The Duke & Duchess of Sussex will finally make a day trip to Sussex next week

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex meet guests during the interval of a commemorativ

One of the things I find charming about royal titles is that when someone is given a new royal title, they’re expected to make a trip to their new dukedom or “territory.” When Camilla married Prince Charles, she was expected to visit Cornwall to pay her respects to her new territory as a the Duchess of Cornwall (and the people in Cornwall embraced her!). So it is with the newly minted Duke and Duchess of Sussex: just months after their wedding, they will be making their first trip to Sussex!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a very exciting date in the diary. The couple are making their first joint official visit to Sussex – their namesake county – on Wednesday 3 October. Harry was given his dukedom and new title from the Queen back in May when he married Meghan, and the former actress subsequently received a royal title.

The Duke and Duchess will visit both East and West Sussex, starting the day in Chichester. They will make a stop at Edes House where they will be shown the rare Sussex copy of the American Declaration of Independence. The Duke and Duchess will then travel along the coast to Bognor Regis where they will officially open the University of Chichester’s Engineering and Digital Technology Park.

The couple will then travel to East Sussex to visit the coastal town of Brighton. In Brighton, they will tour the iconic Royal Pavilion where they will learn about the building’s history and the impact that it had on the social development of Brighton in the 18th century. The Pavilion was built by George, Prince of Wales, who later became the Prince Regent.

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, will then walk to Survivors’ Network, a charity that supports survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Sussex. They will meet service users, volunteers and staff before visiting the JOFF Youth Centre in the coastal town of Peacehaven. At the Centre, the couple will meet young people from youth groups across East Sussex.

[From Hello]

This is just a small moment of joy for many in a difficult week, let’s be honest. I’m glad they’re going to Sussex and I hope she wears something good. I hope her look does not involve puffy sleeves, sheer sleeves or too-long trousers. And I hope there are some costume changes and lots of rope lines for Meg and Harry to pass out hugs and interact with Sussextons.

Sussex is beautiful! I have friends who live all across Sussex and it’s my favourite place in England to visit.

I was born and bred in Sussex and still live here to this day. I have never heard us called Sussextons before though 🙂

Sussexite? Sussexonian? Sussexer? The mind boggles with so many great options.

I’ve only ever seen photos, but it looks beautiful. The South Downs Way looks like a wonderful way to see the countryside, and accumulate some epic blisters (probably worth it).

I would think it would be East Saxon’s and West Saxon’s.

Looks like a busy day! It’s good that they’re visiting Sussex this early in their marriage too!

I live in Cambridge and our Duke and Duchess almost never stop by. 😛

I’ve heard that Sussex is absolutely beautiful. On another note, my cookbook came today! The book is much smaller than I was expecting. It is exquisitely put together and the pictures and the recipes are amazing. Of the recipes listed, there are only two that I have no interest in trying out. 🙂 I think I’m going to make the coconut chicken curry this weekend. @Kaiser @Celebitchy could we get another thread to discuss the recipes as we make them 🙂

she brings class and beautiful teeth back to the UK

Is there a SoHo house nearby that H &M can go to? Always an angle to be played with these two.
Hopefully Meghan will be wearing something that is properly tailored and not black, navy or beige. Her dress sense is appalling.
