Taylor Swift reveals pink hair ahead of her 4/26 launch: is she doing a fashion line?

Taylor Swift steps out in colorful outfit for Gigi Hadid's birthday party

Taylor Swift is dropping *something* on Friday. My guess is that she’s dropping her first single from her new album, plus a music video which will likely be directed by Joseph Kahn (her longtime video director). It’s clear that the new album will not be snakey and faux-hard like Reputation. Reputation was partially about Taylor’s anger, her reclaiming of the snake imagery, and her general attempts to show a badass side of herself. The styling was most dark and tomboyish, although I still maintain that she was trying to do too much with Reputation, and that’s why the styling ended up all over the place.

So, this new album/project at least seems more consistent from a styling perspective. All of her teaser images have been girlish and pink and sparkly and hazy-feminine. Taylor stepped out in New York yesterday in two outfits, and it looks like she’s already sending signals about the vibe with her street clothes and street-styling too. Taylor has dip-dyed the bottom of her hair pink. She’s still got bangs. Everything is going to be floral and girly.

Oooh, I think I understand why the styling is so different from the Reputation era, and why it’s so pastel and soft… is it because Taylor planned it out to drop the music right after Easter and she wanted to look like an Easter egg? F–k, I’m so bad at this.

Also: some of the Snake Fam have theorized that Taylor isn’t dropping new music, she’s doing a big fashion line instead. Huh. There have been clues for that as well. Why not both though? I could totally see her doing both a fashion line AND new music.

    Oh geez.

  2. FC says:

Bad ’80s fashion line? Seems on-brand for her.

    • RuddyZooKeeper says:

She’s late to the party. Everywhere I look – magazines, stores, online fashion – it looks like everything I threw away from my high school closet. Really bad late 80s through mid 90s “fashion” I was convinced would never make a comeback.

      • LadyMTL says:

I feel the exact same way! I was a teenager in the 90’s and have zero desire to revisit that fashion. I know it’s all cyclical but yeah, keep the fanny packs and neon colors and all of that stuff far, far away from me.

    • ByTheSea says:

Bags? I kinda like those briefcase-looking bags in pastel leather. *runs away*

  3. Alissa says:

Ugh, I hope it’s not a fashion line. I always enjoy T Swift’s albums so I was really hoping for a new album/song.

  4. Michael says:

I have never understood her appeal. Most of the songs I have heard from her sound really immature. Especially for somebody who is 30ish. Is she ever going to elevate her subject matter or will she be 16 until she is 40?

    • Millenial says:

This is my current beef with the teaser images. She is 30 years old and this looks like she’s 14.

  5. savu says:

The pink hair seems like an odd choice for her. Like if she was gonna do it, it should’ve been years ago. With the “evolution” of herself she pushed on us the last few years, pink hair feels a tad too… young for her?
Lately I’ve seen lots of older women rocking the crazy hair colors. Every time I see Cyndi Lauper in that drug commercial I’m envious. If I didn’t work in TV my hair would probably be gray and purple by now!

    • Kate says:

I did purple overtone right before a week-long vacation it was so fun and freeing!

    • India Rose says:

My husband & kids got me some pink hair dye last Mother’s Day. I’ve been debating when & how to use it. Damn it, now I’ll look like a Taylor Swift groupie if I dye my ends! What to do, what to do… I guess I’ll just do what I want & forget about her new ‘do. 🤔

  6. Lightpurple says:

That’s my junior high French teacher in the top picture, not Taylor Swift. We used to call her “Barbie goes to Paris.”

    • megs283 says:

there’s no one quite as savage as middle school + high school girls. God bless the teachers at my all-girls high school when I was there. We were ROUGH.

  7. Tiffany says:

And here I was thinking she was setting up to roll out an engagement announcement.

Yeah, like she was going to have a excerpt in The New York Times society section.

  8. Erinn says:

I could see this being decent. If she surrounds herself with people who really know the industry, I genuinely think this could be profitable. The key would be to not make it scream “TAYLOR SWIFT”. If she could design clothes or bags or whatever that can appeal to people who aren’t Swift fans, then she could stand to make some bank.

And I will never stop loving that mermaidy iridescent romper she wore a little while ago. And I don’t hate the floral shorts.

  9. runcmc says:

I adore her sneakers in that last pic!!! Want!

As for fashion line vs new music, meh. I like Taylor fine but I’m neither a fan nor a hater. If it’s music I’ll listen to it, if it’s clothing I’ll buy it if it’s cute and inexpensive. Otherwise I’m not going out of my way for Taylor merch.

  10. Kat says:

My guess is it’s pink and girly because she’s sooooo IN LURVE with handsome Joe and he’s made her poor heart whole again.

  11. Chaine says:

Let’s hope the fashion line doesn’t include those granny’s sofa looking print shorts.

  12. TheHufflepuffLizLemon says:

I’m interested. I like juxtaposition between very feminine aesthetics and very badass behavior-I feel like it subverts a common viewpoint that “girly” is weak. Maybe she’s doing that. Or maybe she’s doing Sparkle-Fairy-Unicorn-Farts and I will be bored to tears. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Kinda off topic:
What I wonder about celebrities: I can get my self tanner to look perfectly smooth as Taylor’s legs do above. I have been using it for 25 years and have tried every brand out there, and I know what works with my skin. I can make my feet look perfectly glowy and natural and blended. BUT. How do you keep your tan on your feet from getting messed up day 2-3-4 during workouts? Is it just exfoliate and reapply? This is the one tan issue I am struggling with since I started working out a few years ago. If any CBer either knows the secret or has conquered this, please share!

    Cat purse? Really?

    • Rachel Phelps says:

My daughter just got a puppy purse for Easter. She’s four. TS is way older than four. That is all.

  14. Valiantly Varnished says:

Well, whatever it is it looks basic AF.

  15. jammypants says:

I like the first outfit. The second is pretty meh. Nice colors though. Very spring.

While I find her personal style cringey (cat purse really?), I think her being more authentic is more enjoyable than the “badass” thing she tried to do. That was serious cringe. This one seems more her, therefore, more tolerable.

  16. Ponytail says:

Is it just me or does she look like Roseanne Arquette in that last pic?

  17. Leriel says:

She tried to pull Beyonce with last album, it *kind of* failed, and now she’s trying to do all Rihanna?

    • GenericUserName123 says:

Reputation was the highest selling album and she had the 2nd highest grossing tour (behind Ed Sheeran).

Why are people still acting like it was a flop?

      • Leriel says:

I meant how it was sold – without PR and interviews, just like Beyonce sold Lemonade.

      • Lolly says:

@Genericusernane123 I think it can be considered a failure by how the general public reacted to it. Taylor has millions of hardcore fans. Her albums will never fully “flop” unless she does something horrifying. Her 1989 album was such a commercial success; constantly on the radio, breaking records on the charts. Reputation barely made a ripple in the public.

      • Beach Dreams says:

It’s considered a flop because of how the general public pretty much ignored her singles. Some of her songs had a brief stint in the top 20 and dropped. I think Delicate finally reached a respectable position (for an artist of her status) after several months? Taylor has such a large and dedicated fanbase that she’ll always get great album sales. It’s the singles that really drive an album era, and Reputation’s singles simply didn’t make the cut.

      • GenericUserName123 says:

        @Beachdreams & Lolly

She had 2 number 1 singles off Reputation. Was it as popular as 1989? Nope, but not many albums are.

It is odd to me that people use the fact that she has “millions of hardcore fans” against her. Like – “It doesn’t matter how much her album/ tour sold, she has millions of hardcore fans! It didn’t do well with the non-fans…” That’s a head scratcher.

    • Alissa says:

      is Rihanna pastels and flowers??!

I don’t really see either aesthetic as being Rihanna or Beyoncé, tbh.

    • Bee says:

The ultimate problem with TS is that all of her most “popular” work dates, and dates rapidly. No one will be playing her songs in one year, let alone ten or twenty. So she will never be iconic. In being so desperate to be current, she’s failing at leaving any indelible mark on music.

  18. Ira says:

    Great legs!

  19. me says:

So she went from snakes and darkness to rainbows and sparkles? This has to be a new album…a softer one…because she’s soooo in love lol.

  20. Usedtobe says:

Would love some new T-Swizzle music 😉

  21. Daisy says:

This whole new Taylor era looks kinda childish. It’s like she wanted a Carly Rae Jepsen or Kacey Musgraves aesthetic but ended up doing Lisa Frank.
But I’m curious about the music, hopefully is nothing like reputation.

  22. Ellie says:

If she is dropping a new album, I hope she spent more than 5 minutes on the songs that she wrote for it. I can’t take another ridiculous song like “Gorgeous” where she rhymes “sad” with “mad”.

  23. Danielle says:

Reminds me of Katy Perry’s vibe when she was promoting the Teenage Dream album! It was all pastel colours and she had pink hair too around that time if memory serves.

  24. terrah says:

she can write a decent hook no question – everybody’s watching her, but she’s looking at choooooooo etc – but too many of her get ups are difficult to understand and actively embarrassing…look what she put on today. madness.

  25. Dttimes2 says:

So i guess she didnt get the denim memo for Gigli’s birthday party.

  26. Grey says:

Pink hair is now officially OVER.

    That blazer is horrific.

  27. Lizzie says:

    god she’s so lame.

  28. sammiches says:

Sometimes I wonder if Swift even knows who she is. She’s constantly just putting on different personalities to the public to match whatever bull narrative she’s trying to sell but, at the end of the day, does she even actually know who the hell she is?

  29. Jane says:

I am so TIRED of her.

  30. Beach Dreams says:

The pink tips look cheap and awful.

  31. jammypants says:

Ever since someone pointed out that she never closes her mouth, I can’t unsee. It’s all I see.
