I didn’t even know they were friends!

  2. Darla says:

Anyone here have thoughts on Cuomo? My friends, all dems btw, seem to think this is someone “out to get him”. I’m so torn because does it matter? If it’s true, it’s true. I think it is. How much is that bad? Thoughts? Some of the stories, honestly I’ve had so much worse happen to me in the office, and I handled it. But I don’t say that. Because we should expect better now and especially from dems, no?

    • Elizabeth says:

A toxic workplace and sexual harassment can’t be tolerated. It’s fine politically because he has a (female) Lieutenant Governor who can step up (I’m hoping she isn’t implicated in his actions, that would be terrible). Democrats SHOULD be better than this.

I tolerated a lot in a terrible workplace but when they started hurting young women too I couldn’t stay quiet. It did me no good and I ended up leaving. Career was tanked. Sexual harassment truly hurts women. Please no one ever say it’s okay or should be tolerated.

      • Darla says:

I don’t think it’s okay or should be tolerated. Some of it seems very mild and open to interpretation. Some of it less so.

    • Tiffany :) says:

The allegations against him are something where if it was done in a non-work setting, it would be different. But doing these things in the work place (like asking if they sleep with older men, etc.) changes it completely. It is unacceptable.

Yes, I think a lot of people are “out to get” Cuomo because he has been a jerk for a long time. But I think he also did MANY things that are absolutely unacceptable in a work place.

      • Darla says:

Yes, this is what I feel, but ever since Franken, I have second guessed myself. I mean, I have had dems scream at me over that.

    • Atti says:

Cuomo has been this kinda guy all along. He has charisma and is very intelligent so its been so annoying that he also came off as a brute who makes a lot of wrong turns politically. If he has harassed women then he absolutely should go 100%. But he should have his day in court.

    • whatWHAT? says:

one of the more recent episodes reported sounded a lot more like assault than harassment.

I’m what they call a blue-dog democrat and even *I* think he should at least take a leave of absence while they investigate, if he doesn’t outright resign. I mean, I think Al Franken was railroaded, esp because he never even had his hands on that woman’s chest and she was allegedly “in on” the picture. meaning, she pretended to be asleep and he put his hands just in front of her chest. it was bogus.

      This?…eh, not so much.

    • JanetDR says:

I feel like the narrative has been a bit controlled, tickle, trickle, no huge deal really and then, a more “real” allegation. I’m not saying the earlier ones weren’t real, but some old dude asks if he can kiss you at a wedding is a very different thing than your boss asking about your personal life or groping you.
So , I’ve said this before, I question the timing , but the allegations? Not so much. I feel like he should step down until the investigation is complete. Kathy Hochol is a capable woman and will do a good job. Then, if he has to step down for good, it’s an easier transition for everyone.

    • Div says:

He’s guilty. i do think it was an issue that some of his behavior outside of the workplace (at a wedding, for example) was conflated with harassment in the workplace.

    • Sue says:

I’m a New Yorker and while I’m an independent voter, I vote left, so many times Dems. Cuomo needs to step down. Between this and the nursing home deaths.
Honestly most Dems I know dislike him too. People liked his Covid briefings for a while but that’s about as positive as it got with him.
We’re taxed to hell but he can never balance the budget. He threw billions at the city of Buffalo but it ended up so corrupted. He doesn’t give a shit about the MTA in NYC.

  3. Hyrule Castle says:

Why are we talking about JL?

    Ray Fisher. Snyder cut.
The abuse those actors had to take from Joss Whedon.
How releasing Zach’s work matters, because of the abuse and racism Fisher, and others, experienced on the set after Snyder had to step away (his child died), and how the studio covered it all up.
    It totally matters.

    • Darla says:

Yes, true. But what will it change? JL in the end won’t be canon. I think they already are showing that. Jenkins said they all ignored it. Fisher won’t be back to continue the character no matter what. Affleck is gone, maybe Cavil stays, but it doesn’t look good for that either.

WB blew it. They just really blew it. It was Whedon I guess.

    • duchess of hazard says:

Also, with the Justice League bit (to add on to what @Hyrule Castle is saying) that this is the Director’s Cut , which was put together after the years of fans asking. Already it seems to be better than whatever Joss Whedon’s spin was, I feel asleep a few times watching that movie – and anything with the DC Trio (Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman) is supposedly the apex of the big guns in the DC universe.

      • Faintly Macabre says:

For one thing, it will show the world Ray Fisher’s full performance in a rich story. Same goes for the other actors of color whose storylines were completely cut out by Joss Whedon. And that matters. The residuals that get paid to those actors each time someone views it matter. The jobs they will get because studios saw their range and the quality of their performances matter. Ray Fisher refused to do more DC movies *in which a specific producer is involved.* So a hugely positive reaction to his story and performance in this Justice League puts pressure on the studio to make a movie possible for him.

These things matter. They matter A LOT.

(And some of us just really like DC and Snyder’s take on it, and we’re excited to see it).

    • Darla says:

      https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/zack-snyders-justice-league-movie-review-2021

I may stand corrected. Maybe this will shake things up so much that WB will reshuffle. That’s quite a review. I was going to watch it either way (I’m a nerd) but now I’m very excited about watching it.

Edit for above – Faintly believe me I hope I am wrong! I was so let down by WB. I wanted a Marvel-like world for DC, I actually like their characters better. I don’t have high hopes that WB will backtrack and build this world from JL forward. It seems they were dropping it. But if that review is anything like the rest will be, maybe that will change. I’ll be very happy if so.

    • whateveryousay says:

Since WB already said they are going in another direction I don’t see how this does anything. Saw some early reviews which said that yes this 4 hour version was more coherent (God???) but that there are still the same issues people had with the first release with this one. They all just need to move on at this point. Cavill may be back, but Affleck won’t be. No idea about Aquaman 2, but the Flash standalone is happening and Fisher was cut out of it.

      • Darla says:

WB is wrong for cutting Fisher though. And he and Affleck are already getting great reviews on the Snyder cut. Aquaman 2 IS happening. Things can change. We’ll see. And I haven’t heard the reviews you are referencing, the ones out today are calling it a masterpiece, and placing it with The Dark Knight. So…we’ll see.

  4. Kkat says:

I think the cuomo thing can be both.
He is a harassing, abusive piece of crap that did all those things and has a toxic workplace.

And also political people are out to get him, which speaks to the timing

    • Darla says:

      I agree, it’s likely both.

    • Goldie says:

I keep hearing people say that the timing is suspicious re the Cuomo allegations. Can someone elaborate? What is so suspicious about the timing?

      • Darla says:

Trump is likely to face criminal charges in NYS.

      • whateveryousay says:

Well one of the women was found to be supported by some damn PAC that is going after Schumer and Gillibrand I think by saying they didn’t do anything about Cuomo years ago? It made zero sense. But I saw people this weekend going what in the world. Also some women are trying to blame Pelosi? I don’t think people understand how the government works again.

  5. Liz version 700 says:

Haha did you guys see Pippa has had her baby and named her Grace Elizabeth Jane…nice kiss up to the Queen sigh. That family my goodness. Mind you I like the name Elizabeth lol.

    • incognito08 says:

I wonder how common it is for folks in Great Britain to have two middle names. If it is uncommon, I get the impression that Pippa gave her child more than one middle name to imitate the BRF.

    • Jane says:

Well, Elizabeth is Kate’s middle name, and Charlotte’s, so it’s probably more a reference to that than the Queen!

      • minx says:

My daughter is Kate Elizabeth, not Katherine or Kathleen. I love the combo of a short one syllable first name and a longer middle name, it suits her.

    • manta says:

What? She gave her daughter the same middle name as her mother and sister? The nerve of this woman!

      • Liz version 700 says:

Haha and then released a story to make sure people connected it to the Queen. Middletons with the DM on speed dial. Best wishes for baby Grace

  7. Atti says:

    I love Lizzo so much.

  8. manta says:

Poland is anti choice and anti LGBTQ?
Well its government and president clearly are.
It doesn’t mean the label should be applied to an entire country and its citizens.
Not so long ago, if I recall correctly, USA citizens didn’t want to be assimilated with their far right president, resented their country being called racist or homophobic.
Guess what? Human beings outside the USA feel the same.

    • Libellule says:

Thank you! We’ve been protesting for months now (even in small villages that haven’t seen protests since the fall of communism). And due to pandemic and travel restrictions it is harder to go to our neighbor countries to get abortions

Unfortunately that’s what happens when the catholic church has too much to say. Hopefully we will follow Ireland and leave it behind

  9. A says:

I’M SO HAPPY FOR MEGAN’S VERY DESERVED WIN IN THE GRAMMYS AAAAHHHHH!

That said, I almost changed the channel. Trevor Noah is the absolute worse. He’s the kind of guy who goes “but I’m Black, so I can totally make awful, pathetic ‘jokes’ about feminism, immigrants, and whatever the hell I want ’cause I’m Black!” when he whined about cancel culture, political correctness, and twitter I wanted to astral project and kick his ass

We ain’t claimed ya and you ain’t invited to the cookout, bruh!

    • FicklePickle says:

He is also an immigrant (from South Africa), so I THINK he might have some leeway in that area.

  10. hey says:

Don’t read the Pajiba article, read the comments. Pajiba literally got a dude to mansplain Snyder’s filmography to women, while conveniently forgetting Zach Snyder’s most misogynistic film: sucker Punch.

Snyder is literally breeding a whole generation of incels who justify harassing people for a comicbook film because they donated for a suicide charity. Everybody’s been through bad sh-t. The tragedy of his daughter’s suicide doesn’t mean he’s not a despicable bigot.

    • Darla says:

They Snyder fan boys are awful. But they won’t stop me from enjoying this film if it’s as good as reviews say it is. I love the DC characters. I can’t judge artists by their fans. If I did I wouldn’t be able to listen to Folklore or Evermore and that’s not happening either. 🙂

I DO worry about what this means for the empowerment of these toxic fans though, so I take your point.

  11. Delphine says:

I wouldn’t give a cat spaghetti. It might have garlic in the sauce and garlic is toxic to cats.
