People: Kanye West ‘just thinks that no one gets his genius’ & ‘genius is erratic’

Kanye West greets our shutterbugs with open arms!

Kanye West is a mess. I find it interesting that his messiness mirrors that of his idol, Donald Trump. They are both megalomaniac lunatics with itchy Twitter fingers. They are both prone to braggadocious claims of their own greatness. They are both obsessed with Obama. They are both gigantic, gaping a–holes. And of course, they both believe that their own petty dramas are somehow reflective of some greater national or universal struggle.

Kanye West’s tweets are more than a stream of consciousness, he believes they’re “changing the world” in a battle of “good vs. evil.” The “Famous” rapper, 40, is not, however, concerned by people’s reactions to his love for President Donald Trump or to those expressing concern over his mental state – as long as they do not call him erratic.

“He’s actually not as upset as you’d think about what’s being said,” a source close to West tells PEOPLE. “He just thinks that no one gets his genius.”

“He hated the word erratic, but he likes to say that genius is erratic,” the insider continues, referencing the term a different source close to West used to describe him. “You can’t be a genius if you’re not erratic in some way. So it’s not wrong, but he thinks it’s more than being erratic.”

As for West’s admiration of Trump, which has caused his friends John Legend and Chance the Rapper to speak out, the source says, “He believes that he’s changing the world right now, for the better.” They add, “He believes that this is good vs. evil. Anyone who says or writes anything negative about him is evil, while he is good.”

Multiple sources told PEOPLE the father of three has cut off contact with multiple people in his inner circle, including his managers, lawyers and closest friends.

[From People]

“He just thinks that no one gets his genius.” It’s not a matter of “genius” to love Donald Trump. I mean… I could go into a huge thing here and actually try to argue Kanye point by point, but it would be like trying to argue with a Deplorable on Twitter: pointless. I also think this People Magazine story came from Kamp Kardashian and that all of them are freaking out about the state of Kanye right now.

    Bruh…

  2. Lightpurple says:

    They are both misogynists.

  3. Lola says:

Since Kim is insisting that he doesn’t have a mental health problem, then doesn’t that just confirm that he is just a douche. No mental illness, just honestly is a trash person.

    • NameChange says:

I think Kim is deflecting. This whole good vs evil shyt is the thing mental breakdowns are made of.

  4. DP says:

Kanye and Donald Trump actually make sense together; Both are delusional, narcissistic megalomaniacs.

  5. minx says:

Kanye is dressed here exactly like my husband, on his weekends.
    That’s not a compliment.

  6. KNy says:

Kanye seems like he has bipolar disorder and his “genius” is part of his manic phases. Kanye really does seem mentally ill.

    • ... says:

This. Narcissistic as well…. I know people like this firsthand. You can spot them easily…..it’s sad. He seems to be having an episode.
He definitely has no place in politics. These people are very very unstable at times, and dangerous.

  7. MousyB says:

This is all so dark. I know people are saying we shouldnt play armchair psychiatrist but obviously, something is up – that mixed with his obsession with fame and his surroundings do not paint a pretty picture. This is all so sad and gross.

  8. Jussie says:

This has always been Kanye’s MO. Saying and doing stupid and pointlessly contrarian things, and claiming no one understands how brilliant he is when there’s a backlash.

I feel like maybe some people aren’t that familiar with his antics earlier in his career. Stunts like calling himself Jesus and interrupting Taylor Swift overshadowed a lot of the other nonsense he came out with, but this whole thing about loving Trump isn’t out of character. For every time he’s hit on a good point (‘George Bush doesn’t care about black prople’) there’s been 10 times when he’s tried to dismiss or ‘reclaim’ racism.

  9. Bashful says:

Is dragon energy the new tiger blood?

I fear Kanye is heading down the road paved
    by Charlie Sheen…

  10. HK9 says:

If your genius means that the mental health issues you’ve neglected, compounded with Uncle Tom foolery and attention seeking behaviour make you a genius then yeah, we get your “genius” Kanye.

  11. Angela82 says:

Didn’t we already go through this sh*t with Charlie “Tiger blood” Sheen.

  12. Millenial says:

I said this on yesterday’s story too, but these stories from People are all coming straight from Kris Jenner and have the Kardashian stamp of approval. It all has a stink to it IMO. I think Kris is paving the way for Kim to be able to leave Kanye with public sympathy on her side, but I’m also not sure Kim is ready to cut and run just yet.

  13. FLORC says:

Genius is open and curious. It’s not being confined and limited. Einstein was certified brilliant and he said it wasn’t about being smart. Just that he was very curious. Seeing chaos and having it make sense is genius. I wonder if that is what kanye meant..?

You also have erratic behavior with no sense. No order. And possibly 1 moment out of infinite could be a break through, but it’s not by design.
Kanye is drinking some messed up koolaid. Dude needs to not be so disconnected.

    • Wren says:

Yes. Genius comes in several forms, but “erratic” isn’t inherent. Curiosity is though, IMO. Intense curiosity about the world or certain facets of it and an endless thirst for knowledge and joy in learning. I actually know a few exceptionally brilliant people, who you could call geniuses, but none of them are erratic. Certainly not Kanye levels of erratic. Eccentric, yes, and not everything they do makes sense, but that’s because they’re people and people are weird.

  14. me says:

Well Kanye, 2018 is the Chinese year of the Dog not Dragon…so…

  15. Kitty says:

    I smell a divorce coming

  16. NameChange says:

Now we know why Kim has been posting so many nude pictures …

  17. Swack says:

Kanye said the same thing in 2015 about his clothing line – homeless chic. That it was art and he was a genius and no one understood him

  18. Jess says:

I was a fan of Kanye and dislike the Kardashian’s and all they stand for but can we not blame the women anymore. Every man/ spouse connected to this family is legit problematic in his/her own right. Kanye, Kaitlyn, Rob they are all deeply problematic, misogynistic, whiney, narcissists etc.

  19. Chaine says:

Won’t be at all surprised when Kanye is a special guest on the Alex Jones show to discuss contrails …

  20. Anastasia says:

    UN.

    CLE.

    TOM!!!!!

Also, yes, pretty unhinged at this point. I smell a divorce, too.

    • me says:

The Kardashian family will put out “divorce” rumors regarding Kim and Kanye, but only after they suck the life out of the Khloe/Tristan drama.

  21. No Doubtful says:

What exactly has he done that constitutes being a “genius”? He’s made some good music, but so have a lot of people…. Arrogance is such an unattractive quality because it’s only a cover for massive insecurities….

  22. NoShame says:

I spent an entire day (20+ hours) dealing with Kanye West at MTV when he was first starting to get famous. He is the WORST kind of famous person and everybody at MTV hated his guts.

I get why he supports Trump. They are literally the same type of person, soul mates in so many ways. Even back then Kanye was a first rate a-hole. He was all about himself. All about his own genius. All about mistreating EVERYONE around him like they were garbage.

What should have taken a few hours ended up taking 20 HOURS because getting that “genius” out of him took forever! Literally, 50 people trying to coddle a grown ass man who was behaving like a 5 year old just to get 30 seconds of this supposed “genius” Just the worst experience.

    • minx says:

      Interesting!

    • Wren says:

      Ooooh I love insider perspectives!

    • Goldengirllover34 says:

I have heard the same thing from friends in entertainment. This is why I always sideeye anyone who uses the word genius for Kanye. I have yet to see why. I liked his earlier music but I wouldn’t say he was a genius. The term has been a tool used for years to cover up his douchebaggery. This dude has sucked hard even before coming on the scene. He is just a jerk and it can’t be hidden any more. No more excuses

    • hogtowngooner says:

I’m super tired of people who consider/call themselves “genius” and using that as a license to treat everyone around them like utter crap.

  23. j says:

When you’re starting to talk about dragons and genius, it’s time to take a seat. Preferably in a treatment centre’s intake room.

    • me says:

The fact he went months without going on twitter or “ranting” about anything proves this whole thing is just for pr. If he truly was “manic” why was he able to stay “quiet” for so long? Does he only have “episodes” when he has something to promote? I think he is just a jerk…by nature. Either he suffers from “only child syndrome” or he really just thinks he’s the sh*t.

      • HannahF says:

That’s the very essence of bipolar disorder. One moves back and forth between depression and mania–i.e., 2 poles

  24. Shirurusu says:

Does he have syphilis and is it eating his brain?

  25. Nicole says:

No thanks. I’m shocked he didnt call himself a “stable genius”

  26. Christina S. says:

I’m not going to bash someone for supporting our president since many people do around where I live and aren’t unhinged psychos, but Kanye….whoa. Aside from his support for Trump he comes off very unhinged like someone who has been taking medication and then suddenly stopped without weening off like you’re supposed to. I hope he gets help. I’ve always been a fan of his music, or at least his original music before he became a typical misogynistic rapper.

  27. Madame de Stael says:

“He just thinks that no one gets his genius.”
    – said every narcissist since the beginning of time.

  28. Tiff says:

Difference between Kanye and Trump is that Kanye is actually a genius. His talent can’t be disputed and what he has done for music can’t be either. I think Kanye used Twitter as a stream of consciousness tool and then gets put in positions where he has to defend himself for days because of a random thought. I also don’t think he is spiraling right now, at least not in the way he was a year ago. This is who he is, this is who he has always been. This is the same guy that said G.W. Hates Black people and the same guy that interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMAs. You don’t have to agree with everything, or anything, that he says. He has always been the same dude, he has never pretended to be anything that he’s not.

    • Jess says:

You been listening to his self aggrandising rants for too long….Talented doesn’t mean you’re a genius. He’s a great producer and a mediocre rapper. Has he changed the world like he keeps saying geniuses do? Nope.

      • Babs says:

He single-handedly changed rap music and have a flawless discography. He is a music genius, ITA with Tiff (who is way more eloquent than me). That cannot be disputed.

      • Tiff says:

He’s more than great as a producer, he’s one of the best and we will disagree as far as his rapping because I believe he’s top three right now along with Kendrick and K.R.I.T. What he has is more than talent and he also has a good business mind because he has been in the game and relevant for over 20 years. He has changed the sound of music and started trends with 808s and Yeezus. And say what you will about his fashion line but Balenciaga is making shoes that look like socks now and Cardi is rapping about them – Yeezy started that trend. People don’t have to agree with him to see that he is different and special. With that being said, why does society demand that he be humble? He’s talented, he knows it, he changes music and starts trends. He deserves to be able to recognize it and appreciate it even if society feels like for some reason he in particular shouldn’t be able to. I don’t see anybody telling Ed Shereen to shut up and keep his opinions to himself.

      • ... says:

        +1
He needs to realize he’s just a musician, and there are so many. They don’t stay on top of the game forever…..it’s hard watching these people be so desperate for fame and relevance when their time has passed….. Brad pitts doing the same thing. Clinging is never a good look.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        “Talented doesn’t mean you’re a genius.”

        I agree 100%.

  29. hogtowngooner says:

Ah yes, the old “I made art and if you don’t like it it’s because you’re too stupid to understand my genius”. Rolls eyes.

Here’s the thing with that: when you make art, you are sharing it with the wider world and opening it up to interpretation. If nobody understood what you were trying to convey, that’s the fault of the artist. But I guess that would require more introspection and self-awareness than Kanye is capable of.

  30. Mina says:

He imagines himself as a future President, after Trump, anything is possible.

  31. Shannon says:

They should be freaking out. Trumperism is NOT a good look. I’ve literally ended a first date after finding out the dude was a Deplorable. Kim better reign him in, because this is not going to fly. Trumpers are racist af and won’t embrace him. The people who will are NOT Trumpers. Politics aside, this is not going to end well. That’s how divided the country is. And talking sh!t about Obama? OMFG is he fkn crazy?
