Kanye West attended the opening of ‘The Cher Show,’ spent the night on his phone

The Cher Show Opening Night - Arrivals.

I always forget that Kim Kardashian and Cher are friends, or that they’re somewhat friendly. It’s the Armenian-American connection – Kim and Cher are two of the most famous Armenian-Americans, and Cher takes it as a compliment whenever Kim copies one of Cher’s old looks, or whatever. Anyway, Kim and Kanye West attended the opening of Cher’s new Broadway musical, The Cher Show, last night. They were by far the biggest “name” guests at the show, and it would have been a nice story about Kimye coming out to support a legend like Cher. Unfortunately, Kanye was on his phone the whole time, and even one of the stars of the show noticed:

Kanye West attended the first night of Broadway musical “The Cher Show” alongside Kim Kardashian West, but it’s up in the air whether he actually got anything out of the performance. According to Jarrod Spector, who plays Sonny in the production, West was on his cell phone during the show. Spector called the rapper out in a tweet Monday as the opening night performance took place.

“Hey @kanyewest so cool that you’re here at @TheCherShow!” he wrote. “If you look up from your cell phone you’ll see we’re doing a show up here. It’s opening night. Kind of a big deal for us. Thanks so much.”

West responded a few hours later and apologized for his “lack of etiquette.”

“To Cher and the Cher show team,” his tweet reads. “The dynamics of Cher and Sonny’s relationship made Kim and I grab each other’s hand and sing ‘I got you babe.’ Please pardon my lack of etiquette. We have so much appreciation for the energy you guys put into making this master piece.”

I seriously cracked up at “master piece.” It should be masterpiece. “Master piece” makes it sound like Kanye found a really good piece. Also: ever since Kanye’s meltdown in the Oval Office in October, I think Kim has had all of Kanye’s social media passwords – I think Kim has put herself in charge of his accounts, and Kanye isn’t allowed to tweet all by himself anymore. As for the cell phone usage… it’s so wasteful. I realize Kim and Ye got these tickets for free, but I’ll never understand why people buy tickets to a show or a movie and then spend that time on their phone.

He didn’t write that. Is he now in her quasi conservatorship? Maybe given his actions over the last two yrs he should be…

    • me says:

Yeah Kim didn’t write that either ! They must have hired someone to tweet for both of them. Kim has posted stuff in the past where you can clearly tell it wasn’t written by her.

  2. RBC says:

President Obama was right about Kanye. Wonder what would happen if people went to a Kanye concert and sat looking at their phones?

    • kodakay says:

      He would lose his $hit!

    • skipper says:

Exactly. Wasn’t it him that stopped his concert because fans in wheelchairs wouldn’t stand up on his command or am I thinking of someone else?

      • Some chick says:

Pretty certain you are correct about that. What an azzzzz! I wish I could go see the Cher show! I adore Cher.

Neither of them really looks thrilled to be there, but at least Kim is vamping it up, while Kanye stands there with his glaring white sneaks. (Are you sure people weren’t just seeing the reflection off those shoes?!)

      • skipper says:

@Some chick, My 14 year old daughter is wheelchair bound and let me tell you, if I ever took her to an event and she was ridiculed publicly for not standing up I would sue his ass and I am not a “sue-happy” person. How degrading and embarrassing for those fans in wheelchairs. I’m getting angry just thinking about it.

  3. Lenn says:

He is not able to focus on something other than himself for more than five minutes. I seriously think this. He is only interested if it has to do with himself.

    • Embee says:

Exactly so. He’s got the attention span and temperament of a toddler. Kim allowed him his phone because otherwise his behavior whilst bored and in a theatre environment could have become even more embarrassing.

      • me says:

Yeah really. I could see Kanye standing up and demanding a “scene” be done again, but “better”. I could see him jumping up on stage and saying “I”m a genius, I know what I’m doing…let’s rearrange the stage…switch up the costumes…Yeezy’s for everyone !!!”.

  4. skipper says:

He thinks the rules don’t apply to him because he’s KANYE WEST! It’s so weird to me that he lacks the most basic knowledge of how to act in public, combined with the fact that people have to actual explain the concept to him. I picture his handlers with a dry-erase board drawing pie charts and outlines to explain these social experiences to him. What went wrong, Kanye? How did this happen to you?

  5. Lightpurple says:

Where’s Patti Lupone when you need her. It wouldn’t have been a tweet the next day. It would have been: Stop the show while I call out the idiot with the phone!

Seriously, this is a MAJOR breach of etiquette. He wasn’t just bothering the performers but everyone around him would have been distracted by the light of that phone. Unbelievably rude to the performers and other audience members. I’m surprised ushers didn’t remove him.

    • RBC says:

Patti Lupone would have ripped a strip off Kanye and then some!

    • Nikki says:

I always speak up, and I TELL someone: “I’m sorry, but I’m distracted by your cell phone. Could you please put it away?” I would’ve said it to Kanye, too! It’s SO rude to have it out.

    • Chaine says:

SO many people do this. No one cares any more about being polite to performers or their fellow audience members. Even my partner is constantly checking his email on his phone throughout a movie. I refuse to believe there is any email so important that it can’t wait two hours on a weekend night.

  6. Swack says:

Also read that he was so enamored with the show that he was taking “notes” on his phone. What a waste.

  7. Anna says:

Holy crap – look at the body language between Kayne and Kim.

  8. skipper says:

I think Kim looks gorgeous in these photos but I saw some from the same event and the angle of the pictures really showed how she’s gone overboard on the fillers. I try so hard not to judge the work that women get done (I love my botox!) but she may have finally gone too far. For me to say that really means something.

  9. Svea says:

Pathological narcissism. The poor kids. They are the ones who will suffer the most from it. And it’s both parents. What a horror show.

  10. Velvet Elvis says:

Is it just me or has Kim’s butt gone down to natura looking proportions?

    • me says:

I watch their show and on camera her ass is as big as ever. The pics above were probably photoshopped.

  11. Berry says:

I wonder if Kanye is back on his medication.

  12. Jerusha says:

It’s ‘Kim and me,’ not ‘Kim and I.’ Have they stopped teaching proper use of pronouns in school?

  13. Char says:

Sonny used Cher as props in the beggining of her career and soon was very clear she was the star of the duo. They broke up in a bad way and Cher went on to be the superstar she always was. Not sure that’s what Kanye wants to compare his relationship to.

  14. me says:

One minute Kim says Marilyn Monroe is her idol. Then it’s Elizabeth Taylor. Then it’s Jennifer Lopez. Now it’s Cher. Who’s next?

Also, the one thing Kim and Cher have in common is they both got rid of their beautiful Armenian noses. Such a shame !
