Jennifer Lopez’s Giambattista Valli look was too big & too dramatic for the red carpet

'Second Act' film premiere

This is a cautionary tale for all the stunt queens and melodramatic fashionistas out there: if you’re going to attempt a major LEWK at a big film premiere, please make sure the carpet is big enough and empty enough to accommodate your LEWK. Jennifer Lopez spent all of Wednesday in New York, doing press for Second Act, her Christmas comedy. She did a Blake Lively-esque fashion show for the paparazzi, changing her costumes multiple times throughout the day as she appeared on talk shows and Q&A sessions and whatever.

It was all building up to the big New York premiere. Jennifer was supposed to rule the carpet in an epic Giambattista Valli dress with an epic mullet skirt with a ten-foot-long train. J.Lo planned it perfectly… and then the carpet wasn’t big enough for her hot pink dress. No one could get the really dramatic full-length photo of the dress and the train. Instead, Jennifer’s look became a nuisance, something people had to negotiate around as they tried to do red carpet interviews and pose for photos. Rookie mistake, Jennifer. She knows it too – she didn’t look happy at all on the carpet. Also: Alex Rodriguez came out for this premiere, after avoiding the other premieres.

I’m also including premiere photos of Milo Ventimiglia, Leah Remini and Vanessa Hudgens. V-Hud is wearing Marc Jacobs – it’s kind of ridiculous, yet I understand why she chose it.

    Oh dear.

  2. Manatee says:

    ……and most notably too pink!

  3. Nanny to the rescue says:

How does one know there won’t be enough space on the carpet, tho? Sometimes these things are really roomy.

The dress is dreadful, tho. Mainly I begrudge it the underboob line going into … a ballerina skirt or whatever that is.

    • Catfoodjunkie says:

I think what happens is that she’s not drawing the BIG premiers anymore — so the event is scaled down. But still, she’s know for being prepared — it’s odd that she wouldn’t have scouted the venue to prevent such a disaster.
Side note: dear god are she and Alex a match. Neither of them can be photographed enough to suit them.

  4. JadedBrit says:

She’s such a beautiful woman. She’d suit a Jackie O. look so well – elegant, chic and understated. (Boat necks, or those wonderful pearl coloured Alberta di Ferretti silks would also work.) She certainly has the exquisite bone structure and perfect proportions for the little-black-dress-that-is-a-triumph-of-architecture look.

  5. minx says:

Also way too short in the front.

  6. Ripley39 says:

Lose the fur Leah! You are wearing torture and suffering!

    • GoPlacidly says:

Can you tell if it is real or not by looking at the photo? I am not sure how real fakes look these days? If it is real, I am very disappointed in her.

    • Emby says:

      It looks super fake. So.

      • Kitten says:

It looks fake to me too. I sure hope so. On the other hand, J Lo wears real fur all the time.

      • josephine says:

Huh, I thought the opposite, although I have no experience at all judging furs! But maybe it was the fur in combo with the talon nails – they screamed 80’s excess to me. I do like her dress though.

      • GoPlacidly says:

Oh, her nails are just awful, but she seems to love ’em and if they make her happy and don’t scratch babies….

      • smcollins says:

@kitten Still? I remember when she wore mink eyelashes (yeah…that’s right. Mink. Eyelashes.) to the Oscars and caught major flack for that. That was years ago so I assumed she learned her lesson. Guess not?

  7. MinkFur says:

I don’t think there is such a thing as too dramatic for JLO. It works for her personality.

  8. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

    Uh mah gawd.

  9. Lilly says:

I don’t have an unbiased opinion, because I love JLo, so my first thought after clicking was “Ooooooh beautiful.” I love this dress and look and because it’s JLo it’s the red carpets that got too small.

    • Kitten says:

I’m probably in the minority, but I love hot pink, especially on someone with J Lo’s skin tone. I just wish the skirt part was longer, otherwise I agree that it’s Peak J Lo.

    • Thirsty Hirsty says:

me too! And the other thing I thought was: is she hiding something (a pregnancy)? but then I realized i don’t want to be that person who polices women’s bodies, so will just stick with the…I love JLo and will say it again: she never, ever got proper credit for her movie ‘Enough’.

  10. anniefannie says:

Wow, I don’t know if Jlo’s dress mishap or something else occurred but I’ve never seen pics of such a stressed out crew before. Go to show Jlo not happy? Nobodies happy…

  11. Bubbalouie says:

Leah looks so gorgeous! But, what’s up with the damn fur? Come on, girl! Really????

  12. SlightlyAnonny says:

You know, I read the headline and thought, “how can you be too big and dramatic for the red carpet?” Then I clicked on the link. Oh. THAT is how you be too big and dramatic for the red carpet.

  13. Veronica S. says:

I’m sorry, but I love it. Anybody else? Absolutely not. But that dress is so her. It’s so bombastic and ridiculous and dramatic, and it’s the kind of color that really only works well on medium to dark skin tones. Really, the only thing I’d change is to make it a little longer in the front. That babydoll cut is just too twee past a certain age.

Not sure how I like the flower detail on Vanessa Hudgens’s dress, but I do like that color. I wish we saw coral deployed more often in dresses.

  14. Betty Whoo says:

    Nope

  15. Lisa says:

Way too much. Wrong carpet for this look.

  16. Other Renee says:

    She looks ridiculous.

  17. Sarah says:

Oh my. She looks like Super Tacky Barbie.

    • Pandy says:

Yes she does lol! Horrible color, too short, too much tulle … I do like Vanessa’s dress though. Bet JLo was not happy to see her in a workable version of her pepto bismol fail.

    • Shazze says:

The dress definitely has a Barbie doll vibe, I think its cute

  18. Tori says:

    she looks ridiculous

  19. El8zq says:

She’s getting into mimi territory with her stunting.

Instead of lingerie and lambs, it’s fishfaces and looker-me dresses from the 00s.

  20. Littlefishmom says:

I feel terrible saying this, they ALL look bad and miserable.

  21. Jegede says:

Seems JLo’s going for the Rihanna Giambattista Valli 2015 Grammy look.

The red carpet didn’t allow the effect though! lol

  22. Kaye says:

    Pregnant.

  23. Alexandria says:

That is a met gala theme gown. I don’t like pink but I’m kind of loving the ridiculousness of it.

  24. Ksweet says:

That’s neon pink, not fuschia. What a tulle nightmare that dress is, on every level. Massive fail.
