US Weekly: Stephanie Pratt claims ‘The Hills’ made her bulimic

usmagazinestephaniepratt

US Weekly finally put out a cover that doesn’t have anything to do with the Gosselins. Thank God. But I’m not sure this week’s story is any better. It’s an “exclusive” interview with Stephanie Pratt (sister of professional douchenozzle Spencer Pratt), who claims that “The Hills” made her bulimic. Correction – Stephanie is not claiming that anyone who works behind-the-scenes on “The Hills” told her to lose weight, or to lose weight in an unhealthy way. Stephanie is saying that she began to binge and purge after seeing how skinny the other Hills girls were.

The sub-headings of the cover story are: The Agony of Working With ‘Skinny Girls’; 5,000 Calorie-a-Day Binging; and How She Tried To Kill Herself. The interview excerpt doesn’t say that much about all of that, though. It’s basically about how Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge are very skinny (which is true, although LC has a “healthy skinny” look) and Stephanie felt “big” in comparison to them:

Hills star Stephanie Pratt opens up for the first time in the new issue of Us Weekly about hating her body and her terrifying secret struggle with bulimia — sparked, she says, by the pressure of appearing alongside her super-thin friends on the hit MTV reality show.

The 5-foot-7 23-year-old reveals she began bingeing and purging after watching a scene she shot with Lauren Conrad in 2007 after first joining the cast: “I was horrified. I remember saying, ‘I can’t believe how huge I look walking over to Lauren.'”

Another time, when filming in Hawaii in bikinis, the size 0-2 Pratt –- in a bikini and cover-up — asked costar Audrina Patridge, “What looks better, ‘shirt on or off?'” Patridge said ‘On.'” Says Pratt, “The producers never put pressure on us to lose weight,” but adds, “It’s embarrassing working with skinny girls.”

It really seems like Stephanie was possibly “encouraged” to develop an eating disorder because she already had body-image issues that were heightened when she began “working” with Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge. I’m not trying to criticize Stephanie or make light of her eating disorder, but if the objective of this cover is to come clean, shouldn’t Stephanie also acknowledge her own responsibility for her psychological issues and her own culpability with binging and purging, and not just participate in a cover that entirely blames “The Hills”?

And this story deserves a cover because….?

  2. Susette says:

    She’s a prat. Enough said.

  3. BiggieShortie says:

I can’t believe the stupidity of her blaming the show.
If she didn’t have such vapid, superficial goals to be “famous” and perceptions of herSELF…..

And like someone else just pointed out: She’s a PRATT. That does say it all.

  4. Tammy says:

Ugh!!! Make these people go away!!

  5. guest says:

    right.

  6. CiCi says:

it’s always someone else’s fault. sigh. it couldn’t at ALL be her insecurities and weakness. o well.

i am so sick of those pseudo reality people. i’m embarassed to admit i actually subscribe to US – but i’m done now after their ridiculous run on Jon and Kate, and the amt of press devoted to any Lo or Lauren that may exist.

  7. eggy weggs says:

I’ll bet Weatherman has something to do with this.

  8. ash says:

    This girl is severely stupid.

Did anyone see Spencer and Heidi on Jimmy Fallon the other night? Spencer was beyond creepy with his slight whispering. That whole family is insane.

  9. bob lawblaw says:

one might also think that a girl with body image issues like this, might prefer to be posing in a cardigan and chinos, instead of a tiny-ass bikini.

something tells me she comes from the same school of PR as her douche brother:
“Anything that gets your face on something.”

  10. OXA says:

She chose to throw up, just like I chose to throw up at her cover.

  11. TaylorB says:

This may not be bulemia in the traditional sense, and not to belittle the disease at all, but think about it, if you were related to Spencer Pratt and Heidi whats-her-face you might be inclined to vomit every day as well.

  12. Annie says:

While I understand that Bulimia/Anorexia are truly psychological diseases. I find it very annoying that the “sufferers” tend to blame something else.

It’s never their choice to not eat or purge. Of course not. It’s society’s right?

I think people need to be held more accountable for their actions and frankly, I’m sick and disgusted by the whole thing. How nice it is for us to have the luxury to choose if we eat(then purge) or don’t eat. When others do not.

  13. Jeane says:

Whatever Stephanie Pratt. Your face makes me boulimic.

  14. Cathy says:

If you want us to feel sorry for the pressure put on you, don’t pose in a bikini. Now we have one more “starlet” on the cover of a magazine that makes others feel pressured to be thin. Good work, Pratt. If you really had sympathy for anyone suffering from the disease you would refrain from posing in that.

  15. Razan says:

    She has very beautiful eyes.

  16. Ana says:

Does anyone get reminded of Ashlee Simpson?

  17. Zoe (The Other One) says:

    Snore.

    Who is this nobody?

The magic loom made her do it.

  18. Sauronsarmy says:

Yeah well, The Hills makes me throw up, weres my cover US weekly?

LOL I think that last thing a recovering bulimic would do is pose for a magazine cover in a damn bikini.

  19. bros says:

im paying for the day someone in this family actually succeeds at offing themselves. one less pratt.

  20. Ana says:

Zoe (The Other One) I believe I am falling in love with you! haha

“The magic loom made her do it.”

  21. Annicka says:

I’d throw up all the time if I was on The Hills too. Moreso if I was related to Spencer Pratt.

  22. Annie says:

ROFL @ Zoe (the other one)

  23. Nony says:

Honey, if you had real body image issues, you wouldn’t be posing in a bikini.

  24. Kylie says:

    NO MORE PRATTS!!!!!!!!!
FAR OUT THESE PEOPLE ARE WORSE THAN SWINE FLU – THEY JUST WONT GO AWAY!

  25. BlueSkies says:

Kaiser, find something else to write about. Show some talent and boycott any one of these Pratt people. You can do it.Right?

  26. Kendallaaaa says:

seriously, all of you idiots, stfu. you know absolutely nothing about the issue, i have dealt with it my whole life, and also have seen many members of my fam. deal with it too. it doesnt matter how good ur self esteem is, when ur in the public eye, and everyone is critisizing your body, and many are telling you your fat, you start to believe it, anyone is vulnerable to it,i completely feel for her, and jst lookng at her situation i feel i can relate, she is bigger and she has sufferd some body issues, but thats not her fault, she jst has to learn to accept herself. its one of the hardest addictions to beat, bc yu can quit a drug addiction cold turkey, but you have to eat food on a daily basis. so sersly give her a brake.
