Chelsy Davy & Cressida Bonas both ran away from royal life after watching Kate

B7303_200711_06_202558_0017

In January, just days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their “Sussexit” from the royal family, one of Cressida Bonas’ friends/defenders tweeted: “I wish Cressida had said yes.” While I absolutely thought that comment was tacky as hell, I also wondered if Harry did propose to Cressida at some point in their two-year relationship. We know Harry falls hard and fast. We know (from his own interviews over the years) he had been searching for someone willing to take on a public role. We also know that Harry had two major relationships before he met Meghan: Cressida and Chelsy Davy. I suspect he did propose to both of them at various times. Well, in Robert Lacey’s Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, this issue is apparently explored a bit further. Lacey says that Cressida and Chelsy both bailed on Harry once they got a good look at what “Harry’s wife” would have to deal with.

Before marrying Meghan, Harry saw two of his serious relationships fail because the women he loved didn’t want to take on the life of a princess. Both Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas decided the royal spotlight wasn’t for them after watching the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s relationship develop.

Lacey claims it was Kate and William’s wedding which was the final straw for Chelsy, telling a friend she could never make the sacrifices Kate had.

And it was the Cambridge family’s tour of Australia that gave Cressida an insight in her potential future. Watching Kate and Prince George stepping off the plane and facing the world’s media reportedly left the actress “completely spooked” and she told Harry she didn’t want to have that life with her children.

[From The Daily Mirror]

See, I would take it more as a challenge, but I’m saying that as a royal-watcher. I would have looked at what Kate was doing and said “I can do that better.” Which is what I assume Meghan thought too – she saw the limited role Kate had carved out and thought “what a waste of a huge platform, I can do it better.” Cressida and Chelsy didn’t feel the same. Which, honestly, shows a surprising amount of maturity for both of them. With Chelsy, it was this long-winded on-and-off first-love situation and yeah, she ended up going to William and Kate’s wedding and then she and Harry were over soon after. It would make sense that she felt like sh-t was getting real and she wanted no part of it. But I’ll go back to my first question: did Harry actually propose to both women? We might never know.

  1. Becks1 says:

I don’t see how Cressida wouldn’t have realized what her life would be like until she saw Kate step off the plane in Australia. She’s a British aristocrat (or artisto-adjacent), and she’s friends with other royals. Did she miss…….everything else? Kate presenting the baby on the steps of the Lindo Wing, their wedding, their Canada tour, just….everything else? Maybe it just means that was the moment when it all clicked for her, but if so, then she really was incredibly naïve and insulated.

For Chelsey, I can see the wedding of William and Kate being the eye opening moment, before that being with Harry was probably a lot of fun, but I CAN see for her that being the moment of “it stops being fun at some point and becomes duty” and not wanting that.

I don’t think Harry proposed to either, but I imagine marriage was discussed loosely.

    • Sofia says:

Yeah agreed. Cressida is an aristo so she’s aware of what life as a royal would be like. William was interested in her half-sister so she’s been around the royals (well her family has) even before dating Harry. And dare I say, his and Cressida’s relationship seemed like a “alright let me date her and see what happens but meh”. I think if he proposed to any of them, I would say it would be Chelsy over Cressida

      • mynameispearl says:

According to the book Cressida also confided to friends that she thought Harry was damaged and self obsessed, so it wasn’t just the Royal life she didnt want. To be honest the little wedding she had with some other posh Harry (who is actually quite good looking) looked pretty idyllic. She did the right thing.

      • Ginger says:

@Mynameispearl. Of course he was damaged. He would be the first to tell you that. He dated her before he sought help. I hate that she was gossiping about that. Thats awful. She slammed him hard in the press after they broke up.

      • BabsORIG says:

@mynameispearl, and yet, Cressida took Harry back ofttimes after their numerous breakups and makeups; she still gladly took him back and was happy to be seen with him in public.
Look, this “they dumped Harry due to spotlight” blah blah blah is all utter nonsense from their shippers IMO. Both women dated Harry for YEARS, not for just a few months, they dated him for years. And on not even one single day was any of the scrutinizing media cameras switched off, they were constantly on. These relationships were conducted in the most public media spotlights for everyone to see. Multiple times, the women or their adjacents would tip off the paps as to where they would be with Harry, yet not break up with him after said tip offs. Every time they broke up and made up was really public, and yet they would still go back to Harry or vice versa. It probably makes these women feel good about themselves saying they dumped Harry because they wanted no part of royal life..shrugs..power to them. But since we live in a society/culture where in a heterosexual relationships 99.9% of the time MEN PROPOSE, and if there is no proof or evidence of Harry ever proposing to any of Cressida Bonas or Chelsy Davy (which receipts I’m sure they’d gladly produce if they had any) then it says just one thing: that Harry never proposed to any of them because he was not ready to get married when either woman dated him (or even he didn’t want to marry any of them), period and end of story.

      • Margles says:

People change as time passes and they reach maturity. The fawning crowds and glamour might look like a lot of fun at first, but look different as you begin to grow up and seriously think about kids.

      • Tessa says:

Cressida’s father is not an aristo but her mother is so she did not have a title.

    • Nic919 says:

I highly doubt he proposed to Cressida. That relationship never even got as serious as the one with Chelsy. Cressida had media people push that one a lot further. He probably never proposed to Chelsy but they are more likely to have had discussions in that direction.

And what they aren’t saying is that the sacrifices Kate made related to losing self respect and accepting infidelity. Few women think so little of themselves to accept an ongoing cheater for the sake of a title.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

There are unfortunately too many women who would accept such sacrifices in exchange for a title etc. Until we live in a more just and equal world this will continue to be the case. I don’t judge women for choosing these relationships because I don’t know what circumstances in their lives brought them to that place. My problem with Kate is not that she waited around and ultimately put up with whatever to have the life she chose, it’s because she is complicit in the treatment Meghan endured while a working royal. She has shown herself to be truly vicious and I can’t root for her because of that.

    • HeyJude says:

She said she didn’t like that because she didn’t want that for her kids. I can see why that moment finally struck her attention.

The still very young toddler George was made to travel around the world to be presented almost Lion King style at the top of the tarmac stairs to the world and cameras. Trotting the little lad out to all that and then that boring diplomatic welcome drudgery. During which George very famously did not look very happy with the whole scene and became understandable cranky. I didn’t like the looks of such a scenario for a small child and I don’t them from Adam.

I can see why that would be a wake cup call to her that she didn’t want to repeat these scenes.

      • Anance says:

“presented almost Lion King style at the top of the tarmac stairs to the world and cameras”

        Funny – LOL

    • Dawn says:

Cressida wanted the job and her family wanted her to have the job. Two people disagreed….Harry and Kate. Harry was a kid when he dated Chelsea. Also the media wants the world to believe that two white women rejected Harry so he settled for the Black girl

    • notasugarhere says:

Chelsey was attacked from the beginning. Chased down dead end alleys by paps, harassed, obscenities screamed at her, photographed through the windows of her Uni classes. She had absolutely no protections, while Kate secretly (and illegally) had Met police protection for years before the engagement announcement. Chelsey experienced what it would be like and stayed with Harry for years anyway. I agree with Dawn – Cressida wanted the job, Harry didn’t want to marry her.

    • PrincessK says:

Chelsey wasn’t that discreet either about the royals. Her father’s connection to Robert Mugabe was deemed to be problematic and she probably didn’t want her parents lives scrutinised and openly dissected in the tabloids leading to who knows what. Also l think Harry wanted someone with a sense of purpose and duty. He was the one who suggested she did law….but as we can see her father’s money means she can do what she wants.

Harry was clearly never in love with Cressida, and Cressida was just trying her luck, l don’t think they had anything much in common. But he definitely had a strong bond with Chelsey, who looked very emotional at his wedding, whereas Cressida clearly didn’t give a toss.

  2. AndaPanda says:

Meghan was a better choice. There, I said it!

  3. Noki says:

Harry and Cressidas relationship seemed so bland, dare i say he seemed bored with her, unless he was just planning to ‘settle’ I dont buy he actually proposed marriage to her.Him and Chelsy had obvious passion young love and all the hormones that go with it lol.

    • Becks1 says:

I always got the vibe he went out with Cressida as a favor – either to the York princesses, or to the courtiers who were pushing him to marry a nice (white) English girl – just to kind of say, see I tried it. I think he ended up liking her well enough, but there wasn’t a lot of passion or anything there.

      • Mignionette says:

I think Cressida dated him to boost her career.

      • manda says:

@ Mignionette — and did it get her anywhere? I’ve seen her in one thing (Dr. Thorne, it’s on Prime!) and she did not dazzle

      • Becks1 says:

@manda I don’t think it really got her anywhere but it did boost her name recognition, especially here in the states(I would not say she’s “well known” here but she’s more known than she would be had she not dated Harry, you know?)

      • manda says:

@Becks1 Yeah, I think you’re right about that. I for sure didn’t recognize her face, but I did recognize the name and had to go back and rewatch some of her scenes.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

Cressida is the Tory dumb blonde his brother and courtiers wanted him to marry. Chelsy was quite intelligent and they had a young love thing going on. I believe Chelsy might have walked away and he probably did propose to her unofficially, but why she had a face like thunder on H and M’s wedding day baffles me. Cressida’s family background is as dysfunctional as they come and she also seemed to run to the press far too often for my liking.

      • PrincessK says:

I think the York sisters did it to spook Kate. William had the hots for Cressida’s sister, who would be the Duchess of Cambridge today if she had agreed to play ball.

    • equality says:

Some excerpts from the book say that Cressida thought Harry was “damaged” and had a neurosis about the media. That’s in line with what Harry himself has said. It’s sad that his family wasn’t more supportive in helping him with the media. That’s what a caring family would have done.

    • Ginger says:

He wouldn’t even buy her a plane ticket so I doubt he bought her a ring. He was very young when he was with Chelsy, so I doubt he ever proposed to her. Chelsy even said he only brought it up when he was really drunk, so we have to take her word for it.

Cressida slammed Harry in the press after they broke up. She said he was cheap cause he never bought her anything.

Both said they didn’t want the royal life but love to court the press when it suits them. They were both with Harry for years. They had to know on some level what it would be like.

      • equality says:

Did she ever buy him anything? Is there some reason he should have bought her things? Buying women things without a commitment might have been something he was reluctant to do because the media would have made it a big deal.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

What kind of stuff was she expecting? Harry obviously gave Meghan stuff. They had matching bracelets they got in Africa and remember that story about how he gave her a necklace with their initials and she got flack for wearing it.

      • PrincessK says:

Cressida also said that Harry had not read many books. Cressida worked in the theatre.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I agree I don’t think his relationship with Cressida was all she is fronting it was, i can buy he would have married Chelsy.

      • Nic919 says:

I think it’s Camilla Tominey who has some connection to Cressida’s mother and I suspect that Cressida used the media to boost her profile when she was with Harry because he never seemed as into her as he did with Chelsy.

  4. Mac says:

I don’t blame them. Living within the confines of royal life is my idea of hell.

  5. Mignionette says:

Young Chelsy was a cutie. I can see why Harry liked her. Apparently Chelsy and Harry used to have bust ups and screaming matches in front of the paps whenever Bill and Katie needed cover for something.

That is why I don’t totally believe any of this.

Chelsy didn’t make the cut bc her dad is a despot very closely affiliated to the Mugabe Govt and corruption in South Africa.

    • Noki says:

Chelsy has done something to her face, recent pics of hers show her nose looking very different and not in a food way.

    • minx says:

Harry and Chelsy were a cute couple. They seemed like they had juice between them and had fun until they decided to move on.

    • Nic919 says:

I also think Chelsy did not want to play the empty robot like Kate. And she was already getting slammed in the tabloids more than Kate, despite getting a law degree and becoming a solicitor for a bit. She knew that anyone who married Harry would be unfairly compared to Kate because the press was already putting Kate on a pedestal despite her lack of work ethic and charitable endeavours throughout her entire 20s.

  6. Snuffles says:

I don’t think Harry ever proposed but I’m sure the topic was broached as in “can you see yourself in this life and carving a role for yourself?”

I don’t blame either girl for dipping. I think Chelsy loved Harry but hated The Firm. She seemed awfully pensive at the wedding. Cressida on the other hand was in good spirits and didn’t seem to have any lingering feelings.

    • Myra says:

We would have heard about the rings if it were true, wouldn’t we? Stories of how the proposals supposedly went and Harry being heartbroken twice after a second rejection. So it’s more likely they never got that far but sure I can see them discussing the kind of life it would entail if the girls were to officially join the Firm.

      • BabsORIG says:

This is where I am at too. Both women would have produced “receipts” if there was any evidence or proof of a proposal, verbal or otherwise. But NEVER has any of Chelsy or Cressida ever said Harry proposed and I turned him down, they just say they broke up with his because of the media spotlight; that tells me Harry never proposed to any of them. Also, said spotlight was always on during their years of a relationship, so what exactly could have changed for them to no longer be able to handle the spotlight? Doesn’t make sense. Discuss marriage? Maybe, huge MAYBE, with Chelsy. But again Harry and Chelsy were very young when they dated. And at that point, not even the heir was married so Harry was not going to marry anyone at 20something, no way. And didn’t they split up soon after the Cambs wedding? Maybe it was Harry that freaked after the courtiers started with their “Harry you are up next now that Wills’ been hitched” and broke everything off just to show he was not ready??.

      • Ginger says:

@Babsorig. Chelsy even said he only brought up marriage when he was really drunk. Harry isn’t going to remember saying that so all we have is Chelsy’s word. After W&K got married , Harry did an event with veterans and they asked him when he would get married and he said not for a very long time.

Three don’t want to admit that a blood prince picked a biracial American first.

  7. Aurora says:

I think the difference is that neither Cressida nor Chelsea are as philanthrophic as Meghan. They seem to be idle rich girls who pursue hobbies more than world change. Meghan saw the bigger picture of having a platform to make change. I also think Meghan genuinely fell head over heels for Harry so was willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

    • Ash says:

That’s more than a bit unfair to Chelsy in particular. She has a Master’s degree in Law and then worked for a while for one of the biggest law firms in London. Sure, she’s now dropped that in favor of her own business, but that certainly doesn’t mean she’s only an “idle rich girl”.

      • Nic919 says:

I am of two minds with Chelsy. When compared to practising lawyers, Chelsy certainly did the rich girl thing by quitting her position as a solicitor after a year because most people who become lawyers tend to have to work in that field more than a few years to be able to afford to change positions.

However, compared to Kate, Chelsy did far more and was far more educated than Kate with her basic undergraduate degree. She did more than vacation with Harry and she did hold down what most people consider a normal job and not a bespoke “make yourself available for William’s whims” position.

      • Redgrl says:

@nic919 – was going to say the same thing. She did get a law degree but stopped practising fairly quickly and got a “rich girl job”…but I think she donates at least part of her jewelry income to charity which is commendable. In fairness also, not everyone wants to be a lawyer once the reality kicks in…

      • PrincessK says:

What does Chelsey do? She is a trust fund kid.

    • Alexandria says:

Yes and nothing wrong with that. Cressida and Chelsy have their own interests and rightfully decided this wasn’t the role they would be happy in nor excel in. Chelsy also pursued law, she had her own life. At least that shows maturity on their part instead of being a doormat. Meghan has proven interest in philanthropy and championing hunger issues and feminism. It was a perfect fit for her. She fulfilled the job description but too bad the BRF and royal staff are idiots. Meghan saw the platform she could have.

I’m happy for Harry. It doesn’t matter if he proposed to the two ladies or not, it’s part of his life journey and I’m sure he cherished the times he had with them and the friendship, but his focus now is on his family. Unfortunately only William is the perfect family man and Harry is chastised for it.

      • Beth says:

@alexandria I agree with all you said, such a nice measured comment!

We can all agree that Meghan is the love of Harry’s life and far more suitable for her role without trashing anyone else.

      • sunnyn says:

@alexandria that is a lovely response. I think Harry very clearly love Chelsea and had a good relationship with Cressida but ultimately those women didn’t share his goals and values.

Ultimately he found a partner who both adored him and did share his values and felt willing to step into this life to build a partnership with him.

Anyway all our relationships teach us something, if only what we don’t want. I am reminded of the Feist line from the song Let It Die(about the end of a relationship), “Now I know what I don’t want. I learned that with you.”

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

I like Fitzgerald’s, ‘There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice.’

Agree that Harry and Chelsy seemed to have a genuine love for each other, it just wasn’t strong enough. Glad it never worked out with Cressida- she always irritated me, probably because their relationship came off as so hollow.

    • Meg says:

Isnt chelsy designing jewelry to sell with profits going to charity now?

    • Snowbunny says:

Hot take, but I don’t find philanthropy particularly noble — it’s a “job” for rich people to make themselves feel useful and look good, often while their politics contribute to some of the reasons why philanthropy is needed.

I say this as someone who really values direct, discreet contributions to those in need, as well as overhauling entire class systems that contribute to massive wealth disparity. Basically I think it’s fine that Chelsy and Cressida do law, acting, and jewelry designing. Who knows what they contribute personally to causes they care about. Someone here said Chelsy donates profits from her jewelry-making to charities — that’s a lot less dodgy to me than if she just donated her trust fund proceeds from her dad’s dubious dealings.

  8. A says:

In Finding Freedom they said that Harry and Chelsea had rekindled for a while just before he met Meghan. Maybe in her mind she was the one and he would always come back to her? This might explain the wedding face expression! Also, it must hurt that he wouldn’t give up the RF for her, if that was indeed the sole reason she didn’t accept the proposal.

    • Alexandria says:

Nah Chelsy has the same BRF as I do. I don’t think we should read much into her expression which could be 1 out of 1000 clicks.

      • Seraphina says:

I agree. Who knows what that face was for???? A memory of them together or maybe her shoes hurt at the moment. I think we need to keep in mind that point, one pic out of hundreds and they choose the one to tell their story.

      • Snuffles says:

FYI – It wasn’t one picture. I saw the live stream and the camera was on her for a good 30 seconds with that face before she eventually changed her expression. Even the news hosts commented on it.

      • Alexandria says:

        *RBF

      • Sid says:

It wasn’t a bitchy face at all. It was more pensive and a little sad. On top of that, the lovey dovey paparazzi set up she did with her boyfriend days after the wedding would suggest that she knew how she came off at the wedding and was trying to neutralize that.

And to be honest, the fact that she was allowing people to leave nasty comments about Meghan on her SM account while at the same time deleting the comments by people who were trying to defend Meghan against the nasty ones says a whole lot.

    • Seraphina says:

@Snuffles, I am giving her the benefit of the doubt because I have sat through weddings and baptisms and church services and my mind wonders. Thoughts are triggered by whom is seen around you as well. So who knows. Maybe she was thinking: Dear Lord, that could have been me up there.

      • Oh says:

She was deleting the comments that defending Meghan on her Instagram and she did not delete the hateful comments about Meghan. she is bitter because Harry did not marry her.

      • Seraphina says:

@Oh, OH! (HAHAH) I was unaware of that. That tends to change the narrative all together.

      • Ginger says:

Oh yes, I remember that. That was at Euegenies wedding. That was awful

      • Andrea says:

You’d be pissed too if you were trying to make it work and maybe he was overpromising all for Meghan to show up.

  9. JT says:

I don’t believe he proposed to either woman. He and Chelsy were very young and had a tumultuous relationship and he just seemed plain bored with Cressida. Harry was with Chelsy for seven years, if he wanted to marry her I think he would have and there was never any indication that she turned down a proposal. Harry may fall hard but he seems very sure in his decision making; with Meghan he knew right away (which isn’t a knock on Chelsy as there were many factors at play.) It seems that the press just want to make it seem like Harry proposes to every woman he meets.

    • Snuffles says:

It’s possible the appeal of Chelsy was that she’s from Africa and maybe Harry entertained the notion of running away to live in Africa with her at some point. It just didn’t work out.

      • MissMarierose says:

        I’ve thought that as well.
If Harry’s plan/desire was always to escape the BRF, then Chelsy’s roots in Africa would have been very tempting.
It would also explain why he was never really serious with Cressida. There would be no escaping if his wife was from the British aristocracy.

  10. tolly says:

Again, Lacey is leaving the British tabloids out of the conversation. The real risk of being Harry’s wife was being thrown to the wolves every time the family needed a scapegoat. He has turned out to be a more mature and caring husband than most people (including his family) would have guessed, but I can see why these women balked.

    • Alexandria says:

Agreed. Whoever Harry married would be the new Fergie because the press needs that. Meghan got it worst because of racism and classicism.

I still don’t understand why the BRF work with tabloids.

    • Nic919 says:

The twitterati located comments on CB in 2016 before Meghan was known to be his girlfriend and essentially the commenters knew that Harry’s wife, whoever she was, would have to deal with more crap from the tabloids and competition from Kate and Carole who would slam them in the tabloids. And based on how Chelsy and Cressida were criticized and shown as drunk far more than Kate, despite being more gainfully employed than she ever was, it wasn’t too hard to see where the wind was blowing. What no one expected was someone as accomplished as Meghan and just how crazy it would get.

  11. S808 says:

I don’t think either ever got a proposal. I still haven’t forgotten one of those hag RRs begging Harry to take Cressida back in some article. Him and Chelsy’s relationship seemed too unstable and they were both young. I don’t think he would’ve been happy in the long run with either of them which is probably what the palace and the press wanted (I haven’t forgotten Penis Morgan fantasizing about Harry divorcing Meghan and marrying “some dim blonde aristo”). Him and Chelsy were explosive and made W&K look tame and responsible in comparison. Him and Cressida are boring and would’ve posed no threat to W&K, Kate especially.

    • Rebecca says:

That old hag is friends with Cressida’s mother. IF there had been a proposal and rejection of said proposal, I seriously doubt that particular old hag would frame it as Harry dumping Cressida and needing to “take her back”.

It also squashes the rumor that she dumped him.

  12. Seraphina says:

Who knows what these two women really know and what they saw. Dating Harry obviously have them better insight on all the family drama. I agree with Becks that the moments mentioned in the article were the straws that broke them.

  13. TheAnonymousPimpernel says:

Lies! Cressida never missed a beat bringing up Harry. We saw Chelsy’s face at the wedding and her antics afterward. Both would have married Harry if he asked. This rewrite makes their fellow white women feel better knowing a biracial black woman would never be willingly chosen over them.

  14. tee says:

It must have been very hard to seriously date people, given the positions they (Harry & Will) were in. Tbh, I think they both chose well for what they wanted and expected out of life. And proposals or not, I think Chelsy and Cressida made the right choices in not continuing to pursue Harry.

  15. Amy Bee says:

Has this book had any real revelations? It seems that it just repeated long known tabloid stories. Cressida was definitely dumped because Ingrid Seward begged Harry to take her back in an magazine editorial. I can believe that Chelsey got the vibes from the family that she would not be accepted and broke it off. But I don’t believe Harry proposed to either of them.

  16. TeamMeg says:

TAG ALERT!! Inside seam of Cressida’s sheer black top. Looks like she forgot to cut the tags out lol.

  17. Oh says:

What a nonsense! Do you want to convince me that Chelsy, who dated Harry 7 years and who was so bitter at Harry’s wedding, she did not want to marry him?? If she did not want to marry him why did she date Harry for 7 years? The press was always mocking her at the time and yet she continued to date him. and Cressida, whose her friends always talk about her relationship with Harry, and we do not forget that she put shady post on her Instagram after Harry’s engagement, Do you want to convince me that she did not want to marry Harry? They are liars lol. They all wanted to marry Harry, but I’m sure Harry didn’t ask them to marry him. They might now feel comfortable that they had not married Harry after they saw what happened to Meghan, but at the time I’m sure both of them wanted to marry Harry

  18. OriginalLala says:

Some of these comments, wow. We can agree that Meghan and Harry are a great love match without trashing and disparaging his former partners/relationships.

    • Jaded says:

Thank you. I was about to post the same thing but you said it best.

    • Ebony Rising says:

Considering the fact that Chelsy was liking the hateful and racist comments made about Meghan, a woman she didn’t know and never did anything to her, on her Instagram and deleting any comments defending Meghan (like why the hell were any of them even discussing Meghan to begin with? This was after Eugenie’s wedding. That had nothing to do with Meghan), I think Chelsy deserves any and all negative comments anyone wants to throw at her ugly racist ass!

      • Jaded says:

I’ve never seen anything about Chelsy liking racist remarks about Meghan or that she’s an ugly racist herself. Show the receipts if you wish to be taken seriously. The only thing she said publicly was that she didn’t want to comment on Harry and Meghan’s relationship to the press and that’s fair. I wouldn’t either. I think it’s you who sinking to the levels of the worst trolls.

  19. Kimber says:

If Harry had married Cressida they would have ended up in a Cambridge like marriage. Friends- but no love. It would have been so sad.

  20. February-Pisces says:

I hate the presumption that aristo girls don’t want to be royal because they don’t want public life when we can see that they would do anything for a bit of fame. Look at Cressida, Chelsy, kitty Spencer, Amelia Windsor etc they all turn up to the opening of an envelope to get their pics taken, they have either secured the bag in the form of a rich or aristocratic husband, or at least still looking. They are basically the same as any other Instagram girl.

Cressida and chelsy never married him, most likely cos they were never asked. Chelsy went from GF status to casual bit on the side. I’m sure he was still hooking up with her right up until he met Meghan. I think he did love chelsy, but massively outgrew her, but I think she is still clinging onto the idea of one day being with him.

And I’ve heard all about Cressida and how desperate she is to be famous. Apparently she wouldn’t talk to anyone at school who couldn’t help her up the social ladder, and her ex dumped her because she was so thirsty. I think Cressidas family did campaign hard for her to land the converted role of Harry’s wife, but not with much success. She was basically a ‘kate’ to him, always there following him around and eager to please. If no one else came along, he might of settled.

  21. Rebecca says:

I do not understand how Cressida’s pal could wish for an answer to a question that was never asked.

  22. Jenn says:

Lacey write fantasy. If Cressida turned down Harry why did Ingrid Seward beg Harry to take her back. And Seward is reportedly her mother’s friend so she would know.

  23. Sara says:

    *Insert Lucille Bluth gif*
    Good for her!

  24. Lizzie says:

I wonder how many times they were on the receiving end of Williams rage. I think this would have more of a negative impact that Kates royal life. They dated Harry because they wanted royal life but he was very close to William at the time. Harry dumped William for Meghan because he is not going to let his brother scream at his wife.

  25. Ginger says:

The press have been putting out that they wanted Harry to marry a blonde English rose. They don’t want to admit that a Prince wanted a bi racial American so they are making Meghan to be his last choice. When you see how Harry is with Meghan, he has never been like that with anyone else and it kills them.

  26. Vanessa says:

I don’t think Harry Wanted to married either one I do believe that the press has been obsessed with reporting that Harry wanted to married one of his blonde ex’s . To make it seem like Meghan was the last choose I think it’s very disrespectful there trying to make Harry and Meghan into Kate and William 2.0

  27. Valiantly Varnished says:

I think he may have proposed to Chelsy but not Cressida.

  28. Katie says:

Aren’t they both from wealthy backgrounds? If yes, then that’s your answer – why would they bother having to answer to anybody when they could either do nothing or work on their own terms on their own projects

  29. Maida says:

Honestly I can’t blame anyone who looked at the BRF and said “nope” to being part of it. The attacks on Meghan just made more immediately visible the toxic dynamics at work for a long time.

  30. Amber says:

I believe he proposed to Chelsy and she turned him down. I don’t know why I think that but it may have been in a Vanity Fair article from about ten years ago. She was The One That Got Away for Harry.
I also think that people disparaging Chelsy and Cressida for being fame-hungry are misunderstanding. Lots of aristo women chase fame, but becoming ‘royal’ is a different kind of fame. It means losing the right to be politically outspoken, wear black nail polish, have a personality, etc etc….plus people would indeed scrutinize your children way more because they are in line to the throne. If little George had super-long hair and preferred to dress in a non-traditional way, and Kate let him make that choice, people would go freaking nuts about it. Even the little kids have to conform to old-school expectations in this family. (And yes they all have ridiculous wealth and privilege; I’m not saying their lives are difficult but their lives are certainly WEIRD). I mean we saw all this happen with Diana and we’re seeing it again with Meghan, the way that the Firm will go to extraordinary measures to tamp down the power of a charismatic, self-possessed woman in its ranks. Meghan ended up with the best of both worlds in the end though–she gets to keep her man and raise a family with him without being stuck in the messed-up institution. I don’t think Chelsy or Cressida ever thought such an arrangement would have been possible. But I think even if he had chosen a woman other than Meghan, he would have left the Firm anyway. He’s wanted to leave since the very moment he had to walk behind his mother’s coffin in front of the whole world, and I don’t blame him one bit. His exit from the Firm was inevitable; the way his family treated Meghan was the catalyst, but it would have happened eventually anyway.

  31. Emmitt says:

Harry probably proposed to Chelsy but not to Cressida. She and her family/friends are still thirsty for Harry.

  32. Snuffles says:

Did a little googling. It seems like Cressida was firmly with her now husband when Harry and Meghan got married in 2018. Which would explain why she seemed in good spirits at the wedding. She was obviously happily in love at that point.

Chelsy, on the other hand, was pensive and sad that day.

  33. Le4Frimaire says:

I never followed these romances or Harry back then but it seems they were all too young to be getting married at the point they were in their lives. We all have those love relationships that don’t make it to the altar for various reasons, and eventually find that person we will wed. Maybe they’d have been fine if they married H, but who knows. Meghan truly was a unique person in both her role and the hell she was put through. I still think the palace was hoping Harry would be a bachelor well into his 40s, and either be a sad player with younger girlfriends or marry some country dowager eventually.

  34. 2cents says:

I remember an article last year in which some professor called Harry’s ex girlfriends before Meghan “Eurotrash”, meaning too light for the royal job. Harsh but true.

Harry always had a plan A and B. Plan A was to find the right woman who loved him enough, willing/able to become a royal and endure the inevitable royal heat as wife of the spare, always in his brother’s shadow. Plan B was to escape royal life with this woman if Plan A would fail. She would have to be willing to give up the privileges of royal life and live a normal life with him outside of the royal bubble. He knew he wasn’t strong and savvy enough to make a successful jump into the world on his own. They had a better chance as a team.

Especially after he left the Army, his previous escape for 10 years, his urge to leave grew stronger as he was pushed further and further down the heir line to the throne.

Chelsey and Cressida failed the test. They were not strong or mature enough to be the teammate he needed to execute both plans. Harry is very aware of his status and position and (as a true Virgo) very rational in weighing his options.

As a gentleman he continued a platonic friendship with his ex girlfriends while he kept searching for the One, that evasive needle in the hay and then………

    • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

Harry is thought to have been 1 step out the royal door for most of his adult life. It’s thought that Elizabeth asked him to leave the army to take on more royal duties since Kate and William were refusing to take on more royal duties. Elizabeth, Charles and probably William always convinced him to stay. I think it was easier for him to be a royal when he was in the army. Harry always wanted to live as normal as a life as possible. He’s not lazy like William but Harry never had any desire to be a full-time royal and I find it rather shameful it was forced on him. I think Harry ended both relationships but I think the reasoning was different.

In the case of Chelsy I think she wanted it too much and that put Harry off because Harry had one foot out the door and wanted someone not after the title. Chelsy seems incredibly bitter to this day that the relationship ended. She seems like she has a chip on her shoulder and as several have commented has been known to hold racist views. I think that comes from her jealousy of Meghan.

In Cressida’s case, I always got the feeling that relationship was a bit forced on Harry. She strikes me as someone Charles and Camilla set him up with. I also think this was around the time Harry went to therapy. I think he lost interest in Cressida because she was known for being a bit shallow. I can see Harry wanting someone with more substance. Also Cressida has long asserted that the meme about the treatment of people shortly after their breakup was not directed at Harry but the way she set it made me think it was in fact directed at someone close to him.

  35. SJ Knows says:

Both these women are from wealthy families.
But, marrying Harry would have been The Prize of Royalty.
I don’t think either of them were in a lifelong love affair with him but they sure don’t have a problem always mentioning their connection. Cressida mostly, IMO.

And yes, many of the younger Royal females do seem to show up in the tabs a lot, attention seeking. Lady Kitty Spencer is papped a lot in Daily Mail. Her Pa is hugely wealthy and as far as I know she spends her tome modeling or being papped..she will marry money. None of the folks connected to any of the BRF, are looking to marry someone employed at the local lunch counter.

Meghan was a self made millionaire by the time she met Harry, she was not working at a shop he stopped at for a new tie.

Meghan, IMO, in many ways has more understanding of the real world vs. Harry.
Harry seems to love her. William, on the other hand, seems to be friendly with his wife, not a love match but as the Brits do “they carry on”

  36. Ali says:

When the story of the Cressida break up first was reported in People mag, it said how Harry found her clingy. Two hours later the story turned into Cressida dumped him because of flight tickets. Given how Harry was partying in Miami and Texas not long after, while Cressida staged pap shots of her running around aimless in London, I know which story to believe. Not in a hundred years did he propose to her and I would say the same about Chelsy. They were last together when he was like 26. Far from thinking about marriage imo.

  37. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

I don’t think William actually wanted Harry to marry. I think he wanted him to have that “fun” single guy vibe. So I can see Kate being used to scare off anyone who was willing to settle down. What makes it funny and great is that Meghan won’t budge from his side.

  38. Sydney says:

If Harry proposed to one of the blondes we would’ve heard about it by now. Given how much Brits don’t like Meghan they would’ve loved to rub it in her face that she wasn’t Harry’s first choice.

  39. Mariane says:

Another fanfiction from Lacey. The guy is desperate to sell this book but it’s clear even his anti H&M comments arent convincing the daily fail crowd to buy the book😂

  40. Kimberly says:

I don’t believe for 1 minute that Harry proposed to either of these 2 women. It’s sensationalism.
I used to be very active on the Daily ‘Fail’ years ago when Harry was with Chelsy. He seemed very into to her at the time. They were young and having fun but I never got the impression that he was ready to settle down with anyone, not even her.
As for Cressida, I knew they were never going to last. He didn’t seem that interested.

I remember around Olympics season, some years ago, the paparazzi got hold of the photos of his ‘Royal Jewels’ when he was playing strip poker in Las Vegas I think LOL.
I know that’s random & irrelevant to this topic but at that stage in his life I think he enjoyed his freedom. MARRIAGE was most likely NOT an option for him with anyone.

We’ve had exes and that’s in the past (some good & bad moments) & I’m sure he does not regret his relationship with Chelsy in particular, but he’s moved on & so should Robert Lacey with his ridiculous money grubbing venture with his rehashing of OLD stories that’s been in the public space for YEARS.

Harry is a lot older, more mature now than he was back in his late 20′s & very early 30′s & he met Megan at the right time. They seem to compliment each other well in every way & he seems head over heels in love with her.
