My daughter watched it and said it was okay. She loves the original Rent.

  2. Devon says:

I thought it was really good!

  3. deezee says:

I was so disappointed it wasn’t live. Why wasn’t there an understudy!?
Watching the dress rehearsal footage, all I kept thinking was “Are they really that bad at singing, or were they saving their voices for the live show?”

Outside of that, Jordan Fisher was fantastic; a real stand out. And I’ll begrudgingly admit, Vanessa Hudgens was quite good and has a powerful voice.

  4. Lilly (with the double-L) says:

That Pajiba article is spot on and witty:
    “HERE’S HOW THIS WORKS:
    • We take lots of photos of Meghan Markle
    • We only publish the photos of her holding her baby bump
    • We publish article asking why she’s always holding her baby bump
    • Our readers are triggered into hate and abuse
    • We collect the ad revenue”

I don’t know how I missed that Rent was happening until after the fact. Darn.

Spot on. It’s so bizarre … “woman places hand on her own stomach. OH, the humanity!”

  5. Steff says:

    Was Valentina good?

    • Kizzy says:

Quite honestly it was hard to tell. Their vocals for “Today for you” were sort of off for me, especially that ending. However, I don’t know if that’s because they were saving the voice for what would have been the live taping or if they really just didn’t have the range. I will say the look and mannerisms were great, but the singing took me a bit out of it. I still really enjoyed it though!

      • sommolierlady says:

I only saw one song (one of hers) while flipping channels. I kept thinking, is she as weak and off-key as I think she is? So yea, it wasn’t good. Kept flipping.

    • Mel says:

      No. She can’t sing.

      • BELLA says:

NO. she could not sing. worst part of the the show.

Roger (who broke his leg) was outstanding
Marc was ok. good at times even. I’m biased as I love Anthony Rapp.
Maureen (vanseesa hudg) AMAZEBALL voice but acting…eh. wanted to slap the smile from her face. It’s gritty not disney. I think her singing was in league with Idina (shockingly) but not the acting.
Chick who sang lead on Season of Love – AMAZING
Tom Collins – like Marc, was very good at times but no Jesse L. Martin. good lord that buttery voice….

      • Bubble bee says:

Valentina can actually sing, but I feel the part might have been a little high for her.

    • Alexis says:

      Nope. She looked amazing, though.

  6. JoJo says:

I love Brandon Victor Dixon(Tom Collins) so I watched Rent to see him.I cried a couple of times during his performances. He was the highlight of the show.

  7. dlc says:

I can’t believe they didn’t have an understudy. Also, NO Hillary and Bernie should NOT run again. I think we need someone younger, and who the Republican party hasn’t had decades to smear.

  8. Veronica S. says:

Hillary Clinton ain’t running for shit. I’ll eat my hat if she does anything more than relax in her woodland cottage drinking tea and sending out snarky comments on Twitter. This country lost the privilege to expect her to do anything for the party after 2016, despite what notoriously Woke White Men (TM) on the Internet seemed to think. *coughShaunKingcough*

  9. K.T says:

Rentlive: I cried and I couldn’t even watch the whole thing.
Twitter was picky about the whole thing – what new – but if it makes people more engaged in live theatre (I don’t care if it’s songs, a lookelook on TV or just knowing a bit more) it’s good to support these TV musicales. The ending was worth it all, but there was enough visuals & music to make it enjoyable enough.

  10. Veronica S. says:

Btw: Rent can die anytime now. I have always hated it and always will, but I possibly hate it even more now that it’s come out that the “author” of RENT actually stole most of the material from a lesbian writer who was trying to get her own musical version of her novel off the ground in the 90s. Thanks, straight people, for once again sanitizing, marginalizing, and silencing the voices of those who suffered worst at the hands of the HIV epidemic.

Rent’s music, lyrics, and book were by Jonathan Larson. This is about the Out article, right? I’d wait to hear more before I start condemning anyone. They just presented the side (an interview) of Sarah Schulman from her 1998 book. Unlike victims of sexual harrassment, I would need more proof before I believe this and more research from Harron Walker (author of the Out piece).
