Saints Angelina & Shiloh Jolie-Pitt “rescue a village of kids”

This story was too funny to pass up. Probably because I’m a little tired and punch-drunk, I keep thinking about CB’s post from yesterday, the one about Brad Pitt offering Quentin Tarantino a “slice” off of a hash brick and a coke-can bong. I keep imagining little Shiloh watching her daddy and yelling, “No, Daddy! I hate it when the nasty smoke monster comes to play. Waah!” And then Shiloh runs to Angelina, who takes out her “Keeping Brad In Line” whip and mutters to Shi, “Don’t worry, baby, Mama’s gonna take care of that nasty smoke monster.” And yes, I am referencing Lost in a Brangelina fantasy.

Anyhoodle, this story just made me think about that. Because it’s about Saint Angelina, and her holy progeny, Saint Shiloh. And before everyone jumps down my throat for saying the dreaded “saint” word – I didn’t say it first, and I have never said that about Angelina. I don’t think she’s a saint. I just think she’s a good, interesting person that is the target of some of the nastiest gossip out there. This is a fawning story from Life & Style about people referring to Angelina as a “saint”. The people are a group of kids that were helped by donations from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to a Namibian school. Unfortunately, the tagline for this story is “Shiloh Rescued a Village of Kids!”

The children attending the Okanimekwa school in Namibia have never seen an Angelina Jolie movie or read about her and Brad Pitt in magazines.

Yet they’re certain how they feel about the star. “She’s a very special person, and we’ll never forget her,” 16-year-old student Emiliana Shikongo tells Life & Style.

“She must be a holy person,” adds another student, Andreas Kristofelius, 17. “I think Angelina Jolie must be a saint.”

The reason for their adoration? Angelina changed the lives of the 589 children at the school — along with thousands of other Namibians — after giving birth to daughter Shiloh in the African nation in 2006.

When Angie and Brad sold Shiloh’s baby pictures, they said that the proceeds, a reported $4 million, would go to help children in Africa and other parts of the world.

[From Life & Style]

Well, that’s lovely. I guess that the part about the donated money is true, but I would also guess the kids were probably coached to say certain things. Or perhaps Shiloh did don a cape and run into the school to save all of those kids. Anything’s possible with that little saint.

Yes she is a Saint of hos

  2. Bubulle says:

It’s a cute story, I’m happy for those kids.

  3. truthSF says:

NO, NO, NO, it wasn’t Angelina or Shiloh who helped them. It was Empress Z. who came down, and blessed her ppl.

  4. kristin says:

The Saint gave this money in 2006. Why is this in the news three and a half years later? Another example of the Brange using their charitable donations to counter bad press (the PittBong scandal of yesterday).

  5. Stan says:

    Saint of the permanent bitchface

  6. maddie says:

@ Dee, Kristin and Stan, why did you post your comments somewhere in the “The Brangeloonies” are plotting your downfall right now.

Beware don’t leave your house alone with out police protection! Watch for cars that might be following you.

Because you spoke ill of the Sainted Saints they will put a hex on you all.

  7. dee says:

    I totally agree with Kristin.
    You rock girl….

  8. Annie says:

How is Brad Pitt using a bong a scandal? Or surprising? LOL.

Nice gesture, regardless of when it happened.

  9. rop says:

I doubt they were coached. Those people probably got soooo much with that donation that they really do think she must be a saint. I think it was just said in admiration. Not much else to it.
My goodness that kid looks like her dad!
I’ve never been one to think that gender roles should be so rigid but why do Shiloh’s parents always make her look like a rag muffin. Cute kid but always looks frazzled.

  10. karen says:

Hey #7, Brad said they let their kids choose their own styles and how to look, so each kid will develop their own personality. SO, judging from Shiloh’s look, she is gonna be slightly butch. I’m just kidding. I guess fashion isn’t her thing, unlike Suri who will be a total super model.

  11. e-non says:

oh goodie, an evening’s entertainment reading the hate…. 4..3..2..1..

  12. rop says:

Really? ‘Cause there is only two hateful comments out of the 8? Everyone else is being fair and non-hateful.

  13. Giz says:

I’m not a huge fan of Jolie or Pitt; however, I admire their incredible sense of responsibility for those in need and without playing politics!

You can slam the couple all you want, but when was the last time any of you hate mongers pulled out your check book to help someone in besides yourself, family member or someone you owe money to? Yeah…right…

  14. Hannah says:

without politics? hardly. I am not a hater, but overall i think she is blah, that is all.

However, its funny (and incorrect) to assume that nobody else donates money. just because you don’t doesn’t mean nobody else does. Sure, I can’t donate 4 million dollars, but thats because nobody is gonna pay me 4 million to show them a picture of my kid, nor do i make 50some million a year.

  15. Charity is Chic says:

Weird how this story makes its way into a tabloid the same week Brad has a movie coming out. I’m sure it’s just pure coincidence.

And yesterday was the day Quentin Tarantino outed Brad as using drugs while his kids are asleep upstairs despite Brad’s claims that he quit.

That being said, this story was written last week. It’s to promote the movie.

  16. Who Cares says:

    Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn.

I guess we all need sunglasses since the halo is glowing so brightly.

  17. Firestarter says:

What?????The Jolie-Pitts are charitable? Wow, who knew?!

  18. Beth says:

Comments that Brad planted the story because of bad press or to promote the movie doesn’t make sense. The magazine was probably in the printing stages by the time Quentin did his interview. Wouldn’t it make a bigger impact to make a new donation and to go to a more respectable tabloid like People Mag for publicity? I never understand the logic in saying because of a donation, people are going to see the movie. People go to the movies because they have an interest in it not because a celebrity did something for charity.

  19. Charity is Chic says:

Beth, the donations keep them in the news. Keeping them in the news reminds people that he has a movie coming out. Why is this so complicated to understand? And as I mentioned in my post, this story was written last week–about something that took place THREE years ago. It’s to promote the movie, not overshadow Quentin’s comments.

This interview with the student and the story itself just happens to come out NOW, the week Brad has a movie coming out. Is there nothing that seems strange to you about that?

Also, Brad and Angie went to People Magazine. See last weeks’ cover story. Everyone else in the “Promote Brad and Angie’s Awesomeness Brigade” is relegated to the tabloids to help promote them. I’m sure this student has no idea she is promoting the movie. She was just made available for an interview at a convenient time for them.

As for the donations, if you look at the week of Brad and Angie’s last three or four movie releases you will see that they chose those specific weeks to make big donations. People have caught onto the convenient timing of those donations. The New York Times wrote an entire article about it.

They exploit the sex life, the kids, the charities, whatever works as long as they can get people like you into the movie theater. So hurry up and get out your wallet.

  20. luckystarr says:

You know, what other stars are giving money to Africa. I used to question Brangelina, but hey, good for their philanthropy. More uber-rich stars should give more money to charity or help those in need.

  21. anon1000 says:

got my wallet out today and got tickets early for all my family. can’t wait for friday!!

  22. Sister Mary Francis says:

These sluts make baby jesus frown 🙁

  23. sarah says:

You’re disgusting #21. Say what you want about Angelina but to attack a 3 year old is gross.

  24. Beth says:

Charity, you are not the only person posting. Others said Brad released this story because of bad publicity. Why can’t you understand that it’s stupid to do a 3 year old story in one of the least reliable tabloids instead of doing a new donation with a press release or interview? Don’t you think it’s a little ridiculous to say that people who had no intention to see this movie are now dying to see it because of this story? The movie isn’t even mentioned in the story so how does that promote the movie? Even if you know about the movie, why would you see a movie because of a donation? Nevermind, you’re right. Nobody in the world wanted to see this movie. But because of this story, people are lining up at theatres.

  25. Kevin says:

Anon, I’m going to see it too. I’m glad that they help out the less fortunate. Doesn’t make a difference whether I see a movie or not tho. I rented that movie WANTED at the suggestion of another poster a week or two ago. I still think Angie blows as an actor. She is back on my won’t watch if she’s in it list.

  26. anon1000 says:

  27. Laura says:

It been almost 5 years, can’t we give angie a break? Shes the most saintie person i fake know/wanna know. I love them.

‘And yes, I am referencing Lost in a Brangelina fantasy.’ <— we should be friends

  28. Hieronymus Grex says:

All aboard the Bitter-Jealousy Express, now leaving Track 22!!

For some celebs, if they squander their money they’re an a$$hole, if they use it help other people, they’re still an A$$hole.

    Just can’t win.

  29. Shanny says:

Kristen has nailed it, I agree with Kristen too.

  30. fancyamazon says:

The fact that they donate money to charity is great and all, but I’m willing to bet that there are other celebrities giving to charity as well without it being splashed all over the media outlets ad nauseum.

I donate money to charity myself, and don’t feel the need to broadcast it to everyone I know. I think it detracts from the gift to throw how great you are in everyone’s face. Also, how much of the money they give actually goes to those in need? Many charities and trust funds etc spend as much or more growing the organisation as they do helping the people the charity is purported to support. And they can well afford to spend a bunch of cash on others as well, although I would never say that anyone should spend their money in this or that way.

Dictating a passing of cash from the rich to the poor without personal feelings of goodwill is akin to communism, and I notice many times that Americans seem to think that the rich are obligated to give while living in and actively supporting a system (capitalism) which favours and encourages the keeping of treasures for oneself, and ammassing the most possible.

The amount of money a person has in no way makes their obligation to their community or the world at large more or less than that of people with less.

  31. Praise St. Angie! says:

“The fact that they donate money to charity is great and all, but I’m willing to bet that there are other celebrities giving to charity as well without it being splashed all over the media outlets ad nauseum.”

yes, fancy, yes there are. and no, they don’t splash the news all over.

  32. Surfergrl says:

Shiloh is so cute…obvious she dresses herself. Pax & Zahara look as trashy as their skanky mother.

  33. princess pea says:

Those pictures are clearly of impostors. The children are wearing COLORS. Well, that might be Pax, as he is garbed in the Jolie-Pitt uniform of army green and black. But that little girl in pink? And the blond in lime green crocs? Totally fakes. Man, Brange is getting good at fooling us.

  34. lucy says:

In the long run, kids in need were helped, and that’s what’s most important. So regardless of anything else, that’s good.
But I do think the Brange are very good at media and PR (with a few exceptions, such as Brad’s current press) and I do think the whole super-charitable thing is to counteract bad press and promote themselves and their careers. Every time one of the has a movie out, stories like this surface, or photos of the kids, or some People mag article.
I will always believe that ANY celeb who issues a press release about a donation they made has ulterior motives. I’m sure there are many, many people out there who are equally or more generous than those we see publicizing their charity, but they choose to do it quietly. I have more respect for them. In the end, I doubt the people being helped care either way.

  35. Propaganda says:

    Hey, #11

Truth and individual opinion is not hate. Brangelina can’t handle that people see through their charade and just call it hate.

Also, why would you want to spend an entire evening reading hate? Unless you’re paid to do it.

  36. No Propaganda says:

#8, if it’s hate then why would you stay up all night reading it? Are you paid?

Truth and personal opinion are not hate. Just because people see through their charade, they can’t handle it and try to call it hate.

  37. No propaganda says:

    Correction: #11, not #8.

  38. kim says:

Brad has a movie coming out and bad press regarding pot use so why not plant an article about his charity work in NOLA there are plenty of pics when he was there 2 weeks ago. Why plant an article that barely mentions him . He’s not even on the cover. So people are going to see IB because Angie is on the cover of L&S about a 3y.o. donation. GMAFB

  39. Anna says:

Jen’s been with more guys since the divorce than Angelina has in her whole life. I guess that makes HER a ho too.

  40. Surfergrl says:

“Jen’s been with more guys since the divorce than Angelina has in her whole life. I guess that makes HER a ho too.”

How many guys has Angie been with “in her whole life”? Don’t forget to count the women….

  41. Praise St. Angie! says:

anna, how is it you know actual numbers of how many guys either woman has “been” with?

just because a tabloid links Aniston to a guy doesn’t mean she’s “been with” him.

and though Jolie was always tight-lipped about WHO her partners were, she’s made no bones about the fact that she’s had a few, both male and female. never spoke numbers though, so how is it that you know how many each has “been with”?

  42. princess pea says:

Whoa, Anna, back the heck up.

Who said anything about Aniston? Why do Brangeloonies always have to drag Aniston into it?

  43. Firestarter says:

And again, Aniston is brought up when the article isn’t even about her.

    Jeez!

Oh and Anna, how the heck do you know the intimacies of either woman’s life?

  44. celeveland says:

SO WHAT if they bring up Aniston? You guys are always squawking about Brangelina. So, Jen-a-crazies have a HARD-ON for Brangelina, while the Brange-a-crazies love to trash Jen. LOOK in the mirror, idiots, you are both crazy freaks obsessed with a 5yr old split. NO SIDE is better than the other. It’s just the same tired shit over and over and over

  45. maritza says:

I agree with Kristen and I’d love see pictures of that school.

  46. Anna says:

Jen seems to go out of her way to make sure the tabs know about it.

  47. BRUSH HER HAIR says:

For $4m, they should have built the children a school, provided supplies, and paid for the teachers.

  48. kris says:

I wonder why everyone needs to be bitchy how Brangelina handles their life? As far as Brangelia seeking attention, maybe I have missed something, but majority of their pics I see are about doing normal everyday things with family, shopping, dining, etc. When Ange and Brad has a movie to promote, they will get dressed up for the red carpet, that is called their JOB. It is always amusing to read what people think other people should do with their money, how they should promote their projects and how they should help others. This is what we call.. damn if you do, damn if you dont. I think whether all of us like it or not, there are still people like this couple who are trying their best to help humanity. Their scale to help is really big and i think we should appreciate that generosity.

And by the way, they plegde that money years ago.. i think we should be happy that they were true to their words by keeping that promise may the news just reach us now -may it be timing or not to Brads movie. And I believe also that we should also ready ourselves because they still got more millions of money for distribution from the twins photos — so haters.. try to compose now your hate comments. there are more donations coming from the Jolie-Pitts.

  49. wHat says:

How many posters here are actually from Africa? Build a school and pay teachers? How fugging laughable. I happen to be from Namibia. But thanks again for reminding me why we think Americans are amongst the dumbest people on earth!
