The Sussexes ‘privately congratulated’ Will & Kate on their anniversary

Prince William, Catherine Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Meghan Duchess of Sussex at the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force, Buckingham Palace, London, UK on Tuesday 10th July 2018

I get that the Duchess of Sussex’s brand is “nice/classy,” even in the face of bullying, racism, harassment and nastiness. But sometimes I wish Meghan and Harry didn’t even try to be nice to those who openly wish them ill, especially the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. William and Kate have spent the past two and a half years smearing H&M, plotting to exile H&M, copying H&M, taking credit for H&M’s work and using H&M as tools to embiggen themselves. I say that Harry and Meghan shouldn’t put in the effort. Anyway, I’m just ranting into dead air, I know, because Meghan (especially) always wants to be the bigger person. Thus, she and Harry “privately congratulated” William and Kate on their ten-year anniversary.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry joined in celebrating Kate Middleton and Prince William’s 10th wedding anniversary.

Harry and Meghan privately congratulated William and Kate on the special milestone, PEOPLE confirms.

Prince William and Kate wed on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London, where Harry served as his older brother’s best man. Earlier in the day, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles shared well wishes to Kate and Prince William on social media.

[From People]

DO NOT CONGRATULATE! Every major outlet got the same “confirmation,” which says to me that the Sussexes’ spokesperson sent out an email to their preferred outlets, probably just one like of “the Duke and Duchess of Sussex privately congratulated the Cambridges.” I doubt H&M called them. Perhaps they just sent a (hopefully passive-aggressive) card. Maybe Harry sent William a free six-month subscription to Better Up. And Meghan sent a bag of Clevr Blends Golden Latte mix with some roses to Kate.

There is one thing about Meghan and Harry keeping it classy though – in real time, they’re making Kate’s current PR blitz look especially unhinged, because Kate has predicated the blitz on being “better than Meghan.”

Cambridges go low, Sussexes go high.

    • Watson says:

Yeah i find it amazing that Harry and William came from the same family at this point. Harry just seems normal and William seems like an entitled jackass

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

It will be VERY interesting to see just if/how the Cambs send a birthday greeting to Archie next week, and if/how they congratulate H&M when Li’l Montecito arrives. My guess it will be a *very* dry, formal, one sentence “congratulations” on their insta and done.

      • MJM says:

I’m betting it will be completely ignored by all the Palaces. They never acknowledged their second pregnancy and are ‘icing’ them out. This is their modus operandi always.

      • Amelie says:

I doubt the royal social media will acknowledge Archie’s birthday. It doesn’t acknowledge the birthdays of the other great-grandchildren like Zara, Peter, and now Beatrice’s kids. They’ll acknowledge the birth I think but that’s really it. We never see birthday posts for Mia, Savannah, and whatever the other grandchildren are named. Archie isn’t titled and is not the heir so there really isn’t a reason to spotlight him. I don’t think it highlighted him for his first birthday either last year. Meghan released that cute video of her reading that book to Archie for his first birthday but that was it. I’m guessing they’ll release something another video or something this year which is coming up soon.

Edited to add: just kidding, I looked it up and Clarence House did release a post last year for Archie’s birthday but I don’t think KP did.

      • Gabby says:

Did KP ever acknowledge Eugenie’s baby? I don’t recall seeing anything to that effect.

      • equality says:

@Gabby CH and the royal family acknowledged Eugenie’s baby but KP did not.

      • ABritGuest says:

Amelie, KP did do a 1st birthday post for Archie. BP, CH & KP all did even though H&M weren’t working royals at that point. So makes it more interesting press wise what they do this year post Oprah

  2. MsIam says:

Kill them with kindness! This is Meghan and Harry’s way of showing that this media feud is one sided and irrelevant. Plus now this will nip all of those “Meghan and Harry don’t care about the family!’” stories the tabs planned to write in the bud.

    • Brit says:

Yep. The tabloids have been trying to get the Sussexes to respond and play media games since forever but especially since the Oprah interview. Piers even got involved and it still didn’t work and he’s still irrelevant. Let palaces and tabloids deal with each other because that relationship is going to get worse especially as the money makers keep flourishing in America.

      • Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

If the Sussexes hadn’t privately wished them Happy Anniversary, Wilileaks would have been on the phone to Dan Wooten to complain about it.

      • Gabby says:

Flourishing indeed. I bet Will spent his anniverary fuming that the Sussexes were invited to take part in the Covax event.

  3. Cecilia says:

Why would people even want to know whether they congratulated w&k or not? Is that of any importance? I just find it weird that the tabloids went out of their way to find it out

    • Becks1 says:

Because if they didn’t get confirmation that they congratulated them, then the tabloids would have story for another week – “RIFT RAGES ON! The Sussexes REFUSE to congratulate the Cambridges on their MILESTONE anniversary!” “SUSSEXES SNUB CAMBRIDGES – MEGHAN CANT FORGIVE KATE!!!!” and on and on.

I mean, they’ll do that anyway, lol, but this takes one stick from the fire, you know?

      • Cecilia says:

I guess you are right but i just find it strange that every time there’s a celebration within the BRF we have tabloids harassing the communication team to confirm whether the harry& meghan reached out. I don’t remember the reverse happening ever.

      • Seraphina says:

Becks1 is correct, that is exactly what would happen.

      • BayTampaBay says:

But also what happened in the tabloids and on many “hater” sites is “Meghan uses CAMBRIDGE ANNIVERSARY to score PR points”.

        It never ends!!!!!

      • swirlmamad says:

This is exactly the reason why, whether or not Harry and Meghan actually wanted to congratulate W+K, they HAD to do it. Otherwise, the rats back them into the corner they are constantly trying to trap them in. I too bet it was probably a card and flowers (hopefully ROSES) and definitely no phone call or Zoom.

      • equality says:

@Cecilia I don’t recall the reverse ever happening either. W&K aren’t expected to even acknowledge a child’s birthday by the BM. W&K didn’t bother to congratulate Eugenie on August’s birth either. I guess they are above such things.

      • Amy Too says:

Equality, bc the Cambridges didn’t even acknowledge the birth of eugenie’s baby, I have a feeling they won’t be acknowledging Montecito’s birth either. I’m even wondering if they purposely didn’t post anything for baby August just so that they could set a precedent and not be expected to post for baby girl sussex. They’re dastardly enough and petty enough to work like that. I’m thinking the official royal family page will do the same thing they did for eugenie’s baby for Meghan’s baby: “the Queen, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, and the whole royal family congratulate the Sussexes on the birth of their baby girl.” Will and Kate are technically covered by “the whole royal family” without actually being named or having to do anything themselves so that they can preserve their narrative of being too good to notice everyone else, freezing out Meghan and Harry and refusing to acknowledge the children of their union to reinforce that they are the wronged parties in this feud. It’s likely part of why they ignored eugenie’s baby too: she’s too nice to Harry and Meghan.

      • swirlmamad says:

I didn’t realize W+K never congratulated Eugenie + Jack. Guess it makes sense they would be that low and petty since we know which cousin Eugenie is backing. I agree that was two-fold — #1 they just wanted to be asses to her as usual, and #2, they probably did want to have an excuse not to say anything about M+H baby when the time comes. As I’ve said so many times recently….they are the worst.

    • Chicken Tetrazzini! says:

I think they’re playing a long game here too. It may even be a passive aggressive FU to the Cambs, but in the eyes of the world, they haven’t missed any milestones and have continued to reach out and be gracious and classy.

    • Ainsley7 says:

The tabloids make bank off the feud. So, it’s important to them because they want to write stories about the feud. From my point of view, Harry has tried to shut down the rumors that he’s in a huge fight with Will. Harry came across as much angrier at Charles in the interview and quickly shot down the idea that they had any positive interaction after the funeral. I wouldn’t put it past Charles to be the one fanning the flames. If Will had actually wanted a buffer between himself and Harry than Kate would never have tried to get them talking after and Harry would have continued to give his brother space. He could have stood on Kate’s other side and just talked to her. Charles has been using the feud to show the William was too immature to be king since 2018. I think all the back handed articles that people think are coming from the Cambridges are actually coming from Charles. It would also explain Uncle Gary’s nonsense.

      • Becks1 says:

I think Harry is angrier at his father because his father was the one who abruptly ended his security and funding AND because he expected more from his father. But he made it clear in the interview that he wanted to work on the relationship. With william, there was a clear detachment there that tells me Harry knows exactly who his brother is and there isn’t really hope for reconciliation. He said he hoped that time would heal it (with the implication being that nothing else will or has.)

There is no way Charles would condone Uncle Gary giving the kinds of interview he’s giving, especially implying that Charles should be skipped for William. And there’s no way the strange pro-Kate articles over the past few weeks are coming from Clarence House, especially as they all seem to overlook William.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Becks1, you are absolutely right that Harry knows The Other Brother and he knows that he isn’t capable of being the one to make a meaningful gesture. Baldimort is an immature and petulant man child who is only interested in getting his own way and will keep a grudge against Harry until he dies.

Charles should have stood up to Baldimort decades ago! Otherwise he may have turned out to be possibly less of a horrid person.

  4. Ali says:

Daily Beast reached out to their spokesperson. That was the answer. This happens every time a birthday or anniversary is celebrated.

    • Amy Bee says:

Yeah. The reporters constantly ask the Sussexes team questions and their spokesperson answers most times. Richard Palmer admitted that he went to ipso because the spokesperson didn’t answer his questions and ipso advised him to stop contacting the Sussexes team because what he was doing could amount to harrassment.

      • one of the Marys says:

Ok I had to look up and I laughed and laughed but I suppose nobody considers the British tabloids are practising actual journalism

      • BayTampaBay says:

        “ipso” = ?????

      • Lauren says:

@BayTampaBay Independent Press Standards Organisation. The newspaper regulator in the UK. Them advising RP to cease and desist because it can amount to harassment is hilarious. Shows just who is holding the gun now. Meghan and Harry aren’t playing with the rota.

      • equality says:

So did Palmer think that he had a complaint because H&M wouldn’t respond to him?

      • BayTampaBay says:

@equality – I, like you, do not understand why Richard Palmer would go to IPSO unless it was to cover his own arse.

  5. Tiff says:

Like you I hope it was a generic card and they stamped their names on it

  6. Becks1 says:

Of course they did, because Meghan and Harry are classy and are the bigger and better people in this situation.

  7. Brit says:

The media has made this anniversary about the Sussexes and are not taking the Cambridge’s or that “Home Video” seriously. I don’t know if it’s because they’re bored, they know this is all a sham or they’re trying to pressure William and Kate to be more like the Harry and Meghan. All these puff pieces and commentary is odd and unbelievable.

  8. Nomegusta says:

Lol, its funny how that’s the one thing the Cambridge camp didn’t leak about the Sussexes.

Meghan’s better than me because I would have sent their assess roses and some Clevr blend, along with a reminder to watch my global concert/fundraiser if they could fit it in to their busy schedule of farm animals and pretending to like each other

    • JT says:

They might not have had time to leak it. I’m sure they probably wanted to spin it as H&M begging for forgiveness in their congratulations or something. Like the phone call William had with Harry, was starting to turn into Harry wanting to come back or some bulls*t, but Harry shut it down real quick. Maybe H&M confirmed that they sent a response before the rota were able to come up with an angle.

  9. Kachiri Lady says:

Have your assistant send a card from the local gas station and keep it pushing.

  10. Sofia says:

I know some will complain and say they shouldn’t have but they are going to wish the royals happy anniversary/birthday when the dates come even if people don’t personally think they should. That’s just who they are and will continue to be.

    • Jegede says:

I just wish the Sussex spokesperson could keep it as “We won’t comment on private correspondence”, rather then making it become an H & M sucking up to the Cambs storyline again.

      • Sofia says:

As @Becks1 has said above if they didn’t, the tabloids would spin it as “FEUD STILL CONTINUES. Sussexes SNUB Cambridges on milestone anniversary”

Yes they’ll continue to do their own spin but at least this is the end of one narrative taking off fully.

      • Becks1 says:

@Sofia, you know what would be fun? To have an open post where we can just make up british tabloid headlines for everything H&M do or don’t do. The more unhinged the better, lol.

      • Sofia says:

@Becks1 That would be fun. There could even be a topic every week and it can range from something they actually did to something like “Meghan goes on a walk”.

Or we can even go nuts and create the most ridiculous headline we can based on anything.

      • Amy Too says:

        Meghan goes on a walk:

“Meghan DESECRATES 10,000 unit housing complex!

(Little print:) Aloof Duchess smashes into ant hill, leaves 10,000 LA ants scrambling to rebuild!”

      • Golly Gee says:

        Meghan goes on a walk:
“selfishly breathes air; depriving the less fortunate of theirs.“

  11. Harper says:

I think Meghan is super organized and has a list for each month’s events and her assistant goes out to Walgreens each month and buys the cards and makes sure they’re signed and stamped and sent out a week ahead of each event so that they get there in time. She also probably sent a gift to Louis too. I do not think Meghan and Harry called and left gushing voice mails of congratulations.

    • equality says:

I actually hope they send gifts to the children but I wonder if W&K will let them have them. It’s funny, I don’t recall the BM asking if they acknowledged Louis’ birthday. The poor child seems to get treated as an afterthought.

  12. Emily_C says:

I’ve found it’s easier to act normally toward toxic family members in some ways, especially for things you don’t have to meet them in person or truly communicate for. A card on a birthday, for instance. It keeps them more quiescent.

  13. JT says:

But what are W&K doing for their anniversary? I find it odd that there aren’t any plans even being mentioned. Hell, with H&M, the tabloids make up plans to talk about. It’s just crickets for the Cams. Or maybe I just missed it. No cake or dinner. Nothing?

    • SarahCS says:

Probably because they aren’t doing anything together. They’ve had their scheduled time together to promote the brand and now it’s back to independence.

    • BayTampaBay says:

The British press will not comment on anything special that Baldy and Wiglet do for their 10th wedding anniversary because it will certainly involve a private jet and/or private helicopter.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Something generic was put out last week that they “will be celebrating “privately”, quietly, “most likely” with just the children…”

Now, think of when H&M wanted to keep Archie’s birth, christening/Godparents’ list “private” and the SCREECHING of outrage could be heard all the way across the pond to here on the west coast, w/out a microphone.

And get ready for the howls again when Li’l Montecito is born w/out a min. by min. blowout.

    • Gina says:

New necklace for Kate. I forgot the price but it was very expensive. Saw the headline at DFail. Didn’t want to click on the article. It seems they took this article down rather quickly. I’m trying not to visit DF at all and definitely not to click on the articles but couldn’t help myself – went there to check the barrage of bullshit posted last few days in honor of 10 years of pure love in Royal Family.

      • swirlmamad says:

They had an article for the necklace and its cost (over $12k) over at PEOPLE.com. They couldn’t even say for sure that it was a gift from William — just speculation. (You KNOW she bought that for herself)

  14. S808 says:

God is still working on me cause I would never.

    • Jegede says:

      Absolutely same.👍

Especially from people we now KNOW – not suspect – have confirmed they are working on behest/support of the BRF, to harass and be rid of Meghan & Archie.

  15. Amy Bee says:

Why give the press more ammunition against them? Answering the press’ enquiries about birthday and anniversary greetings is a good tactic as it shows that the palace is the one in an one-sided war and the press can’t accuse them of snubbing William and Kate on their anniversary. But I’m sure that Harry and Meghan are not personally contacting them. They most likely sent their greeting via the Head of the Royal household.

  16. Jan says:

You would think the BM would focus on the happy family video that was produced by a professional videographer famous for making supermarket advertisements.

    • Sofia says:

I just checked and you’re right! Huh. It definitely has advertisement/commercial vibes which make sense when you learn the videographer’s background.

Perhaps a wedding videographer would have worked better

    • Myra says:

It explains why the video felt more like a commercial for life insurance rather than an intimate family moment caught on camera. It also explains the weird article praising Kate for social media skills. Everything is staged and scripted.

      • Harper says:

I thought of life insurance too, with a voiceover advising that life can be unexpected–make sure your loved ones will have everything they need!

      • Feeshalori says:

Very apropos to compare this to life insurance given Wooten’s article that they’ll stay together as long as they’re both alive.

  17. Snuffles says:

I think it’s a combination of Meghan and Harry being the bigger people and strategic. They can congratulate them on milestones, send birthday and Christmas presents easily while maintaining boundaries. They also do it to kill more rift stories. THEY are the ones maintaining civility and being classy while the Cambridges are being cold and withholding.

The ball is in your court Cambridges! Will you wish Archie a happy birthday? Will you acknowledge the birth of baby girl Sussex?

I personally believe that while Harry will maintain firm boundaries the rest of his life, he does want to reach a point of civility with his family where they aren’t constantly at each other’s throats.

  18. Sarah says:

Why wouldn’t they wish them a Happy Anniversary? One thing that I notice about Meghan is she’s not going in the mud with anyone.

  19. Over it says:

I would send Willy and karenkeen a big f you .

  20. Over it says:

But I am petty and immature and spiteful. Megs and haz are the complete opposite of me.

  21. Lauren says:

I imagine they released had their spokesperson release the news to avoid any fanfiction and get ahead of negative coverage. I would also love it if the Sussexes ignored the RF, but I can understand why they don’t.

  22. Carmen-JamRock says:

Compassion iis the CORE of H&M’s brand. They arent gonna allow anyone, including the BRF and their puppetmasters, the BM, cause them to tarnish their brand.

ALSO: “How people treat you is THEIR Karma; how you respond is YOURS.”

Thats another central pillar of H&M’s belief system that they live out loud.

  23. SurelyNot says:

Or – devil’s advocate here – they did call them, maybe had a game of connect 4 over zoom, drank some wine, laughed about private family stuff from the last ten years. Maybe Kate is sending over some stuff of Charlotte’s for baby girl Sussex. We really don’t know.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

      Um……no. That much we know.

    • Merricat says:

Pretty sure that’s not happening since, you know, the Cambridges actively engaged in smearing a pregnant woman into suicidal ideation.

    • SurelyNot says:

OK, that was pure sarcasm — having said that, I think those banking on H&M having nothing at all to do with the BRF going forward are going to be wildly disappointed. At the core, they are a family. I don’t believe the dynamics will go back to the way they were (the Sussex scapegoating) but I think we will see them at limited events. I think he will go for the statue thing if the baby timing allows. We will see the four of them together again. (my tin foil hat prediction)

      • Becks1 says:

@SurelyNot – I’m with you for the most part. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Meghan in the UK for a long time, so no pictures of the four of them. Although, it was put out that she would have traveled for Philip’s funeral, so maybe she will go at some point (right now I think she will go over for the Queen’s funeral and thats it, but we’ll see in time.)

But I think the insistence that Harry will have nothing at all to do with his family or the UK ever again is kind of…..well, I just don’t agree with it. At the very least we know he’s still friends with Eugenie, and he still has charities in the UK, etc. I think if he was never going to return and if they wanted nothing at all to do with the Windsors ever again, they would have returned the royal patronages to the queen when they stepped back a year ago, I think they would have given back Frogmore, not paid for the renovations and prepaid a multiyear lease, etc. Harry himself made it very clear in the Corden interview that he’s not “stepping away” from the family, but he’s stepping back.

  24. Betsy says:

I’m glad Harry and Meghan sent congratulations for their anniversary. I think they’re aware that William, while a douche and an unlikeable person, suffers from untreated mental health or personality issues.

  25. Belle says:

It’s sad that the H&M need to release private moments to preemptively stop media writing their own narrative which will undoubtedly be negative but the same is not required for the Cambridges.

  26. aquarius64 says:

The anniversary greeting is a good tactic. Archie’s birthday is next week and if the Cambridges don’t wish him a happy they will look more petty for taking their issues out on a toddler and confirm one or both of them made the skin color remark.

    • equality says:

Perfect opportunity for them to post pictures of their kids making cards for Archie.

      • L4frimaire says:

I hope they don’t mention it publicly because it will be a toxic swill on their Insta page, with people attacking that child. They need to leave him alone, especially after their obsession with his skin color and denying him his titles because of it.

  27. Beach Dreams says:

Eh, while I do wish they’d give more “no comment” responses, this will probably work out for them in some weird way. If/when the Cambridges are fully exposed for what they really are (and they’re stupid enough to out themselves too), the Sussexes will look that much better in comparison.

  28. Tanya Nguyen says:

I think that being kind to people who are toxic and destructive towards you is a really bad path in life. It is exhausting, tiresome and becomes pathetic. I truly wish the couple would stop trying to reach out to the Royal family. Because it seems that the royal family never reaches out to them. Megan and Harry should focus on their lives, the new baby coming here and their friends and family that do care. I would never advise anyone to be kind to people being abusive to them. William and Catherine have never even acknowledged Archie and will not acknowledge the new baby.

    • Jaded says:

Sending a card is not reaching out. It’s called good manners. Your comment makes no sense — Meghan and Harry ARE focusing on their lives — it’s called meaningful work with their charities, the Netflix and Spotify partnerships, and Vax-Fest. They will always take the high road and that will always create good karma.

  29. TheOriginalMia says:

The Sussexes are nicer people than me, but also it’s smart to confirm this is an one-sided war in the tabloids. The Sussexes are not briefing against the Cambridges, but that’s all the Cambridges and Ma Midds have been doing for the last year since they’ve been gone.

  30. GuestWho says:

Better to put it out there that they were at least polite to their tormentors than not.

I have to say I LOVE that log picture. Every time I see it, all I see is that even Will is trying to figure out why Kate’s mouth is always open in photos.

  31. Maria says:

They are nice people. Why not congratulate them? It’s pretty much all William and Kate have. 😂
Besides their poor kids of course…

  32. MerryGirl says:

The disgusting Rota and UK press keep reaching out to the Sussexes spokesperson for comments on Royal family matters (which they’ve left behind and moved on) so I guess Harry & Meghan just prepare generic congratulations for all the Royal milestones to get them off their backs. This also kills any nonsense stories of H&M feuding with the Royals.

  33. Nivz says:

Good for you Haz and Megs.
They are probably better people than I, but I would have done the same in a similar situation. In my own life, I have had to screenshot similar interactions with people I don’t trust, just to have receipts, just to be able to say, “this is what went down, nobody else try to spin this.” Thats the vibe I’m getting from this confirmation, and I support it.

  34. aquarius64 says:

I think the rota rats are on a special no contact list for the Sussex official spokesperson along with certain British media outlets. US media, which has been respectful for the most part, gets first crack of Sussex news and the BM gets sloppy seconds.

  35. Cessily says:

How long will it take for the charities in the UK to realize that they would get more benefits linked to Archewell and more personal attention? The petty and targeted tabloid stories while others struggle to get some sort of new normal leave a sticky film over the readers, we can actually feel the hate and nastiness now. It has been daily since the interview, which if they refuse to apologize they should just keep quiet. (The passive aggressive nastiness should be addressed by mental health professionals on the damage the tabloids institution does to individuals, if it has already been done I would love to read it)
The failing patronage’s and petty jealousies will be all the legacy PC and PW&K leave for history.
It is all like a bad season of “gossip girl”.

  36. Charfromdarock says:

Do people really give anniversary cards and presents to other couples?

    • Curious says:

yes. but its different for the royals. since its a public thing. all the royals are suppose to show they support the heir by wishing them happy anniversary. with my female/male close friends i always call and wish them happy Anniversary.happy birthday .congratulations when they have children. I did buy presents for their anniversaries when they had a party to celebrate it and i was invited.. also bought presents for their birthdays and when their child /children was born.

  37. William and Kate will not be going to advance any patronages and charities they take on because, all their life, they will be constantly looking at what the Sussexes are doing and second guessing them. The problem is they will always pale in comparison to the Sussexes due to no originality, genuineness, and no global impact. But Sarah Vile (and the British media) cannot accept that. She continues to rant against the Sussexes and concocts beautiful but empty words in favor of the Cambridges. She cannot fool people. The RRs are doomed. They’ve been unmasked by Meghan for their racist and bullying behavior. So now they’re mad. Stay mad. Who cares?
