Duchess Kate ‘has flourished into a queen-in-waiting in front of everyone’s eyes’

National Service Of Remembrance At The Cenotaph

Us Weekly is not getting any royal scoops, but the magazine still plugs on, and sometimes they have some funny or interesting royal coverage. I actually don’t find Us Weekly’s royal coverage to be that bizarre compared to some of the sh-t coming out of professional royal historians’ mouths these days. So here you go – Us Weekly has a story about how the Duchess of Cambridge is already making plans for what she’ll do differently when she is queen. Mm.

Monarch in waiting! Over the last several years, Duchess Kate has been gradually shifting her mindset to that of a queen consort, the title she will hold when Prince William becomes king one day.

“Kate has flourished into a queen in waiting in front of everyone’s eyes,” a royal source says exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly. “The royal family could not be more pleased.”

“Kate may change some of the outdated royal rules when she becomes queen [consort],” the source tells Us, noting that the Duchess of Cambridge hopes to set aside more time to meet and speak with the public at official events. “She’s also been very present on social media and has gotten comfortable doing TV interviews and virtual chats. She’s keen to continue that in the future as well.”

For now, however, Kate’s main priority is her and William’s three children: Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2.

“Family means everything to Kate, and one of her biggest worries about the future is not being there for George, Charlotte and Louis,” an insider previously told Us.

[From Us Weekly]

There’s a grain of truth here which I found interesting, which is that Kate and William behave – these days – as if they’re about to become king and queen any day now. They already put on those airs. They already behave like they’re “in power.” I think that’s why Prince Charles keeps being a tad shady about the Cambridges too – he’s reminding them that he’ll actually be king before they get a whiff of power. And I still, to this day, don’t understand why William and Kate haven’t branded themselves as “Future Prince and Princess of Wales.” There’s power in those titles too.

As for Kate changing the rules when she becomes Queen – the only way Kate will change any rules is so she can go back to the Victorian-era style of monarchy, where little would be expected of her. She certainly won’t be doing *more* as Queen. Lolz.

is she ever not going to be KEEN?

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Deep, spiritual, embiggening and propping up sigh.

    • 809Matriarch says:

I was just scrolling down to say the same thing! Can’t these reporters/gossipers use a thesaurus? They make the Keenbridges look like clowns. Kate the Keen and Willie the Incandescent! Ugh!

    • Lizzie says:

Lol. Will any January not be the start of ‘her year’.

  2. Chica1971 says:

That’s a stretch! She cosplays and had a few successful things this year. Sounds like PR. fluff. Can’t tell if the bar is that low or trying to get ahead of Meghan. Successful princess would be Victoria of Sweden, for consorts Letizia, Mathilde and Maxima. Kate is not any of those other ladies league..

    • Becks1 says:

Also, this really makes it sound like she’s about to be queen any day now – the line about her priority is being there for George, Charlotte and Louis – they’ll all be in their 20s (most likely) when she becomes queen consort, and while yes people in their 20s need their parents (or want to be around their parents) its very different than when you have young children.

And the line about wanting to set aside more time to talk to the public at official events – that seems like a pretty direct dig at the queen and Charles.

    • Jenn says:

What successful things? The 5 big questions are a bust. 4 charities are shuttered.

      • Becks1 says:

The Hold Still competition was pretty successful IMO, how much she was involved is a different story, but it was still successful.

      • notasugarhere says:

It wasn’t her project or idea, Becks1. It was the idea and hard work of people employed at NPG. She simply showed up and took credit.

      • Becks1 says:

@Nota – I know that. But it was still more than she usually does, lol.

      • Monica says:

I suspect her getting credit for Hold Still is the work of H&M’s old publicist.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Becks1
But she didn’t even show up at the end. The Queen spoke in place of her. Which was extremely odd. She’s given the bare minimum and still never handles that.

    • FC says:

Speaking of cosplay, does this mean she’ll start cosplaying the Queen’s fashion soon? She’s def toed that line with the frumpy fashion.

      • SomeChick says:

IDK but there is definitely a corset under that red dress. Perhaps she’ll get into Victoriana next!

    • PEARL GREY says:

If only the royals knew that all it took to get Keen Kate to do a fraction of work was the arrival of a new duchess and a deadly global pandemic.

    • Carrie says:

Nor is she in Princess Mary of Denmark’s league. Mary learned to speak Danish, established the Mary Foundation, is an accomplished public speaker and is extremely hard working. Kate simple doesn’t compare to any of these ladies.

  3. Eleonor says:

In 30 years British press will write how she has become more comfortable in her role, and how she is ready to be the Queen.

    • Osty says:

I’m always feel second hand embarrassment for her when I read their pathetic pr and and I don’t even like her

    • Noodle says:

I feel like I should run a “Turn It In” report for originality on this article. Pretty sure it was just copied word-for-word from every other of the 100’s of articles written on this exact topic.

      • Lady2Lazy says:

@ Noodle, yup. It’s the same PR article she has been touting all year! She is ready for her close up as TQ, yet she can’t get out of her own way to accomplish anything of any substance. She is just bidding her time until PWT is king and she will still be doing nothing If there is still a monarch to be. Let us not forget that in 10 years she has not accomplished anything, which will be the same for the next ten years!

  4. Digital Unicorn says:

This not only undermines Chuck but Cams who really IS Queen in waiting but i guess its how u define waiting – if it’s ‘waitying’ then yeah she is def a queen of that.

All stories like this push is that Chuck and William are not ‘singing from the same hymn sheet’, the Cambridges have gone rouge and are undermining both Charles and TQ. For Kate stories like this are designed to shove her status in people’s faces because that is what is important to her – she is such an insecure person that there is a constant need to lord it over others. There are countless stories how her grand behaviour even during the waitying years. She always loved to shove her status as Willileaks beck and call girl in everyone faces.

    • Darla says:

Camilla is queen in waiting? I don’t think so, she’s not going to be queen, right?

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes, she is the wife of the future King and Charles has always said he will make her Queen (which is her right once he ascends the throne).

Camilla is also the Princess of Wales but she does not use that title.

      • Amy Bee says:

If the UK wasn’t driven by nostalgia, empire and white supremacy, I’d say the Queen’s departure would be the best time for them to abolish the whole thing but they are still too many people who think that the monarchy is a good thing. The pandemic has rendered the Queen useless but they still believe in her and her family. Another question we should ask is Kate going to be Queen? Hopefully by then, the UK would have moved on and realised that there’s no need for King William (or whatever name he choses) and Queen Consort Catherine.

      • Flamingo says:

Although technically Camilla should be Queen Consort when Charles succeeds his mother and becomes King, the couple have decided against that title.

Clarence House has previously confirmed that Camilla will not take on the title of Queen Consort and instead will be known as Princess Consort.

      • Becks1 says:

Even if she goes by Princess Consort, she’s still the Queen consort. and I think she will be Queen Camilla. Same way she is the Princess of Wales now but goes by a different titles.

      • Sofia says:

@Flamingo: Yes that’s true but “Princess Consort” is not a title that’s ever been used. And if Charles does issue a letters patent, it will effect everyone as in Kate and whoever comes next after her will be known as “Princess Consort”. Now there’s nothing to stop William from changing it back to Kate is back to Queen however.

      • Nic919 says:

I think they just said princess consort because in 2005 it hadn’t been ten years since Diana died. As more time goes on, more people won’t care and she will end up Queen consort. I mean the title goes to the spouse of the male monarch and that’s what she will be. It doesn’t depend on whether or not it’s a first or second marriage.

      • notasugarhere says:

If Camilla does take Princess Consort as title, it paves the way for that to be Kate’s possible future title as well (if she makes it that far). The system is not only antiquated it is sexist. They’ve changed part of the sexism by eliminating primogeniture in inheriting the throne. Next should be changing the title of the monarch’s consort.

  5. Chartreuse says:

Ba ha ha, she’s KEEN and just getting comfortable talking to people (after a decade). Is that just shade? So embarrassing to be that inept.

    • Seraphina says:

@Chartreuse, completely unrelated. Zoya has a beautiful Chartreuse polish out for the holidays called Eunice. I believe your name may point to a favorite color???

  6. Bibi says:

She cant wait for the day she is Queen because she will be at last incomparable to Meghan. Meg will still be high level working duchess and queens have more time to nap in private but have more power. I doubt she will do more. Maybe bring up 5 questions for her subjects every 8 years.

    • Mimi says:

I don’t think she will care. She and William will be King and Queen. Harry and Megan will have Hollywood careers and have obviously been cutting ties with England, royal relatives. Two different worlds, maybe less friction.

      • Nic919 says:

If Kate was secure in being future future queen we wouldn’t get these quarterly articles announcing how she will be a great queen. Someone in her camp knows that Kate is seriously lacking and that she’s just not as popular as Meghan. So we get Carole slagging Meghan’s work ethic and periodic embiggening based on very little. Kate clearly does care. We don’t see this many articles about Camilla being ready to be future queen.

  7. Jane says:

So suddenly it’s not only ok, it’s positively admirable and being encouraged for Kate to try and modernise the monarchy? And it’s suddenly fine to use social media and give tv interviews and the like? Hmmm. Clearly it’s one rule for Meghan, another for Kate.

  8. Mignionette says:

It speaks to Kate’s integrity and character that this ‘flourishing’ only happened when she watched someone else get skewered.

I used to believe that Kate was a hapless bystander but the reality is, she’s an empty vessel of a woman. Perfect for the projections of the BRF.

    • Chartreuse says:

Mignionette she’s an empty vessel personality wise but she’s proven she’s a player. Years of chasing will, using the press, giving shade to many aristos including in laws and doing it in the press. She’s got so many agendas.

      • Mignionette says:

@Chartreuse but she has also gotten way in over her head and clearly has ideas above her station.

She also better pray that Bill is in this forever, bc if this relationship ever breaks down she’s finished. Bill will crank up the PR machine and destroy her with the help of the Aristo set who are waiting with baited breath to slap her into line. And she’ll have very few friends to lean on as they’re all Bill’s friends.

      • Chartreuse says:

Yes agreed she has few friends now, if they fall apart for real it’ll be her family and that’s it

    • Seraphina says:

Sadly I think you are correct. Her happiness is dependent on others’ unhappiness. And with Wills at her side, these two are a major disappointment for the future BRF.

  9. The Duchess says:

Not these articles again!! It’s honestly like clockwork and it’s starting to become really insufferable. How many times do we have to be informed that she’s ready and able to be the future Kween Consort? All this propping up just convinces me that she’s never going to make it to the finish line. Her insecurity shows and her inability to even function as a regular human being proves she’s in no means ready. This is pathetic. She’s pushing 40.

    • Untamed says:

To me, Kate’s insecurity and immaturity despite nine years of marriage, three children and pushing forty, was prominently displayed by her tassled Remembrance day outfit.
Remembrance day is not a fashion show.
Her outfit may be viewed as just a minor annoyance by some. But I found her outfit to be disrespectful. But I suppose it’s a minor improvement from standing there, twiddling her hair in younger years, but growth, maturity in 2020? Not much at all.

      • equality says:

I find the unearned uniforms and medals of the other royals disrespectful. In comparison, hers is a minor annoyance.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate has been too lazy to be appointed to many military postings but she likely will be in coming years. I expect she will have fake medals like Anne does soon enough.

    • Tessa says:

SHe has a rather hard look on her face, Her resting face.

    • Betsy says:

I don’t understand where the articles come from, because you’re right – I do find it intolerable somehow.

  10. Mumbles says:

If the rules are so outdated why is SHE the one who’s going to have them changed? A swipe at the current queen and the next in line? Plus….child, please. As if.

That said, of all the tabloid coverage, Us is the most fictional. They were going off back in the day how Meghan would just swing by KP for a cuppa with Kate because they were fast friends and Kate would impart her wisdom. Their stuff always reads like an intern made it up so I wouldn’t read into any of this as being leaked by any one camp.

  11. Mina_Esq says:

I mean, she isn’t flashing us every time there is even a slight gust of wind, so I guess that’s progress.

  12. Amy Bee says:

    What can I say?….OK, Kate.

  13. tee says:

Yeah, we know. Anyway, I’m astounded with how little “work” they get away with doing. I thought a couple zoom calls a week was inadequate, but now it seems they’ve committed themselves to even less over the past several months. Must be nice.’

  14. Osty says:

I guess we will hear about how kate is so keen , how she has finally found her voice, how she is ready, how she is learning every year till thy kingdom comes. Not forgetting she is at the same time the king maker, top CEO, the glue that is keeping everything together, the saviour etc

All hail the keen queen, the poster girl of Karens
Also isnt it a taboo and a death sentence for a royal especially a married in to try to do things differently?

  15. earlgreyhot says:

Maybe it’s to avoid reminding everyone about the great track record the Wales titleholders had over the years when it came to relationships – first Uncle David The Five Minute King running off with a fellow Nazi sympathizer, then Daddy Charles gaslighting a naive teenager into becoming a royal broodmare and turning her life into a nightmare. The first thing that comes to mind after hearing “Princess of Wales” is “a woman constantly cheated on and driven to eating disorder by her husband”… Well.

    • Maevo says:

That’s what I was thinking! They don’t want all the baggage of those Wales titles. Also I wonder if it’s not just Will and Kate pushing this, but an overall strategy of the family because I don’t think many people are super excited for King Charles and Queen/Princess Consort Camilla. Maybe this is the strategy to say, hold on in a couple of decades or so you’ll get Will and Kate eventually! Don’t give up on the monarchy yet!

  16. Sofia says:

She’s been a royal for nearly 10 years now. She’s almost 40. Why this constant infantilisation? Like congrats to Kate for “modernising the monarchy” by doing interviews and using social media

Oh but absolutely agree that they should brand themselves as the next Prince and Princess of Wales instead (which they are actually 1st in line for). But I suppose they don’t do that because she’ll be getting the Princess of Wales title that was last used by Diana (I know Camilla legally has it but she doesn’t use it) and that will not only ramp up the comparisons further, but will show that Kate really isn’t prepared. *

    * Yes I know that almost every royal woman will fall short when compared to Diana but work wise, Kate falls short behind almost everybody anyways

    • Becks1 says:

I think the reason they don’t use it may be because Charles has hinted they wont have it.

      • Sofia says:

Honestly, I think they’ll get it. Maybe not immediately but he’ll get it. A lot of the monarchy PR rests on “Yes Charles is not great but you’ve got Diana’s son William waiting in the wings! So keep us around!” So I think Charles will give it as the sentiment in general in the UK has not changed massively.

But they’ll get to call themselves “Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge” immediately and get direct access to the Duchy so they can still market on that. But maybe it’s not as glamorous as PPoW to them

      • Becks1 says:

I used to think the same – that he would definitely get it – but now I’m thinking Charles is going to hold it over his head. Its not going to be “automatic” as I had thought it would be in the past (knowing its not actually automatic.) I think there’s partially a sentimental reason – I think Charles probably has grown attached to the title – and partially a power reason – that’s pretty much the last thing he can use to control William. When he becomes king and William becomes Duke of Cornwall, he gets the Duchy money at that point like you said.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Can you imagine Top CEO’s and Ma Mids reactions if Chuck kept the Prince/Princess of Wales titles from them – Kate and Carole are obsessed with getting that title.

      • Seraphina says:

Can Charles keep that title from them???? Now that would be interesting to see unfold.

      • Becks1 says:

@DU – exactly, and we know how Charles feels about the Middletons lol.

In all seriousness my opinion was always that they would get it, but not for 5 years or so, but its the fact that there is never any press around Kate being the future princess of wales (which you would expect, given all the Diana cosplay) that makes me wonder if something has been said behind the scenes.

      • Becks1 says:

@Seraphina – yes, he can. William has to be “invested” as Prince of Wales. Duke of Cornwall is automatic as the heir, but Prince of Wales is not.

One of my working theories has been that we will see how stable the Cambridge marriage is based on the PoW titles – I think if there’s any chance of a divorce, Charles will wait until afterwards to name William PoW, so Kate isn’t the divorced Princess of Wales.

I don’t know, the more I think about it the more I backtrack on my above statement, because I think it would be a huge scandal if he did not name W prince of wales but I do think he’ll hold off on it for a hot minute.

      • Nic919 says:

I think Charles will give it, but will make them wait at least a year.

Does Billy even speak welsh? I know he can’t speak French because he was garbage at it in Canada and Welsh seems like a harder language to learn.

      • RoyalBlue says:

Oh how I long for Charles to break protocol and last minute at the investiture announce that he’s changed his mind and Harry is the PoW.

    • Seraphina says:

Thank you everyone. I learn so much.

  17. Mika says:

I mean…. she is aging. But that’s about as Queenful she gets.

  18. GuestWho says:

Well, she really perfected the waiting thing in college and then the several years it took to get that ring of doom. Poor, sad, regrettable Kate. Imagine living your entire life just waiting for other people to do things that affect your life.

She has learned how to stand super still at important events. So, kudos!

  19. equality says:

She is single-handedly modernizing the monarchy? Don’t the queen, Charles and Camilla also use SM, meet with the public, do virtual chats and appear on TV? The older folks also do more royal appearances than Kate in addition to the “modern” things.

  20. Mignionette says:

One thing I noticed in recent weeks is how much better her public speaking is now that everything is remote and there is no public and she can take as many takes as she needs to form a sentence.

  21. S808 says:

I feel like we always get these articles around the end of the year followed by an article about Kate finding her 1246634785th voice sometime early next year. Wash, rinse, repeat. Nothing changes, especially her workload.

  22. Ginger says:

Here we go with the bi monthly “Kate has found her voice and is FINALLY confident in her role” If I was Kate I would be embarrassed.

Kate is one of the worst working royals (and I mean strictly working not personal) She still acts like she is new and doesn’t know what she is doing. She has zero passion for the job. She doesn’t care to do projects and doesn’t seem engaged at all. They threw early childhood at her because she needed something and she has kids so it made sense. She really could have used that during the pandemic but didn’t. So disappointing.

    • Sofia says:

At the beginning of the year, we get told that this is going to be the year of Kate Middleton and that she’s so keen for the year ahead and then when she hasn’t changed much from the year before, at the end of the year we get well she’s too busy preparing to be Queen anyways

      Like clockwork

    • Nic919 says:

Work wise she barely surpasses the elderly cousins in terms of engagements. None of the Queen’s daughter in laws were ever as lazy as Kate and her cousins’s wives did more than her when they were younger.

There is no excuse for Kate to do so little. She isn’t the first woman who had kids in that family and they all have nannies to help with childcare.

They don’t even have to do month long tours without their kids as was done even with Charles and Diana.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

She is like the coworker who barely does anything but gets her annual satisfactory performance reviews because she is a legacy employee. She put so much energy into snagging the man, she forgot her own personal development. Even Diana at 20 had the nous and willingness to educate herself and work hard.

    • kelleybelle says:

Yep, and she is still not comfortable on a Zoom call, still really nervous. Only “working” because she has to and because Meghan made them all look bad. She can barely read “good morning” from a piece of paper. Not consort material, never was. She still hasn’t taken the queen’s advice about sewing weights into her hems, either. Or has she? We haven’t seen her butt lately, so maybe. These BS articles are tiresome; she shouldn’t need the constant embiggening campaign, but she does, doesn’t she?

  23. JT says:

I highly doubt Kate will be changing anything; she’s not even creative enough for that, nor does she have the balls to do so. She will cling to the same rules the queen has been clinging to full stop. Sticking to the rules is how kate lords her status over people, the fake row over tights protocol is proof of that. She will be an unimaginative queen consort and probably push against the changes the monarchy desperately needs. And why doesn’t Kate have the time to do speeches and meet the public now? Why does she need to wait 20 years when she is in her 50s or 60s to do so? Hell, both W&K have been lowing the public’s expectations in regards to their work for years, the UK better get ready for the invisible king and queen consort, but then they’ll have access to the money to really live like they want to.

  24. Wowgust says:

I am pretty sure aristos will never let her be the Queen. Chuck is not able to keep the family, even his son can smear little brother. So it’s easy to manipulate Billy’s mind.

  25. Bunny says:

First, she’ll probably be in her sixties or seventies when William ascends the throne. Good thing she’s practiced at waiting.

Secondly, I’d put money on her not making it to the finish line. Her spouse does so love to dabble in the Rose garden, and I’ve long thought that when their youngest is a teenager, he’ll cut her loose.

Not that he’ll necessarily end up with Rose; just that he won’t end up with Kate. His sense of entitlement is well known, and he’ll convince himself that he deserves a livelier, less shrill companion than Kate.

    • Oh says:

I don’t think they will divorce. They have no problem living a fake life in front of the world, but they are impossible to get divorced. The perfect family image is their brand

    • notasugarhere says:

The more frustrated he becomes with her ineptitude, the more likely they will divorce. He has chosen someone who embarrasses him, and we know he doesn’t like that.

      • Becks1 says:

And I will say, I don’t think he counted on that. I think he likes that she puts up with his tantrums and cheating and all that, and he obviously knew what he was getting with her, but I don’t think he expected to be embarrassed by her public speaking or even just her questions at events (can you test the smell by smelling it?) And that may be the tipping point.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes and he is showing that frustration and embarrassment every time they do an engagement together. As H&M’s star rises the more his eyes will be opened to the reality of who he married. I don’t think Kate will get to be Princess of Wales – Chuck will make them wait for it and they WILL have to up their numbers, esp Kate. I can see Chuck making them work more before giving it to them – its obvs the more she is made to work the more resentful she becomes.

      • notasugarhere says:

I see Charles waiting 5+ years, to see if W&K divorce. That’d be one area where he and William agree. They don’t want an HRH Princess of Wales (William’s second wife) and a Princess of Wales (divorced Kate) at the same time.

      • Lorelei says:

@Becks, Nota & DU: I completely agree that William’s acute and obvious embarrassment with Kate’s public performances might be what bothers him the most at this point. He is SO VISIBLY mortified and uncomfortable whenever she’s speaking, and he always looks like he just can’t wait for it to be over.
It has been like this for a long time, but I think seeing how wonderfully Meghan did from day one both with speeches and public interactions in general made it worse, and quickly. It really brought into focus for him (well, and everyone else!) how much Kate is lacking in comparison. So now he’s both embarrassed *and* resentful of Harry’s good fortune in choosing not only someone he’s truly madly in love with, but also someone so perfect for the role and who can speak beautifully and from the heart without needing notes, ever. (Aside from her skin color, of course.)
I have no idea if they’ll divorce, but I’m in NY and I bet that even I will hear Carole’s shrieks if it turns out that Kate won’t become the Princess of Wales. They have wanted that title so badly and for so long. If Kate ends up being the Duchess of Cornwall instead of the Princess of Wales for whatever reason, Carole very well may suffer a rage stroke.

Does anyone here know why the Duke/Duchess of Cornwall is automatic but Prince and Princess of Wales is not? It just seems so random and arbitrary to me, but then again, most of the “rules” this family follows are too, so.

PS I actually feel sorry for Kate w/r/t her nervousness at public speaking, because I would be the same and *no amount* of practice would lessen the anxiety or make me much better at it. What she could have done to compensate for fewer appearances that require a speech is a ton more work in other areas, but clearly she did not.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

That last line about Kate worrying she won’t be there for the kids is very telling. She’s still too young to think she’ll die before the kids grow up. What other reasons would she “not be there” for them?

I’m not saying they WILL divorce, because I don’t think William will ever find as big a doormat as Kate. But I think Kate is WORRIED that they will divorce.

      • Ginger says:

I think it’s just an excuse for her laziness. If she was such a hands on mom and wanted to be there she wouldn’t have 3 nannies.

I kind of think she’s worried about a potential split too. There have been a lot of strange, clearly Middleton-approved articles throughout this year. They all have the same refrain: Kate’s the backbone of the monarchy and William needs/depends on her. I also have my doubts on whether a divorce will actually happen but something’s clearly wrong in the Cambridge household for Kate/Carole to be pushing these narratives so frequently. It’s one thing for them to promote the “William depends on Kate” idea, but entirely another to proclaim that she’s the cornerstone of the RF as a whole.

  26. JT says:

Kate is the same age as Meghan. 39. Look how much Meghan has accomplished in her life with probably less than a quarter of the resources Kate has had due to her family’s money, as well as her 10 years within the RF. Within just 2 years Meg has done so much on behalf of the royals while Kate’s been keen for a decade. Imagine what Meghan could’ve accomplished if she had been around for the same amount of time and was supported. I mean look what Harry has accomplished in his time as a royal. How can anybody look at Kate and look at the people in the royal family and think that Kate is prepared to be queen consort? I get Kate gets a pass because she’s white and married to the heir but damn, she’s a nonentity.

    • Nic919 says:

I think most posters around Kate’s age have done significantly more than her, even without royal titles. Maybe 20 year olds don’t realize what is possible but if you’ve hit 39 and done as little as Kate, you have lived an empty life.

      • Becks1 says:

Anyone who is 39 and works full-time has done more than Kate, lol.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

Diana was 19 when she joined that firm. She educated herself, sorted out her wardrobe and got to work. Madam is just lazy.

      • Nic919 says:

I would also add that anyone who is 39 and works part time has done more than Kate. And a 39 year old stay at home mom has done more than Kate.

      • notasugarhere says:

Anyone who is 39 and has worked 10 hpw has done more than Kate.

    • Lizzie says:

Even at 19 Diana worked at a nursery school and cleaned for her sister. Kate did nothing during the Waity years.

  27. Boo says:

These people are so nauseatingly fake. I bet Diana is happy Harry got away.

  28. Keroppi says:

All bow down to the true Keen-in-waiting!

  29. My3cents says:

Do these people have a secret bank account
where money is deposited every time someone uses the word keen?

  30. Nic919 says:

Kate will be the first virtual queen consort, in that she virtually does nothing.

  31. February-Pisces says:

“Monarch in waiting” ???? They go on like Kate is the one in line to the throne, which she f*cking wishes. I pretty sure that infamous Tatler article said something similar referring to her future queen status as “her sovereignty”. These are pretty much paid advertisements from Middleton PR, there is no actual new here.

I think she is well aware that she is never and I mean NEVER going to be queen. Calling herself ‘future queen’ right now is the best she is going to get and is milking it before it’s all over.

    • Lorelei says:

It’s bizarre how so many publications completely disregard Camilla, never even mentioning that there’s someone ahead of Kate in line for this position. I get that the younger royals sell more magazines, but they read as if Kate is up next and I wonder if/how much it bothers Camilla.

For the most part, she comes across as not giving a flying fck about such things, imo, but I’d imagine that at some point it must start to grate on her at least a bit that her existence is simply not even acknowledged a lot of the time.

I’m sure she understands that she’s not going to be the feature story or the cover girl of most magazines, especially American ones, because they’ve always focused on the younger, more glamorous royals — but to erase her completely by implying that Kate is up next is just so insulting (and shoddy “journalism,” but it’s not as if we expect much from these types of magazines in the first place).

      • February-Pisces says:

I think it really shows that camilla doesn’t push these stories about herself being the next consort, whereas Kate does. Kate actively goes out of her way to get these publications to refer to her as ‘future queen’ instead of duchess of Cambridge. That is how she is trying to brand herself. It’s always the trash American publications like Us Weekly. They are the ones that also call her ‘princess kate’ too.

      • Aud says:

I genuinely don’t think Camilla cares about being queen. At all. She wanted to be married to Charles but don’t think she enjoys the spotlight much.

But I bet it bothers her a lot to see how Charles is treated. He has always wanted to be king and stories like this seem to move straight from the queen to Will and Kate.

  32. paddyjr says:

I can’t wait to read the “Kween Kate at 70: Finally Finding Her Voice After 10 Years as Queen Consort” and “Kween Mum: How Kate is Modernizing the Monarchy for George.” Luckily for Kate, there’s always something to be keen about!

  33. Rare0217 says:

Who’s eyes?? Was she looking in the mirror?

  34. Sara says:

Kate finally found her voice again? Super!

  35. Shoo fly says:

These two make me wish Charles lives to be 110

  36. MaryContrary says:

She will be the Melania of Queen Consorts. She’ll be barely visible, do the absolute minimum and spend a ton of money on ugly clothes.

The only thing that Kate is flourishing at is refusing to eat carbs

  39. Harper says:

This is interesting. Kate is starting to worry that were she to assume the Queen Consort role, she wouldn’t be able to be there for her kids. Is this a new strategy? Realistically, Chuck is what, 72? Although he comes from a long-lived family, anything can happen at that age and happen quickly. In five years, Betty could be gone and Charles could be gone and Kate could potentially have to assume her role. Louis would still be very young at that age and there goes the school run! Is this preparation for Kate being out of sight then just as much as she is now?
Sounds like she’s putting the idea out there that no matter what her title, she’ll be doing the limited engagement, part-time royal thing until her kids are married.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Harper What I find puzzling is that there is a perception that Kate spends a lot of time with her kids. I’m a few years older than Diana (if she had lived) and the one thing that you always knew was that Diana was warm and fuzzy. You knew she wanted to do what was best for William and Harry. And, you saw her spending time with them. I don’t consider Kate warm or fuzzy. And, I just can’t conjure up an image of her playing with her kids. I could be wrong, but I just don’t get the vibe. I worry about the kids and I wonder who is their biggest influence. The RF should be worried about that, too.

      • Beach Dreams says:

Your instinct is likely correct. A few months ago there was a Cambridge-sanctioned puff piece (in People I believe) that talked about how both W&K were spending much more time with the children thanks to quarantining. It was a weird mix of boasting about the extra family time they got to enjoy and mentioning how much of a chore it was to be with the kids. William already admitted he didn’t see the kids often last year and I often suspected Kate wasn’t exactly the hands-on mother she pretended to be. The kids are probably most accustomed to seeing and being with their nannies.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I think her worry about not being there for the kids is due to the possibility that William dumps her. It’s a play for sympathy. I don’t seriously believe that she thinks she’ll be queen before the kids are grown. Charles has another 20 years to go.

      • Harper says:

I think when Charles had covid Kate thought ahead and panicked. What has she done? She could be queen in a year or two and be forced into action. Now that the Queen and Charles seem stable, she’s floating the idea that she won’t be a hands-on queen if her kids are still little. Of course, she’ll make up for that by talking to people more at the garden parties, unlike the queen!

    • Lorelei says:

@Harper: no because as soon as her kids are married, we’ll start getting articles about how excited Kate is to be a hands-on grandmother 😂

    • CC. says:

We have seen clips of Kate being really warm and rather genuine with little kids. It’s probably her favourite type of people because they aren’t going to judge the f out of her. (i can relate). I would even say Kate manages to come across as more relaxed with babies/toddlers than Meghan (no shade, M just has a sense of nervous excitability with little kids, but she’s way better with older children).

The thing is…so what UK? Are we really going to put her on a pedestal because she *checks notes* is a decent mother? The bare minimum of parenting? The praise she gets with kids is almost the same as dads getting praise for actually being involved. I would say Harry goes beyond the bare minimum by giving advice, goofing off and you know, actually stepping down to protect his son and wife.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate only started being better with kids once she had her own. And kids over the age of ten don’t seem to take her seriously because they can sense the fake personality.

  40. kerwood says:

This just makes me laugh. Exactly what has Keen Katie done to warrant this. I really wonder when, if ever, someone points out that this ‘future Queen’ has absolutely no clothes. She shows up, shakes a few hands, nods her head sympathetically and goes home. Is that what the British want in a 21st century Queen?

  41. Keen Kate says:

If Elizabeth and Charles live as long as the Queen Mother did, then W&K could be waiting over 35 years until they are King and Queen Consort.

Has anyone seen the great speeches that the Spanish Princess Leonor has done (in multiple languages too, including English and Arabic)? She’s amazing! She only turned 15 last month and has done them for over one year. Makes Kate look even worse!

    • Florence says:

Leonor is an absolute treasure and is embracing what her role in the modern world will be – as a smart diplomatic soft power across countries which are important to trade.

Kate should be thoroughly embarrassed, as a near-40-year-old who CANNOT SPEAK A SINGLE SENTENCE IN ENGLISH WITHOUT FALTERING, but honestly she doesn’t have the self-awareness. It maddens me that she could engage the best language teachers, hypnotists, therapists, anything to help her nerves. She could gain other language skills, and get to a conversational level in French, Spanish, German etc. Hell she could learn sign language and do a project/awareness drive with deaf children or other children’s disability charities. SHE HAS SO MUCH TIME on her hands (along with that cursed ring). Instead she’s content to throw cash at rotten effing coat dresses and Botox and stay the exact same mediocre shell as she was at the beginning of the marriage.

I would love to see her have to wait until she’s 70 to be queen consort. It would eat into her pride as she clearly wants to be a beautiful youthful consort.

      • Mignionette says:

Diana learned sign language and actually signed to deaf children. Just wanted to say that.

Diana was a self started who knew how to connect with people. Kate isn’t.

      • CC. says:

Lol Florence! I think so too. The fact that her fans and the media only prop her up for her looks plus how she genuinely doesn’t try makes me hope it’s a long wait. Old and a Queen when most of her fan base who are usually older croaked. Her only identity in the RF is beautiful and young, which she is, but Meghan came along and then did some.

    • Lizzie says:

No one can name any hobby or interest of Melania other than her appearance. I have a feeling Kate is the same.

    • Thirtynine says:

Yes! Princess Leonor is amazing. But with Felipe and Letizia as parents, she would have had the best education and example. And her whole family, including her sister, literally are radiant with pride in her. Lovely to see.

  42. PineNut says:

I thought flourish was an intransitive verb.

  43. LRob says:

Again? It doesn’t matter to me one bit how well or not KM does her job. It’s her job. Just get on with it. My dream moment however would be the day she expresses gratitude to her sister in law for showing her how it looks to work with style, courage and impact. I will not hold my breath but if such a thank you were sincere, it would be an act of regal grace I could applaud.

  44. Monica says:

No, no, Kate, listen carefully. You are KEEN, not QUEEN.

Also, I never thought I’d find myself saying this, but may Charles live at least as long as his mother does.

  45. Delphine says:

If by flourished you mean slowly had the life and soul sucked out of her til she was nothing but a scarecrow in a prairie dress.

  46. Tessa says:

Us should be renamed the Kate Weekly.

  47. The Recluse says:

Ugh, no, and I am real tired of seeing her face.

  48. yinyang says:

no, she just got some new clothes

  49. Elle says:

It’s like she’s been repeating the third grade for the past 20 years.

Do a Happy Gilmore and graduate!

  50. CC says:

I find it interesting they always talk about her like she is next in line.

Also they will never get divorced

  51. Nina says:

This reads like an Onion headline…

  52. Blue says:

I’m not sure if I’m binge watching the crown too much, but it’s really brought eating disorders into light this season. While Kate’s off being keen and mean, I’m just wondering if anyone is going to bring up the elephant in the room.

Is Kate’s weight even healthy? I’m on the slim side, and I can’t get down to her size without going sub 1,000 calories a day.

  53. JanetDR says:

This is really flabbergasting! They really want to just hopscotch over Charles. I’m with @Monica with this, may he live forever 😀

  54. Carolind says:

What a lot of people don’t realise is the amount of engagements Camilla does. They are not given much publicity but are on the Royal Family website.

I think William and Kate will be desperate for her to get the Princess of Wales title, the same as his mother. I think Charles and William will have a deal. William will get PofW title IF he supports Charles in Camilla being made Queen Consort.
