As much as I was hoping for an upset in the Best Actress category, I came into this evening feeling pretty strongly that Frances McDormand would take it. And she did. I’m not going to say Saoirse Ronan or Margot Robbie were ROBBED, but that’s mostly because I think both of those women will be back and they’ll have their time. I didn’t like Three Billboards, that’s no secret, but I thought Frances’s performance elevated a sub-par script, and she is now – and always has been – an exception, singular talent.
Whenever Frances has won anything during this awards season, I get the feeling that people are always on edge about what she could say. So when she won and announced “I’ve got some things to say!” people were like “OMG what is she going to do.” But then after she thanked her director and her family, she did something wonderful – she got every nominated woman in the room to stand up and applaud for themselves, and then she told the men in the room to take meetings with all of these women. So go ahead and Google “inclusion rider.”

That was AMAZING!
That is a running joke from Kimmel’s show that has been going on for years.
He says that every night on his show as his closing remark. It’s a long standing joke between the two. That’s one of his best friends; definitely was not a dig to Matt despite the talk around him and his comments on abuse in Hollywood.
Nah, it wasn’t shade. Jimmy Kimmel is friends with Matt. That’s his standard line after every show. I kind of find it hard to believe that he’s mean-spirited towards Matt. He made fun of Matt last year also.
I agree. He doesn’t understand what many many women, not just the women on this site, think of Matt. Not quite there yet.
Matt is one of his best friends, sadly.
BEST part of the whole show. I loved it. I loved it more than the Matt Damon-fest we got last year at the Oscars. This was absolutely perfect and the joke was well delivered.
I thought that it was funny. For God’s sake his ex did I’m Effing Matt Damon.
I was rooting for Saoirse but her speech was great.
I’m glad she took her moment and made it about something larger than herself.
Thoroughly impressed with Saoirse & Margot and agree that they hopefully have long, rewarding careers ahead of them.

So my question is what is an inclusion contract? Could it be that that every female lead makes what the male lead makes. Cause if I was an actress in Hollywood with any clout, that is totally what I would do.
Forget about the re-shoots, Michelle Williams made $625K for her base pay on that movie. Markie Mark made $5MM before he extorted another 1.5MM. That’s right he was paid 10X what she was.. F’ing joke.
I felt like Frances was almost bored during this awards season, but wow, she was saving the best for last. That was a beautiful speech, beautiful moment. Three Billboards is problematic, but Frances is not. Standing … slow clapping …

She was great in this film for sure but I wanted Sally Hawkins to win. They were both great but Sally was amazing in The Shape of Water which IMO deserved the win more than Frances, Margot and Saoirse.
I really really really wanted Sally Hawkins to win but Frances’ acceptance speech gave me LIFE.
Thank eff that Robbie didn’t win! I will never watch a movie that glorifies Harding and will NEVER support Robbie in that role – and I’m Australian. I would spoil my ballot than vote for anyone associated with that movie, on principle. Do one on Nancy Kerrigan, THAT I will support!
Agree. Tonya got glorified despite her horrible act against Kerrigan.
This speech redeemed her from when she accepted her SAG award and was like “Representation (long pause)” and then started talking about her agents, which was just comically bad lol
But her speech tonight was fantastic and it will be remembered for a long, long time.
I thought they all should have won.
I wasn’t as taken by her speech as everyone else. I liked her just fine, I liked some of the points she hit, and I thought a lot of the stuff she talked about was good. But her whole mannerism on stage felt a bit put-on for me, like she was trying really hard to be “out there” even though she knew, as well as anyone else, that she was probably going to win the award.
For me, one of the most touching moments of the Oscars was when the actress from the Best Short Film winner, Rachel Shenton, signed her acceptance speech as she gave it because she promised the little girl who starred in the film with her (who happens to be deaf) that she would.

I did too. I like her and I thought her message was good, but she got carried away, lol. Winning is probably more overwhelming than we can imagine, even if they’re prepared for it – I think everyone goes somewhat prepared – but there were times when I thought she laying it on thick.
If I loved Frances before, I do more now. Her speech was the best of the night and her win was totally deserved.

…this is what I noticed…the complete absence of Brie Larsen… she was everywhere last year…& this year its like she dropped off the planet…
I have no idea why and it was completely unexpected, but I found myself almost a little choked up at her speech. I’m not a choked up or teary kind of person, but something about the things she said… It was lovely.
