Kim Kardashian ‘can definitely empathize’ with the Duke & Duchess of Sussex

Kim Kardashian West wearing Versace arrives at the 2019 E! People's Choice Awards held at Barker Hangar on November 10, 2019 in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California, United States.

Kim Kardashian has always thought of herself as American royalty. I’m not even joking! When she married Kris Humphries, she blew it out like it was a royal wedding, and for years, it felt like she was following/copying/mimicking the Duchess of Cambridge’s major moves. Still, all of Kim’s “American royalty” stuff was years ago and I think maybe she’s gotten over it. Maybe she sees that British royalty isn’t all that, especially now that Kim has dealt with some bulls–t in her own life (her marriage to Kanye, his mental health issues, getting robbed in Paris). Well, Kim was asked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and she had some thoughts:

Kim Kardashian has weighed in on whether she relates to the public scrutiny experienced by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. As a member of one of the most famous families in the world, the 39-year-old reality star said she ’empathises’ with the royal pair. Appearing on Australia’s The Sunday Project this weekend, Kim was asked if she felt sympathy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Kim replied: ‘I think everyone has their own journey. I think their journey is extremely personal, with what [ Harry’s] mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi. I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them. But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, and what I would want for them is just the safest place. I can definitely empathise with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it’.

What’s interesting, I suppose, is that Kim keeps up with royal news and she has a surprisingly good “take” on the Sussexes’ need for privacy and control over their own narratives. I agree with Kim that much of what’s happening with and around the Sussexes is Harry working through some old stuff about his mother, especially now that he’s a father. Kim is right about how everything shifted for Meghan and Harry when Archie came, because a lot of sh-t shifted for her when she had her kids. Anyway… Kim Kardashian had something interesting to say about the royals. Who knew.

Well, I too am surprised that she has a decent take on the Sussex Situation and didn’t just drop a run-of-the-mill support statement.

Meh, “journey” “extremely personal journey” “I have kids” “safe place” “having privacy.” Nothing revelatory here.

  3. Chimney says:

She will no doubt try to ingratiate herself with them the way she’s been trying with Beyoncé for years. It was a kind statement though.

Lol and Beyonce wants nothing to do with her. It was a fine statement – and yeah nothing groundbreaking – and I expected worse from the headline. But that said it’s good to say those things but she does trot those kids around in front of the cameras a lot. I remember a shot of her oldest daughter crying and looking terrified at the paparazzi.

Oh man I remember the people spread after her wedding to Humphries. I think it was literally titled “America’s Royal Wedding!!!!” and then they split up, what,6 weeks later?

I am not a Kim fan but I think what she says makes sense and I think that she can probably relate a lot more to the Sussexes than other people. she does put her life out there and that’s how she became famous, so its a little different, but I think in as much as she is a “public figure” she can understand that its hard when you share so much of your life but then try to draw the line, especially with your kids.

I have noticed over the last few years that as the popularity of Kardashian’s started to wane that Team Sussex were on the rise to becoming more popular.

Basically the world has moved on and in a strike of fate Kim now has to mention other trending power couples to garner column inches. That is not to say she’s over, but it certainly seems like the new population are more interested in Kyle, Bella and Nicole.

Decent comments, though her talking anything about privacy is a bit eye roll inducing.

Wow if Kim Karadashian is considered Amerivsn royalty I would move countries

What does it say when Kim Kardashian putting together a coherent thought is considered news?

In all due respect she was asked a question. Her opinion means zilch in general terms for the Sussexes and royalty in particular. Her wealth is derived from excellent use of social media and merchandising , I will defer to her in those regards.

She actually sounds very level headed here.

How many pictures of her kids doing who knows what has she posted on IG? For someone wanting a “safe space” and privacy for her kids, that seems kind of backwards. But at least she said something “empathetic” about the Sussexes. I am sure they appreciate that, although I can’t help but think of this as a way to wrangle a royal invitation or photo op from H&M in the future.

I admire Kim Kardashian. I don’t like her fashion or the family TV show, so I am not a fan. But I think she is extremely intelligent and has done a better job as de facto CEO (I think probably Kris Jenner is the Chairman of the Board) of her family’s empire than most CEOs in the world. She basically launched the family as an entertainment start-up and grew it into a major corporation, some of whose subsidiaries (Kylie’s business) have become immensely successful orgs on their own. When she talks about reforming the prison system, I believe she really grasps the facts and understands the issues. I agree that much of what she says is shallow and insipid but then again, that is the product brand. It never surprises me when she says something that shows she is thoughtful and decisive and good at processing information. Someone told me recently that Kanye said Kim set his finances in order, they were a mess before she came along. I believe it.

Kim K has her faults, but also her strengths and she does understand the media. She likes the media spotlight, but she’s also experienced negatives of what media attention can bring. So I think she would have a lot of sympathy for someone struggling with media attention, despite the fact she personally, likes to have as much press as possible.

Kim Kardashian has absolutely no right to complain about anything having to do with scrutiny of the public. She has sold herself out in every possible way and made every attempt to get people to look at her and she doesn’t have the right to now say she doesn’t love it. And as far as her being Hollywood royalty, she isn’t royalty of any kind because she has no talent. She’s famous for doing nothing. I don’t know why she’s a legend in her own mind but that makes it obvious to me why she’s married to Kanye West except at least Kanye has a job and talent even if he is a little bitNutty
