Donald Trump is so lazy, he took the seven-car motorcade for a 250-yard journey

President Trump Visits Former President George W. Bush And Former First Lady Laura As President H.W. Bush Lies In State In Capitol

For various reasons, I’ve genuinely paid less attention to Donald Trump in the past month. I’m still keeping my eye on various political stories, obviously, but doesn’t it feel like we’ve all just started to ignore Trump? Even the Deplorables don’t want to pay attention to him anymore. Anyway, I’m just saying that as an explanation for why I haven’t given a crap about the day-to-day dramas Trump has been involved with, especially his “very legal and very cool” tweets, which seem like daily federal crimes of witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

So, I don’t really give a sh-t that Trump is making nice with the Bush clan now that HW Bush has passed away. “Being nice” is literally the LEAST Trump could do. And he’s committed to doing the least, especially when it comes to exerting himself physically. The fat fascist couldn’t even walk 250 yards to meet George W. Bush at Blair House – Trump had to take the motorcade. Seriously.

President Trump traversed a wide political chasm Tuesday evening when he personally welcomed George W. Bush, his occasional foil, to Blair House, the presidential guest quarters across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. But the actual distance was just 250 yards — a route Trump and his wife Melania traveled in the presidential parade limousine, with a motorcade of at least seven other vehicles.

The Trumps spent 23 minutes visiting with Bush and his wife, Laura, by all accounts a cordial meeting in which the former president exchanged kisses on the cheek with the current first lady at the curb. It was the latest in a series of magnanimous gestures that President Trump has made this week to honor the legacy of former president George H.W. Bush, whose state funeral will take place at Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday.

The need for the motorcade, however, prompted questions, and a healthy dose of speculation, about why the Trumps were unable — or unwilling — to simply walk across the street.

“Presidents, including the last one, have made the walk before,” observed Edward Price, who served as National Security Council spokesman in the Obama administration.

“Bone spurs?” asked Sam Vinograd, a CNN political analyst and also a former Obama national security veteran, joking on Twitter about Trump’s explanation about his deferment from the Vietnam War draft.

[From The Washington Post]

WaPo noted all the times that Barack Obama walked the short journey from the White House to Blair House throughout his presidency too – it really is very common, especially since that short journey isn’t full of civilians or tons of foot traffic. The Secret Service have that area well-patrolled, and it’s not a massive security issue if the president wants to walk the short distance. But Trump is lazy, fat and terrified of weather. So here we are.

He may have been worried about an assassination attempt being out in the open walking in the street like that. With our social/political climate the way it is right now, that may be a legitimate fear for him. Or, he could just be a lazy pig.

    • Jerusha says:

      Lazy pig.

      • Raina says:

Yep, lazy pig was afraid of breaking his bigly hip and landing on his bigly asz.
This is why this foul Orange monstrosity likes golf; he barely moves a centimeter.
There is genuinely nothing good about him.

    • Lightpurple says:

      I’m going with Lazy Pig

    • Killjoy says:

I mean, I find it hard to believe there is more of a general worry about assassination with Trump vs. Obama, who apparently made the trip on foot just fine. Of course, there could be something specific we don’t know about. Maybe this was too high-profile? Lazy pig.

    • Lucy says:

      Occam’s razor…lazy pig.

    • Isabelle says:

No one is gonna assassinate a bad president. He is too ineffective even for the crazies. He hasn’t done anything, not a dang thing, he is lazy lazy lazy.

      • Jerusha says:

He has set back envionmental advances decades, alienated our allies, made the US an international laughingstock, and spent millions of dollars of our money on himself and his sorry ass family. Quite a record, I would say.

Oh, and he’s causing the stock market headaches with his incoherent China tariffs babbling.

      • Rapunzel says:

DT is more likely to get a poisoned Big Mac courtesy of Russia than be shot at or assaulted on a route that many Presidents have traveled and the SS is very adept at protecting. Those Trumpster morons spouting the “SS determines his travel” excuse are dumbasses… It’s not like 9-11 or something. The SS would not have demanded he use a car and if they had, there would have been talk of a threat somewhere. There’s been none. I agree with Lucy above: Occam’s razor says he’s just lazy, or, as others theorized, Melanie decided she couldn’t walk that far in her hooker heels.

      • Megan says:

Blair House is in the secured area around the White House. It’s much safer than the golf courses he frequents every Saturday. He wanted to let the Bush family know he is the bigly president by arriving in the presidential limo.

      • noway says:

The golf course he doesn’t walk either he uses a cart. Remember his crazy doctor who said it’s his genetics which make him so healthy, but he was going to try and get him to eat a bit better and exercise. So he could live to be 150. I guess that idea went away with the crazy doctor.

I’m seriously surprised he doesn’t have more health issues. He brags about eating terribly and he doesn’t exercise at all. Makes no sense.

      • whatWHAT? says:

“I’m seriously surprised he doesn’t have more health issues.”

he very well may have extensive issues, but no one would know because he’s never had a physical from a real, not-lying-to-get-ahead doc or one on his payroll.

    • Megan says:

Ugh, the poor Obamas had to shake his hand. I hope W. had hand sanitizer for Michelle.

    • Bronson says:

I think he is legitimately worried about being assassinated. But it doesn’t make him any less of a fat lazy pig headed monster.

    • Rhys says:

Yeah, I bet he is just terrified of being assasinated.

  2. SJhere says:

Tool. And lazy as hell also.

  3. Rapunzel says:

Let the motherf*cker avoid exercise…its not like we need/want him healthy.

    • Elkie says:

I want him to live FOREVER. For Melania’s sake.

    • Raina says:

I definitely don’t want him exercising or going to a non-sycophantic doctor nope.
This thing probably believes he’s incapable of assassination.
I wish this IT were one of those peopke who believed they could fly.

  4. Annika says:

Laura Bush looks very nice in that green dress.

  5. Original Jenns says:

“…magnanimous gestures”? Really, WaPo? Trump wouldn’t know the definition, much less be capable of performing it.

    • Agree original jenns! “Magnanimous gestures” my ass. He did the bare minimum going to the rotunda and meeting the bush’s. Since when does behaving with respect and common decency warrant being called magnanimous gestures??!! Oh yeah, since this fat facist became president.

      • Tigerlily says:

Agree with both of you. A commenter on CNN (who I have a lot of respect for) said that Trump should be recognized for doing the right things this week but there’s a part of me that says Give him kudos for good behavior that we should be seeing daily? To me that’s like giving the local delinquent gold stars for not killing his classmates today.

        And he’s a lazy f*ck.

      • Christin says:

@Tigerlily, re. the media comment – Someone halfway does their actual job one week of 100 (literally), and gets praised on TV.

  8. Tiffany says:

*me going back to elementary math for conversion*

I walk that daily at my place of work.

    • Erinn says:

I mean, the distance from my car to my desk is about 120 yards. The outside portion is being done in freezing temps based on the time of year. It’s… not even vaguely far haha. It’s probably what, a 2 minute walk to go 250 yards?

      • Tiffany says:

Just about. On a leisurely pace maybe 5 mins. I don’t exactly be in a rush to be buckled down to my desk.

      • Erinn says:

Haha, that’s fair. I’m usually walking quickly because I waited until the last minute to clean off the car, so I’m trying to beat the clock.

    • Swack says:

When I taught I wish the step counters were available. Pretty sure I did 250 yards in the first couple classes of the day. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

  9. Beth says:

He did it for attention. The focus was on the Bush family, and Trump didn’t want to be ignored. I wondered if Trump would let the funeral be about Bush and not about himself, but of course he couldn’t do it. He tweeted a video of him and Melania walking to, standing at, and saluting the casket

    • Charlie says:

Too true. Well, that and the bone spurs!

    • Kitten says:

Of course he tweeted a video. “Look at me, everyone, I’m being presidential!!!”
No humility, no class, no grace whatsoever. What an ass clown.

    • antipodean says:

@Beth, call me ignorant if you will, but I had a question about the appropriateness of a non-military (cadet bone-spurs) person using a half-assed military salute, especially to such an esteemed (GWH Bush) military veteran. I thought that non-military persons were precluded from the honour of using such a salute. Am I wrong? On a list of the fat lump’s many mis-steps this doesn’t rate very highly, but would seem to me to be just another example of his completely clueless and tone deaf behaviour! Could some-one enlighten me regarding this protocol? I would be very grateful.

      • Swack says:

Not sure of the protocol but the President is the Commander In Chief of the armed services. So that may be the reason why Trump saluted. What blew my mind is that Melanie put her hand over her heart. What was that about.

      • antipodean says:

Thank you so much for that Swack. Now that you say that he is supposed to be CIC it sort of makes sense. It also makes me want to weep that this is another title for him that is also wholly undeserved and demeaned by its current holder.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I believe it is common practice for the President to salute members of the military. They do it frequently when boarding Air Force One, etc.

      • jwoolman says:

Swack- I get the impression that the Trumps don’t get very thorough instructions in protocol in general. I can believe that Trump just doesn’t listen (he seemed to avoid even having the ethics people meet with his staff to explain all the rules, as they always do for a new Administration). But Melania is more capable of listening and acting accordingly. Maybe if Donald refuses protocol training then she doesn’t get it either.

She probably put her hand over her heart because that’s an acceptable response to other contexts, such as when the national anthem is played or the Pledge if Allegiance (to the flag) is being said. So she felt it was some universal gesture of respect. She has actually reminded Trump to do it at various points in other events.

  10. Scal says:

It’s practically next door. He couldn’t walk next door. And it’s behind security gates so it’s easy to close off foot traffic, and the buildings all around are federal and are already secured.

See where it says ‘president’s guest house’? THAT’S LITERALLY WHERE HE WOULD HAVE HAD TO WALKED. I’m guessing he’s to out of shape to make it that far.
    https://www.straitstimes.com/sites/default/files/blair6_0.jpg

  11. Vava says:

HA. Unbelievable. But I think it’s cool because I don’t want Trump to get any exercise at all. Give him additional cheeseburgers, too.

What is up with Melanoma wearing shades indoors?

They probably took the limo because Melanoma wouldn’t be able to walk that far in her sky high stilettos.

    • KK2 says:

I also thought it might be because of Melania’s shoes. But then again, she was a model and I’m sure she can tough it out long distances in ridiculous shoes. So it was probably him.

      • Swack says:

Then don’t wear those shoes. It’s not like she was going to a public event. Lower heels would have worked just as well.

      • Alarmjaguar says:

Like Swack said (I love how this photo emphasizes the difference btw the First Ladies’ shoes). I’m totally with Laura on this one. After being pregnant with twins, I can’t do heels anymore

    • Killjoy says:

I thought it might be the heels too. Wearing stilettos takes me from being a primarily bike/walker to needing a car to go less than the distance Trump went – at least in the winter, when I’m walking through snow and ice. However. I have a very limited shoe wardrobe, and that’s because of $$$, not because my husband won’t f*ck me if he sees me in shoes other than stilettos. Stupid Trumps.

  12. Incredulous says:

I think you’ll find that, according to Turnip’s latest Dr Scratch’N’Sniff, the distance is in fact 239 yards.

  13. gingersnaps says:

He should have just use one of his many golf carts.

  14. Pansy says:

It really may have been logistics and security. There are so many current and former dignitaries in town it may have necessitated it. A lot, a whole lot, of the things he chooses to do bothers me, but this one doesn’t. I’d imagine there’s a lot we don’t know about pulling something like this off.

    • Swack says:

But SEVEN cars besides the presidential limosine! Why not just one. Seems excessive to me. Nice carbon footprint he left (but then again he doesn’t care).

    • Rapunzel says:

That’s a very easy area to logistically secure, so IDK, Pansy. But I agree, it’s a silly complaint. I’m more disturbed by the fact that he literally spent only 2 minutes in the Rotunda paying respects to GHWB. Or that he apparently took that motercade to spend only about 20 minutes (including ride) meeting the Bushes, only about 2 minutes being the moment photographed, during which he was said to have offered no actual condolences.

    • cheche says:

The street in front of WH has been shut to traffic since 9-11. The last 3 – 4 cars would have still been on the WH driveway when the first car got to Blair House. Idiot caused a traffic jam on a street with no traffic! Security is already tight there and high profile people stay at Blair House all the time. If there was any unusual threat level, the visit would not have happened. This was just another pathetic display by a pathetic little man desperately trying to show how important he thinks he is.

  15. Lama Bean says:

Tangentially related: When they were paying respects to Bush 41 in the Rotunda, I noticed two things.

    1. Along with the many other mental issues we suspect Yeti has, it seems as if he has ADD as well. That cretin couldn’t keep still for anything in the world and of course #BeBest was acting like his mother telling him to calm down like he’s a 4 year old.
    2. Yesterday was the first time I saw up close #BeBest’s hair/wig/pieces. I know–I’m late.

  16. KidV says:

I thought the interaction between Melania and GWB was very awkward. He was fine with a quick hug/cheek kiss but Melania forced a second cheek kiss. George looked annoyed. I laughed.

    • mimismom says:

I saw the greeting this morning on the news. Boy, that WAS awkward for all parties involved. It’s like no one really knew what to do.

I still think that Melania is a fembot because she doesn’t move like an actual human.

    • The Other Katherine says:

I am always loath to offer any defense of Melania, but kissing both cheeks is normal in much of Europe — I used to do this with colleagues regularly when it was their cultural norm. I think she just defaulted to that style of greeting with GWB, although I don’t understand why she didn’t use it with Laura Bush as well. Maybe she thought Shrub was coming back in for the 2nd kiss, I dunno.

Also, I HATE the way 45 always strides off ahead of his wife without a backward glance. I’m surprised he doesn’t click his fingers at her if she doesn’t move fast enough for his liking. She’s so obviously a subordinate, not a partner.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

He strides (sorry stomps) ahead of everyone, even pushing them out the way – remember the other President he shoved out of his way at a G20 meeting a few years ago. And then how the stomped ahead of TQ, awkwardly inspecting the guard.

Man doesn’t know how to walk let along sit – guess his piles are too bigly to do either properly.

  17. Maddie says:

    Was it raining?

  18. Incredulous says:

It occurs to me that, given Trump’s diet, exercise regime and solipsism, I would not want to be sitting where Mike Pence is sitting right now.

    • mimismom says:

Oh, Pence is probably the one who is picking up the cheeseburger order.

      • Kitten says:

Not sure Mother would let him go to McDonald’s by himself.

      • mimismom says:

Ha! Ha! I misunderstood your comment too Incredulous! I hadn’t seen any of the televised funeral yet. Now I get it. Yuck. I wouldn’t want to have been sitting where Pence was this morning either! That has to be nasty.

    • Killjoy says:

Literally, the things you mentioned are the only reason Pence is sticking around…

      • Incredulous says:

I meant Pence’s placement at the funeral, sitting directly behind Donald “McDonald trumps” Trump. For like 2 hours.

      • Killjoy says:

Ha!! I thought you meant he wouldn’t want to helm the country in its current state if Cheetolini prematurely bites the dust. But thanks for reminding me of the things he endures while he waits for 45’s demise…

  19. Little Cookie says:

I am certain that, at some time in the future, President Xi and I, together with President Putin of Russia, will start talking about a meaningful halt to what has become a major and uncontrollable Arms Race. The U.S. spent 716 Billion Dollars this year. Crazy!

  20. Autumn says:

Actually a funny story why he never walks anywhere, including driving up to the every green when he golfs…. https://www.cnn.com/2017/05/15/politics/donald-trump-exercise/index.html

  21. U.S and them says:

I’m more concerned about his stance on climate change.

  22. Debby says:

I had to convert 250 yards into meters to fully understand how far the buildings are from one another. He seriously took an entire motorcade for 223 meters? It’s not even worth it to get in one car let alone take an entire motorcade. That’s not even laziness because it takes more time to get all the cars ready than to walk that distance. He wanted to let all the former presidents know HE is the president now and, as much as they keep ignoring his fat ass, he is a member of their club.

  23. Cat says:

I’m pretty sure it was the secret service that makes those decisions.

  24. Jo says:

I might give him a pass on this one. He has valid security concerns.
