Chrissy Teigen spins on ballet pointe shoes, says she does more dangerous things

Chrissy Teigen is snapping back at commenters who disapprove of her latest social media post so it must be… a day ending in ‘y’. This latest brouhaha is curtesy of this little video Chrissy posted to Instagram on Saturday. The video show Chrissy, who is being assisted by husband John Legend, turning on her toes in Ballet pointe shoes (Caution – Loud F-Bomb)

She also posted the video to Twitter and followed it with this tweet:

Because it was on social media, people commented on it. A few people complimented Chrissy for doing as well as she did for being a novice. But many, including several real ballerinas, let Chrissy know that playing on pointe shoes is dangerous for those who haven’t worked their way up to them. And you know why? Because it’s dangerous to twirl on pointe shoes if you haven’t trained. But Chrissy didn’t care for the comments telling her to be careful so she sent out this tweet:

Usually I don’t get very worked up about Chrissy and her online battles. If she wants to have them, that’s between her and her followers. Many times I do think Chrissy calls out things that need calling out and I generally find her funny. Granted this is one of her lesser beefs and it’s just not that big of a deal, but I do find it kind of dumb. I took ballet for seven years as a child and I never got on pointe. (I didn’t say I was any good.) We constantly begged the upper school ballerinas to let us try their shoes and they, along with the teachers, just wouldn’t consider it. You can mess up your ankles and more, that’s just fact. So, no, it’s not a big deal that Chrissy wanted to take a turn on her pointe shoes while her husband helped her. But it is also not a big deal that some ballerinas cautioned about doing it again so I don’t know why she would even address it. I need Kaiser’s shoulder-shrug emoticon here because when Chrissy does this kind of thing, it lends some credence to the arguments that she fishes for fights online.

Chrissy gave less controversial comments to Extra about how many kids she’d like to have. According to Chrissy, her hope is for three, “My number has always been four, as much time as this all takes, three I would be totally happy with, four would be pushing the boundaries…Three would be really great.” Chrissy is also not worrying about her post-partum coming back with future pregnancies because, as she said, “It’s not going to be worse,” which is a good way to look at it. Once you know what to expect, should it happen again, at least you’re mentally prepared.

But she should stay off those pointe shoes because tendon damage and three babies doesn’t work well together.

Unless she has a time machine, so she can have baby #3 when she’s younger than when she had baby #1, I can tell her that, as a mom of 3 … It does get worse. Wouldn’t trade my kids for anything, including my pre-baby body, but, wow, cumulative damage of 120 weeks of pregnancy and 3 births do take a greater toll than 40 + 1.

Also, be prepared to show pretty much as soon as the egg is fertilized. My first pregnancy I didn’t wear maternity clothes until month 7. My second, month 2. It was ridiculous.

    • SKF says:

I think she’s specifically referring to post-partum depression here – not anything else related to kids and pregnancy.

      • S says:

Ah, yes, I somehow read right past the depression part of it. So sorry, wasn’t trying to make light.

      • derpshooter says:

I agree that she is talking about her PPD, on the other hand PPD absolutely gets worse as you age/have more. That’s a basic fact that is easily googlable.
During my 3rd pregnancy a special note was put in my records to watch for PPD signs during my third trimester: yeah, PPD can show up before you give birth once you’ve had it even one time. Not only does it get more serious, but you can have a sudden spike in severity. My Ob/Gyn had another note in my records to keep major anti-psychotics at the ready in the hospital once I gave birth in case I suddenly went crazy – PPD can give you a psychotic break.
So, in closing, she is wrong and people in general do not know as much as they think they know about PPD.

Uh yea I thought it was dumb of her to get mad about people commenting. As someone that did pointe for YEARS you have to do so much conditioning before even beginning. You can snap an ankle and tear tendons very easily. They are not things to mess with.
My feet are still a mess from my pointe shoes. Worth it though.

    • Esmom says:

That’s amazing. Like her I have always been entranced and fascinated by ballerinas en pointe. Reading biographies of famous ballerinas was a hobby of mine for a while and I scoured the library for any books about ballet I could get my hands on.

I’d guess messing around with the shoes once is ok but it does seem to trivialize how many years and years of hard work actual ballet dancers put into it.

      • Nicole says:

I mean I’m not offended…I just think its stupid. Its so easy to break something in pointe shoes. Sometimes she just needs to LISTEN to what people are saying

  3. Yeahright says:

This chick lives for any kind of attention and wants to get snappy when people comment?
    You asked for it!
You would perish if people ignored you.
    Ugh! Go away!

  4. Lucy2 says:

I’m actually glad that experienced ballerinas commented, hopefully they’re warning prevent anyone else from foolishly trying this.
I did 10 years of dance in my younger days, only attempted pointe once, and that was enough for me.

  5. magnoliarose says:

I did ballet and modern dance until around 11 or 12 and let’s just say I wasn’t on the fast track to securing a future as a soloist anywhere on this planet. When I quit no one urged me to keep reaching for my dream. It was like Yeah well good luck in life.

Chrissy isn’t alive unless she can get defensive and indignant. Ballerina feet are battered and bruised they are trying to help her from breaking her ankle or ripping something painful. She acts like one of my children when they want to do something risky and insist on doing it against my warning. When they get hurt they pretend for a second that all is well and then the floodgates.

  6. littlemissnaughty says:

Oh god, I can’t roll my eyes hard enough. First of all, she does this for attention. Second of all, she did it ONCE. That we know of. Is it advisable? No. But one time on pointe isn’t going to ruin her feet. The warnings apply for girls who dance and whose feet are not prepared or who are simply too young. Who do this regularly. Yeah, then it can cause damage. This isn’t more dangerous than stilettos you’ve never worn.

But … 100 bone-breaking things she attempts daily? Girl, your life is soooo dangerous, we get it.

    • Jamieee says:

It’s not going to ruin her feet, but she could easily break an ankle or tear a tendon.

It’s not just about feet, and no one was really worried about that kind of damage. The issue is that when dancers dance en pointe, they’re relying on the muscles they’ve built and conditioned in their legs and core to help support them. If you don’t have that conditioning, you rely on your toes too much, and they aren’t strong enough if you aren’t extremely careful in how you move. Your foot can easily give out under you and result in a really, really nasty break. Or you can tear your Achilles.

It’s not really the same as heels. Or rather, it’s like if the first time you ever wore heels, you went for the highest stilletos you could find and then tried to run.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

She. Did. It. Once. She broke nothing and plenty of young dancers can’t wait and throw on old pointe shoes without any supervision. The vast majority breaks nothing. I have witnessed women break their ankle wearing heels. And they weren’t wearing them for the first time. I’m saying people need to relax about a grown woman who did this one time. I always get the impression that dancers are some of the more judgmental people on Instagram etc. Maybe because they feel like amateurs don’t belong in their world but the amount of detailed and unrequested “advice” is exhausting. People do stupid things. Let them be stupid.

  7. Originaltessa says:

I very much doubt she was en pointe. I bet her toes were bent. A lot less dangerous.

  8. Louise says:

If you are on social media, people are going to comment, neh?

  9. Birdix says:

Ah, she did fine. Less potential for injury than roller skates or a skateboard…

  10. Blaire Carter says:

Why does she even have them? You have to be fitted…odd

  11. yyu says:

    Why is she famous again?

The only person who is more useless and thirsty than the kartrashians… her whole entire career is Instagram, right? What a loser.
