Jennifer Aniston in Stella McCartney at the LA ‘Dumplin” premiere: cute or boring?

Premiere of Netflix's 'Dumplin' - Arrivals

Here are some photos of Jennifer Aniston at the LA premiere of her new Netflix movie, Dumplin’. Jennifer made sure to pose with everybody, and she really worked that red carpet like a pro- she posed with producer/friend Scott Stuber, Dolly Parton (who did original songs for the film), Danielle Macdonald (who plays her daughter), Ted Sarandos (Netflix chief) and I’m sure there are photos of Jennifer and Courteney Cox somewhere – Cox came to the premiere to support her friend.

Jennifer wore a black Stella McCartney dress to the premiere. Jennifer Aniston and little black dresses go together like baby backpacks and the early ‘90s. I’m sure Jen has about 30 different versions of a long-sleeved, short-skirted little black dress in her closet, but sure, she needed this McCartney piece. It’s fine – it’s not a completely terrible Stella McCartney, but it does look sort of cheap (a Stella signature). I appreciate that Jennifer didn’t flat-iron her hair.

Jennifer has been making the promotional rounds all week, but only with her friendliest outlets. Here’s a clip of her interview with Ellen (what’s nice is that you can really tell that she believes in Dumplin’):

And here are some clips of her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

I think she looks terrific. Yes, its a very typical Jen look, and she probably has a whole room devoted to her black dress collection – but it works and she looks great.

    • FHMom says:

She looks amazing and seems quite happy these days.

    • Alissa says:

she looks fine, and the dress is fine. but it is bland. I just really wish she would do anything different with her hair. it’s been the same long down and middle part for about a million years now and it’s boring. she’s got Gwyneth paltrow hair just better.

    • Jenns says:

Agreed. I really love this dress on her.

    • dietcokehead says:

She looks stunning and not even a little bit cheap. She figured out a long time ago what works for her, and I can’t fault her for sticking with it.

    • marmalazed says:

I agree! Cute AND boring and she looks fantastic!

    • whatWHAT? says:

this was my reaction too. she looks great, but yeah the dress is a bit boring.

love the shoes and her legs are amazing.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree – it works for her, and she looks great. Considering some of the messes designers are putting on actresses these days, I’d be glad if I could wear something I know looks good!

    • LahdidahBaby says:

Yeah, she looks great. Those legs!

  2. kellybean says:

I think she looks pretty good. She is a little too tanned but so what? Her hair looks great like that. Also, she hasn’t gone crazy with the botox; she has just enough to get rid of the wrinkles (from all the tanning and smoking) without looking too tight.

  3. vexa says:

I know it’s just her default look but she looks really good here (her legs are super orange though, is that just me??)

    • Esmom says:

I noticed that, too. I think she looks really great except a bit too orange everywhere but her face. I don’t even hate the dress, she rocks it.

  4. Chaine says:

So we are not going to ID Dolly’s dress? Far more interesting IMO.

  5. Sue Denim says:

I think she looks great. There’s something freeing about knowing who you are, what you like to wear, and just going with it. Then it’s you not the clothes that can shine through, and I think she does here in both interviews.

  6. Jayna says:

This is just another variation of her usual look. But she knocked it out of the park on her Ellen appearance this week in a flowy I think wine-colored dress with a gorgeous leather belt. It was full-stop one of my favorite celeb outfits of the year. And it was really different for her.

  7. Loopy says:

She has worn a dress like this that make it seem like she has a baby bump.

  8. Aurora says:

She’s an Aquarius. They are fixed by nature. She knows what works for her and rocks it. She has a gorgeous figure, her eyes pop against her hair and the way she dresses suits her. I like her confidence in sticking with what works. She’s very classic.

    • Nicole(the Cdn one) says:

As a fellow Aquarius – I howled at your bang-on assessment. Years ago I read an article that said it was ok to have a “uniform” – a formula your feel comfortable with and stick with and it was the perfect validation for what I’ve been doing for decades! Some people are avant- guarde and some stick with what they are comfortable with. Nothing wrong with either in my opinion.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

Fellow Aquarius here. I have a uniform, too, except for truly dressy occasions. Everyday top: always a v-neckline, usually black. Bottom: for every day, either skinny blue jeans or black leggings. Espadrilles in spring/summer, block-heel ankle boots or knee boots in fall and winter. My money mostly goes into the shoes/boots, the jackets/coats, and the handbags.

I would totally wear that dress.

  9. Darla says:

I can’t wait to see this movie it looks great!

  10. sage says:

Her face looks so weird….. bloated and swollen. I wonder if she’s a heavy drinker.

  11. Steff says:

I’m shocked that her dress doesn’t have a deep V neck.

  12. Tallia says:

She looks great. I think she looks very relaxed too. I guess dropping 175 pounds will do that.

  13. Meg says:

She looks cute AND boring. “Cute and boring” is Aniston’s niche.

  14. Beth says:

I normally don’t like sparkling materials, but this dress looks good on her. She knows short, black dresses are a good look for her even though it’s a little boring

  15. KidV says:

    Jen looks happy.

I’m assuming the guy is Scott Stuber? When scrolled down and saw that photo my first thought was “what has Rupert Everett done to his face now!?” Then I realized it wasn’t him.

  16. Waianae says:

I can’t tell if her tan is spray on or UV but she has very little sun damage. She’s lucky.

    • DiegoInSF says:

I believe she’s spoken before about having extensive laser done to remove sun damage. It’s worked!

    • KidV says:

Years ago, during her Brad phase, I remember reading something about she and Brad buying Vitamin C serum by the case to use all over their bodies, not just faces. If true, it’s worked for her. Brad should have stuck with it.

  17. Kristen says:

I think she looks stunning! The dress suits her perfectly. I love Jen!

  18. Carmen says:

She looks good but dear God, I want to take a tomahawk to her hair. She’s been wearing the same damn hairstyle for twenty years at least. Pin it up, chop it off, but do something DIFFERENT with it. Sheesh!

  19. Nicegirl says:

I loved Dumplin! I think it’s funny, timely and sweet. And it has a really great cast.

I’m a big Danielle McDonald fan, she’s actually the star of the movie, and is so fabulous. I love another of her films, Patty Cakes.

    • boredblond says:

Watched last night and agree..expected ‘feel good’ (that’s predictable) but got teary during the scenes where Aniston was remembering her sister. Terrific performances all around.

  20. Tanah says:

Bringing some Merritt love to this thread. Merritt was amazing in both Nurse Jackie and Godless and I fear her sheer talent will either overshadow Aniston or be completely toned down to the point it does her a disservice. I know there’s always talk of Aniston being or aspiring to be a great actor, but I guess I just don’t see it. Merritt is in a whole other level, even to Michelle Dockery who I love (Good Behaviour and Godless especially).

Anyways on the clothing, Merritt looks amazing here, that jewell tone green with the gold shoes is beautiful on her.

  21. Littlefishmom says:

    Zzzzzzzzzz…..and she’s freakin orange.

  22. judith reeder says:

    She looks fantastic

  23. Dako says:

She looks just like her usual self, which is fine, if not exciting. As a star she could use some creative reinvention. Not digging the hairpinned lock across the forehead, there has to be a better solution to keeping the hair out of her face.

  24. tiya says:

it’s always jarring when people say things like baby backpacks go with the 90’s because like… so much stuff from the 90’s is back in fashion right now lol i think i’ve bought 3 baby backpacks recently and wear them out regularly! we’ve rewinded!!

  25. Foxtrot says:

Dumplin’ was sweet but just as you expected as a feel-good film. I wouldn’t catch it again. Jennifer was solid. She looks amazing in that metallic top and the boots in the Elle spread. Fit woman with great legs, to be superficial. I can take or leave her work and never watched Friends much but overall I find her genuine and better actor than she gets credit for.
