Blind item: which ‘Avengers’ actor was a complete douchebag to a Collider reporter?

Avengers Infinity War Fan Event - Arrivals

Today’s blind item comes from an entertainment journalist! Collider reporter Stephen Weintraub was one of many, many reporters to attend this weekend’s press junket for Avengers: Infinity War. To be clear: Marvel junkets are general a model of professionalism. Occasionally, on past media tours, various cast members get a bit punch-drunk and start calling Black Widow a “slut” but generally speaking, the Marvel-organized junkets and press tours are well-oiled machines. For Avengers: Infinity War, I’ve been wondering though… it seems like there really has been a lack of advanced press. Part of that is because Marvel knows they have a huge monster film which will make billions of dollars regardless of any junket. Part of that might also be because some of the cast members are douchebags who don’t belong around people.

So this is what Weintraub tweeted… and then deleted hours later:

Just experienced the worst interview i’ve ever been part of in 12 years of reporting in Hollywood. I sat down & one of the actors then proceeded to be a complete f–king a–hole to me for 4 min and treated me like sh-t on the ground. Will never forget what happened.

The interview went so bad the studio apologized to me and also pulled the cards to make sure no one could ever see the video of what happened. If you saw the way he treated me you would lose all respect for the person. Completely unprofessional. Publicist should have stopped it.

a lot of people are asking me to name who was an a–hole today but it’s not going to happen. I’ve said everything I’m going to say about it. The tweet before this about a story tomorrow is just a normal @collider story

[From Weintraub’s deleted tweets]

This reminds me of the time a reporter went on Twitter to call out Tom Hardy for being a massive douchebag during the junket for The Revenant. That time, there was no mistake about it: the journalist called out Hardy by name and detailed all the ways in which he was a giant a–hole. My guess is that Marvel’s studio press team spoke to Weintraub after he tweeted this – and I CANNOT BELIEVE they took his “cards” (his tapes). So Weintraub deleted the tweets and tweeted this:

So, who was it? Weintraub did say (before the tweet-and-deletes) that the a–hole was NOT Josh Brolin. Jeremy Renner also isn’t junket-ing for this movie, because Hawkeye apparently isn’t even in it. Chris Evans is currently on Broadway, so he’s not sitting in a hotel room in the middle of a junket. Other outlets say that the cast members who were on this junket were: Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Mackie, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Bautista, Don Cheadle and Chris Pratt. Was Robert Downey Jr. there? Because I think he would be a good contender if he was there. I’m thinking it probably was NOT Ruffalo… or Cumberbatch… or Hiddleston. Not because they’re my faves or anything, but because they have good reputations for how they treat the press. I don’t know…. Maybe Sebastian Stan? Anthony Mackie? Chris Pratt? Those are my three guesses.

My money’s on Sebastian Stan, only because we saw him at a Con recently and it was the worst panel ever. He was monosyllabic at best and gave off such an air of hating the whole thing & everyone there. Maybe IRL he’s an angel that rescues kittens from trees and takes soup to shut-ins…but he was a douche at the Con.

    • H says:

Really? Because I’ve had a bunch of friends go to those Wizarding World conventions to meet Sebastian and they said he was lovely during photo ops and autographs.

I’ve been to a lot of conventions in my geeky life, even got groped by one actor at a meet and greet. He also groped friend at another convention. About a year later, he got sober and when he saw me and my friend at another convention he was at, he apologized. I still won’t watch anything he’s in, but at least he acknowledged he was inappropriate.

      • SM says:

Who are you talking about? My money is on Mackie. He seems like a major douch. It’s sort of clear that when he and sebastian Stan makes fun of Tom Holland (really, it got old ages ago) that he is the bully and Stan just taggs along

      • Ayra. says:

They’re obviously joking with him, because he’s the kid of the franchise. Tom is always making jokes right back and going along with it. He’s not losing sleep over his alleged “bullying”

    • lightpurple says:

Weintraub has pictures up on his twitter of interviews he will be posting later and Sebastien Stan is in the pictures, along with Chadwick Boseman, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston, and Benedict Cumberbatch so they can all be ruled out.

    • Mia4s says:

It’s been all but confirmed to be Mackie. Which…is not shocking. But also kind of hilarious that he thinks he has the importance to pull this kind of stuff? 😂
Nobody’s here for a Falcon movie sweetie!

      • Case says:

That was my thought too, Mia4s. Not that higher status means you have the right to treat people poorly, but it is funny that Mackie thinks he’s so important that he can give Marvel that kind of headache while doing press.

    • JeanGray says:

Not Bucky! I love him. I follow him on IG and he’s actually been going around interacting with fans and giving away passes and stuff. a few months ago he randomly showed up to NY Presbyterian’s children hospital and give the kids free Marvel toys/merch. I’ve only heard nice things about him. I’d be so sad if this was him.

      • Bridget says:

FWIW, Mackie is supposedly difficult to work with, but goes out of his way to be awesome to fans.

And Stan has a rep of being awesome to work with. He’s intentionally paired with Mackie because he’s mellower and helps balance out Mackie.

    • Sally says:

Someone was saying that Sebastian barely speaks four words in any given junket, so him berating someone for four straight minutes seems like a stretch.

  2. Sara says:

It is 100000000% Anthony Mackie. Mackie is an ass and has “history” with this reporter.

    • Ninks says:

      Yeah, my money’s on Mackie.

    • Nicole says:

Yea it’s Mackie. Their history is pretty obvious.

      • Nanny to the rescue says:

        What happened in the past?

      • Lindy79 says:

It’s Mackie, I’d be shocked if it was anyone else. You Tube the interview they did regarding Man Of Steel and then Mackie brought him up in another interview saying the guy had misquoted him. They have history.

      • Bridget says:

Mackie was pissed about the MOS thing because he felt it was edited to make him look worse. Both men – Mackie and Frosty – don’t exactly have pristine reps.

    • H says:

Mackie always been problematic. Didn’t he give an interview where he said some really sexist things?

    • Char says:

Mackie isn’t at the pics the dude posted on Twitter, so it’s probably him, since footage was deleted.

    • FLORC says:

Same… Mackie. I’m as certain it’s him as I am certain it’s not Ruffalo. He’s not a “household name” so his conflicts don’t often make the gossip news, but he’s a jerk and displays that often enough.
Dude says racist and sexist comments. Rude to press. And it’s been out there for years. Just doesn’t get much attention.

      • Jessie says:

        Just curious @FLORC

…you strangely describe Anthony Mackie, a black guy, as making “racist comments,” – like what, may I ask? …and towards who?

      • ValiantlyVarnished says:

Sexist? Sure. Racist?? Please explain what a black man said that was racist and to who?? And please don’t use the reverse racism trope because that’s not an actual thing.

      • WendyNerd says:

@ValiantlyVarnished I’m not sure what she’s referring to, but doubting that a black man can be racist seems kind of odd to me. Reverse racism is an idiotic notion but there are tons of races out there. For example, see: Steve Harvey and his comments about Asian men. I’ve encountered antisemites from every race.

      • Onemoretime says:

I remember he said that he told his nephew to cut his dread locs , don’t wear a hoodie and do pull up his pants. Then said the interviewer took his words out of context . The interviewer came with receipts and showed the taped interview. He’s been trash to me from that point on. Probably upset “7th grade boyfriend “ Evans is not around so he can act like an ass to impress him.

      • ValiantlyVarnished says:

@WendyNerd racism is a POWER STRUCTURE. So no a black person cannot be racist considering the systemic and institutionalized nature of what racism actually is. But a black person can be bigoted. Those are two different things. What you are describing is bigotry. Two minorites can be bigoted towards one another. I am black and have experienced bigotry from Asians, Latinos, etc.

      • Chinoiserie says:

Jessie and Valian, there are other people than black and white you can be racists to. And besides you can be racist towards white people too even if it’s rare.

      • Nanny to the rescue says:

So what you’re saying is, he apparently expressed negative feelings about attributes stereotypically linked to his own race. And not to bash the negative stereotypes but to support them even further.

If he really said that, then arguing about definitions of racism or whether that’s racism or bigotry is just semantics. The point is, he has some issues in this area.

    • sunny says:

Yes. This. Most of the names on this list have a reputation of being incredibly professional and nice. Ruffalo, Pratt, Hiddleston in particular. Chadwick seems like he is just hitting his stride and after his very honest comments about how hard he had to work as a person of colour to reach success, doubt he would be unprofessional. Holland is so young in his career, I doubt he would behave this way. In every interview, he seems both eager and grateful.

Mackie, however, has had a few incidents of acting dickish in the past. I can totally see it being him.

      • Margo S. says:

        @sunny

Very true. and you also have to look at the amount these actors work, and what they work on. If people in Hollywood like you, you are going to get offers for better projects. Mackie, what’s he been in?! Now we know why.

  3. Sara says:

It looks like the only one who was interviewed alone was Hiddleston. The others were in groups so I’d think one of the other actors would have stopped it.

    • OG Cleo says:

Not necessarily. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one interviewee at a junket call out another, at least not on camera. And if it was Hiddleston and Marvel took the cards, then he wouldn’t be featured in the video as the tweet suggests he is. My guess is Mackie, he’s been a pr*ck in the past.

    • Lindy79 says:

Nope, Josh Brolin was also a solo but the guy has said it wasn’t him. I also don’t think others would step in unless it was a full on argument which this doesn’t sound like.

    • lightpurple says:

Weintraub has a picture of Tom smiling with the tag that the interview will be posted soon so, no, not LEGS. Rule out Stan, Boseman, Ruffalo, Holland, and Cumberbatch too. And Evans is in NYC.

    • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

Stopped it how? Tackled him to the ground?Chloroformed him?

Anyway, the way it’s worded makes me believe it was a member of a group interview panel. And we know it’s not Hiddleston because the guy posted a screenshot of his interview. The reporter no longer has the footage of the allegedly rude interviewee.

    • Bridget says:

That’s part of what makes this odd – Mackie and Stan are usually paired because Stan knows how to manage Mackie well.

    • ennie says:

remember the Bruce Willis interview debacle? He was with his costar Mary Louise Parker. She was silent.

    • Dee says:

I reallllly doubt it was Tom. Even at the height of all the Taylor nonsense he was still so composed and silent, I doubt he would be rude to an interviewer. I’m thinking either Mackie or Pratt.

    • Ginger says:

No way it’s Hiddles. He’s too much of a people pleaser.

      • Nivi says:

Yes! You are right on money. Tom is too much of a people pleaser to do the assholery.

      • Cranberry says:

Also he’s a very kind person from all accounts especially from journalists. All the Marvel entertainment journalists love him cause he’s so nice to them and always acknowledges them from first encounter on.

    • deets says:

Like people stop bullies all the time in real life?
Nah. It’s way hard to speak up and put yourself at risk when it’s not even your problem.

    • Cranberry says:

Hhahahaha. Tom being mean and rude to anyone would be shocking! Absolutely shocking!

The man has some mad skills at being composed and polite under any circumstances. It’s just not his way. You’d have to do something really terrible for Legs to lose his temper and reproach someone, and more likely he’d just excuse himself and leave.

    • M.A.F. says:

No. There have been plenty of times where the other person doesn’t say a damn thing. And that is not limited to the Avengers cast.

  4. TheOtherOne says:

My guess is Mackie. Something about him has always rubbed me the wrong way.

  5. Dimed says:

I’ve seen Anthony Mackie on other parts of the internet

  6. Nanny to the rescue says:

    Were all his interviews confiscated?

If not, we can at least rule out those actors who pop up in his interviews.

But probably Marvel took everything away just so we couldn’t do that.

    • lightpurple says:

No. He has a bunch that his Twitter says he’ll be posting soon. No pictures of Mackie, Pratt or RDJ so one of them.

  7. Div says:

Hardy has a reputation as a difficult douche, but didn’t that reporter get outed as being full of sh*t (I think that’s the same guy who was really creepy about Daisy Ridley)? I remember some other film journalists pointing out that Hardy was paired with someone for the entire junket and so it was impossible for him to do the things he supposedly did to that journalist.

I wouldn’t think of Hiddleston as the type, but apparently he was the only one doing solo interviews on the schedule that was posted by the same guy that was later deleted. My initial guess was RDJ, as he can get tetchy when people bring up his addiction issues from fifteen years ago.

    • Sally says:

RDJ wasn’t there at the time. He and Hemsworth wore both on route to LA. The Collider reporter also posted a rooster a while back and RDJ wasn’t on it. Not to mention that in the interview antis keep bringing up when talking about RDJ’s behavior, he hadn’t actually been rude to the guy, he checked with his team before getting up and leaving and that was after he politely asked the interviewer that he was there promoting a movie and not talk about his past.
I’m all for an adversarial press, but there’s a time and place.

      • Cranberry says:

Agree. It was a Marvel promo interview for IM3 that RDJ walked out on, and it was entirely the journalist that was out of line. He kept trying to turn the press promo into a personal interview asking RDJ what he thought about being a role model for kids when he had such a torrid past with drugs/jail. He wanted RDJ to comment on this in a press promo. RDJ told him he’d only talk about the movie but the journalist wouldn’t stop pressing him, and so he left. It was totally appropriate.

  8. OSTONE says:

From what I’ve read, other sites are saying Anthony Mackie.

  9. Mumzy says:

    I vote Chris Pratt…cause….🧐…I don’t like his face…

And I need to stop reading anything to do with the current US government before I go punch some hard core republican at the supermarket, or scowl at a baby … or something.

    • KBB says:

I’m surprised so many people are guessing him. He has always seemed very press friendly to me. I think he kind of prides himself on being the down to earth nice guy. I’m sure his old pets don’t see him that way lol but he is pretty consistent with his nice guy next door persona in interviews, IMO.

    • elle says:

      hahaha… same for me!

  10. Anna says:

Mackie (Mackie, Stan and Duke were a group).

Everyone in that last Tweet–Hiddles, Ben C., Boseman, etc.–are eliminated since the reporter still has their cards.

  11. JenE says:

Each reporter only got to interview a subset of the actors available. Frosty posted and deleted his subset. It’s someone from the Stan/Mackie/Duke group and it was TOTALLY Mackie.

  12. PlayItAgain says:

My guess is Chris Pratt. I don’t know much about how the other two are in real life, but Pratt definitely has the ability to be a jerk.

  13. lightpurple says:

RDJ and CHemboy were both there as well. My guess would be RDJ or Anthony Mackie.

ETA Or Pratt. But Pratt also has to promote Jurassic Park this summer so I’m thinking more likely RDJ or Mackie.

  14. vex says:

normally i would say pratt but in this case yeah, im gonna go with mackie. it wouldn’t surprise me to learn the RDJ can be a massive a-hole to reporters, but i don’t see him doing that on an avengers junket, just because he thinks he’s the OG.

  15. Lucy says:

Doubt it’s Sebastian Stan. I always hear very nice things about him. Mackie’s the safe guess for my (sadly).

  16. DP says:

Has Pratt ever had a rude interview before?

    • Steph says:

I don’t think so. I know people hate him in this site but he seems nice in interviews.

      • KBB says:

Yeah, I think people are confusing their dislike of him with him being an out and out asshole. He has never been an asshole to the media or to co-stars. He is a bad pet owner, a proud hunter, and a bit of a smug evangelical, but the guy’s whole shtick is that he’s Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. Down to Earth. There is no way he is treating a reporter like garbage at a press junket.

  17. DP says:

For a minute, I thought it was Hiddles bc his photo is attached to the headline… can’t be though, right?!

    • Lindy79 says:

I did read a hilarious blind somewhere over the weekend about two actors on the junket falling out over personal reasons and the most common guesses were Cumberbatch and Hiddleston because jokes were made about Swift and Sophie Hunter. It read like anti-fan fiction. (google avengers infinity war blind item). So people were guessing Hiddleston based on this and possibly Swift being brought up but honestly, I cannot see it, he’s professional enough to hold it together even if someone from the press was enough of a massive tool to ask that.

Im 100% positive it was Mackie since the reporter has replied that it wasn’t Brolin (he’d have been my second guess)

      • Rachel says:

Yeah that was obviously made up by the same people who submit fake BIs saying Cumby’s wife is a Satanist and human trafficker. 🤣🤣 Cumby and Hiddles have been acting super matey and huggy all press tour and Cumby said he’d visited Hiddle’s house recently. Ridiculous to think there’s been a falling out and public spats over “fake” marriages. If they’d had a fight they’d just steer clear of each other, big enough cast to do that. Especially since no one apart from those half a dozen Tumblr loons think the marriage is fake.

      • Lindy79 says:

        a human….trafficker…….

        no words

      • Bridget says:

As far as your blind Lindy – I guessed Cumberbatch and Freeman.

But one of the things that’s interesting to me is how much people guess based on simply their own personal feelings, and then take their guess as gospel truth.

    • Rachel says:

Nah, photo is just click bait since Tom is much more famous (and gets high clicks particularly on CB) than the actors who are legit suspects. The interviewer tweeted Tom’s card which proves it’s not him, and even the Tom haters on Tumblr don’t think he’s him. Say what you like about the guy’s thirstiness or messiness or whatever, one thing everyone agrees on is that he’s got impeccable manners.

      • The Hench says:

I concur on the Hiddleston manners front. A friend of mine was using a meeting room at RADA recently when Tom popped his head around the door and asked them if he could use the piano in there whilst they were having their lunch break. The friend said he was incredibly polite and couldn’t have been nicer.

      • KBB says:

I thought the photo meant they were going to imply it was Hiddleston and I literally laughed out loud. I’m not even a fan of his, but I know he would never.

  18. TheOriginalMia says:

It’s Mackey. Weintraub got upset Mackey bashed MoS (he’s a uber fan) like the majority of fans and wrote some article/tweet trashing Mackey. The DC stans went after Mackey and are still harassing him about. Legit gripe against Weintraub. Mackey should have skipped the interview with him if he wasn’t going to be professional. Kinda surprised Marvel PR let this one slip by.

    • Surely Wolfbeak says:

If that is the case, and Weintraub is a Man of Steel fan, then that changes things completely. Clearly the man has terrible judgement. Man of Steel is trash. Team Mackie.

      • Nanny to the rescue says:

Mackie actually tells Weintreub in that interview that it’s good he doesn’t review movies because his taste is obviously trash. 😀

      • jetlagged says:

I lol’d at that. Frosty was oh-so-proud that he no longer had to slum it as a mere reviewer and had graduated to interviewer. Turns out he’s not so good at the interviewing either.

    • Bridget says:

I don’t really get that. It’s pretty bad form to ask a Marvel about a big DC property.

  19. Jussie says:

Pratt has his issues, but the press who do these kind of junkets love him because of how friendly and accommodating he is. Over the years many interviewers have made a point of talking about how he’s pretty much their ideal junket interview. If it was him it would be a total 180.

It’s obviously not Ruffalo, Hiddleston, Cumberbatch or Holland. Bautista hasn’t done this as much but he always comes across as lovely. Boseman and Cheadle are pro’s.

RDJ can be a real jerk sometimes, as well as extremely touchy. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was him. Sebastian has his off days, but I’d expect him to just be a bad and boring interview, not a gigantic jerk. Mackie’s the most obvious answer, but he usually says stupid and offensive things while being quite open and friendly with the actual interviewer. Treating someone like dirt sounds more like RDJ to me, so if he was there he’d be my first guess. Was ScarJo there? Because that wouldn’t shock me either, and the reporter seems to be going out of his way not to use gendered pronouns even though almost all the possibilities are men.

    • Lightpurple says:

The reporter used “he” in some of the tweets.

    • Sally says:

      RDJ wasn’t there on Saturday.

    • Cranberry says:

I think RDJ gets a bad rap because of how he plays Tony Stark and because he does have a smart-ass personality, but he’s very playful with it. Usually he’s just trying to have some fun and make a tedious, hundredth promo junket a little entertaining. Because of this and his past problems people can imagine him just doing whatever the f*ck he wants, but I think that’s mostly an act. Imo he’s very grateful for his second pass at success, and conducts himself appropriately to the job of promoting a movie and a popular character. He’s a pro.

  20. Veronica S. says:

My first thought is RDJ, simply because of that bizarre meltdown he had in the other Avengers tour awhile back…but somebody said he was out of the country at the time of this interview. Is that true? My money’s on him or Mackie.

    • Lightpurple says:

RDJ is in the group pictures taken during the junket.

      • xdanix says:

Yeah, I’ve just commented below, but RDJ wasn’t there at the time. He DID make it in time for the press conference as a whole group, but apparently he was still on his way back to the States when this went down.

He’s got that history, for sure, but it wasn’t him this time.

    • Sally says:

That’s because he was clearly triggered at that time. And he had politely asked the reported to turn the discussion back to the movie but the reported who is known for his poor behavior, kept prodding him.

    • Bridget says:

I wouldn’t describethat as a meltdown at all. He was very polite but firm in his boundaries. In general, Team Downey is down to sell, and he considers himself the leader of the Marvel folks.

      • Cranberry says:

Exactly. Downey is totally team Marvel. Even when he was renegotiating his contract with Marvel, he wouldn’t go about getting what he wants like this or by souring his image the way Miley Cyrus did with Disney. He showed Marvel how important he was to the franchise and that he’d sell it with a smile and be the Marvel leader that keeps the team going and the fans love.

In the BBC interview there was no verbal abuse. He gave the guy a few chances and then just ended the interview and left.
The journalist was asking to the effect: “given your past, do you think you’re the right person to be a role model for kids superhero movie(s)?” If RDJ were to have even tried to respond and it get picked up on the media circuit, it would have been really bad marketing for Marvel. He was smart to end it, and I think Marvel was happy he did too. RDJ is a HW veteran. He’s savvy and knows what he’s doing.

    • jammypants says:

He didn’t have a meltdown. He abruptly but politely ended an interview because the questions were about his personal life when he was prepped for promoting the movie instead. No name calling, no shouting, or harassing. Simply, said he was promoting a movie not his personal life and smiled and walked off.

  21. xdanix says:

Definitely not RDJ- he wasn’t even there. Same goes for Jeremy Renner and Chrises Hemsworth and Evans (I know the last 3 weren’t mentioned in this piece, but I have seen a pretty unbelievable number of people claiming it was one of them, given that it’s quite easy to establish that Evans and Renner haven’t been on this press tour, and I don’t think RDJ or Hemsworth had even made it to LA at that point. )

The reporter had the right to have his say if he’s being treated badly, but I actually think the way he’s gone about it has been pretty unfair to the guys that DIDN’T do it,( maybe doubly unfair to those I listed above, when none of them were even there.) because they’ve literally ALL been dubbed “the guilty one” by different corners of the internet.

All the guys in the interviews he tweeted about being up shortly can be ruled out too, as he still has those videos.

    • Sally says:

Agreed… it was a really poorly thought reaction. Either name the guy or don’t. This gave haters an opportunity to revel in their hate for one actor or another and drag people who weren’t even there at that time. And it’s pretty gross because all the guys present or not, are tarnished by association with the exception of the actors like Brolin who Weintraub cleared on Twitter or Evans who was in New York.

  22. MI6 says:

This “journalist ” shot himself in the foot and ruined his own credibility by putting this nonsense out on social media. And he took otherwise innocent celebrities as collateral damage.

    • MDM says:

Yes this backfired on Steven because he didn’t name names and innocent parties are getting dragged into speculation so now the fanbase is super pissed with him. This thread being case in point since it def wasn’t RDJ, and I don’t know where else we’ve seen RDJ get miffed at a junket except that time when the journalist was totally in the wrong.

Also you’re only getting one side of the story because Marvel was trying to squash it and it was irresponsible of Steven to put out an incomplete story. We don’t know why this person was angry, maybe Steven said something but not all interviewers are innocent victims.

      • Lindy79 says:

Yeah RDJ is arrogant etc but I’ve never seen him be outright rude or disrespectful in these junkets with the exception of the Martin Bashir one which was bang out of order in all honesty. Downey, unlike a lot of celebs, did his time and it had nothing to do with why he was being interviewed.

It annoyed me too, that he tweeted this but refused to name names, thus dragging them all through the mud.

      • MI6 says:

Exactly. As a former journalist, this particularly rankles. The story is about your subject, not you. You remain transparent.
Also, do we not allow our celebrities to have a bad moment or make a mistake? They ARE human, after all.

      • Sally says:

@Lindy79… I don’t understand why Kaiser says RDJ would be a contender. With the exception of that Channel 4 episode, he has always been pretty chill during promo tours if a tad eccentric at times.

      • ennuiarethechampions says:

Exactly. I believe it was Mackie because of the history, but I don’t think it’s fair to blindly accept Weintraub’s version of events and assume Mackie was totally in the wrong. Particularly after the unprofessional way Weintraub handled the situation — complaining about it in inflammatory terms but refusing to give a name, engaging with the people who were speculating by ruling out some people (Bautista, Brolin) but not others.

      • jetlagged says:

I’m Team Whichever Actor This Turns Out to Be. If Weintraub’s Twitter spectacle is an example of the professionalism he displays in interviews, then I think the term “journalist” is being generous. He is a dude-bro fanboy who got lucky during the online revolution a few years ago when his film-blog took off. That success has gone to his head and he probably thinks his opinions on film should be taken as gospel and everyone should bow down to his superior insight. God forbid someone should call him on his crap. His massive – but easily bruised – ego just can’t take it. Professionalism is a two-way street. It’s required of both parties – celeb and interviewer.

    • ennuiarethechampions says:

Marvel: “Hey, we’re sorry about the way this interview played out. Because we don’t want negative publicity around this one actor during the promotion of our bajillion dollar movie, we’re going to confiscate these cards.”

Weintraub: “Ok, but is it alright if I vaguetweet about it and create doubt and negative publicity around ALL your actors?”

Marvel: “Oh definitely — please do.”

    • MI6 says:

Perfectly stated, @Jetlagged. As per usual.

  23. Amelie says:

Can someone explain to me why Steven Weintraub’s nickname is Frosty? Not sure I get it.

  24. Miss M says:

    Mackie

  25. Mina says:

I interviewed Pratt for Avengers. He’s a sweetheart. I’m pretty sure it’s not him.

  26. Case says:

I’d also say Mackie, more so than Stan.

Seems like a good opportunity to say that, even as a non-entertainment journalist, I so appreciate when I hear about celebrities who are kind to press. It’s not only the smart thing to do for the person being interviewed (we’re here to give you GOOD publicity, so help us help you), it also really just makes our day to speak with someone who is engaged, polite, and generally trying to make our jobs as pleasant as possible. The REALLY kind folks are far and few between, which makes them so special. I once had someone thank me for doing my research on them and crafting thoughtful questions, and I’ll never forget them. Just because they thanked me.

I read once that Tom Hiddleston read a journalist’s novel before she interviewed him, and I swooned a little. Journalists are always centered around their subject — for the subject their writing about to take an interest in them is SO unbelievably sweet.

    • jetlagged says:

@Case, did you happen to see this tweet from someone at the junket? https://twitter.com/BrandonDavisBD/status/988253093472030722

“Every once in a while a celebrity has such manners it blows you away. Tom Hiddleston is one of those celebrities. This man stood up to greet every interviewer who entered his room, introduced himself or remembered them, and carried himself with total charisma.”

I would imagine most celebs treat junket reporters with polite tolerance, or barely suppressed disdain. I bet no more than a handful of celebs actually remember names or recognize faces, even if they’ve done multiple interviews with them over the years.

      • Case says:

I didn’t see that tweet — thank you for sharing! Warms my heart to read things like that. I’ve heard so many stories of Tom being really lovely to journalists — remembering their names years after he met them, making sure to finish his conversations with them at an afterparty even though he kept getting dragged away, etc. That kind of thing is truly touching to people in my industry. It’s really appreciated to just be treated with respect, because we’re often not treated so well. But the handful of individuals who have treated me kindly and spoke candidly will always be remembered. They make my job feel meaningful.

        Tom is just a sweetheart.

      • Meggles says:

Tom apparently has some kind of photographic or near-eidetic memory, which makes it easier.

      • Naddie says:

Tom is so beautiful… I’ll go back to following him again, now for the right reasons.

      • Cranberry says:

I am amazed by Tom’s recognition memory too almost as much as I am by his kind, attentive manners. It’s not just that he remembers so many people he’s met. He readily acknowledges them, even when they’re in a crowd of other journalists and fans ie. comic-con, he says hi to them,

  27. spidee!!! says:

If I were Tom I wouldn’t be madly happy about being the headline photo on this article!

Now if he had gone off on one at Taffi Abner after her “off record” hatchet job I would be been less (but only a little less) surprised! 😆

Mind you I do have views on reporters who dish it out but can’t take it back.

  28. Allison says:

There’s no way it was Sebastian Stan. Other interviewers are always commenting on what a nice, humble guy he is, and he’s had very good interviews with Weintraub in the past. They seem quite friendly with each other. It’s Anthony Mackie. He can either be very funny or very abrasive–seems like this time around, it was abrasive.

  29. wood dragon says:

Why put poor harmless Hiddleston’s face on the lead in photo when it most likely isn’t him?

  30. Frosty says:

Imagine having a career where people need to say, basically, “No the ahole wasn’t Josh Brolin. This time.” LOL

  31. Lara says:

I would bet that it isn’t true, now everyone is going to be looking at this guys interviews to see who he didn’t interview! Look how much publicity he got for himself.

  32. Ivy says:

RDJ is a genuinely great guy and super nice to reporters. My money is on Anthony Mackie.

  33. Lyla says:

You know, this is why I dislike blind items. Innocent people get ropped in. People are claiming it was actors that weren’t even there. And the guilty one is never actually called out. Like, just come out and say who it was.

  34. Kim says:

Definitely can’t be Chris Pratt. He’s pretty much known for being humble and kind to press and fans alike.

  35. Candion says:

What a baby! Like your “job” is so hard! GTFO

    • Mina says:

Why is job between quote marks? Are you one of those people that think talking to celebrities is something journalists should be grateful for? Do you even know anything about the kind of work that goes into those press junkets? Give me a break.

  36. kkay795 says:

My guess is we’ll find out the answer once Collider uploads all the interviews from the junket and whoever is missing is our answer.
    – OR –
Weintraub just wasted his whole day because he can’t use any of the interviews for the same reason. He’d be outing the actor by omission.

  37. lightpurple says:

Definitely not LEGS, who seems to be enjoying the interview. http://collider.com/tom-hiddleston-interview-infinity-war/
