Last week, people were obsessed with the fact that Britney Spears casually revealed that she burned down her gym ā€œsix months agoā€ because she left a couple of candles unattended. Britney revealed this on Instagram, where she was trying to make a video about her workouts, but people just paid attention to the first part:

Grown-ass adults leave candles unattended all the time, so Iā€™m not going to make Britneyā€™s Big Firestarter Energy into a thing. She wasnā€™t committing arson (as far as we know), she was just forgetful and well, it happens. Anyway, now this story is being combined with an update on Britneyā€™s conservatorship:

Britney Spearsā€™ conservatorship has been extended until at least the end of the summer. According to court documents obtained by ET, judge Brenda Penny issued an order authorizing the temporary conservator, Jodi Montgomery, to stay on Spears’ conservatorship until at least August 22, 2020. Per the docs, the extension comes after the judge decided a hearing on the matter could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spears’ father, Jamie, stepped down as her conservator in September 2019. Jamie had previously petitioned the court to hand over the reins of the singer’s conservatorship, citing ongoing health issues. A judge approved the request and appointed Montgomery, Spear’s longtime care manager, as her new conservator.

The news comes after the 38-year-old’s family was apparently feeling some anxiety after Spears shared that she accidentally set fire to her home gym. “Her family worries because they know Britney can get distracted and forget,” the source told ET. “These are all things she works on in therapy.”

Worry aside, things between Spears and her family are currently “good.” “Things were difficult for some time with the kids” — son Jayden made news earlier this year when he spoke on her personal life via social media — “but their relationship has been good.”

[From ET]

Yeah, it sounds like Britneyā€™s conservatorship extension is mostly about the pandemic lockdown, rather than any recent concerns that Britney canā€™t take care of herself. And I hope that the gym-fire isnā€™t used against her regarding the conservatorship – accidents happen and it could have happened to anyone. I do wonder why Jamie Spears is so hellbent on keeping Britney in the conservatorship though. At this point, I do think that sheā€™s outgrown it on a personal level. On a business level, yes, obviously she still needs to be in some kind of situation which protects her money and all of that.

I follow her on IG and she often posts whimsical and fun videos and pictures. Some are a little disturbing when it seems she can’t stay still and hasn’t washed her hair or face in days. Then again, I know other adults who do the same.

I hope she is able to break free of her conservatorship soon and take control of her own life,at least personally. It’s been over 10 years. She clearly has some mental health issues but many people do, it’s manageable.

she doesn’t have relatively minor mental health issues and is prone to going off her meds/needing admission to re-tool her regimen. I don’t understand why her fans are so quick to say she needs to break free from her conservatorship as if it’s been bad for her.

Yeah that video especially seems, um not right? Itā€™s worrisome and if one of my friends posted a video where they couldnā€™t stand still, talked like that and looked vacant like that I would be worried. Iā€™m not blaming her, she clearly has mental health issues and needs meds to help her and I donā€™t shame her for that at all but yeah she doesnā€™t need to be left to her own devices. Weā€™ve seen where that gets her hence why she needs a conservatorship. Now is her dad that best person for that job?

      • Stef says:

We don’t know exactly what her condition is, so arm chair psych evaluations are pointless. She’s trying and has been for a while, which should count for something.

Of course her business dealings should be managed by a 3rd party, and KFed has primary custody, but she should be able to at least try and manage more aspects of her personal life. Mental illness shouldnt require parental management for the rest of her life. Perhaps she’s still acting child-like because she’s treated like a child. It’s been 10+ years since her breakdown and she’s almost 40 now…

        Yes she still need

I follow her too, and I find her content disturbing most of the time. I try not to judge anyone but its just endless photos and videos of her dancing and being silly in children’s clothing. I don’t police anyone or their body or what they wear, but there’s an underlying current of child like behavior that makes me uncomfortable for her. As if her mental state is that of an adolescent. I have always had a soft spot for her and am always hoping for her overall health and state of mind, but I do think she needs some assistance with managing her finances and business. However that would look.

Her instagram is a MESS. She wished her sister happy birthday on the wrong day, she constantly rambles in a baby voice, and it’s basically the account of a not-too-smart teenager with too much time, minimal hygiene, and not nearly enough content.

No way I’d give her custody of two teenage boys or control of her millions. No way.

      • Jules says:

Honest question, is it her real voice in these videos, or is she editing them to sound childlike? Britney has been through it, I wish her the best, girl needs a break.

    • Ed says:

      She need it

Like many people, I have always had a soft spot for Britney. I hope she doesn’t do a Mariah or a Madonna with the too young sexualized dressing, but afraid she will. šŸ˜„ Also, she looks like Heather Locklear in the 2nd photo.

Love Brit Brit and hope sheā€™s well.

As an adult I know better than to leave candles unattended, ever. I just don’t do it. Outside of the structural damage, people could actually die. Burning down your garage is no small thing, and in my view extremely irresponsible

  5. No Doubt says:

I find her videos to be disturbing. Her mentality, maturity and style are all stuck in the year 2002. I’m glad she has at least been able to take a long break from work. She seems happier being semi-retired and hanging with her kids and her boyfriend.

  6. Gemenichic says:

Iā€™m so confused by this whole story. She burned it down 6 months ago and now 6 months later she still only has 2 pieces of equipment?

Is she not able to buy replacements? Is her monthly allowance that low?

Like, what is happening from a money perspective?
