Will Prince Harry & Meghan Markle end up honeymooning in Canada?

The newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, leaving Windsor Castle after their wedding to attend an evening reception at Frogmore House, hosted by the Prince of Wales

For months now, “sources” have claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – now the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – would be going to Africa for their honeymoon. Many said Namibia, some said Botswana, and really, no one knew for sure. But here’s a theory: maybe Meg and Harry will go to Canada for their honeymoon? Canada is part of the British Commonwealth, so obviously it would be a smart political move to go to a commonwealth country. It would also help Meghan further ingratiate herself to Canadians, who already want to claim her as one of them (because she lived in Toronto for several years while filming Suits). So how about it?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are heading to a spot with a royal reputation for their honeymoon, and it’s not too far from her homeland, just up north of the border … TMZ has learned. We’re told the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to Alberta, Canada’s Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for their post-wedding getaway, and will be staying at the 6,000 sq. ft. Outlook Cabin … aka “The Royal Retreat.”

Our sources say the resort ordered some gear and goodies it doesn’t normally keep on hand for Meghan and Harry. It’s unclear exactly when they’ll be arriving, but we’re told both British and Canadian security will be involved when they do. So, why this place? Well, it’s considered a Canadian Paradise — tucked away in the middle of Jasper National Park — and has a rich history of royal guests … from both England and Hollywood. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother stayed there in 1939, and the current Queen and Prince Philip hit it up in June 2005. Celebs like Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta and Bill Gates vacation there … and it’s where the 1954 Marilyn Monroe/Robert Mitchum film “River of No Return” was shot.

I actually have a theory about Meghan and Harry’s honeymooning. My theory is that they will go on a few mini-honeymoons/vacations this summer, rather than schedule some giant six-week block of time. I think it’s more than possible that they’ll schedule work around their honeymoons/vacations, like if they do end up in Canada, I bet they do some royal work too, or add some stuff to a public schedule. And I still believe they’ll go away to Namibia or Botswana (or both) for a few weeks at some point in the summer.

Look, if a location leaks, people flock there and their security is compromised. Precisely bc were being told it’s canada, I think it won’t be. Meh.

    • Rosalee says:

Jasper town officials call it fake news…

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

ANYWHERE that is announced prior is not going to be the place. Security would be insane to secure. Some reports have been saying Zambia, and back to Botswana…. but who knows? They will be back in a week or so for the Trooping, so I guess we may hear something then. But I agree, they’ll probably do a few mini vacas while doing a little “tour” of the place. And don’t forget, the BRF basically shuts down for August. The next big “do” they’ll come out for will be Eugenie’s wedding.

I’m still thinking that by the end of the year, after the Invictis/Australia tour, we’ll get a baby announcement for the new year 😊

      • Let’s be honest they are somewhere in africa trophy hunting. That’s the terrible truth about the royals isn’t it.

    • Rapunzel says:

Canada is huge….they could go somewhere in Canada not mentioned.

      • Erinn says:

I mean – Jasper is gorgeous though. I can’t see them going to just some random place in Canada. It’d be Jasper, or somewhere in BC like Whistler, I’d imagine – they’re going to hit one of the big, beautiful resorts if they go to Canada.

      • Rapunzel says:

There’s always PEI… or Niagara….or Toronto even…or Montreal….it doesn’t have to be a resort. I’d say Eastern Canada is closer and more likely.

      • jess1632 says:

Yeah even further outside of Toronto up north has gorgeous resorts. There’s Deerhurst and that’s where Obama stayed when he met w other officials from around the world (& where shania Twain was scouted/found). I only remember because when I was there they were getting everything prepped for him. And that resort is a dream paradise

      • Linda says:

I say I sure hope its not Canada. We cant afford any more millions of our tax dollars wasted on security. I do not believe its Canada either because Trudeau is staying in Ottawa and not rushing anywhere to get photographed with the royals

  2. Joy says:

How long do royal honeymoons last? I guess it’s normal for them to take most of a summer off.

  3. RBC says:

Sounds like Meghan may have mentioned Canada in a recent phone call with her “ailing” father and he immediately contacted TMZ.

    • Torontoe says:

I kinda wondered if she did so deliberately to test his new found discretion with the press.

Lainey has them going to Namibia and Botswana and she likely has an inside track through Ben Mulroney.

    • Peg says:

      @RBC
When I saw TMZ running with this story, that was the first thing that came in my mind, that Meghan told her father and he ran to TMZ, no wonder he had no idea what was going on with the wedding.
Maybe she also told him they would be no Markle CoAs, that’s how Vonnie knew and was bitching, before the public saw Meghan’s.
The Mulroneys are really thirsty, let’s hope distance works on this friendship.

      • RBC says:

I think Ben Mulroney will be jumping into politics in the near future. He is ambitious and I can’t see him doing entertainment reporting forever. He seemed to be on camera almost as much as Meghan was during the wedding ceremony !
        Thirsty as the Sahara desert

      • Lainey is probably right trophy hunting in Namibia or Botswana (where he changed the laws to make sure reporters can’t report what he’s doing.)

  4. Uglyartwork says:

Nope, I refuse! (I wish) but seriously, we can’t afford it. Friggin moochers.

    • ramona says:

I agree. Vacation/honeymoon in the UK!! Let the Brits pay for their own royal family. Hope the rest of the royals stay home as well – forevermore! How many hard-working families will have their vacation ruined because a minor royal decides to vacation in Canada? If the royal family is kept in Britain because they are a tourist attraction then shouldn’t they be there during tourist season?

  5. Duch says:

I think they’re on a honeymoon right now. That’s why the Queen took Guy – because they are gone now for a couple weeks. (Didn’t make sense for TQ to take him for overnight)! I bet they hightailed it right after the garden party and they’ll be back before Trooping.

Agree they may take several shorter breaks than one long one.

    • Pix says:

I think they’re away now too. I think Africa, but Northern Africa. If they haven’t left yet, what are they doing?

  6. Jane says:

I bet they’re on honeymoon right now and I bet it’s somewhere nice and hot with crystal clear blue water… (envious sigh)

  7. Busyann says:

They’re already on honeymoon, but who knows where. Personally, I’d rather not know. It really seems like they’re going to have a busy remainder of the year. So not knowing where they are for two weeks is okay with me.

  8. Mego says:

Oooh I would pick Africa over Jasper and I am Canadian. The weather in Southern Africa looks perfect this time of year as opposed to rainy Jasper. Wherever they are I hope they have privacy!

    • Linda says:

Jasper is beautiful. People come from a long ways to see Jasper and Banff. I am bad. I live in Alberta and dont get there very often

      • Snazzy says:

I grew up in Calgary and I go way more often now that I have left Canada (been gone for 15 years) versus when I lived there!!

  9. Cerys says:

It’s all gone very quiet on the Sussex front so I assume they are away on honeymoon now. I hope they get peace to enjoy it.

  10. adastraperaspera says:

I guess I am the only one who thinks they are actually superhero spies whose marriage gives them cover to spend their honeymoon jetting around the world fighting off Putin’s evil henchmen and secretly bringing down oligarchs and despots. I can dream, can’t I?

    • The Original G says:

I like that. Actually when they drove off in that Astin Martin, they gave off these vibes.

  11. Starryfish says:

My guess is that they do in fact want to honeymoon somewhere in Southern Africa, but will wait because it’ll be quite cold there right now. Nobody wants to honeymoon in sweater weather.

  12. Janet says:

They are in Rwanda..there was a photo of them arriving there i think over the weekend. So yes, Africa it is.

  13. Ladykeller says:

I know a lot of my fellow Canadians are bitchy about possible security costs, but I hope this is true. I would love to catch a glimpse of them, even to know they are a few hours away from me would be exciting. I’m not a BRF fan at all but I loves these two.

    • CatJ says:

Ladykeller, you must live near me, and wouldn’t it be exciting to see them? I want them to enjoy the magnificence of those Rockies, and the Jasper Park Lodge is wonderful. Last time I was there, I watched a mother and baby moose swim in the lake in front of the cabins…

    • meh says:

Is this the thread where all us Albertan Celebitches are hanging out? 🙂

  14. The Original G says:

I have a personal connection to this place and I actually know where this is. It’s been a special spot for me and my husband. The Queen has stayed there several times and they’re able to close access to the area and keep it quite safe and private.

    • The Original G says:

And, I wanted to add, Canada has traditionally been seen as a good soft venue for first Royal Visits. Will and Kate did Canada as well as a first visit.

  15. meh says:

Jasper is absolutely beautiful. I would kill to have the money to stay at that cabin at the Fairmont.
Also, just FYI, Canadians aren’t sitting around, wishing we could “claim” Meghan as our own.

    • Sticks says:

Was coming to say the same, Meh. No we are not trying to claim her. If anything, I think they used her connection to Canada in the beginning to make her seem…part of the Commonwealth, kinda sorta.

Botswana and Namibia are also part of the Commonwealth.

  16. raincoaster says:

It’s pretty secure there, there’s only one road in or out, no major airport, and only a couple of places the press can stay, so it’s easy to know if they’re going to be mobbed. The lodge is right on the lake, so of course your security can see for miles and see if someone is coming. And it’s too cold, even in July, to skinny dip, so no mortifying photos in the first place. It’s not a bad choice.

It’s also gorgeous beyond words, although I think Revelstoke is prettier. But it doesn’t have a $6,000 a day lodge.

  17. Pandy says:

Jasper is one of the wonders of the world imho. PEI has a private lodge that royalty has stated in before. Might be there. Not quite warm enough yet tho.

  18. JennyK78 says:

River of no return was filmed in Banff National Park not Jasper. Can they ever get their facts straight?
