Of all the Avengers-matchups, I never really consider Tom Hiddleston and Sebastian Stan to be particularly close. Like, Hiddles and Chris Hemsworth are “close.” They’re friendly, they enjoy each other, they call each other “brother” a lot. Tom is also close to Samuel L. Jackson, which is charming. But Sebastian and Hiddles? Whatever. But I guess Sebastian was close enough, because some die-hard TIDDLES fan just had to ask Sebastian about the Summer of Tiddles. The Summer of Tiddles was the magical three months of gossip gold where Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston fell in love and wanted to go on an international love tour. It was amazing. It was one of the best gossip stories I’ve ever covered. I always hoped that some of the Marvel people razzed Tom about the “I Heart T.S.” shirt, but we don’t know for sure.
So what does Sebastian have to say about it? Well, he was on Watch What Happens Live, and during the After The Show call-in part, a lady in Wisconsin – a Dragonfly, I’m sure – called in to ask Sebastian if he ever said anything to Tom about TIDDLES. The whole video is sort of cute – Sebastian and Priyanka Chopra are flirtatious with each other – but the TIDDLES question comes up around the 3:10-mark of the video, if you want to skip ahead. As soon as he hears “Hiddleston” and the “I Heart T.S.” shirt, Sebastian’s whole face changes and it’s like… “OMG GOSSIP.”
Sebastian says half-jokingly that his reaction to Tiddles “was one of awe and extreme concern, obsession and yet at the same time … I don’t know, I was really worried, mainly for him.” There’s some cross-talk and Sebastian and Andy Cohen say something about how hard it must be to date a pop star and “you know, love is hard and quick.” Then Andy Cohen asks Priyanka about HER rumors with Hiddleston, because they co-presented at the Emmys that same year. Priyanka says nothing happened, that they basically spent about 15 minutes together.
Anyway, I do think that a lot of Marvel dudes side-eyed the sh-t out of Tom for the whole TIDDLES thing. Poor Tom. The Case of the Lonely Dragonfly Who Believes In True Snake Love.

I don’t believe how this has taken off all over the internet. I also don’t believe Sebastian was serious, probably a bit surprised that anyone would ask such a silly question, and decided to have fun with it.
Yes. I concur. I think Sebastian and most actors are dumbfounded by the way fans will grab onto anything, any piece of meaningless gossip and hang on to it, even going as far to waste other actor’s time asking them questions about it. Like he said, he forgot all about it! I think Sebastian’s concern was more about Tom becoming a target for the cesspool of crazed fandoms (his and Swift’s) – not the I heart TS shirt.

Stan story was pushed by Ta Tay team. It is such a no story, but still everyone wrote about it, even CNN. Desperated Snake is so boring. No one give a sh*t about her pap strolls with Joe Schmoe, so she is looking for other PR. We had in last days children, hospital visit. So next she should send flowers to someone as always when she need goood PR. When I look at Snake all I see is Joan Crawford. She is as fake as her.

That’s my new go-to explanation for all questionable behavior by anyone from Europe. No one knows what it means so…perfect answer!
@Milla, you forget, no one forced her to use her own plane, her own bodyguards, have her own publicist on hand to manage the rollout and push of this “relationship”, nor stage the photo ops with matching wardrobe. If anything, she has the control of the narrative and he was just along for the ride. She is the one with this kind of history, not him. That is why it took people by surprise, he doesn’t have the history of this kind of thing. It was out of character for him, not for her.
No one forced her to write a song basically laughing at the fact that she used him to shield her from bad press either.

I do believe that if the media didn’t nick that “relationship ” as hard they did, tiddles would still be together. They matched well because they both loved that attention. That is the true Taylor, not her hot topic sponsored bad girl persona.

I think Seb and Tom get on they did a few interviews together but it’s not like there friends so I doubt he would say anything about it to Tom like he said. But Downey, Hemsworth, Ruffalo and Scarlett all probably poked fun at him. We know Downey did publicly so for sure he did privately do. Tom can take it. He has a bigger sense of humour than ya’ll give him credit for.
I wonder if his past relationship with Elizabeth Olsen factored into their costars reaction? They may not have made a big deal about it because Olsen was the last woman he dated before Swift and ribbing him about the cheesiness with Swift could get awkward real fast.
That’s a good point, you know him and Elizabeth seemed fine at the London fan event but at the LA press conference I noticed when toms name was called she didn’t clap and instead started talking to Mark Ruffalo, then when Tom got asked a question which started with “Loki is my favourite.” She put her thumbs down, and sort of booed. I get the feeling that they didn’t end on great terms and that there may still be some bad feelings there. I mean Elizabeth went on James Corden and said she loved taylor swift then a year later her ex was parading around the world with none other than Taylor swift.
I saw footage of Tom and Elisabeth talking and laughing with each other at the IW premier event.
@cranberry if you read my comment you’ll see I say they seemed fine at the London fan event (they were picture laughing and hugging and next to each other in the press photos even the next day they were laughing and again standing next to each other when they were doing a fan photo expierence thing) but a week and a half later there seemed to be a distancing, mostly on Elizabeth’s side. Go watch the press conference if you don’t believe me.
Without watching the press conference you’re referring to, I highly doubt EO attitude towards Tom is going to sour if they were fine with each other just weeks prior. EO is very professional and private. She’s not likely to make any negative displays openly towards him if it was real. She probably was showing thumbs down as a joke cause they’re friends (they did a whole movie together) and because Loki is the trickster/villain of MU. It’s really hard to read too much into what the actors on press tours are really feeling or what they really think. There’s too much going on.

On another note, just watched Infinity War and Black Panther and Civil War over the weekend and fell hard for Bucky, Sebastian Stans character. So hot!
If you haven’t seen it, watch Winter Soldier. Plot-wise, it is one of the best in the MCU, and Bucky, mechanical arm, greasy hair, murderous bent and all, is incredibly hot.

I mean, I get it — they brought any criticisms on themselves by going on a silly world tour of romance (or whatever the hell that was — my view on it was that they were genuinely into each other and it was additionally mutually beneficial — not just one thing or the other, but a bit of both).

Jake got a pass mostly because the social media, internet gossip machine wasn’t in full swing back then as it is now. Also he didn’t go in as hard and cheesy as TH/TS did. He didn’t have to he’s a bigger star and has better representation than TH that, and Swift wasn’t as mega big as she is now so they were able to keep it a little more low key even though it was likely for publicity.
I know, I am bored by this coming up. Jake was asked about his time with snake emoji just last month and it has been YEARS since his own disaster showmance was out. Jake has had girlfriends since then, so obviously he is not pining over her. Doubt Tom is too. He looked happy and relaxed on this press tour.
Well, Jake got a whole album written about him on how he broke her heart right? I think that kept up the media attention on the relationship. Tom just got one little song which isn’t even a single yet.
Jake did have a whole super-emo album written about him — pretty sure they were more private than her summer outings with Tom, and yet he still got dragged through the mud for an equally short fling (because she made sure they were photographed with enough detail that fans would pick up on who she was talking about in song — yikes). I didn’t realize he was STILL being asked about it though as @mags said. That’s really rough. If Jake, a better-known actor, can’t shake it years later, I worry Tom never will.
I get the feeling Tom’s rep has taken a bit of a nosedive around the Marvel folk since that incident. When a group of them were on a late night show together, Scarlett Johannson seemed like she couldn’t stand him. But Scarlett comes off as kinda bitchy in general so who knows. I could be seeing things. It’s a shame if it has actually impacted him professionally though — he’s by all accounts a lovely guy who doesn’t deserve to pay for an embarrassing 3-month period.

Samuel Jackson loves him and they had fun moments on the press tour. He also is still close friends with Mark Ruffalo and Benedict Cumberbatch. He was also very friendly with RDJ, Chris H, and others. I didn’t get the vibe that others don’t like him at all. He was more tone down this time around as he is not the big star of the film. And Marvel gave him a great press send off. Kevin F, the head of Marvel, talked very positively about Tom and his contribution to the marvel universe. So, there is no real evidence that they are all turned off him because of snake emoji.
Case what you said is tumblr crazy fans narative. They made up stories about Marvel and co-stars hate Hiddles now, that he doesn’t have friends now etc. It is one big BS. Kevin F. loves Tom and are always talking very good about him. And there are rumors (not on tumblr 🙂 ) that Hiddles will be in some Disney movie soon. So people pleas stop spriding this stupid tumblr fake stories.
@mags and @so cool — apologies, wasn’t trying to spread Tumblr gossip — I haven’t read any of that and it was just a personal observation of him and some of the other actors. Like I said, I was probably seeing things. I have no doubt Marvel as a whole loves him for all he has done for this franchise, and agree that they gave him great press this go around. He has worked his ass off to promote their movies for years so naturally the execs must love him.

I saw TH, Scarlet and Mark Ruffalo on Jimmy Kimmel for IW last week. She and Mark were very tickled to have Tom there. During Avengers filming Tom spent a lot of time with Scarlet. I believe they went horse back riding together. Also Tom and Mark hit it off very well too. Mark brought his son to the set several times, and he pretty much fell in love with Tom because Tom gave him so much quality attention and engagement. Remember Tom loves to entertain, and he’s exceptionally good with children.
That was back during Avengers filming when the franchise was taking off in full throttle with all the separate character plots merging. There was a lot of excitement, but also there was an untested, newness to everything including people who hadn’t worked with each other until then. Now with IA there’s still tons of excitement, but other things have changed. Everyone is older for one. So I don’t expect everyone to be the same way they were when they promoted Avengers, especially Tom who was still relatively new to block buster HW films.
When I watched the Kimmel game show segment, Mark and Scarlet totally knew it was Tom that learned to play spoons in a bar (pub). Scarlet smiled at Mark and said “it’s got to be Tom” and then they looked up at Tom smiling at him. They knew how fun Tom can be, and they both looked to each other in acknowledgement. None of it seemed like Scarlet had any issue with Tom. She totally smiled at him, and was referring to him in a friendly way. I think what ever you saw you read wrong.

I’m not sure I like the way Priyanka seems to be laughing at Tom expense when the caller first asks the question. She of all people should have more compassion of celebrities hounded by the gossip/fan hoards. After all the dogging she gets online for her affair with a famous, married Indian actor. It was very scandalous, and they hardly made a secret of it, but her management makes sure it’s not covered in US media. People with big, ugly skeletons in their closets shouldn’t make fun of others’ minor, albeit embarrassing, mistakes.
Having an affair is much worse than what Tom did. Most of what we read on these gossip sites is worse than what Tom did. Yet this is what he is still mocked for and others get passes for much worse mistakes.
