Allison Williams in Ulyana Sergeenko at the Producers Guild Awards: stunning?

29th Annual Producers Guild Awards - Arrivals

In the scope of all of the conversations in Hollywood these days, it feels slightly strange that The Shape of Water is sort of quietly marching towards the Best Picture Oscar, right? It’s often said that the guild awards are the best indicators of where the Oscar race will end up, and The Shape of Water won the big prize at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. I’m not saying The Shape of Water is a bad movie – I haven’t seen it yet – but it does seem odd that a fantasy-drama film about a “mute” woman and her love for a tortured fish-man would be so universally beloved (of course, on paper, Pan’s Labyrinth shouldn’t work either but that film is incredible).

Other notable PGA Award winners included Jordan Peele picking up the Stanley Kramer Award for Get Out, and using his speech to talk about the real-life Sunken Place (the Trump presidency). Ava DuVernay won the Visionary Award, and Patty Jenkins picked up the David O. Selznick Achievement Award for Wonder Woman. You can read more about the PGAs here. Here are some of the fashion photos from the event, which was technically a “daytime” event but most people were in evening/cocktail dress. Allison Williams wore an Ulyana Sergeenko jumpsuit. I kind of love it?

The 2018 PGA Awards

Tracee Ellis Ross in Tory Burch. I love her, but it looks like she’s wearing a repurposed Indian wall hanging.

Margot Robbie in Louis Vuitton. I’m not feeling this, but I’m rarely feeling anything from LV.

29th Annual Producers Guild Awards - Arrivals

Mary J. Blige in Elie Saab. She looks amazing and I almost always hate yellow gowns.

Producers Guild Awards 2018

Gal Gadot in a custom Armani Prive. This is… pretty and also sort of meh.

The 2018 PGA Awards

Kerry Washington in Paolo Sebastian Couture. I love this. This is one of my favorite dresses from Kerry in a long time.

The 2018 PGA Awards

Reese Witherspoon in Dolce & Gabbana. Why are people still wearing D&G? I don’t know. I hate to say this though, but this is a cute dress.

Greta Gerwig in Monse. She looks good. I love the color.

    They all look awful.

    • Lolo86lf says:

Unfortunately most of them do not look that great. I zoomed in on the pictures and the fabrics and/or designs are not up to par. Kerry’s dress is so busy it almost hurt the eye. Gal’s dress is a wrinkly inexpensive fabric. Margot’s dress is just not good.

    • Pandy says:

Yikes, mostly they do! I don’t mind Greta, Kerry and Allison … but that’s about it. Lukewarm. The rest are shite. Reese in particular with her beige t shirt bra. Good grief.

  2. Lexilla says:

I try not to comment on other wonen’s bodies, but I can’t help this: I’d appreciate Allison Williams’ fashion a lot more if she were at a healthier weight again.

    • Lenn says:

Same here. She was almost unrecognizable at the SAG awards. So extremely thin.

    • Slowsnow says:

I understand the sadness about her body as she had such a beautiful and fresh look at the beginning of Girls, but it’s her choice. 🤷🏻‍♀️
She clearly wants to be rail thin; she’s not the only one. She’s like Posh and so many others in the way that she does not seem to stand having an ounce of fat on her body. Calling this unhealthy is a bit of a stretch though. We have no idea if she’s in good health or not – maybe she eats better than you and me, works out and is very disciplined.

      • Lexilla says:

Good point slowsnow. “Healthier” might be the wrong word. I don’t know the story behind her transformation. I just know it’s uncomfortable to praise her fashion/appearance. Mom of daughters here, trying to change a cycle of valuation my mom passed on to me.

      • Slowsnow says:

Thanks for your response @Lexilla! I have an 18 year old daughter and suddenly I noticed that I was going the other extreme, claiming never to have been on a diet (which is true) but not sharing with her the fact that I am careful with my figure, I exercise to feel good but also to look good and I am careful with what I eat.
It’s a difficult balance with kids especially because anorexia is rampant.

I get it. You do worry about your kids and what you pass onto them.

I did tell my daughter that I loved her body in the beginning of Girls. She was the one who corrected me saying that if she wanted to be that way, fine. And that we should stop talking about people’s figure, especially when a show provides such different standards and all of them as ok…
My point is: I guess our example is key bc she told me what I just told you 🙂 You’ll probably be fine with your girls since you evaluate yourself and adjust.

      • Lexilla says:

Slowsnow, if your daughter looked at a super skinny starlet and said that’s just one way to be, and it happens to be what the starlet wants to look like, I’m very encouraged about the next generation. We come from a time when that is a beauty standard many of us try and fail to meet. (I dare say we’re still there.) But I’m glad to hear your story! Hope the same for my daughters.

    • Shutterbug99 says:

I said the same when I saw pictures of her at the SAG awards. She looks positively skeletal these days. Same goes for the girl from Stranger Things who looks very unhealthy.

    • Lucy says:

Whaaaat? She’s not that thin at all , just normal skinny ?

    • MoCO says:

I only like this jumpsuit because it covers so much of her shoulders and upper arms and you can’t see how crazy skinny they are right now.

  3. BooRadley says:

Grey’s dress is the most decadent, MJB would have looked much better without the belt. But I agree on a whole they’re all pretty awful

  4. Xi Tang says:

Is Greta as tall as she looks in pictures? This dress looks great on her.

  5. Annabelle Bronstein says:

Margot Robbie… that LV dress is so 80s prom! Bedazzled halter straps, just no.

Whoever did… whatever that is to poor Reese’s chest should be banished to wherever Project Runway rejects go once they are auf’d. Absolutely atrocious.

PS don’t zoom in on Kerry’s feet.

    • ravynrobyn says:

Margot Robbie’s hair looks so flat & greasy, I didn’t even notice her dress. If she wore her hair up & sleek it would have looked so much better.

  6. Slowsnow says:

    I LOVE Allison William’s outfit.

  7. magnoliarose says:

I almost like Kerry and Allison’s looks. I think that is too much dress for Kerry but I love the print, but I would prefer it as a kimono coat.

  8. BlanktFort says:

Gal’s dress is giving me major late 1990s flashbacks.

  9. Lala says:

I love the jumpsuit, cause…I LOVE JUMPSUITS…I just wish the legs were tighter….she got the hair/makeup on point…everybody else….NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  10. tracking says:

AW and Reese look fabulous. Good look on Greta as well.

  11. will says:

No surprise Allison has an eating disorder playing that dreadful part in Girls.

  12. PlayItAgain says:

I obviously don’t ‘get’ fashion, because I don’t care for any of these outfits. And that leather jumpsuit thingy is the worst.

  13. Sarah says:

Tory Burch always always always fails.

  14. DiegoInSF says:

It’s not strange if you’ve seen it. The Shape of Water should win all the awards.

  15. I Choose Me says:

Allison and Mary take it. Oh Tracee, I love that you take fashion risks but this one is just nagl.

  16. Nikki says:

The costumey bust of the jumpsuit ruins it for me. I disliked every one of these dresses, and Reese’s silly see-through boring basic was not good. I liked the color of Greta Gerwig’s dress on her, but it had such cheap tailoring and bad styling. I feel like any random 5 Celebitchy readers could have done better than these gals with their professional stylists; what gives??

  17. Debutante says:

    The leather jumpsuit is great.
    The rest suck.
Mary j. Blige needs to lift up that saggy rack. She looks sloppy.
