Gal Gadot got a Reebok endorsement deal: great choice?

Right after becoming a global ambassador with Revlon, Gal Gadot has landed a Reebok contract as well. Gal will star in their latest Be More Human campaign, which is designed to inspire people to push themselves further in their training. The campaign is geared towards showing how training enhances everyone’s day-to-day activities regardless of profession or lifestyle.

The 32-year-old mother of two, who also recently became a global brand ambassador for Revlon, is starring in Reebok’s latest campaign in order to share the spirit of the brand’s “Be More Human” motto, which aims to inspire women everywhere to embrace fitness – which she’s been doing since a young age.

“Working out has always been a big part of my life, especially with having a mother who was a P.E. teacher, I was exposed to an active lifestyle from an early age,” Gadot shared in a press release. She joins Gigi Hadid, Victoria Beckham and Ariana Grande as partners for the brand. In the images, Gadot wears a lineup of leggings, tops and sports bras in a sophisticated black-and-white palette.

For the star, exercise isn’t just about staying in shape. It’s also a source of empowerment and self-esteem, she explains.

“Through fitness, I have found that I gain strength, endurance and confidence, and I couldn’t imagine a better partner than Reebok to join me on this journey.”

[From People]

I didn’t know that Gal’s mother was a PE teacher, that only cements Gal as a great choice for this campaign. The emphasis on her figure has been more about her strength than just being thin and that’s what these ads promote – strength, not weight loss. Plus, in the ads’ fitness montages, the workouts are monsters – superhuman, if you will. But then they cut to the same folk in day clothes doing everyday things – kind of like Diana Prince when she’s not Wonder Woman. That’s cute.

    Excellent choice!

  2. LittleWing says:

Good for her! I’d love to see Danai Gurira get a similar deal.

  3. Rapunzel says:

Wasn’t Gal a physical trainer when she did her mandatory Israeli military service? She’s a perfect fit with athletic shoes. Great deal.

I don’t like it when actors endorse brands. I like my actors mysterious so that I can suspend my disbelief when I watch them be scientists, murderers, spies, superheroes etc.

The other day I saw Blanchett in a stupid ad for a perfume (as they all are) and my heart sunk.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Blanchett has been with Armani for a long time, right? I loathe that commercial. I loathe all perfume commercials because they are so stupid and when “serious” actors do them, they look THAT much more stupid. But beauty ads in general are the bane of my existence.

I don’t mind actors getting endorsement deals as long as it’s a good fit. Sometimes I wonder how that comes to be though. I mean, how is Kristen Stewart a good fit for Chanel???

      • Slowsnow says:

I guess she has been with Armani for a while perhaps. I hate ads, and beauty ads in particular too so I don’t pay much attention. With Blanchett it seemed so off because she always seems above it all and then there she was. I had second-hand embarrassment.

Bc I don’t pay much attention to ads, the ones with faces I know jump up to me in a negative way: the only ones I enjoyed were FKA TWIGs and Rihanna because like it or not, they have a sense of style that designers are borrowing from and they are singers. The rest are just trying to get my attention unduly and it gets on my every nerve.

The ads are all about connection, dressing stars for red carpets and so on. I don’t find it very mysterious. Stewart has a down-to-earth natural beauty and wicked style that goes well with both Chanel and Lagerfeld I guess. Plus, apparently, they are friends. Y know, I know, why I am aware of this?!

Not gonna lie, I enjoy Natalie Portman in her Dior beauty ads. Her FACE. Almost made me buy those liquid lipsticks but I don’t look like a photoshopped Portman so I refrained.

The skincare ones drive me nuts. I don’t buy magazines anymore and I barely watch TV (Netflix is a problem, I need help) so the ones I see are in department stores or drugstores. NO wrinkles on a face that’s been blown up across a wall. GTFO.

      • Slowsnow says:

“NO wrinkles on a face that’s been blown up across a wall. GTFO.” IKR?? their skin seems to have the consistency of the paper or material they’re printed on. WTF.
Portman I also find so so pretty.
I also need help bc of Netflix. Addicted.

Actresses take side gigs cos they aren’t payed as much as actors. Sometimes it’s a good fit. Like this one, cos Gal is in top shape. Other times its a disaster. Lawrence and Dior… Stewart and Chanel… I do like Armani and Cate.

      • Slowsnow says:

@Milla, come on. Actors take side gigs too.

      • Milla says:

        Slowsnow

They do. But its like every actress has to have side gig. While for men it is optional. And they don’t have expiration date. Remember Depp and Savage?

      • littlemissnaughty says:

They don’t have to do this. They do make a ton of money, regardless of how much more men make. They could live off of that quite well. Compare them to me and they certainly don’t have to sell their faces. I don’t begrudge them the opportunity, I just wish it wasn’t so random sometimes and the ads were better. Especially for women.

I remember Skarsgard doing Calvin Klein and I thought “What? Where does that come from?” And the commercial … I’m sorry, short film, was crap as well. He should get a beer company to hire him. Kristen Stewart should shill for Chucks or something.

      • Slowsnow says:

@Milla, I don’t understand you point because what I see is that these fashion houses / brands take on very famous people who have no problem making money. I.e., the actresses that are still working like Mirren, Blanchett, Emma Stone (with Vuitton now), etc.
Men also take on these contracts such as Theroux, Depp, Pitt, Hiddleston, etc. I don’t see your point re: Depp, who’s completely delusional about his money and also not in need of work per se – unfortunately.
Stars who are high and low in the spectrum take on these kinds of deals all the time. They are called because people are obsessed with stars and celebs. You immediately see people here saying they’ll buy the frigging product just bc Gadot is doing these ads. I don’t think it’s about having side gigs at all but about creating a brand that will get you gigs at best. This does not mean that certain people in need of cash will not do this for that reason but I don’t believe it’s the majority of the cases.

      • Veronica says:

I was gonna say…I’m pretty sure she’s been repping Armani for a long time. She’s always in the ads when I hit the counter at Nordstroms.

This, honestly, is one of the few things I won’t begrudge actresses. The fashion and beauty deals are one of the few ways they can try to bridge the pay and work gap with men in the industry.

  5. megs283 says:

Ah. she is so cool. I actually want to buy Reebok now? I think this is the first time a celeb endorsement has made me feel that way!

    • BitingPanda says:

Same. It totally worked, I was like, “Well, I guess I have to go buy Reebok’s now.” I felt instantly programmed. A mindless consumer, just doing her job! Such is they hypnotic power of Gal.

    • Darla says:

Me too. And actually I want those exact sneakers she’s wearing in the header picture.

  6. Velvet Elvis says:

I didn’t even realize Reebok was still a thing. I never see anyone wear it anymore and haven’t really noticed it in stores.

    • Dee says:

All these brands are coming back! New balance, Sauconys, Reebok. I haven’t seen Sauconys since 2000 until last week at finish line. I did a double take like what?!

  7. Grant says:

I love her! Time to buy some Reeboks!

  8. kathleen says:

Ok fine. I’ll be the contrarian here. No, I don’t think she’s a great choice. I’m tired of fitness brands only having supermodels as their brand ambassadors. It’s not that I doubt Gadot’s fitness but I’m tired of “fitness” only looking like the same body over and over. It would be most powerful and motivating to me if they would have tried to diversify the bodies that represent their motto. They already have Nina Dobrev repping for them and she’s got a similar body to Gadot–extremely tall and thin. Victoria and Gigi and Ariana are rail thin too. Where is the body diversity? Sorry but I don’t worship the ground this woman walks on like some of you here. I like her but my fitness role models are not supermodels.

    • Frosty says:

+1. I’d bet most women buying athletic shoes are *not* athletes. I’d like to see more age diversity too. Who would you like to see?

      • kathleen says:

The thing is…..I’m not even saying Gadot isn’t fit because of course she is! I’m just exhausted with our ONLY images of “fit” women in Hollywood being extremely conventionally thin. And we seem to never be able to have this conversation because people jump all over you and accuse you of body shaming the minute you try and talk about this. It’s not body shaming to acknowledge that we only have one acceptable view of what “fitness” means (conventionally thin and feminine) and that these brands like Reebok further endorse it and solidify it by only hiring young women with basically the same body as their brand ambassadors.

I would like to see women over 40. (Points to Beckham in that regard even though she is very thin.) I would like to see more black women with diverse bodies. Lupita would frankly be a better brand ambassador than Gadot because at least her legs and arms are not so thin and are more attainable for most women. I would like to see women who wear a size 12 or 14 but are intensely fit. I get that this is a larger Hollywood problem but it’s a problem nonetheless.

    • Pandy says:

Agree! What about an actual ATHLETE, not an actress/model?? That would be inspirational to me.

  9. Nicegirl says:

Omg it’s working on me, too!!! I’m like, welp, gotta get me some wonder woman reeboks and get my arse moving.

    I love Gal.

  10. Mar says:

Reebok sucks- I still won’t buy it

  11. Xi Tang says:

I love how we all ignore the fact that she supported the war on Gaza, justifying it with a hashtag “#weareright” lol.
For a place that likes to complain about Hollywood hypocrisy and cancelling anyone who has ever interacted with Woody Allen, you sure as hell glossing over this lady’s bs.

    • kayla says:

You mean the one that Hamas started when they first kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teenagers and then shot rockets into the country? Feel free to move to a country that doesn’t protect its own citizens if you’re so outraged by a country acting in self-defense.

      • Xi Tang says:

No that is not what I meant.
You’re nuts if you think it started because Hamas kidnapped those boys.
Also one can also make the case for Palestinians protecting themselves from constant israeli aggression. But sure lets deflect and ignore the reason for which Palestinians throw rocks.
You’re another one full of sh*t.
