Julianne Hough stages and photographs her outfits before vacations

Julianne Hough’s career has been successful enough to secure some sponsorships for her. Her newest one has her partnering with Marriott’s Reward Premier Plus credit card. I’d love to land a partnership with anything travel related. I’ll shill for anyone willing to give me a vacation out of it. So kudos to Julianne for landing something with Marriott – that’s a good gig. Not only does she get to travel, she gets paid to talk about traveling. In her latest blurb, Julianne is sharing packing tips with us. Her secret: try clothing on and photograph outfits so as not to repeat a look while away. Not that any normal person has that kind of time…

Julianne Hough and her husband Brooks Laich aren’t shy about sharing their love for each other on social media.

The couple, who wed last summer, plan out their outfits ahead of time. During an interview with Hough about her partnership with Marriott’s Rewards Premier Plus credit card, the 29-year-old star told PEOPLE that she and Laich have a mini fashion show before every trip — and they even take photos of their looks in order to keep track of what they pack.

“Ooh, we’re different,” Hough, told PEOPLE of her and Laich’s individual vacation styles. “I bring way more clothes and outfits and put them together and now I’ve got him on that whole track. We do like a whole wardrobe, like I’ll take pictures and stuff, so we know what we’ve got for the whole trip.”

At first, Hough explains, her husband wasn’t a fan of the strategy. But now, they can’t travel without their planned ensembles — and their photos. “He was not into that when we first did it, but I do that now for him and he is obsessed with it.”
Hough also points out that having the photos is a great way to chronicle their trips… and not repeat outfits.

“He doesn’t smile in them so he just looks so miserable in our little fashion show,” she shared. “It’s the greatest thing I feel like I ever came up with. I have all these different folders for different trips.”

[From People]

As much as I covet Julianne’s deal with Marriott, I can’t sign off on any of this. I only truly learned to pack when I had to travel for business and my whole packing plan revolved around everything mixing with each other, necessitating repeats. I get that Julianne is a celebrity who can’t be seen in the same outfit but isn’t she supposed to be selling this credit card to the rest of us? With excess baggage fees or people traveling with families, none of this is practical. That said, keeping a look book of outfits is a good idea for when you need to put something together on the fly. But I can’t afford a new vacation wardrobe each time I travel so what goes with me has generally been tested.

As for chronicling their trips with these pre-travel fashion shows – what? Why not use the pics you take on the trip rather than the ones taken in your living room, especially if Brooks is frowning in them? Don’t get me wrong, I love a good home spun fashion show and pre-planned outfits are the way to go, but I’m not sure I’ll be hitting Julianne up for travel tips in the near future. However, if you want some vacation pr0n, both Julianne and Brooks’s Instagrams have beautiful photos of places I wish I was currently. And yes, they look fresh off the runway in most of them.

Loving life in #Paris…….🗼

This is so far removed from any reality I have that I just have to snort in derision. But they look good, no?

    • Kitten says:

They look good but this is an absurd “travel tip” to be giving to us plebs.
My packing style is to throw every outfit I own into two suitcases (always pack the night before you leave) and then wear only one or two outfits over and over again. IDK maybe I SHOULD take her advice…

      • Pandy says:

Ha! I do this as well.Kitten. Night before and frequently drunk lol. These are people with too much time and money. Honestly I want to see some kind of revolution to take 90% of”celebrities” out. They are revolting. And way too matchy matchy.

  2. Anon33 says:

I do this. Maybe not to this extent, but I do this. I don’t see how this makes someone weird and/or privileged. I’m a planner. I like to know what I have. *shrug*
We also prefer to drive places and hardly ever fly, so I guess being able to pack whatever you want has something to do with it.

    • LadyMTL says:

I pre-plan my outfits, but that’s generally because I don’t want to overpack as I pretty much fly everywhere and refuse to pay excess baggage fees. (EG day 1 I’ll wear this skirt with this top, day 2 this dress or if it rains these pants and sweater, and so on). I don’t take pics of myself, though, and I really DGAF if something is repeated, but yeah. Pre-planning takes a lot of the stress out of it, at least for me.

    • Julianne says:

      “‘I’m a planner”

Me too and I enjoy it. Mind you it would be great to get PAID to plan my outfits or even just get paid to travel period. Dream job n’est-ce pas!

    • adastraperaspera says:

Yeah, I have to do this too (don’t take the pics, though). It helps me pack and also alleviates my social anxiety somewhat, as I’ll know what to wear in various social situations. So I’m more weird than she is by a long shot!

    • mela says:

I pre plan my outfits as well to make sure I have enough clothes for my trip and to minimize space.

I like to travel with the bare minimum needed to avoid baggage fees and carrying around heavy luggage. But do I make my man preplan his tshirt and shorts to match me? And make us take photos of each other so we’ll remember? I mean how hard is it to remember that this tank top goes with this skirt and this dress goes with these sandals. Oh hell no.

    • Dee says:

I too, plan every single outfit for vacation. It’s also just easier, like you wake up, grab the outfit and get ready without a fuss and ‘ugh I didn’t bring that top!!!’

    • Danielle says:

Another planner here. I always list my outfits and try them on before I go. The fit may have changed, there might be an undiscovered hole, etc. And if I ever get the Alexa video, I might start to take pictures of my outfits in general, so I remember outfits I liked or didn’t from season to season.

I don’t think most people are concerned about repeating an outfit on vacation but hey if you are getting paid why not. My husband has a specific summer uniform so that he doesn’t have to think about what he’s wearing. It consists of a basic white t-shirt, shorts (usually khaki) and some clean converse or white sneakers. If he has to go to wear long pants, then it’s khaki pants and a white polo shirt with boat shoes. His packing life is so damn easy when we go somewhere warm.

  4. mela says:

she sounds like every mans worst nightmare

  5. Julianne says:

I do this on a smaller level, I just don’t take pics. For the kids I’ll usually lay things out on the bed or organize outfits. For myself I’ll get out a portable hanging rack to arrange outfits on. While I do make a written list of the outfits once I know what I’m bringing, maybe pics would be easier. Nothing bugs me more than realizing I’m wearing the same thing on two different trips. That just recently happened to me and I’m still pissed at myself for not checking my instagram before packing.

    • Summer says:

Why does it bug you if you’re wearing the same thing on two different trips? Is this about social media, or am I missing something? I thought repeating outfits was part of life for average folk.

Also, taking posed pics like that would ruin any vacation for me. Hopefully she takes real vacations from her staged vacations.

      • Julianne says:

I work a desk job so I wear the same boring clothes over and over again. I love to travel. When I get that opportunity, I want my outfits to reflect where I’m at and what I’m doing, be it action adventure or urban museum hopping. Even though I may not do a lot of outfit posts on social, I still don’t like to see the same outfit over and over again. Each trip is special to me, be it an hour away by car or another hemisphere, clothing is a part of that. That said, when looking at my friends vacation photos on FB I’m not judging their clothing choices, I’m only judging mine.

  6. Who ARE These People? says:

    I can’t imagine…

Pro tip: Make the bed before laying out your clothes to pack them.

  7. Hazel says:

Why is she a thing? Asking for a friend.

  8. Other Renee says:

I plan the outfits only if I’m attending special events but I bring mixable casual outfits so I have some choice. I’m a little weirded out by someone not wanting to be seen in the same outfit on different trips. Sounds like Instagram and image rule your life.

  9. Annika says:

Who is snapping these pics for them? 🤔

  10. lucy2 says:

Between that and the constant instagramming…do they actually enjoy their travels and the places they see? Or is it just an excuse to take more pictures of themselves in front of different scenery?

I can do two weeks in a carry-on. I only bring stuff that mixes and matches and is comfortable but decent looking. I’d rather spend my pre-trip time planning what to see., and my traveling time enjoying the places rather than arranging photo shoots.

  11. RedWeatherTiger says:

Based on those pics, it’s clear that their outfits are planned not only so they do not repeat but so that they co-ordinate with each other at all times. That is where the photos come in handy, I guess? I never think to co-ordinate with my husband’s clothes, because hey, he does his thing, and I do mine. If I were a celebrity, though, and wanted each instagram pic to seem well-orchestrated, I’d do it. However, if she is trying to appeal to non-celebrity audiences? It’s just a tad over the top.

  12. minx says:

I’m on a lake vacation now, I “coordinated” various leggings, oversized t shirts and a big sweater. 😂

  13. jferber says:

She’s breathtaking as a redhead. That is her color. The blond just washes her out. Stunning.

  14. Jay says:

She and Pippa should compare notes. They’d be a crack team, teaching us plebs how to live.

  15. Egla says:

I am ashamed to admit that it’s been years that I have the same damn outfits. I look at some of my photos and if not for the places you might think it’s the same time they were taken. I did something brave recently and I threw some of my clothes BUT I haven’t replaced them yet. I work at a very strict place and have a dress code and I know exactly what I’m going to wear there no surprises so this has made me lazy in every day life. I can live (I am currently living) with two pair of jeans and a couple of t-shirts and be fine with that.
All that work for a couple of photos must me tiering unless she is paid to represent an image, then based also on her photos I must say that she is describing a job not a vacation.

  16. nikki says:

It must be exhausting to be that posed and crafted all of the time. I do not envy that in the least.

  17. e.c. says:

This sounds crazy, but I actually just did this for a friend. He was going on a two-week cruise and needed to dress for dinner each night. He didn’t want to have to be trying to figure out an outfit each day so we mix-and-matched outfits for him and photographed him in them in the order he would wear them. It only took about half an hour and once on his trip he just pulled up the pics as he needed them and knew exactly what to put on. It ultimately helped him take fewer clothes because he was able to optimize the combinations of jackets/slacks/shirts.

  19. Sumodo1 says:

Juliette’s sponsorship is with a major Mormon-backed company, and as a Mormon, Juliette is probably the only star they considered for the gig. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I guess?

  20. raincoaster says:

She’s getting scary thin, isn’t she?

Also, I know people who do this. They alphabetize their spices, they swap their entire wardrobe every season, and they all need a good dose of laxatives.
