Lindsey Graham won re-election in his SC Senate seat by a healthy margin

I think we can safely say that the dream of a blue wave is over. There are still House and Senate races yet to be called, and there’s every indication that the Democrats will retain a significant majority in the House. The Senate is still up in the air though. Depressingly, Lindsey Graham won re-election, even though he was outspent and out-organized by Democrat Jaime Harrison. It’s still South Carolina, after all. Lady G won more than 300,000 votes than Harrison, so he won with 56% of the vote.

Democrat John Hickenlooper won the Senate seat in Colorado, beating incumbent Cory Gardner. We also picked up a seat in Arizona – Mark Kelly beat incumbent Martha McSally, a deeply unpopular senator. Joni Ernst won re-election in Iowa, which SUCKS because she’s a nutjob. We also lost the Kansas Senate seat by a big margin. What else? John Cornyn won re-election in Texas. Doug Jones lost his seat in Alabama. They’re still counting votes in Maine so we don’t know about Susan Collins, but right now she’s leading by about 30K votes (with only 68% of the votes counted). Cory Booker won re-election. North Carolina is still too close to call, in the Senate race and the presidential race. Same with Georgia and Michigan – the Senate and presidential contests are coming down to the wire.

Ugh, the smug look on his face…….

  2. Veronica S. says:

If we lose the Senate, it honestly doesn’t matter who wins the presidency much. I mean, Trump’s cabinet is definitely dangerous, far more so than he is, but without a Senate majority, we’re screwed. Gridlock is all we’ll see for the next four years.

    • Agirlandherdog says:

Not 4 years. Two years. Midterms in 2022. Don’t give up. It’s hard. We’re all so f***ing tired. But please, take the time you need to recover emotionally, then jump back into the fight. There will be opportunities to flip in 2022. Look at those races and see where you can help.

      • Veronica S. says:

Oh, I’m not going anywhere. I just am wary of the goldfish memory and fickle sentiments of American voters when it comes to economy. I really hope young people learned a hard lesson here and show up for 2022 because the next decade will decide a lot about America.

Pennsylvania is losing Toomey in 2022, but Pennsylvania is no longer a Democratic city stronghold. It’s demographics are increasingly conservative due to the fracking industry here. That’s going to be a hard fight.

Now release the Lady G sex tapes.

    Lindsey Graham makes me retch.
The scum who vote for Lindsey Graham make me retch.

    • josephine says:

I think that in the end his legacy will be that of a weak, immoral man. I think all of these Republicans, especially Graham and McConnell, will be known for nothing else in the end but their support of facism and their lack of support for the Constitution. Their names will be associated with the very worst of men, like Hitler, the very worst of American history.

      • Frida_K says:

So what if their names are known for the very worst? They don’t care. They could not care less if they tried.

I am in Texas and my initial thought is to wish the people of Kentucky and Iowa and Maine and South Carolina misery. Utter, unrelenting misery so that they know, to the depths of their very bones, the meaning of the Santa Teresa de Ávila quote “There are more tears shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones.”

But I’m in Texas. And I voted and did all I could to get rid of Cornyn and he got reelected. We’re no better than South Carolina, Iowa, Maine, or Kentucky. Or Florida. We’re pretty close to Florida in terms of dumbness.

I read that the Latino vote didn’t come out for Biden here in Texas. I haven’t double-checked to see if that’s true. But if it is? Pinche pendejo, the brown folk better not whine about being locked up in cages in Texas then because they didn’t even vote to save themselves. I will swallow my bitterness and say nothing, but that is what I am thinking: “You did this to yourselves, then, so don’t complain when they come for you.”

And the Cubans in Florida, dancing in the streets with joy over that garbage’s win there? Ay, madre, how I hope that some of them end up in cages at the border in Texas. They’re recognized in Miami but anywhere else? They are Spanish speakers with brown skin, so according to a fat swath of this country they are aliens who deserve to be driven out with sticks. I hope that they learn that first-hand, much to their shock and shame and sorrow.

Yes, I am angry today. I am so angry.

I hope that we will win and we must stop playing nice once that filth is washed from the White House.

      • BnLurkN4eva says:

And what of the people who voted for them, what will they be remembered for? We have to stop thinking that decency will make a return and face the reality that humanity are increasingly choosing to be inhumane. They are just fine with that and us thinking that any day now, they are going to regret these monstrous behaviors is wishful thinking. Also the hope we place in the youth that they will some how be different, that too is misguided as so many just hold firm to their parents/guardians belief.

      • josephine says:

I’m not saying that they will go to their grave full of regret. I’m saying that history will not be kind to them and their names will be every bit as poisonous as Hitler. And I do think that these men care about their legacies to some extent. Their egos are massive and they need confirmation because let’s face it, at their cores they are whiny, insecure losers who know damn well what they are.

I think the people who voted for them are equally vile. But 10 years from now I betcha no one admits that they voted for Trump.

As far as I’m concerned, Satan earned a f*ck ton of new souls in this election and the last. White evangelicals are right up there with every Republican Senator and the entire administration of evil.

      • Sunnydaze says:

I think the worst part of this is I think Lindsey, marco, ted, Mitch, all those scumbags have drank so much effing kool aid that at this point even if history is it unkind to them they’ll chalk it up to the “liberal media bias” and retreat back to their echo chambers. And as long as they are in power they can keep cutting education and other resources….keep people scared and poor or rich and insulated. They are the ultimate examples of a victim mentality come to life where everyone else has to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and deal with life except for them.

    • mytwocents says:

In case you haven’t seen this youtube video, it’s called, They all knew… (about how bad Donald Trump really was) and Lindsey himself starts it off… they are all hypocrites

  5. Erin says:

I live in Detroit and watching John James’ campaign has been appalling. He’s a complete Trump puppet with zero plans to legislate and who has never been able to articulate his positions. I’m thinking of leaving this state after all this. I can’t imagine how progressive folks are feeling in South Carolina. Jaime Harrison fought a great fight and deserved to win. I’m so sad for all of us today, but hopeful that every vote will be counted.

    • Esmom says:

I’m not in Michigan but my son goes to university there and he’s been dismayed to see how Trumpy it is. I can’t help but think that Gary Peters could have used some of the money that other races got from all the blue fundraising. He slipped under the radar and it is a huge loss.

  6. Rapunzel says:

My greatest hope heteis Trump loses and tells everyone the reason why Miss Lindsey does his bidding. We all know Trump has dirt and that’s why Linds started kissing his ass after playing golf.

I praying Trump loses and spills boiling tea all over the GOP on his way out.

    • chicken tetrazzini! says:

Lady G has been outed by many a sex worker on twitter, it won’t be a surprise.. Own your truth Lindsey, you sad pathetic man

  7. OriginalLala says:

I’m stunned….hate must be one hell of a drug for people to still be voting for these GOP nutjobs

    • Merricat says:

Agreed. I really don’t know what to say about it at this point. We’ve had four years of hate, misogyny, racism, murder–and they want more. I’m out until this is finished. I can’t take it.

  8. Sarah says:

I’m from South Carolina and it’s not surprising at ALL that Graham won again. The good ol boys ( and girls) here were manic about getting him re-elected. His radio spots were basically promising that if Jaime H was elected, he and his protester “friends” would personally come burn down your house/ business. Ugh.

  9. Leah says:

I don’t get it. Either the conservatives of SC don’t know about Lady G or don’t want to know about Lady G. He was sprouting off nonsensical antebellum era nonsense and begging for money and he still won? What a bunch of crap.

They don’t know about his rent boys? Just as long as he keeps it in the closet and out of their faces while he votes away the rights of others that they don’t like eh? What a hypocrite.

  10. SusieQ says:

I lived down in Charleston for a few years, and I can’t say I’m that surprised. I have lots of family there, and the white people in that area still live like it’s the Antebellum.

I too wonder what Dump has on Graham. Graham used to have a sliver of integrity, especially back in the days when he and John Warner spoke out against some of the Iraq War nonsense.

    • Lightpurple says:

That pig has never had integrity. He gleefully led the Clinton impeachment proceedings for adultery while surrounded by a group of conspirators who were all cheating openly on their wives. Monica Lewinsky told him how disgusting he was to his face as he asked her questions about her sex life.

  11. Stacy Dresden says:

So depressing. Harrison was a fantastic candidate.

  12. heygingersnaps says:

Why are there so many people who hate themselves and their fellow human beings to the point of voting for this pompous, treasonous and corrupt prick?!

  13. Kimber says:

From Iowa and I am deeply disappointed that this state can’t see what is in front of their noses. Joni Ernst IS a nut-job and these farmers and cities also- continue to vote red. The last four years should have opened their eyes. Clearly it didn’t. Nothing ever will. I do feel that if all you watch is Fox News then they become brainwashed. They don’t ?can’t? see the world as it really is.

  14. Dana says:

I’m so pissed at Cal Cunningham right now. He really f-cked up and I feel like it hurt Biden a bit in NC. (And I voted for him.)

    • Noodle says:

@Dana, I don’t know why I read “Cal Cunningham” as “Cal Worthington” but I did. And now I can’t get the “Cal Worthington and his dog, Spot – Go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal!” Out of my head. I’ve been up since 3am worrying about the election and my reading comprehension is clearly failing me today…

    • Poisonella says:

Yeah, I voted for him too. Still better than Thom Tillis, and didn’t lose by that much.

  15. Ariel says:

Graham had said in recent days: A black person can go anywhere in South Carolina as long as they are conservative (aka not “uppity” and knowing “their place”)
and a woman is welcome in society as long as she is anti-legal abortion and follows a “traditional path” (aka is submissive to her husband).

This is who we are as a nation. This is the white majority.

If this isn’t you- and it isn’t me- we’re a minority.
And they are going to be bolder.

    • JRenee says:

so much is tied to anti abortion and it’s sickening. There are no rights a White, Heterosexual Male has to fight for and yet they control basic human rights for everyone.
People will obviously tolerate hungry children, children in cages, uneducated children, children with no health care but it all stops with lies and misinformation about abortion. And so we are here!

  16. H says:

The only highlight of the night was the Twitter feed of Cory Gardner (R) who lost in Colorado. People hate that guy. Unfortunately, if Trump wins, I’m sure he’ll reward Cory with a cabinet position. But hearing Corey’s concession speech? My heart sang with joy. Otherwise, I live in Floriduh and am planning my way out.

  17. GRACE says:

Have to put in my two cents too…I’m in NC..in the “Blue bubble” of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and to say that I am disappointed in the vote here is an understatement. I am surrounded, I guess, by ignorant, racist, money-grubbing assholes who care more about keeping up the “old South” than people in cages, systemic racism, police brutality, not to mention all the other 45 shit. I am OVER it. I want to escape to a desert island away from these jerks. Four more years of impotent, corrupt Thom Tillis. Puhlease. Save me!

  18. FancyPants says:

Ugh. This is going to make the Republican senators feel [even more] invincible. I can’t believe we only picked up one net seat.

  19. Lexi says:

Anyone here in GA like me? Not too happy about Perdue’s chances.
