Anderson Cooper: Donald Trump is an ‘obese turtle on his back, flailing…’

United States President Donald Trump holds a briefing

Donald Trump waddled into the White House’s press briefing room last night, making his first on-camera appearance since his batsh-t crazy White House appearance around 2 am Wednesday morning. The Wednesday morning speech was where Trump showed off how f–king stupid he is, and that he doesn’t comprehend how votes are tallied. He tried to “claim” certain states (Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida) and it was just… insane. Since then, he’s been sitting in the White House residence, surrounded by cheeseburgers, the desperation seeping out of his orange pores, calling up governors and whining about how in the world they’re allowing Democratic votes to be counted. He truly is the most pathetic dipsh-t alive.

So, I actually think the American people were primed for just how stupid he would be when he was clearly losing. In the first MINUTE of his speech, he was lying so much that MSNBC just stopped airing the speech completely, with Brian Williams cutting in almost immediately:

Apparently, all of the network TV stations cut Trump off too – NBC, CBS and ABC – at some point early in his unhinged speech. So, what was so bad? Trump basically argued that there was widespread fraud in all of the states and cities which were voting for Biden, that they were going to sue everybody, that horrible, terrible things were happening with the vote and that he knows this because he’s losing. His rancid beef jerky brain can’t comprehend that he’s losing all of these states. Anyway, CNN carried Trump’s speech in its entirety, and then Jake Tapper and Dana Bash came on and read him for filth:

“Ugly” and “pathetic” and “sad.” Yes. And then minutes later, Anderson Cooper took over the election desk and performed this beautiful piece of prose:

In case you want to tattoo AC’s words onto your body, here you go:

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this from a President of the United States and I think, as Jake said. It’s sad and it is truly pathetic. And of course it is dangerous, and of course it will go to the courts, but you’ll notice that the president did not have any evidence presented at all, nothing. No actual, real evidence of any kind of fraud. He talked about people putting papers up in windows he talked about things he’d seen on the internet.”

“That is the President of the United States, that is the most powerful person in the world, and we see him like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realizing his time is over, but he just hasn’t accepted it and he wants to take everybody down with him, including this country.”

[From Newsweek]

Don’t get me wrong, I love all of this. I love this energy. I love Jake Tapper and Brian Williams and Nicolle Wallace and Anderson Cooper calling Donald Trump a pathetic loser, a ratf–king liar, a degenerate turtle, all of it. I just wish some of that energy had been there for the past five years, I’m just sayin’!

There is no bottom for Trump. Just subterranean.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

And down into the bowels of hell. Where he (and his admin) belong. Well…there and in a jail cell for the rest of their unnatural lives!

  2. trace_smiles says:

I’m Australian and have unashamedly been really invested in the American political mess, debacle, crisis, what have you, since Dump beat Hilary. My heart has broken, over and over again for my American friends as this tool has broken parts of their society.
To FINALLY see the American media call this for what it is has been incredible. Anderson Cooper may have just taken over as my favourite person of the year…. I’m still laughing about the turtle 😂
Stay strong America, we’re all here for you.

    • Shazze says:

The turtle comment was inappropriate, and I couldn’t love Anderson more for it! I’ve said far worse every day for nearly 4 years. And my nerves are nearly shot, the BS has to end soon.

  3. Aang says:

No, something grosser than a turtle. If I saw a turtle struggling I’d flip it over.

    • LadyMTL says:

I said something similar last night, along the lines of that’s not fair to obese turtles…it’s not bad enough that they’re upside-down but to be compared to him as well? Poor things. (And yes, I would flip over a turtle too, whereas I would flip something else entirely at the sentient orange.)

      • Ktae says:

Honestly. I would help the turtle. As for Dump, I would probably devolve into an earlier form and start throwing $h!t at him.

    • The Hench says:

Dungbeetle? Although, to be fair, I’d happily help the beetle out too – but certainly not Trump.

    • Va Va Kaboom says:

Cockroaches don’t do too well on their backs either…

    • Coco says:

I would not help a snapping turtle, because I have an irrational fear of them biting off my fingers. I would call someone to help it though.

      • osito says:

That is a highly rational fear, Coco.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

You help a snapping turtle with your snow shovel. We had one wash out in front of our house after a torrential downpour. We tried everything to get him out of the road before we realized we could scoop him up with the snow shovel.

      • Shazze says:

Yeah, Anderson’s comment was wrong, he should have said obese SNAPPING turtle. Cause that dumpster fire will make us pay on his way out – narcissists are enraged and vengeful when crossed.

  4. Seraphina says:

I watched this last night just so I could see how he would behave. He looked beaten and down trodden. The lies he spewed were just mind boggling. All the states he won, the race is fair but the ones he lost, there is fraud. And he lauded how great the Senate did but the senate and house are on the same ballot as the president. So how did the evil Democratic Party steal the election from him, yet weren’t able to pull off the senate. Give us a break. The statement of putting papers up in Philly is BS, all day CNN has been showing us what was going on and not once did I see papers up or was that reported. And the topper was that he said the republicans party is the working class party. Yeah ok. When he walked off last night, his walk was broken. He knows his goose is cooked.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yep he knows he is out on his orange lard ass and will be indicted in lawsuits up to his chiny chin chin.

Like the evil narc he is he is going to burn it all down, the way that a spoiled toddler will break their own toys to stop others playing with them.

      • Seraphina says:

I cannot imagine having to deal with a man child on a daily basis. Whether as a manager, husband or whatever.

      • Christin says:

My guess is that he will soon skulk away to his properties and keep charging taxpayers for 60+ days until his term is up. And he may launch a 2024 campaign right away, just to milk some more funding.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

He will run to Florida and hide behind his twitter account.

      • Noodle says:

@digitalunicorn, the process is already underway to examine his Hatch act violations. I hope he is indicted for much more than that, but it’s a good start.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

@Noodle he has violated the Hatch Act MANY TIMES. It is a toothless law. Google how he and his staff received only a reprimand, no jail time and no fine.

    • Bevvie says:

I would hope by 2024 he and his demon spawn will be in prison.

  5. MsDiMeanOur says:

my nails are itching to scratch the orange out of this man’s face! its disgusting
like he does not possess a mirror!

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Unless your nails are a few inches long, there’s not enough room underneath to hold all the moldy orange crap you’d scrape off the despicable, pitted face.

  6. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

    Cooper massages my brain.

  7. Anna says:

Stephen Colbert monologue was also amazing.

    • lemonylips says:

Colbert was great! I started watching that Trump speech last night but shut it down right away. You know when you’re not even angry anymore and just want to see him go away? Seeing that MSNBC shut him down so fast was amazing.

    • greenmonster says:

      Stephen Colbert was amazing!

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Colbert actually made me cry. I just broke.

  8. Lightpurple says:

He was rage tweeting at 2 AM. He’s going to be a complete disaster today. He doesn’t get how his crazed speeches about election fraud compare to Biden’s calm, measured, professional insistence that every vote be counted.

And his three oldest spawn seem to be in a contest over who can be the most unhinged liar.

    • Bre says:

Don jr and Eric forget that the GOP is just like Trump. Expects but doesn’t give loyalty. Don jr is going to have a serious meltdown if Trump loses and no one is returning his call.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yeah – over here in the UK i’ve been reading reports that GOP are going to dump him. It will be interesting to see if even they back his lawsuits to steal the election.

The Dumps have served their purpose for GOP as through them they got what they’ve always wanted – the Supreme Court.

It’s going to be fun watching the Trumps and GOP turn on each other.

    • Chris says:

I don’t even remotely underestimate Ivanka’s awfulness, but I missed any news about her. It must have been drowned in the other news about his other spawn. I’ve never seen a better argument against nepotism. They are unremarkable losers and I hope they disappear into obscurity.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I think they are all vying to see who Daddy doesn’t throw under the bus to save his own fat ass, plus you can bet Nagini and The Boy are to busy trying shore up their power base in DC (not that they will have any left after this weekend) and moving money to off shore bank accounts.

The GOP powers that be will turn on the lot of them (and his staff) and it will be amazing to watch and you know the Trumps will take as many of the GOP as they can.

      • Noodle says:

Santorum and Christie are already jumping ship. I don’t think it will be long until the rest of them go too. I’m surprised about Chris Christie. That COVID hospitalization seemed to knock some sense into him.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Trump kids knows there are indictments waiting for them over that charity fraud matter in NY. When daddy was prez they had a chance to escape retribution. Now? No.

    • Traveler says:

I just can’t even begin to imagine what it is like trying to keep peace in that family.

  9. ItReallyIsYou,NotMe k8 says:

I was watching last night when Anderson Cooper said that and my mouth dropped open. I think he was baiting trump because everybody knows how much trump cares about his appearance and so calling him obese is designed to make trump go absolutely bonkers. I am glad because the more crazy trump sounds I hope that means that his supporters or anybody who’s actually thinking about challenging these votes will be forced to ignore him.

    • Also Ali says:

I was watching when MSNBC cut Trump off two sentences into his speech and said they had to because unfortunately the president is lying. It was amazing!

I also saw Anderson Cooper’s description of Trump as a turtle on his back in the sun.

Between the two, I thought at least Trump doesn’t have media support for his coup. There is hope yet.

  10. SJ Knows says:

Where were the true journalists all 4 years of Trump?
The calling him out now is 4 years too late! The damage this turd has done in this country will take decades to reverse.

    • Esmom says:

I have been blown away by how suddenly now, in his last days, the media have finally figured out how to cover him. NYT even said he lied in a headline, which is a first. Where was this five years ago when we really needed it?!

PBS kept him on but with a graphic that said “Trump makes false claims about the election” that stayed up the whole time. Just last week they would have said “Trump gives remarks about election status” or something equally “neutral.”

We can only hope this maybe helps prevent another Trump from rising.

      • Darla says:

Yes, not exactly profiles in courage.

      • Christin says:

It’s like they finally found a light switch, after five years of covering him. The cable networks generally normalized him and fell for nearly every distraction, tweet, etc.

      • ATLMathMom says:

I feel like over the duration of his presidency that the press knew that they were enabling him to some extent, but it was about clicks. And no one wanted to lose their access to the WH, even as much of a sh!tsh*w as it was. As Darla says above, not exactly profiles in courage.

      • Traveler says:

Yeah, so very little, so very late.

      • dj says:

I have to say MSNBC (esp. Nicole Wallace) has been calling him out for months now. But certainly others could have called out the Orange Ogre before now. Just call him a liar when he lies would have been helpful!

    • notasugarhere says:

I read elsewhere (not verified) that I Call My Wife Mother Pence controls all interview requests for US federal employees. If any of those outlets wanted to interview federal employees for the last four years, on or off camera, Pence had to approve it. If they didn’t continue to walk a fine line, all access to those interviews was gone. IDK if that was true for non-US news outlets too.

      • BeanieBean says:

No, not true. I’m a fed and that sort of thing would definitely have made it’s way down to my level if so. Years ago, one agency I worked for–the US Forest Service–required WASO office approval prior to speaking with a reporter, but the approval process was delegated down to the regional office level.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

No trophies for them. NYTimes ran their 2 page editorial spread supporting Trump. They also wrote multiple stories about the Mighty Fine Nazi next door normalizing the behavior. The rest rolled on their backs and wet themselves for 3+ years during his lying press conferences. Yeah, from this journalist, no trophies or medals.

I knew they would find their balls once Trump’s power waned. Otherwise they would have kept on their knees worshiping him. I will not forget all the free media coverage they gave him in 2016 over Clinton. They made this monster. Now they want to be a villager with a pitchfork. Sure, Karen and Chad. Sure.

    • Anna says:

@SJ and all: Agreed. The media has been normalizing him since the beginning, pre-2016 including talk shows like Jimmy Fallon. I really blame the media a lot for laughing and carrying on with him and never having the guts to speak up against his b.s. in these four years. Seriously, I have zero trust for the mainstream media especially NYTimes and CNN.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

They cuddled up with him for clicks and ratings. I have no sympathy for the bed they climbed into.

    • ravynrobyn says:

      @ SJ KNOWS-YAAAAASSSSSSSSSS❗❗❗❗❗
WHERE THE HELL WERE THEY. ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
      👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

  11. Becks1 says:

To be fair, many of those journalists WERE calling him out for years. Nicolle Wallace has referred to his ramblings as “insane” and “lies” for years now. MSNBC often refuses to air his press conferences or whatever and will just sort of provide updates if he says anything of note (spoiler alert: he doesn’t.) Rachel Maddow refuses to cover his tweets because she doesn’t want to give them air time. I know MSNBC is viewed as pretty biased, and it certainly is, and I think Morning Joe gave him way too much airtime in the beginning, but a lot of their anchors and reporters there have been calling out Trump’s BS for what it is for a while now.

Apparently Fox aired his entire press conference and then talked about all the lies, which is…..something?

    • Esmom says:

Yes but I think the difference is that when Trump was elected (and actually also when he was running) other outlets like NYT, NPR, PBS continued to keep up an overall veneer of “balance” and therefore were much more neutral/conservative with their editorial headlines and coverage. There was a lot of rueful “Trump is Trump, wink wink” type allusions but never “Trump is lying about literally everything,” which they all said/printed yesterday.

      • Becks1 says:

NYT’s coverage of Trump has been SO….mixed. Like they have huge scoops like his tax returns, but Maggie H is so obsessed with “access” and it damages her credibility IMO.

But for TV, even CNN started correcting his speeches in real time very early on in his presidency. Their coverage hasn’t been perfect by any means (lets not forget that Kayleigh was there in 2016) but I just didn’t find Anderson and Tapper’s comments last night to be like, “omg they are finally saying it!” they’ve been saying it for years.

AC was a little more visual last night LOL.

    • Josie Bean says:

I noticed this morning that Fox News was very negative about Trump. Then I saw an article in the Financial Times (“Trump vs Fox News: this time, it’s existential”) indicting that Murdock is breaking with Trump on Fox News and in his print media, such as the New York Post’s headline, “Downcast Trump makes baseless election fraud claims”. Trump was a huge crowd-puller for Fox but if he doesn’t get elected then he is no longer relevant.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Actually “most” were not. A few were. A very few.

Also, research the number of hours of FREE press coverage they gave his rallies over Clintons. Next go and look at their more recent coverage of Trump/Pence vs. Biden/Harris. Harris stories about her clothes. Yeah, sorry but I’m a journalist and I read a LOT of news. These journalists were sycophants chasing the reality tv star for clicks and ratings. Maggie at the NYT was the worst of them.

  12. Fran says:

If Putin’s plan in 2016 by helping to put this orange waste of oxygen into the White House was to undermine the belief of the American public in democracy, his patience is beginning to pay off. This is doing so much damage, on top of everything else this turd and his minions have crashed with their stinky behinds.

    • Esmom says:

I actually felt some hope when I saw how many media outlets truly, finally called Trump out as a complete liar. Maybe this is a small step toward being able to cover someone as manipulative and dishonest as Trump in the future. It’s a lesson learned way too late, of course, but I’ll take it since Trumpism won’t be going away anytime soon.

    • Oh-Dear says:

in an incredible twist, a rumour has emerged that Putin has Parkinson’s and his health is failing quickly. I cannot help but hope.

      • JJ says:

Interesting. He keeps himself in such extreme isolation for COVID that even if true he could keep it hidden for some time.

    • Q T Hush says:

There is also a rumor that the sixteen year old female gave birth to Putin’s twins. She is no longer among the living. Who deserves father of the year trump or Putin?

  13. Ginger says:

I know a lot of Republicans that voted straight Republican but voted Biden for president. They are sick of Trump.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

And some Republican turds left the presidential vote blank. 😐

    • Edna says:

I wonder how successful the Lincoln Project actually was in getting some Republicans to abandon Trump? It seems Repubs never have a problem with Dems casting votes for them, but Repubs can never bring themselves to vote Dem…no matter the consequences or costs.

      • JJ says:

The Lincoln Project may have had some success….given the Republicans’ inexplicable success with nonwhite voters this election.

    • notasugarhere says:

But they deliberately voted for Repubs for US Senate, to ensure Biden couldn’t accomplish much to fix the US if he’s elected.

    • H says:

And I know a Democrat who voted for Trump and blue rest of the ballot. I hung up on her.

      • scollins says:

wtf kinda kink is she? Mind boggling.

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

So basically pure, unbridled racism runs deeper in her than any other, finer feeling. My genuine condolences- it’s unsettling when you discover that you even know a person like that.

  14. Teebee says:

We need a million memes of old deflated rotting pumpkins from Halloween that everybody forgets to dispose of for weeks. Because that is the ultimate Trump metaphor of his waning power and political fortunes. Left out too long. Forgotten. Stepped over for weeks and ignored even though you know it’s there. You just don’t care enough to put it out of its misery…

  15. Chris says:

I expected trump to be an evil lunatic, but the Republicans who are openly supporting and pushing his antidemocratic message is horrifying. Lindsey Graham is…. something. I can’t remember if it was him or some other Republican who argued that the president should be selected by the Republican electorate. Straight up dictatorship talk.

    • Also Ali says:

Lindsay Graham is the worst and I’m still so floored he was re-elected.

      • Chris says:

I truly don’t know what happened to Graham after McCain died. He did a huge 180 on trump. I’m guessing he realizes his support of trump got him reelected so he’s doubling down. I’m truly curious and a bit afraid of what’ll happen with all of these trump sycophants once he’s gone.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

Rumored that Trump and Putin have blackmail on Lindsay Graham. I believe that. Now Graham has drank so much Kool-Aid his brain and morals are gone.

    • Snuffles says:

I am dead serious about releasing any Lady G sex tapes of there are any. His supporters would turn on him in a millisecond! Like trigger a recall election turn on him level.

      • Lemons says:

If the sex tapes existed, I think Lady G would bow out gracefully from politics. I do wish the escort boys would unite and out him in a sting operation. South Carolina would disown him so fast…

      • bluemoonhorse says:

JMO but if we had any “real” investigative journalists this would be discovered (and I think it does exist). Instead journos are too busy chasing Nazi rallies to do any real ground work. After all most of them are just pretty talking heads nowadays since video dominates press.

  16. Mina_Esq says:

John King just explained that, with Georgia, Biden’s electoral college number could end up at 304, which is what Trump got in 2016 and couldn’t stop talking about it lol “No one has ever gotten such numbers”, he said lol

  17. Mrs. Smith says:

I was watching when MSNBC cut off the presser. I couldn’t believe my eyes. All major broadcasters just stopped it and it made total sense! Why keep broadcasting these lies?? Nicole Wallace said she was proud to work for a network that would cut off such dangerous propaganda, words not rooted in reality. Should have been doing this all along. Next, Trump must be kept from fleeing the country.

  18. AnnaKist says:

What a day to be alive, eh? Mr Cooper’s description needs modification, though, since turtles are lovely. Trump looks like a fat cockroach on its back, flailing. I wish I could be the one to grind my size 6 Mary Jane into m. My friends have already started sending me the memes.😂 This will be eating up dt’s insides. I wonder how he’ll react in that moment immediately after Mr Biden is declared. What a week. My daughter is having chemo and is pretty much bedridden, but is giving us hourly updates on what’s gappening. Every hour or so, she makes a set of screenshots showing the states still outstanding, then makes comparisons and gives us her opinion on what will happen. She was due to finish chemo next week, and have a stem cell transplant the following day, but the immunologist said her T cell levels haven’t been low enough for long enough, so she has to have two more weeks of it. It got her down for a bit, but focusing on your election has done her a world of good. 😂

    • Noodle says:

@annakist, I’m glad the good news is bringing a little bit of light to your daughter. Your description caught me in my feelings a bit, and now I’m a little misty thinking of your daughter waiting for that stem cell transplant. I hope she can get it soon, and continue on the path to healing. Sending her (and you) positive energy and prayers.

      • Dilettante says:

        +1

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

All the very best to you, your family, and your daughter, Annakist. I had a STC 6 1/2 yrs. ago, and while the path into and out the other side is rough, take it one day at a time, cheer the small victories in strength, and she WILL get through it. Sending all healing thoughts and love your way! 🤗

    • whatWHAT? says:

Sending LOTS of good vibes your daughter’s (and your!) way.

    • Traveler says:

Best wishes for your daughter’s full recovery.

    • H says:

Sending love to your daughter and family.

    • Jaded says:

AnnaKist, I’ve always enjoyed your knowledgeable and humorous posts and am sending you and your daughter many good wishes for her complete recovery.

  19. Edna says:

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Praying hard that this cluster fuck of a year will grant us at least one positive thing and rid us of that Orange 🤡.

  20. GR says:

Trump is a vile, sickening human being. But not because he’s fat. And he’s not the one who reads this stuff – all the genuinely decent fat people like me see it. And then we know how you all really see us.

    • Anh says:

      Yes that’s right

    • Chaine says:

I agree. I disliked Cooper for throwing that adjective in there. Weight or body type has nothing to do with character and it’s hurtful to imply that it does.

    • Charfromdarock says:

      Yup.

    • Anna says:

You’re right, @GR I found his terminology really problematic, too. I find Anderson Cooper a bit problematic in general…

    • Annabel says:

Thank you. I came here to say this. I appreciated Anderson Cooper’s energy, but not his choice of words. You know who else is obese, besides Trump? My best friend, my dad, and Stacey Adams, all of whom are amazing people.

    • elle says:

Yes, he revealed his own bias there.

Can a turtle even be fat? How would you know? And an overturned turtle is pitiable, not vile. Why not a “Rudy Giuliani on his back?”

  21. Liz version 700 says:

The media, sensing blood in the wind at last calls a spade a spade. No offense to Anderson as he has frequently clashed with Trump. But at last they are challenging him…after 4 years? And that speech?!? Omg

  22. Jodi says:

my thoughts exactly on the media…..they should’ve done this years ago. his lies should’ve been called out. his speeches cut short because of misinformation. i know it’s a fine line because of the media’s relationship to the President and wanting to be privy to the goings on but allowing him to spew this nonsense for so long is what got us here. i’m happy to see it changing though but too little too late

  23. Noodle says:

One of my FB friends (who is liberal) posted that yesterday Anderson used the word “cripple” in one of his diatribes about Trump. I’ve looked through a few of the videos but can’t find it. Did anyone else hear him say it? If he did, it’s pretty surprising to me because Anderson tends to use people-first language and avoids outdated language like “cripple”.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

I don’t know about that but I could see him using the verb “crippling” as in disabling to the point of not being able to carry through.

  24. Amelie says:

My family and I watched that insane press conference in its entirety. I didn’t want to but my parents were commandeering the remote. It was like a house on fire you couldn’t look away from. They originally were watching NBC News which cut it off so we watched the rest of it on CNN. I was cooking at the same time so I wasn’t following 100%, but it basically broke my brain. I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing and today I still don’t even understand what Trump was saying, because it was just that surreal. Also the fact that no other Republican politicians have commented?? Their silence is deafening.

  25. Jaded says:

Canadian here – my hope is that America doesn’t have to go through a 2 month firing rampage and never-ending frivolous lawsuits, and that the orange turd slinks away to Mar-a-Lago to work the phones on which dictatorship country will take him in or pay off his massive debts before he’s tried and arrested. My fondest wish is to see him handcuffed and pushed into the back of a police car.

  26. aquarius64 says:

I’m scared that Russia will drop receipts saying they DID put its thumb on the scale to get Trump elected in 2016. A Biden DOJ will be under pressure to investigate Clan Trump and Putin sits back on munch on popcorn.
