Caitriona Balfe in vintage Chanel at the ‘Outlander’ Season 5 premiere: cute or no?

Here are some photos from the Season 5 premiere event for Outlander. It’s my little Valentine’s Day present to all the Outlander peeps out there: God bless you for trying to keep up with the stories and plotlines, because everytime I see a commercial for the series, I’m like “wait they’re doing what now?” I think they’re fighting in the American Civil War now? Sure, okay. Anyway, some people stan Sam Heughan, so here you are.

Personally, I like Caitriona Balfe and I find her super-pretty and usually quite fashionable (albeit pretty conservative). Balfe wore this vintage Chanel gown to the premiere and… well… it’s not great? Kudos to her for wearing vintage and all, but whenever the gown was made, they clearly did not understand where women’s breasts are located. I’m also including a photo with their costars Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin.

My little Balfe story of the month is that I watched Ford v. Ferreri a few weekends ago and I was like “who is this woman with bangs playing Christian Bale’s wife?” I couldn’t place her at all and then I just kept on forgetting to look it up. It was only AFTER the Oscars that I realized that Caitriona was invited to the show and all the parties because she was that character. Bangs really do make a difference, peeps.

Her dress looks like a babydoll negligee. Her arm candy’s great, though.

  2. bonobochick says:

I don’t think it’s flattering. It looks weird on her boobs.

  3. Valiantly Varnished says:

I think she is beautiful and I love her style. The dress is pretty but sits too low on her bust IMO. It needed a hoik. And lol at your bangs comment. They DONT make that much of a difference lol. She looked like herself to me in that film. Just with bangs! 😂

    Sophie Skelton’s dress is hideous?

I rarely feel embarrassed for a red carpet victim, but couldn’t look twice at my pretty pony. Ok, I’m feeling brave here I scroll…oh…haha, that’s Brianna? I’m going to put money on some annoyance that reaps Stylist Revenge?

  5. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

They do know where women’s breasts are. Some man said, “Let’s do a half translucent, half opaque bewb! Let the opaque anchor the gravity allowing translucent overflow! It’ll make everyone wanna touch!”

    • tiredTreaded says:

Remember her character’s red dress at a Paris gala in the series? ‘Twas an equal mish mash cougar thirst of “look at my boobs”. Is this the actresses influence or a stylist thing? Can’t put the girls away, yet can’t do them justice?

I’ve watched the first 3 seasons on Netflix (not paying extra for Starz). I’ve enjoyed it for what it is and I find some of the actors very talented like Tobias Menzies (who I think is on The Crown now) and the two main leads. You have to hand it to Sam, some of the lines during love scenes are so ridiculous and he manages to pull it off. Some of the plot is nonsensical and it is quite annoying how often rape is used as a plot device though I realize it was sadly very common back then.

What I would like to know is does Sophie Skelton’s acting get better as Brianna as the seasons go on? Because as soon as she was introduced in season 2 I was so amused at how bad she was. I know she is British and not using her natural accent since Brianna’s character grew up in the US. But she stands out like a sore thumb in a cast that is otherwise very talented.

The whole series is ridiculous at face value any way you slice it, but as a complete moron fan of fantasy, history and Celtic origins, they start playing the theme song and I’m all in lol. And yes, Tobias is excellent at acting as he always manages to make me hate him. And true, rape has been pretty much “all the rage,” pre….uh….modern times sadly. The prison scenes were hard, but I haven’t seen to many male-male atrocities. We humans can be exceedingly vile. All in all I’ve liked the series, but haven’t been able to pick it back up after the Caribbean adventure. I want to, but like you said, once you’re knee deep in storylines, conversations can be quite cheesy and tedious. And her daughter never stood out, like at ALL. Guess it’s a good thing because she had to go from brat to assisting a time travel trip in a matter of a couple of episodes lol. She’s not memorable, but won’t she have to be at some point? I mean, come on. Surely she meets Daddy.

Unfortunately her acting doesn’t improve in season 4, it kind of gets worse. And yes some of Sam’s lines are SO cheesy! He’s a good actor but the writing is super hokey at times. I can’t voice these opinions in the fan Reddit or I’ll get crucified lmao. I’m a huge fan of the books but not so much of the show. They have such great source material but sadly the production has declined since Roger Moore was at the helm.

      • Dee says:

They’ve gone way off book now and it’s a tossup whether I’ll even watch. It’s all a fantasy romance novel with no grounding in reality. The first season had a stronger sense of being grounded in Scotland, even though it’s got time travel. But It all started going off the rails in Season 3 and Season 4 was pretty much playing house in a fantasy cabin and adventures happening one after the other. Rape as a plot device gets old fast. I think you mean Ron Moore and not Roger Moore, though I’m sure the late 007 actor would have some fun with this series.

I’m not one to “womb-watch” and I fully believe that if someone wants to have babies or not is their choice and no-one else’s, but I’m getting baby vibes due to the style of the dress and the sweaty “just vomited” glow that I remember so vividly from my pregnancies.

  8. ME says:

Dresses like that make me nervous lol. I keep thinking it will slip and we’ll see nipples.

  9. KBeth says:

She’s so pretty but this is not her best look.

  10. Faye says:

OMG WHAT is Sophie wearing?? That is a look straight out of Disney on Ice. Her fashion tastes are strange, in one promo photo her bright orange bra is hanging out of her dress. So bad.

I’m not wild about Cait’s dress, a little tailoring and lift age in the bust area would’ve made a world of difference. She’s so striking but her fashion choices are also a little off sometimes too.

  11. Diamond Rottweiler says:

Bear with me, but I sometimes wonder if culturally various countries have a different idea of where a lady’s boobs are supposed to sit most flatteringly in a dress? Because British women on the red carpet seem to have this lower boob, not as much support in the bodice thing going on more regularly than I see in their American counterparts. And Balfe does this fairly regularly (though it’s strikingly noticeable here). I have to say, the feminist in me is disgusted by my dislike of the more natural boobline. And yet I can’t quite get used to what is just a natural sort of droop. Thanks, patriarchy!

  12. Lizstarsnstripes says:

Is that a huge zit on Sam Heughan’s face?

  13. SJR says:

That dress needs a good Upward tug!

I’ve never watched this show but, the lead actor is a good looking fella.
Reminds me of James Norton, all broad shoulders and cheekbones

  14. Zantasia says:

She could wear a paper bag covered in an egg salad sandwich and still command everyone’s attention as the most beautiful person on that stage.

  15. It's a dry heave says:

Clearly not a custom dress, or the boob pieces would be “taller.”

Just got introduced to Sam for the first time ever last night on Colbert, and spent the rest of the evening Googling him ….WOOF!!!!

  16. Cali says:

The books are amazing. The show is okay. Seasons 1 and 2 were the best. But 4 was not good. Five is starting out stronger and I have higher hopes now that Sam and Cait are producers as well. And Diana shared that she wrote 2 episodes this season so fingers crossed!

Caitroina looks stunning. They did a round table the other day and I kept thinking that she needed to hire full time whomever did her hair and makeup for it. It was perfection.

Sophie’s dress is sorta fun but hilariously awful at the same time. I love hate it so much.

it looks like a maternity silhouette
