Queen Elizabeth, 94, refused to wear a mask for her first public event in 7 months

Queen Elizabeth II stepped out today for her first public event since March. Petty Betty has been doing “events” in the past seven months, but they’ve just been speeches from Windsor Castle, a handful of appearances at the castle (like her stupid Trooping parade) and a couple of Zoom calls. She traveled to Salisbury with Prince William, and they paid a visit to the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory.

So for her first big appearance in public in seven months, the Queen chose to… go maskless. This petty B is 94 years old and she’s been isolated in the HMS Bubble at great expense, with dozens (if not hundreds) of security staff and household staff having to spend a great deal of time isolated from their families just so they can keep the Queen safe. And then she wanders out for her first public event maskless. William refused to wear a mask as well. According to various royal reporters, the Queen “consulted” with her doctors, and she’s had recent negative covid tests, as have the staff at the DSTL.

I’m a broken record, I know. British people are always screaming that I’m a dumb American who doesn’t understand the rules and regulations in other countries regarding mask mandates. I get that every country is doing their own thing re: masks. But I will say again and again: every royal person, regardless of age, has a duty and responsibility to role model mask-wearing, regardless of what the particulars are in those countries. Mask mandates and mask-wearing are saving lives. It is deeply irresponsible, tone-deaf and yes, despicable, for both the Queen and Prince William to appear maskless at her first public event in seven months.

We’ll see how god’s chosen monarch lasts against an aerosol air traveling virus.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

      I’m betting on the virus.

      Hubris never wins.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Hmm. So many thoughts and too little time to express them. Maybe all this has more to do with the optics of the FFK being seen with the monarch at all costs, maskless or not. I think they know they are losing ground very badly to the second court in California. Time to remind us plebs and the brexiteers that this is the ‘true’ monarchy past and future. I don’t know why the unveiling of a plaque could not have been done by the William. Lord knows it’s not difficult. Why wheel out HM the Queen? Seems like it’s the turn of science to host members of the RF for a week or so. Another PR attempt not quite landing.

      • windyriver says:

Yup, it’s all about dutiful William having the seal of approval from HM. That’s the message, wouldn’t be the same if Will was there by himself.

      • 2cents says:

It’s a PR offensive. No coincidence that this engagement is today! The Queen is openly showing her support for William on the same day Robert Lacey’s book Battle of Brothers is released. The palace is anticipating the fallout against William, because Robert Lacey drags his reputation in the book. Remember the collective silence from the royal reporters avoiding to review the book? This is the monarchy’s damage control.

Expect more overhyped PR campaigns from the heirs as the world takes notice of Lacey’s bestseller book.

      • Kalana says:

Why is this silly woman wasting everyone’s time? Has she raised or donated a penny?

Is this about her temper tantrum over spending Christmas at Windsor, and furloughing staff even though the government topped up her funds?

Isn’t the UK public tired of being used to boost her public image? Your work props her up, not the other way around. She doesn’t do anything for you guys.

@2cents. Right. Both Betty and William out there using useful people to embiggen themselves. Maybe we’ll even see Angela Kelly. I hope Lacey’s book is everywhere and finally opens the floodgates to really scrutinizing Will.

And William is such a loser. Hiding behind his granny to avoid criticism? He is Andrew in training. Imagine how much money these grifters have wasted that could have gone towards something actually useful.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Kalana

The UK public is generally brain-washed to accept this woman as our God-sent Monarch. You could get assaulted for saying this in the wrong place. Literally.

Nevertheless, some of us are trying quite hard to de-program ourselves from the matrix called “the status quo” and I can assure you, it’s not easy.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

A lot of us are fed up of these spongers but unfortunately there are more people that like the status quo, they may not pay too much attention to these people but if you even suggest getting rid of them they are quickly offended and very defensive of the royals, it’s quite funny if it weren’t so sad. From birth we are drip fed that the queen and her lot are good for the UK, they are the most important, we should totally hand over a percentage of our hard earned cash to support them, the queen is everyone’s granny. Most love the queen more than their own mothers/grandmothers!

      • Tessa says:

She did the same thing with Andrew showing her support by being photographed with him. She is not nice to side with William I think she knows that he is petulant but she is throwing Harry under a bus because william is the HEIR

    • bluemoonhorse says:

I guess she thinks if Trump can survive it so can I. I rather doubt that considering her recent bout with pneumonia. But whatever lady, I’m sure Charles won’t share very many tears.

    • HeyJude says:

If you live as a fool you’ll die as a fool. That’s what it comes down to. And if that happens that’s all she’ll (and her stupid grandson) be remembered for in the history books.

Honestly, if I were Betty I’d be asking why my “dear sweet” grandson in line for my job is okay with his nonagenarian “crucial head of the country and church” (LOL) going maskless in a century’s worse pandemic? And all your supposed personal couturiers too?!

Seems like they’re all okay with giving her a push into the grave to benefit William for a silly little photo op. Why she participates in this IDK? She really must be totally deluded by the duty nonsense.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I would say “Darwinism” except she already has many descendants.

The dark side in me wonders whether she is senile and/or not properly briefed on what is going on in the world, and some people (I won’t name names) with ulterior motives convinced her to risk her life like this?

      • Tanguerita says:

Nah, not senile, just her usual clueless petty self-entitled self. These people spend their whole lives in a impenetrable bubble of “let them eat the cake” privilege. They don’t know better.

  2. Astrid says:

I suppose when you’re anointed by God to your position as Queen, why bother with a mask.

    • Seraphina says:

I was thinking maybe she doesn’t care if she goes to meet her maker. You know, the one who gave her the gift of divine right to rule over others – once her uncle abdicated.

    • SpankFD says:

What has God to do with it? How likely is it that the entire RF has been getting convalescent plasma injections (using blood product from COVID survivors) which is a long established tool to fight communicable diseases since cholera? How likely is it that Regeneron will “donate” medicine if any still falls ill with Covid-19?

Nevermind that using convalescent plasma as a prophylatic is ethically questionable when patients are dying from lack of hospital beds….

  3. ABritGuest says:

How would the press get great pics if they wear masks all the time?

They’ve just escalated restrictions in parts of the UK as well as covid cases rise exponentially. Seems irresponsible but I’m not surprised.

    • Lizzythe2 says:

@ABRITGUEST I was just hearing that yesterday how both in England and Germany things seem to be getting worse.

The queen and all royals need to set an example. This is irresponsible and I am in disbelief.

Merkle met with her leaders to put a plan in place. I guess the equivalent of our state governors. I just don’t understand the world.

  4. Sofia says:

I from the UK and I wish everyone would wear a face mask – even the royals. Yes I know the government has rules and all that and the royals are just supposed to be following exactly what the government says but again, I wish they would just wear the damn mask. Especially as one of them’s already had the virus and some of them are 70+

    • Rae says:

      Ditto @ Sofia

    • lemonylips says:

I’m totally with you @Sofia. I mean, this is probably the most incompetent government Brits have had in ages, with no clear guidelines, so wearing a royal mask should not be political in any way. Government isn’t doing anything but sending super confusing messages all the time. If anyone is unaware of how bad it is I recommend reading a weekintory thread on twitter.

      • Sofia says:

Especially as the royals aren’t the only ones who enter their own homes, their staff do and some of them (presumably) live in. If they want to risk their own lives, fine but they shouldn’t potentially bring the virus home and spread it to their staff members (who in turn might spread it to their family members or something) who might be wearing masks every time they go out in public (off duty).

      • lemonylips says:

on spot. I would say it’s irresponsible but that would be an understatement. It’s brutal – playing with people’s lives. Grosses me out trully.

    • Nic919 says:

The queen looks as stubborn as trump here and I doubt that’s what they want to project. It’s dumb and tests aren’t a guarantee of anything. Meanwhile the UK has to ramp up lockdown in various areas because this has been handled so poorly. It is so massively tone deaf to do this and shows the privilege she has over the peasants.

      • Kalana says:

She has the same petulant and grumpy expressions.

      • Mignionette says:

“The queen looks as stubborn as trump here and I doubt that’s what they want to project.”

^^^ This is exactly what they wanted to project. The message was very clear as amplified by the RR’s = “masks are not necessary”.

Masks have become a political statement and battleground. That battleground will be leveled out by the second wave which judging by past pandemics will be MUCH worse than the first wave we experienced in March….

  5. Jessica says:

This is an abdication of the “duty” they’re so fond of reminding us is so important to them. They are arrogant jerks and the UK has one of the highest coronavirus infection rates in the world.

    • BayTampaBay says:

@Jessica – 100% agree with you Betty and PWT are not leading by example. I would think that the most important part of being a working royal was leading by example.

    • FC says:

Only a trash human would ask others to isolate from their families for months and during holidays to protect her, then show them blatant disregard by not wearing a mask in public. Liz is looking more and more like Trump every day.

    • MaryContrary says:

      Exactly. It’s disgusting.

    • Nic919 says:

This is an excellent point. Modelling good behaviour by wearing a mask is their duty and they failed.

    • HeyJude says:

      Agreed.

This is why they welcomed Trump right into their palaces I now realize, why they follow him with refusing masks–they are exactly like him.

Just with aristocratic blood and real money.

Same tacky taste in furniture though. And same blood-sucking the tax-payer. Same racism. That too!

      • Tessa says:

Yesterday Chris Christie said he did wrong not wearing the mask since he got COVID and had to spend a week in intensive care Does not HM listen to news?

  6. CidyKitty(CidySmiley) says:

Were there people publicly there or just socially distanced photographers? What are the mask guidelines in the UK right now?

I know in the U.S. there are still mask mandates to go into stores or public places but now restaurants are opening and they ask you to wear a mask entering and exiting and then you take it off at your socially distanced table. On my bike ride I saw a group of people on a tour of the wetlands and the person leading the tour had no mask but was distanced but everyone on the tour had a mask on?? I’m very confused. I just wear mine all the time constantly lol

Still, even if this was a socially distanced event they should have both worn masks if for nothing else to support scientists and mandates saying that they support public health and for the health of their undoubtedly massive staff, who is at risk to keep them safe. Deeply irresponsible for the message they are sending.

  7. VS says:

Was this “event” really necessary anyway? it is not like she did something useful!

  8. Kittylouise says:

I totally agree – it may not be the mandate here in the UK to wear a mask outdoors but for the love of god WHY can’t the people in roles of influence and responsibility model this as a bare minimum?

It’s bad enough worried about this fucking awful, USELESS government we have, which seem to get more incompetent by the hour, it would be a tiny, minuscule crumb of comfort if the bloody so-called head of state actually behaved in a responsible way. Even if only for her own health’s sake as a woman in her 90s.

    • Moonmade says:

Yes! It’s been hard to muster up any positive feeling for her since Harry & Meghan left because they didn’t get enough support. It would go a long way if she ignored the macho posturing of the likes of Boris and Trump and did the considerate thing of wearing a mask and insisted her team do the same.
This issue is not about “stiff upper lip” and acting tough, we should wear masks to protect others. So why can’t the head of state demonstrate putting others first? It could be amazing PR that she cares about the people she comes into contact with?!

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

She still rides horses in her nineties- I suspect she has a macho streak of her own. (Although she wold think of it as being strong-willed, resolute, etc.) As for the masks- she likely believes that, because of her age especially, she would look fearful, and that would be a dereliction of duty to her. They consider it their responsibility to project a facade of confidence and calm always, so as not to worry the masses. In this case, of course, that’s possibly the worst thing they could do, and ‘the masses’ certainly should be worried, but these are the beliefs that drive this behavior.

  9. equality says:

At her age she should role model staying at home. Is there some reason Will couldn’t handle this alone or with somebody else? Supposedly cases are going up in the UK and other things are being shut down so the best option would have been to handle this over zoom and have a virtual tour.

    • Charfromdarock says:

      @equality, I agree.

The best thing she could do is to lead by example and as an older person stay physically isolated as much as possible.

Not gallivanting about and endangering her staff and the public.

  10. SusieQ says:

Even if she’s tested negative, that doesn’t mean she’s in the clear. People really need to stop thinking that a negative test means you don’t have Covid. You can have a negative test in the morning and have a positive one by afternoon.

  11. Becks1 says:

Also, what I don’t get is – if the Queen doesn’t want to wear a mask, why doesn’t she insist that everyone around her wear a mask?!!? The people around her – who presumably have not been in a bubble for the past few weeks, especially William – should 100% be wearing a mask to protect HER. I am really surprised her staff did not insist on that.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

She and her sycophants probably don’t have the intelligence between them to figure that out.

    • Merricat says:

How many times does it have to be said that wearing a mask helps protect others, not the wearer?

    • Nic919 says:

William isn’t in her circle and with his garden visits he could be exposing her to more people than they realize. He should have worn a mask to protect her at the very least. But this is the jackass who was joking about covid in March.

    • Mignionette says:

The whole mask thing is nonsense bc they could have put her in a clear visor and that would have ensured their photo ops.

This may sound far fetched but I feel part of this messaging was the controversy of not wearing the mask.

  12. Isa says:

Ugh thank you — wear a mask!! They’re all putting lives at risk, not just their own but those of everyone they later contact.

The science is very simple and straightforward on this.

  13. Amy Bee says:

I think at her age, if she’s not going to stay at home she should wear a mask.

  14. Elizabeth Regina says:

Seems like FFK is doing the most to be seen as a statesman/king in waiting. There was the big announcement, then the kids got wheeled out, then he attached himself to a famous natural historian, all not quite landing. Next came the TED talk where he wasn’t the head liner and then something else I can’t remember as it was that underwhelming. The point is his efforts produce very little results and this latest outing with his grandmother with both not wearing masks shows how much propping up he needs.

    • Beach Dreams says:

He really is doing a lot of posturing isn’t he? One basic lesson he’s already failed: true statesmen don’t mock the seriousness and impact of a pandemic. People on Twitter (not royal watchers) are already criticizing him and his grandmother for the lack of masks.

  15. starryfish29 says:

Her entire life is symbolic & yet she’s remarkably bad at sending public signals.

    • Molly says:

YES! I don’t know about the UK, but here in the US, masks are just a part of every day life. I wear one at work, my kids wear one at school, everyone wears them in stores, etc. It’s strange to see someone withOUT a mask at this point. Queens and kings around the world have been wearing them for months!
Was she too stubborn to wear one? Did she think it wasn’t necessary? We’re seven months into this mess, and neither the US nor the UK are out the other side. No science or health expert anywhere says masks are no longer needed or optional at this point.
For all the screaming about the optics of the royal family, this was such a mistake on her part. I can’t imagine why she did it.

      • Oddsnends says:

The US is such a diverse area, though. I rarely see children in masks and it’s still about 70% compliance in spaces where masks are required. Some of the places where masks aren’t required (at least there aren’t any signs about it) I may be one of a handful of masked people — so maybe 10% masked. My county has about 126, 000 people with 73 deaths attributed to covid19. It’s just not perceived as such a big deal here.

  16. tee says:

irresponsible exclusion of masks aside (did they also mandate that everyone else not wear a mask for optics?), why is her first public appearance in months at a weapons facility? surely, there are more pressing causes she should be lending her platform to rn.

  17. Exhausted says:

Were they there to donate money for covid relief or something? Lol, yeah righ. Just an elaborate photo op, nothing gained but money spent.

  18. Florence says:

Hopefully he stays away from his wife and mistress and the children for at least two weeks to protect them.

Presumably Petty and Peen will forgo contact with staff too for a fortnight, to protect them? We can but dream.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Don’t think he’ll have any issues distancing from the wife and kids since that’s business as usual. The mistress though…that might be asking too much of the passionate gardener 😂

    • The Duchess says:

@Florence – he’ll be back pruning the Rose bush as quick as a fly round $hit!

  19. Scal says:

There’s a bunch of people leading her tour-why are none of them wearing a mask? You are around a 94 year old woman!

Did TQ think if everyone wore a mask and she didn’t (because she didn’t want to) that it would look bad? This looks worse. Did they learn nothing from the WH super spreader event?

Also new research shows that wearing a mask can reduce your own viral load if you’re exposed. So you are protecting yourself and others.

  20. Katie says:

can I just confess that I’ve noticed the masks Korean celebs were donning in all those candid pics a while back, before covid, and I’d always think how fashionable and fly they looked with those masks (and they had really nicely designed ones, not the ugly ass bunched up ones most people are stuck wearing now) and I thought how nice it would be if this was a custom in the West and people would wear them on occasion. I am not sure if they wore them because they had a cold or did not want to be recognized or to protect from the dust or because they did not have makeup on or just had surgery, but it looked so cool. and I remember some bloggers also noting how cool it looked. and now we hate masks. go figure. I don’t feel cool wearing a mask cause mine is kinda ugly but I certainly don’t mind it, I don’t really notice it, I don’t know what people are talking about when they say masks are uncomfortable, they are cool

    • Alexandria says:

I don’t find masks cool, but I’m liking the anonymity and going make up-less.

Our new cases have reached single digits because masks are mandatory when we are outside. We can only take them off when food and drinks are served, and for vigorous exercise.

  21. Lizzie says:

I think of it like second hand smoke. Does it waft over to you if you are 6 feet way? Can you make an office smoke free if a few desks that are distanced away allow smoking.
I always wear my mask, no matter changing guidelines. It is currently our only protection. I really do not understand the thinking that the rf cannot wear a mask if it is not govt mandated. The govt never mandated flu shots or turning your head to cough or sneeze either.

  22. The Duchess says:

It’s only a matter of time before COVID comes creeping up. Have these idiots learned anything from the recent outbreak @ The White House, which infected over 30 attendees + even more staff? These people aren’t immune or exempt and they will have to learn the hard way. This engagement is totally unnecessary and is again playing into the PR wheel of Baldy & his ego woes. This engagement wouldn’t have been covered the same if it was just Baldy & his yes-men surrounding him. A total waste of time and a total disrespect to the thousands who have died from this dreadful virus.

  23. Kalana says:

I want the Windsors to choose between wearing a mask or only using the NHS. No private doctors, no special privileges. Their behavior is a way of demonstrating their privilege.

    • Amy Too says:

Just the fact that they get to have themselves and everyone they’ll be coming into contact with tested, whether they have symptoms or not, whether they’ve been around Covid or not, multiple times a week, probably for every engagement, shows their privilege. We have to jump through so many hoops to get tested and you might not get the results for weeks, but they’re being tested and getting their results rapidly, just so that they can go around doing their own PR events without having to bother with a mask. I also hate that everyone at the White House and Trump get to be tested every single day so that they can “justify” running around maskless like idiots. And it still doesn’t protect them! Half the White House has Covid right now because they thought that because they were being tested every day they could just disregard all the guidelines of every state they travelled into. No masks, no social distancing, huge indoor gatherings that ignore any orders or guidelines about the number of people who are allowed to gather.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I don’t know how easy it is to get a test in the UK but it is very easy to get one where I live (Denmark). You just have to schedule it.

      • February-Pisces says:

@arthistorian I live in the uk and have not been tested, but from what I can gather you either have to line up on foot, or you can do a drive thru test in your car. People only go if they think they have been exposed. I think these royals will have their own designated testing team, who will probably test them weekly, as well as staff and everyone they meet at appearances, to ensure they do not come into contact with anyone. So I guess it’s ok for them to wander around maskless, but it really does set a bad example. They really should wear them to encourage others to wear them too.

No one else has the privilege of ensuring everyone around them is Covid-19 free, and they expect people to continue as normal, when they can’t even do the same.

  24. Kimber says:

So there’s William…. just wondering where Charles has been? I live in the states so I might have missed his work. It just seems like he’s been MIA.

    • equality says:

Charles and Camilla have been posting all kinds of activities on social media. I find it amusing that Charles is launching a series of films about potential climate solutions that ALREADY exist. To me that seems more effective action than Will’s prize. I agree with the Gates Foundation; the technology already exists. Implementation is what is needed. If someone could get governments to adopt practices it would be the most helpful.

    • Becks1 says:

Charles and Camila haven’t done anything in a day or two but even with the restrictions Charles has been fairly busy (two days ago Camilla visited a boxing club and a horse club, 3 days ago Charles visited a royal garrison, etc.)

I did just look at their IG and I’m laughing bc they have the video of William promoting earthshot, and everytime he says “its the most prestigious environmental prize there is” I’m like….SAYS WHO?!?!? lol

  25. Alexandria says:

She doesn’t care. Why should you? Oh that’s right, if she gets sick she gets the best care your money buys.

  26. Julia K. says:

I believe Charles is growing weary of the”king and queen in waiting” publicity , referring to will and kate. Is this photo op reinforcing that idea? Could be just scheduling or a subtle message from the queen?

  27. CoKatie says:

Why, WHY in freaking October, after so many deaths and so much scientific evidence, are people not just accepting that YOU HAVE TO WEAR A MASK PERIOD?!? Why the debate?! Why the stupidity? Why the denial?! Just care about someone other than yourself. Be respectful and responsible. Wear a mask. They are going to be on our faces until at LEAST mid 2021. They should be a part of everyone’s life and daily routine. How is not wearing a mask still a thing?! It’s just simple common sense. Not a political statement. Our collective global health and safety has been hijacked by a few complete public idiots.

    • BnLurkN4eva says:

Exactly especially your very last point.

    • Anna says:

Agreed. I just can’t understand it. When I go out for my weekly early morning grocery run, I’m amazed at the number of people who aren’t wearing masks, including in my building and folks across the hall who don’t even bother to try. I almost start to think I must be missing something…? Maybe all these people know something I don’t? I’m being too cautious? And the “half-mask” folks who wear it around their chin or even at the pharmacy the attendants not covering their noses–like, for what? What is that, even? I just don’t understand why people won’t wear masks when it’s how you protect others and yourself. Maybe it’s the “others” part of the equation: people just dgaf and perhaps even *want* to infect others, like a kind of catastrophe-thinking, if I’m going down, I’m taking everyone with me…? (sigh)

  28. RoyalBlue says:

Continuing on with the future of the monarchy theme in 2020 we present to you PWT and Petty Betty in rose. (hehe, I said rose).

Their future is secure as their subjects, though many are about to be furloughed, are not yet revolting in the streets, so carry on with the pomp and circumstance royals. carry on.

  29. Valiantly Varnished says:

The thing is: cases are on the RISE again in the UK. New restrictions have been put in place and masks are still requires to shop in stores or when you’re indoors. So the idea that the UK has “different rules” as an argument is silly IMO. And the Queen is supposed to be a figurehead for the UK. As are Willbur, Cathy, and the rest. Kate has been photographed NUMEROUS times at indoor events without a mask. They are no better than the Trumps. They think that Covid doesnt apply to them.

  30. Aa says:

Here’s a thought that if Harry and Meghan were still working Royals then they would likely have chosen to wear masks to set an example because there are things they consider morally right that they were willing to go against the system for? Imagine the mess that would have been? Courtiers upset because the rest of the family is doing whatever Boris Johnson wants and it would make the rest of the family look bad on the the global stage, while also pissing off the Tory government because Harry and Meghan weren’t downplaying the virus. All the media attacking Harry and Meghan for being cowards for wearing masks or whatever. While Britain could use people in authority stepping up and setting an example of wearing masks they really did the right thing for themsleves by leaving.

    • Anna says:

Harry and Meghan saved their own lives and their baby’s in so many, many ways. If only leaving just to get into a safe place away from this madness, it was worth it all.

  31. Nyro says:

So all those people had to get tested just so she could walk around without a mask and push Tory civic propaganda. How Trump-esque. The woman is an as$hole! What a truly awful and selfish person she is. Wtf does she think she is? At least Trump is POTUS. if she dies tomorrow, it’s of no consequence to anyone outside of her family. And yet everyone is expected to be inconvenienced and subjected to testing just so she can walk around without a mask. Smh

    • Tourmaline says:

I can’t believe now the British royals are trying on this “no precautions for us please, we’ve been tested” BS. You’d think someone would take a clue from the Trump White House disaster on that subject.

      • Nyro says:

God forbid if she keeps this up and ends up getting covid, they’ll end up finding some kind of way to blame Meghan of course.

  32. Lizzie says:

Keep Stupid and Carry On. There is nothing calm about ignoring infectious disease experts.

  33. Coco says:

And she’s refusing to wear a mask to a laboratory?! I remember when Trump went to a cotton swab factory and they had to throw out the day’s product because he contaminated it? She is spitting in the face, possibly literally, of the scientists who work at this facility.

  34. Watson says:

Umm. Is someone in the palace trying to get the Queen killed? Jesus.

Whomever is advising the Queen needs to be fired. This is negligence, and putting her in the line of fire of a pandemic. Terrible decision making skills on all fronts.

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I mean…a funeral would end any and all criticism of the royal family for 6 months while they mourn and is the best PR they could hope for where everyone remembers their lovely Queen of 69 years.

To answer your question, the person to blame is probably standing right next to her.

  35. Zaya says:

I bet Brenda missed the fawning crowds just like the dotard and his rallies.

And since she leads by example, that means that people shouldn’t be wearing masks right? Even though there’s a second lockdown, everything is peachy keen. Don’t look too closely. Keep calm and COVID on.

  36. Julia K. says:

Queen Elizabeth was raised to put duty and country first, to the detriment of her own children and their children and so on. I admire her and also feel incredibly sad for her. I wonder if she has regrets.

  37. Tursitops says:

Some elderly people can be astonishingly selfish because they no longer care whether they live or die. This is why some insist on driving well past the point at which they are competent to do so. Maybe she’s playing chicken with Covid.

  39. February-Pisces says:

It infuriates me when I see people not wearing a mask in public. Fortunately I see more people wearing them than not, and those who are maskless do tend to get dirty looks from onlookers. No mask equals no respect for others. Simples.

  40. Josie Bean says:

Cases are starting to climb in England – how dare they make a public appearance without masks. As someone who generally tolerated Royalty (ie didn’t really pay much attention to them), in the past year they have disgusted me.

  41. Marni112 says:

I am very surprized the Queen would make this serious a mistake step however, the comments here are a wee bit over the top.Anyone who has worked with the Queen has acknowledged how hard she works and how seriously she takes her role.. so calling her petty, a narcissist, etc really isn’t factual .
