Salma Hayek let her 11 year-old daughter cut her hair

71st Annual Cannes Film Festival - 'Kering Women in Motion' - Photocall

Since I don’t have kids of my own, I have to live vicariously through others to experience the high and lows of parenthood. I love watching the results of kids trying to apply makeup on their mothers and trying on their high heels, so I thought it was cute when actress Salma Hayek let her daughter give her a trim.

On Friday, Salma, who recently turned 52, posted a sweet video to Instagram of her daughter, Valentina, taking a pair of scissors to her hair on Valentina’s 11th birthday. Valentina is Salma’s daughter with French billionaire businessman François-Henri Pinault, with whom she recently had a surprise vow renewal ceremony. Salma captioned the video (in English and Spanish), “Happy birthday 🎂🎈🎁 Valentina. You are so awesome and handy too! Thank you for cutting my hair! I love you more than love itself.”

Fun fact: the special mother-daughter moment was filmed by the 14-year-old daughter of Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón, Tess Bu Cuarón. You know, there are some nice camera angles, shot composition, editing and even a fun soundtrack… she might have a future behind the camera.

Valentina actually didn’t do too shabby, but I will admit I was cringing in the anticipation of her doing something dire to her mother’s hair. Of course, if Valentina wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps, she definitely could, as she is the spitting image of her but I could also see a future in hairdressing for her. At least she’s got something to fall back on.

“Spitting image” has to be a joke. The girl is wearing her father’s face, just younger and cuter.

  2. Tanguerita says:

Her daughter is a spitting image of the father. She looks nothing like Salma.

  3. Loopy says:

She is the spitting image of her dad.

  4. Lightpurple says:

I can’t believe Valentina is 11. What a beautiful child.

  5. Renee2 says:

I guess that it will be good for her to have a skill to fall back on, in the event that her father blows through his billions, lol.

    • Naptime says:

Right? She might brand a chain of luxury hair salons, but let’s face it, no one with a trust fund already worth hundreds of millions is going into the service industry.

      • Esmom says:

Yeah, but I could see her thinking that cutting/styling hair would be fun, especially as she probably has gotten to see many professionals working up close.

I have a friend who doesn’t need to work but went to cosmetology school and learned to do hair, it’s a creative outlet. She doesn’t work professionally but will cut and color hair for friends and family.

  6. Maum says:

She has her mother’s colouring and her father’s face.

I’m telling you, the things that hit the news these days… I clicked because I thought there was more to it but no.
Stop what you’re doing! A child cut her millionaire mother’s hair who, has not time to trim it up at the salon later on! Newsflash! Lol.

You know this is a gossip website and not a news outlet right? Cute video to counteract all the craziness going on in the world.

I have two teenage boys at home and I have one of them help me every couple of months, trim up my hair a bit. It’s a nice bonding time.

  9. Deanne says:

She looks nothing like her Mother. She is the spitting image of her Father, with her Mother’s lovely dark hair and eyes.

  10. Esmom says:

Very sweet. Some of us only had those giant Barbie doll heads to practice on, nice to have a live model! Salma looked a bit apprehensive at one point, understandable.

  11. Beth says:

My mom let me trim her hair when I was a kid, and it was fun, but thankfully I never cut too much off. If her daughter gave her a horrible hair cut, she could go have the hairdresser fix it, plop a wig on, or just wait for it to grow back

Babygirl…KNOWS what she’s doing!!!! My life has taught me that GOOD hairstylists are BORN with that talent…I have had better work done on me from “Kitchen Beauticians” who weren’t licensed than I’ve had from folks who spent THOUSANDS of dollars going to Paul Mitchell for their training and getting a license and works in a salon….She’s handling those shears like a CHAMP…and when she did that “slant” cut at the end…YEA, SHE KNOWS!!!!
