on the continent of africa.
americans; knowledge of geography is scary.

okay, but, yes, why can she not choose an Africa country where adoption is legal and do-able for a single woman? Ethiopia, for example? Sudan may not be so easy;it’s run by an Islamic gvmt and is at war-you don’t get to just run and and say ‘hey,i’m taking this orphan b/c you’re in a crisis’.

  13. Anoneemouse says:

    Another doll for her collection!

  14. Elle says:

Last time I checked I was well aware that Sudan is apart of Africa, after all I am half Nigerian (my father still lives there)! Secondly, I was wondering why she did not choose Sudan… the country has been at war for a very long time and I’m sure that there are plenty of children that are readily available for adoption. Why choose a country that has strict adoption policies if you want an African child so badly? Finally, I still want to know what her obsession with African orphans is, it doesn’t make sense to me.

Two of my co-workers have adopted children from Sudan without any issues at all and one of them is a gay, white male. So I don’t know where you’re getting your information from but I have two reliable sources to back up whatever I post!

@dubdub – took the words right out of my mouth!

  16. Eden says:

I love the way celebrities ignore the homeless and abused children in America that need loving homes. Oh wait, adopting a child in the United States wouldn’t advance their career or make them seem as passionate. Now, I understand. Am I bad?

  17. the original kate says:

“americans; knowledge of geography is scary.”

irm – knowledge of punctuation is scarier.

Ok put the kid down and let him walk. And you’re not in the UK anymore so ditch the hat.
