I’m gonna watch TF out of this. It has so much potential to be unintentionally hilarious.

  2. cassandra says:

Musk paid for this right? Like Lorne Michaels has to be getting a souped up Tesla or something

  3. Ally says:

We don’t actually believe Elon Musk’s ego will allow him to make fun of himself, right? This is going to be a mess. I’m here for it.

    • Bettyrose says:

But it’s not up to him. You go on SNL and the writers make you their biyotch. If they don’t, I’ll be the first one here calling them out for a failed opportunity.

      • Ally says:

I can just see tons of tantrums at rehearsal and him refusing to do it. I will be watching TF out of it too lol. I hope it’s epic and/or epically bad 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

Yeah… but can’t see Musk doing what the writers tell him to. He will sign off on all of it.

It’ll be bad. Musk did the voice and signed off on his portrayal of himself in a rick and morty episode. The episode was fine, but Musk was awful. Just cringing.

SNL has some solid segments that lasted throughout the decades, but otherwise seem to be delivering horrible host sketches that get such bad press people watch to see how bad it can be.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        One word: Trump

It wasn’t an embarrassment for him when he hosted in 2015, it helped normalize him.

      • bettyrose says:

@Tiffany – Your comment gave me a chill, but then I remembered Musk isn’t eligible to run for president. Phew! He could probably still get elected in California, though. 🙁

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

Trump was always accepted as a harmless idiot. His fan base didn’t join him because of SNL.

      • Tiffany :) says:

bettyrose, THANK YOU for the comfort of your post! I had forgotten he isn’t eligible to run for president. Whew, that’s a relief!

  4. VN says:

Wow, read the room, Lorne, one likes this guy. Yuk.

    • whatWHAT? says:

yeah, even the cast members had snarky responses on Twitter when it was announced.

  5. Cuga says:

Bowen Yang did not seem pleased by SNL’s decision this weekend on IG.

  6. Becks1 says:

Who asked for this?? No one! And yet here we are. I’ll watch it, but I don’t watch SNL live, just on demand the next day, so I can always skip it if its too boring lol.

I tried to do a GoT rewatch shortly after the series finished, just to see if it did tie together the way HBO insisted it did, and geez there was some imagery they were hitting you over the head with (Dany in the hot bath that is way too hot but she’s okay with it) and the white walkers were always a thing from the very beginning. I also thought that in the first few episodes Dany’s character arc was super clear (so maybe not that much of an arc), but I can’t remember the specific conversation that made me think that. Then I stopped watching because there were just some scenes I didn’t want to watch again.

    • bettyrose says:

Becks1 – Same. It’s my guilty pleasure on Sunday mornings. I hadn’t watched it since college/mid-90s until Hulu reintroduced it to me. And every so often I laugh my ass off.

  7. Lucy says:

Regarding the GoT rewatch: I did it and finished it last night. All I can say is that I now fully agree with the way it ended. Was it exactly what I would have liked? No, but it still made sense and that bitter sensation I was left with back in 2019 is completely gone.

    • cassandra says:

I don’t hate the plot, I hate the execution and the pacing. It really did need another season to fully develop all the plot points. I wish the season could have ended with the White Walker battle at Winterfell. Then the last season would be all about Dany’s takeover of Westeros and descent into madness.

      • Juniper says:

Exactly Cassandra. I don’t think it was a bad direction, it just needed more time.

  8. Anna says:

SNL is trash. Just like Jimmy Fallon, they normalized T**** and look what happened. Everything was ha-ha funny until he became president and started killing people in every which way possible. EM is a horrible, horrible person, a white supremacist colonizing South African who has destructive plans for our planet and beyond. They are giving him a platform, just like countless times before to other white male supremacist abusers and that normalization is what got us into this situation. I’m sick of it. It may seem “harmless” and funny, but not to BIPOC and especially BIPOC women/femmes. Some of us don’t have the luxury of laughing at this; we are fighting to stay alive and not get shot for breathing.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I completely agree. SNL should not let Musk host, and he’s a terrible and dangerous person.

  9. Chaine says:

There’s never not been a time when SNL was just a bunch of unfunny white bros slapping each other on the back at how funny they think themselves to be.

  10. Case says:

I think SNL is having a lot of trouble finding hosts who are able to adhere to Covid safety rules quarantining before and during the week of rehearsal. That’s why they’ve been announcing them late and have made weird choices.

  11. MsIam says:

    Ugh! Just ugh to Elon.

  12. Lemons says:

Grimes come get your man, girl.
How much money did Elon pay to be paired up with Miley who has been on SNL 100 times already? Should I be buying Doge coins just in case?

  13. Silent Star says:

I think I’ll only watch Elon’s SNL appearance in clips after the fact if they turn out to be especially entertaining. Otherwise NOT INTERESTED.

Re: Selena going blonde. I’m on the fence, and would like to see more pictures. She has a similar complexion to Dua Lips, whom I think doesn’t suit blonde. But I think Selena could pull off a really cute Brigitte Bardot style look possibly.

Re: Oscars. Didn’t watch, but I really appreciate seeing the outfits and seeing those behind the scenes photos. Halle Berry’s dress was gorgeous. Laura Dern’s would have been better if the top was sheer and had a few details.

    India 😥😥😥

  14. AG says:

I didn’t watch SNL when the former guy hosted, and I won’t watch this one either. I’m a longtime faithful viewer, I generally record it and watch the next day, but I refuse to contribute to the ratings for a host I find morally repellent.

  15. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

A hard pass for me as I imagine it will be horribly cringe- inducing.

  16. Sue says:

Is it a rule to have someone who CANNOT act or be funny once a year on this show? It used to be athletes (now and again you get someone like Peyton Manning who actually can be funny, but most of the time it’s painful to watch).
I also agree with the comment above that Musk might have paid for this. Miley could have easily hosted and been the musical guest.

  17. MangoAngelesque says:

So the religious child molester knocked up his Stockholm-Syndromed wife for the umpteenth time, huh? That woman has either REALLY drank the kool-aid, has absolutely zero self-worth, or is just flat-out stupid. I know that isn’t kind, but when you’re shown someone’s colours and they’re all shades of feces, you leave. And you sure as hell STOP MAKING BABIES WITH THEM.

    • Sue says:

Anna’s part of the cult they’re all in – the Quiver Fulls or whatever it is they call themselves. So she’s been brainwashed into believing that she has to be submissive to her husband and her only purpose is to have babies. Women in this cult are trained to be fertile mothers and nothing else from the time they’re little girls (see the older sisters raising the younger kids) so she’s not educated or trained to do anything where she can be independent (definitely a form of abuse). She doesn’t work outside the home so she’s got no money of her own to support herself and her seven children.
I read a comment on another site that she’s got a sister who escaped the cult and offered to take in Anna and her kids but I haven’t looked into that.
But I do hope that she can find a way out. I worry like hell about their daughters. Josh had no qualms with molesting his own little sisters.

      • keroppi says:

I wonder if she ever regrets not taking her siblings up on their offer? Apparently, according to Duggar snark on Reddit, they live in a windowless warehouse on the property.

    • Emily_C says:

She’s not stupid — she’s been brainwashed into this cult since she was born. It’s incredibly tragic. We need to figure out how to rescue people from situations like this, but we don’t know how with any reliability yet.

  18. Hazel says:

He’s the definition of a smug git.

  19. Nedsdag says:

    Why?

I guess Jeff Bezos was busy.

  20. The Recluse says:

Wonder if it will be as bad as Drumpf’s last hosting job was. Musk is not a known talent, just a narcissistic egotist who wants to pollute our skies with his 5G satellites.
The cast did not enjoy Drumpf’s last visit and did not bring their A game. Wonder if they’ll just phone it in this time too?
That Oscar In Memoriam segment was insultingly fast and impersonal. I hated it. Let Turner Classic Movies make them from now on.

  21. jwoolman says:

The Recluse – when I read your comment, I had a brief moment of confusion, wondering when Oscar the Grouch died. Or was he cancelled for undue grouchiness? Was he buried in his trash can? Why would Turner Movies be producing his grouchy life story?

  22. Juju says:

Might be super funny if he’s on the same stuff he is when he’s raging on Twitter or when he named his youngest kid.

  23. CS says:

Celebitchy thank you so much for your (always) fantastic reporting on the fashion of the Oscars. It’s consistently one of the best things on this site, and one of reasons I’d fallen in love with this site to begin with. I wish everyday could be fashion reviews…
